I do not own Glee or any of the characters created by Ryan Murphy. If I did, we would see way more of Shelby. This story will contain spanking of a teenager. If that's not your thing stop reading now and go read something else.

Chapter 38

The summer had seemed to fly by and with Sue moving in with Shelby and Rachel, things not only seemed to move faster, but had fallen into a comfortable rhythm. Rachel still couldn't believe how easily Sue had fit into the life she had acquired with Shelby and that her new family seemed to be everything she needed.

The girl had had no more contact with LeRoy or Hiram Berry and Rachel had officially changed her name to Rachel Barbra Corcoran when Shelby had filed the paperwork they'd brought back with them after visiting the men.

Before they knew it only two weeks remained before the start of the school year. Sue and Shelby had organized the back to school celebration as promised and Rachel still couldn't believe that members of the Cheerios would voluntarily be coming to her home in just a few days. Wondering how her world had gotten so turned around Rachel decided to try and not figure it out; it would be easier that way, she was certain.

Entering the kitchen Rachel stopped short, "Um, Mama, Coach, what happened here?"

"Your mom, myself, an empty big box card and a big box store." Sue replied while unpacking one of the bags that littered the counter. "We're having a big party here in a couple weeks and standards must be upheld."

"All of this will hold for two weeks?"

"It sure will, E.J.", Sue replied. Turning around, the woman leaned against the counter and put her hand on Shelby's arm. "Time for a breath, Ethel. We need to make this unpacking more efficient. Make sure that we have everything we need except for the perishables."

"And how do you propose we do that?" Shelby asked leaning into the taller woman.

"Easy," Shelby gave Rachel a quizzical look.

"Oh, and what would make it so easy, Rachel?"

"You had a list, right?" Rachel asked.

"Yes."

"Then let me have the list," Rachel looked at the women. "As you unpack tell me what it is and I'll check it off the list. Then all you need to do is see what's not checked off the list."

"That's a great idea, E.J." Sue hugged Shelby and then stretched before turning back to the counter. "Okay, Ethel, you ready for this?"

"I am," Shelby responded. "Just let me give the list to Rachel, Billie Jean." Moving to her purse Shelby pulled out a small notepad with several pages full. "Here you go, Rachel."

Lifting the top page, Rachel whistled. "This is a lot of stuff. Are we going to have enough money for back to school clothes shopping?" She teased.

"If we don't, I have an extra Cheerios uniform you can use," Sue deadpanned as Shelby chuckled and Rachel groaned. "Now, let's get on with the list or we may be here until back to school meetings start."

"Are you serious?" Rachel was currently pushing a large cart through the largest big box store she'd ever been inside. "We honestly need that much meat?"

"We're having a cook out, Ethel the younger, you expected the list to consist of lettuce and carrots?"

"Well, I didn't expect it to contain almost two pages for steaks, burgers, chicken, hot dogs, and different types of sausages." Looking at Sue Rachel pointed to the cart half full of said products.

"No worries, Rachel." Shelby approached the cart her hands laden with items that she hoped would please her daughter. "I think I've taken care of your problem."

"How so?" Rachel asked as Shelby dumped the items into the cart.

"Look."

Reading the packages Rachel smiled at her mother, "Vegetarian burgers and sausages?"

"Yep." Shelby welcomed the unexpected hug from her daughter. "I figure if we can't get you to eat meat the least we can do is add some options for you. Just don't expect anyone else to enjoy them the way you seem to do."

"But are you going to cook them on the same grill with the meat?" Rachel asked.

"Nope." Sue pointed next to her at a medium sized boxed. "Table top grill. Perfect to heat up non-meat items for those who enjoy eating things with no flavor."

"Coach!" Rachel protested. "These have flavor. Just not the flavor of a dead animal."

"Excuse me then," Sue grinned at Shelby. "For those who enjoy the awesome flavor of tofu, beans, ground mushrooms, or chickpeas pretending to be meat."

Laughing quietly at the look on her daughter's face Shelby pulled Rachel into another hug and kissed the top of the girl's head. "Oh, don't look so offended, you know that Sue is right."

"Of course, I'm right," Sue spoke up. "I'm Sue Sylvester."

Rolling her eyes Rachel moved back to the handle of the cart. "Are we done, or do we still need to get more?"

Looking at the list in her hand, Sue looked into the cart and then back to the list. "I do believe we have a few more items before we're ready to check out. This is going to be a wonderful get together, don't you think, ladies?"

"I think if the New Directions, and the Cheerios don't kill each other it will be a fine day." Rachel quipped.

"There will be no killing on Thursday," Sue replied. "Some general mayhem, or maiming may occur, but absolutely no killing."

"You called?" Kurt's voice was a welcome relief to Rachel who had half of her closet on her bed while dresser draws remained open with clothing hanging out of them, others half closed with articles of clothing jammed into the drawer.

"I am so happy you are here!" Rachel pulled the boy fully into her room. "I have no idea what to wear today. I mean, it would be one thing if it was just friends and family."

"But you also have to worry about the Cheerios and whomever else shows up."

"Exactly," Rachel nodded her head vigorously. "I mean with Coach having had a hand on the guest list, you never know who might show up. I mean I wouldn't be surprised if the governor stopped in for a visit or the head of the TSA."

"Too true," Kurt began to go through Rachel's clothes throwing things onto the bed or shaking his head as he talked. "I still can't believe that your mom and Sue Sylvester are an item."

"You can't believe it?" Rachel asked as Kurt shoved some clothing into her hands. "You can't believe it? I live it, daily, Kurt. Sue officially moved in two weeks ago, but that's just because it meant the last of her things were finally merged with ours."

"Take those and try them on," Kurt instructed pushing Rachel towards the bathroom. "I want a starting point and what you have on right now, just won't do."

"What's wrong with what I have on?" Rachel asked moving into the bathroom and reemerging wearing the clothes Kurt had given her.

"Nothing if you're dressing for a middle schooler's birthday party." Kurt replied. "Not so good for a casual, yet important cookout, being held by the infamous duo of Sue Sylvester and Shelby Corcoran."

"Infamous, am I?" Shelby asked as she entered the bedroom. Moving the clothing on Rachel's bed, Shelby sat down and watched as Kurt shook his head and handed Rachel something else to try on.

Turning to the vocal coach while Rachel headed to the bathroom, Kurt barely contained his eye roll. "Of course you are, Coach Corcoran. I mean the metal underwear routine while walking on their hands was enough to have most fear you if not revere you somewhat."

"Really?" Shelby smiled as Rachel exited the bathroom and held back her laugh as Kurt shook his head and thrust something else at Rachel not even allowing her to talk before shoving her back into the bathroom.

Turning back to Rachel's mother Kurt picked through a few more articles of clothing before speaking again. "I mean you combine that with the cheerleading coach who not only shot members of her squad from canons, she did it with such aplomb that canons have been banned by all cheerleading competitions in the state of Ohio."

"You have to admit that canon routine was worthy of such a huge reaction."

"Of that, there is no doubt," Kurt agreed. "But as you can imagine, some of us are a little worried that two forces such as yourself and Coach Sylvester getting together might just bring an end to high school cheer and glee competitions as we know them. I mean, what ideas might you give one another?"

"I see," biting the inside of her cheek to keep a straight face, Shelby smiled when Rachel finally emerged from the bathroom. "I think you've done it, Kurt."

Smiling as he added a necklace and handed Rachel a pair of stud earrings Kurt nodded. "I believe I have, Coach."

"Nice job, Fairy Boy." Sue's voice came from the hallway and all eyes turned to see her leaning against the door jam.

"Billie Jean, what did I tell you about that?" Shelby admonished standing up and moving towards the blonde.

"Over the top?" Sue asked as Kurt merely looked at her.

"Just a bit, Coach." Rachel huffed. "I realize you're just showing your affection at his natural ability, but that name is a bit too much."

"Damn." Eying Kurt up and down Sue finally gave a brief smile. "Guess I'll just have to come up with something else then." She quipped before allowing Shelby to lead her down the stairs.
