I do not own Glee or any of the characters created by Ryan Murphy. If I did, we would see way more of Shelby. This story will contain spanking of a teenager. If that's not your thing stop reading now and go read something else.

Chapter 37

"I can't believe that I survived this week," Rachel commented before inhaling the orange juice Shelby had put near her breakfast plate. "I mean running Death Trail was one thing, but Dante's Inferno part 3?"

"You did a fine job, E.J." Sue complimented sliding into her now usual spot at the breakfast table. "In fact, I was rather impressed by the way you jumped over that log and avoided the small hole that was in our way."

"Small hole?" Rachel looked at her mother who had sat down across from her, "By small hole she means a hole in the trail, if you can call it a trail, so large that a small submarine could submerge during a decent rainfall."

Holding in her laughter, Shelby shook her head. "Sounds like you should feel quite accomplished then."

"I suppose." Rachel slowly began to eat her breakfast before speaking again. "Coach?"

"Yeah, E.J.?"

"Are you moving in with us?"

The question caused Shelby to almost choke on her coffee and Sue to gape at the girl open mouthed. Slowly closing her mouth, Sue put her fork down and took a large drink of coffee. "I don't know, Rachel. I'm not adverse to the idea, but I wasn't sure how you would feel about it; or your mother for that matter."

Shoving some of her omelet into her mouth Rachel shrugged. "I actually don't mind." She said quietly. "Strange, I know, but you've spent every night here this week, and well…" trailing off, Rachel finally finished. "It just feels, normal."

"That it does," Shelby agreed quietly. "So, ready to move in with us, Sue?"

Smiling, the tall blonde nodded, "Thought you'd never ask, Ethel, though we may need to make sure it's okay with the parental units first. Last thing I need is and upset Ethel Senior and husband thinking I'm not doing right by their daughter."

"Can I listen in to that conversation?" Rachel asked excited. I would love to hear what Bubbe and Saba say to Coach asking them their thoughts on your new living arrangements!"

"No!" Shelby's voice was firm. You do not need to hear that conversation, Rachel."

"Oh, come on, Mama. It might be useful."

Holding up her hand to Shelby, Sue interrupted. "I want to hear this one too, Ethel. How might this conversation be useful, E.J.?"

"Well," Rachel paused to take her last bite of egg, "You never know when observing someone with an obvious take charge gumption and who isn't about to take no for an answer handles things in her own diplomatic way. I might need to use such skills someday myself."

Looking at Shelby Sue barely contained a smile. Turning back to Rachel, the woman did smile. "That is the biggest load of B.S. that I think I've heard from you, Rachel. Very nicely said, and were it attempted on a lesser individual, I believe you'd have had a shot."

"Damn." Rachel sighed and then looked into her mother's eyes. "What? I had to try, didn't I?" giggling a bit, the girl stood and took her plate to the sink. "No, if you will excuse me, I'd like to go to my room and get out of the way before the two of you decide to get all mushy on me or something."

"Coward," Shelby teased as she heard Rachel's door close. "So, are we about to get mushy, Billie Jean?" Sitting on Sue's lap, Shelby put her arms around the blonde woman's neck.

"I suppose that it is a possibility," Sue confirmed laying a gentle kiss to Shelby's lips, "but I really do want to talk to your parents before we officially move in together."

"And?" Shelby prodded.

"And I thought maybe we could host a back to school bar-be-que. Your extended family, friends, you know, so people could…." Sue trailed off and Shelby tucked her head under Sue's chin.

"I love it when you get shy and unsure of things," Shelby teased. "I think that's a wonderful idea. My family, Rachel and some of her friends, some of our friends. Let's do it."

"I'm glad that you like the idea, and I promise to try and be good in regards to Rachel's singing freak friends." Sue chuckled at Shelby's huff. "I'm kidding, Ethel. I think it will be nice. Steaks, burgers, hot dogs, and all the junk that comes with the cook out."

"No chocolate drink," Shelby sat up and looked at Sue squarely in the eyes. "None of it. Not one bottle."

"Understood." Sue's smile gave way as she kissed the tip of Shelby's nose. "Who knew the kid wouldn't be able to handle her chocolate drink no matter the circumstance?"

This chapter seemed to write itself. I hope it was enjoyed-even though it is really short (for me). I'm hoping to get more of this story out soon.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the PMs and comments. I do read them.
