I do not own Glee or any of the characters created by Ryan Murphy. If I did we would see way more of Shelby. This story will contain spanking of a teenager. If that's not your thing stop reading now and go read something else.

Chapter 27

Shelby opened her eyes slowly and snuggled up to the taller woman in bed with her. Glad that Rachel had decided to spend the previous night at Kurt's house Shelby and Sue had taken advantage of the time without Rachel, and had enjoyed some quality adult time.

"Last night was wonderful," Sue's voice was gentle and Shelby looked over to find the blonde smiling at her.

"It was."

"Especially enjoyable since we didn't have to worry about Ethel Jr. hearing us. I say she spends the time at Fairy Boy's more often."

"Stop calling Kurt names," Shelby shook her head. "I know they're terms of endearment, but seriously, Fairy Boy?"

"Too much?" Sue winked at Shelby and moved in to give her a gentle kiss. "Have to practice the best ones out over the summer so I'm ready when I see the singing freaks again come fall."

"I can't believe I'm dating someone who calls my kid a singing freak," Shelby muttered.

"Better than soulless automatons," Sue teased. "At least to hear Rachel tell it, VA couldn't think their way out a brown paper bag without directions from you."

"I should hope not," Shelby huffed. "I worked hard on getting them to obey me blindly. How else do you think I had them walking on their hands or in metal underwear?"

"Good point," Sue acknowledged. "I guess we're more alike than people think. You have V.A., I have my Cheerios, and now that we've combined forces we'll be unstoppable."

"We aren't trying to take over the world, Billie Jean," Shelby chuckled.

"You have your dreams, I have mine." Sue smirked as she moved to wake Shelby up fully in the most creative way possible.

Pulling her robe tighter, Shelby frowned as she heard the doorbell ring. Wondering who would be bothering her before eleven on a Saturday morning she moved from the coffee maker to the front door. Looking through the peephole her frowned was replaced with a smile.

"Daddy!" Shelby practically fell into his arms as he entered the house more than ready to give her a hug.

"Did I surprise you?" the tall man asked.

"You did," Shelby stepped back and looked at the small bag at his side. "What are you doing here?"

"Rachel and I decided that I would come and spend time with the two of you for a couple of days. I had to be up this way for business and decided to use that to my advantage."

"She never said a word to me," Shelby led her father further into the house.

"Where is Rachel?"

"At Kurt's house," Shelby shrugged at the confusion on her father's face. "She decided to spend the night last night. Something about a fashion crisis she needed to talk Kurt through."

Shelby's father chuckled, "Well then, I guess I'll just put my bag…." He was cut off by the tall blonde in a robe walking towards him hand extended.

"By Ethel's response, I'd say you're the father. Nice to meet you, Coach Sue Sylvester at your service." Shaking the shocked man's hand Sue pulled him to the sitting area and took a seat in her favorite chair while Shelby helped him sit on the couch.

"I'm sure you're wanting to have the usual father/coach talk about your daughter with me. Can't say that I haven't been looking forward to it on some level."

Seeing the look on her father's face Shelby held in her chuckle, "Sue, I think my father would love to talk to you, but maybe you should at least put on pants first."

"Of course, can't have an important conversation like that if one of the main parties isn't dressed for it. Excuse me." Rising from her seat Sue practically bolted up the stairs.

"Shelby," Theo turned to face his daughter fully. "What in the hell was that?"

"That Daddy, is Sue Sylvester. I thought Mom told you that she and I were dating."

"Your mother told me that you were dating someone who was very unique. Now I know what she meant." Theo looked at the now empty stairs. "I know you have coffee ready, Shelbs. I could really use a cup right about now. Along with a long shot of whiskey."

"Coming right up, Daddy." Shelby took her father's hand and led him to the kitchen knowing that she had a long day in front of her.

The ringing of the phone interrupted Theo and Sue as they debated about the merits of cannons at cheering events. Picking up the line Shelby's heart dropped at the opening question. "Is this Shelby Corcoran?"

"Yes."

"Are you the mother of Rachel Berry?"

"I am. Is Rachel okay?"

"Yes ma'am. This is Officer Smith from the Columbus airport. We stopped your daughter from boarding a plane to Toronto. The fact that she's on the no fly list had her flagged, but seeing as she is a minor, she wouldn't have been allowed to board the flight anyway."

"What do I need to do, officer?"

"We need you to come and get your daughter, Ms. Corcoran. Since she is a minor and committed no real offense we will release her to your custody with the caveat that she knows how important it is for her not to attempt to do this again."

"I can guarantee you that Rachel will understand that fully when I get done discussing this with her."

"Thank you ma'am."

"It will take me a couple of hours to get to Columbus. Where should I come once I reach the airport?"

"The international terminal. Just tell the people at the information desk you are here to collect Rachel Berry. Please be sure to have proper photo identification with you."

"I will, thank you."

"Shelby?"

Shelby looked at her father and then to Sue. "Rachel was stopped trying to get on a flight to Toronto at the Columbus airport. Apparently she's on the no fly list and her name was flagged."

"Glad that worked," Sue commented.

"Sue?" Shelby asked.

"I have a friend who put her on the list for me. He and I go way back and I had a feeling Ethel Jr might try to do a runner. Glad to see that it worked. Now, let's get ready and go pick up Rachel."

"Daddy," Shelby melted into his hug. "Are you coming with us?"

The older man shook his head, "No. I still have business here on Monday and I'll just wait here rather than sit in the car for almost two hours just to head back her. Besides, I have a feeling I was asked her by Rachel to distract you and so I would learn about you and Sue in a most unusual way. I want to have my own discussion with my granddaughter."

Shelby nodded, "I understand. We'll be back as soon as we can."

"Shelby," Theo coughed. "Don't you think you should get dressed first?"

Looking down at her robe Shelby blushed, "Yeah, I guess that is a good idea."

***GLEE****GLEE****GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***

"But you don't understand," Rachel tried again. "I would much prefer to be arrested and sent to Guantanamo. Surely being on the no fly list and trying to fly internationally can warrant something like that?"

Rubbing his head Officer Dale Smith held in his groan. The girl hadn't stopped begging to be shipped off to Cuba since he had ended the call with the girl's mother. "As I told you, Rachel. We see no reason to arrest a freshman in high school when she has no record and is no real threat to national security."

"Please Officer Smith. I am begging you to arrest me before my mother gets here."

"If your mother coming to pick you up actually causes you to want to be arrested then I think the best place for you is with her." The man responded. "Now, it's getting late. What can I get you for dinner?"

"You mean my last meal?" Rachel sighed heavily. "I'm not sure. What types of vegetarian offerings are available in this airport?"

Not managing to hold in his groan this time the man looked at Rachel. "I have no idea. Give me fifteen minutes to find out."

"Okay. I do eat eggs and enjoy cheese, so it doesn't have to omit those items."

"Understood." The man held up his hand. "Please just be quiet while I call around. Just fifteen minutes, Rachel."

"Fine." Rachel rolled her eyes and looked at the clock. She figured that she had perhaps an hour before her mother showed up. Hoping that Shelby was adverse to committing murder in such a public place Rachel put her head in her hands wishing once more that she had never read that article about the girls in Colorado who managed to fly to Europe alone.

***GLEE****GLEE****GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***

Pulling the car into a spot in the short term parking garage Sue turned to look at Shelby. "Are you ready to go get your kid?"

"I am." Shelby looked out the window for a moment. "I just wish I knew what was going on with her."

"That's easy, Ethel. Her father's aren't telling her anything so she decided to go to the source for answers. Something I would have done in a similar situation. Kid has her mother's moxy for sure. Too bad we have to be mortal enemies at school, I'm finding myself actually liking Rachel."

"I'm so glad you're finding common ground with my almost law breaking off spring." Shelby sighed. "And thank you for putting her on the no fly list. I never would have thought of that."

"It's my job to back you up in regards to the kid. After all if I'm in this for the long haul Ethel Jr needs to understand that one of us will always be two steps ahead of her."

"Thank you, Billie Jean." Shelby reached over and squeezed Sue's hand. "Are you coming with me to collect Rachel?"

"Are you kidding?" Sue opened her door and looked at Shelby with a smirk. "I wouldn't miss the look on her face when her bad ass Mama storms in there to collect her. Will keep me warm and fuzzy for years."

The women walked into the airport and Shelby made her way to the security desk. Giving her name she wasn't surprised when the woman behind the counter grinned at her. "Officer Smith will be thrilled to know that."

"Is Rachel giving him trouble?" Shelby asked.

"Not really," the woman chuckled. "Let's just say that her dietary concerns have become well known among those of us trying to help him feed her."

"Anything else?"

"She's been begging to be sent to Guantanamo before you got here," the woman began to laugh at Shelby's expression. "Good luck with your daughter, Ms. Corcoran. And make sure those child locks are on in your car on the way home, I have a feeling you'll need them."

Shelby's reply was cut off by a tall man in a black uniform arriving at the desk. "Ms. Corcoran, my name is John Burns and I'll be happy to take you to your daughter."

"Thank you." Shelby and Sue began to follow the man at a fast clip down the hallway. Moving into a door marked security they continued down another hallway and then stopped outside of a room label interview room three.

"Rachel please eat the pizza," Shelby heard the desperation in the male voice behind the door.

"Is the door unlocked?" Shelby asked the man next to her.

Getting a nod she looked at Sue. Flinging the door open Shelby caused not only Rachel to jump to her feet but Officer Smith as well. "Rachel Barbara Berry!" Shelby moved forward not surprised when her daughter ran to hide behind the officer in the room. "Get your things we are leaving."

"Mama…" Rachel whispered.

"Not a word, Rachel. Not one word. You and I have exactly one hour and thirty four minutes give or take thirty minutes depending on traffic and stops to talk about everything. Now, get your things and start moving."

Seeing Rachel's eyes dart to her bags Shelby also noticed that the girl made no indication that she was going to move from behind the officer. "Rachel, you heard your mother," Sue finally spoke. "I'll get the bags, young lady, but you need to move."

"Coach?" Rachel looked up at the blonde.

"You heard me, Rachel." Sue entered the room fully and picked up the bags. "Say thank you to Officer Smith and then get your glee loving behind to your mother so we can leave. I don't want to get home at midnight."

"Now. Rachel." Shelby's voice was tight and Rachel slowly moved from behind the officer.

"Thank you Officer Smith," Rachel said quietly noticing that Sue nodded in approval. "I appreciate your hospitality."

"No problem, Rachel. Good luck." The man waved at her as she left the room. "Poor kid," he muttered to himself. "No wonder she wanted to be sent to Cuba."

Rachel quietly followed her mother from the confines of the airport to the car. Stopping at the vehicle Rachel balked at getting inside. Feeling her mother grip her elbow Rachel closed her eyes and waited for the swat.

"Ethel, we're at an airport with a lot of security cameras. If you're going to kill the kid my suggestion is to wait until we're on the highway were surveillance is a lot harder to perform." Sue's voice came from the back of the car where she had just placed Rachel's bags.

Shelby nodded shortly and let go of Rachel's arm. "Get into the car, Rachel." Shelby directed only stepping back when the teen finally obeyed her and settled into the back seat.

Rachel had been in the car exactly fifteen minutes with her mom and Sue. Fifteen long minutes of tense silence which her mother finally broke. "First, I am not going to kill you. Secondly, we are going to stop for dinner where we will not discuss you attempting to board the plane. After that we will get back into the car and head home. It is during this leg of the trip that you will be allowed to tell me everything you wish to say. And believe you me, Rachel Barbra, you had better have a really good explanation for this stunt."

"I'll take the next exit. I think there was place where we could all get fed no matter our diets." Sue commented quietly. Sue Sylvester was no fool and she knew when to keep her mouth shut.

***GLEE****GLEE****GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***GLEE***

Dinner had been quiet and Rachel once again found herself in the back seat of Sue's car. They had just begun to pull out of the parking lot when Shelby spoke. "Tell me what you were thinking, Rachel."

"Well I wasn't thinking that I'd be flagged for the no fly list. How did you manage that anyway?"

"I have a friend," Sue volunteered. "Figure you might want to do a runner so I decided to be prepared."

"You had me flagged?" Rachel practically squealed. "Is that even legal?"

"I don't look at the legalities of things, Rachel. The point is, I figured you might try this and I'm here to back your mother up, not make it easier for you."

"Great," Rachel huffed. "Not only do you enjoy making my life a hell at school, now I have to deal with it at home."

Sue held up her hand to Shelby and shook her head slightly. "I am not trying to make your life hell, Ethel Jr.," Sue began. "This is what a parent does. Even if I'm not an official one, I am dating your mother, and the two of you are a package deal. Get used to it."

Sue felt Shelby squeeze her hand and she gently squeezed back as Rachel groaned loudly from the back seat. "Start talking, Rachel." Shelby directed.

"Fine. I'm tired of Dad and Daddy not telling us anything or giving us half-truths. I figured if I showed up in person then they would have to tell me the truth. Or I would at least see it for myself."

"You could have discussed this with me, Rachel. Flying to Sweden is a little extreme," Shelby responded.

"Well apparently I can't fly anywhere thanks to your girlfriend!" Rachel grumped.

"That is enough, Rachel." Shelby's voice was too calm. "You are in trouble. More trouble than I think you comprehend. I understand that you wanted to see your dads and get answers but this is not the way to do it."

"It's not like I really did anything," Rachel protested.

"You didn't do anything?" Shelby took a deep breath. "First of all you lied to me about where you would be, Rachel. I also feel that you used your grandfather as a distraction for me to help in this little plan of yours. You attempted to fly out of the country without me knowing. Do you have any idea how dangerous that is?"

"But nothing happened."

"Because Sue had you flagged for the no fly list!" Shelby huffed. "And how were you going to pay for this little adventure, Rachel?"

"My credit card," the teen whispered. "And Puck's brother drove me. If you give him twenty bucks he pretty much will do anything no questions asked."

"You have a credit card?" Shelby asked.

"I filled out one of those applications for students," Rachel admitted. "They approved it. It was actually rather easy. If I were you I'd really be angry with the credit card company on how easy it is for an unemployed student to get a credit card."

"You are not an unemployed student," Shelby hissed. "You are a fourteen year old high school student!"

"The definition of unemployed student is right there, Mama."

Shelby began to sputter and Sue stepped in, "Rachel I think you need to stop talking for the next ten miles or so. I don't want to have to try and hide a body between here and Lima. There aren't a lot of places it can be done easily."

Gulping Rachel nodded. Looking out the window into the darkness Rachel decided if there was anyone who knew about hiding bodies it would be Sue Sylvester. Better to be quiet and not risk anything than trying to defend herself at this moment.

One more- thanks for all the favorites, alerts, and PM… more of Rachel to come.
