I do not own Glee or any of the characters created by Ryan Murphy. If I did, we would see way more of Shelby. This story will contain spanking of a teenager. If that's not your thing stop reading now and go read something else.

Chapter 44

Entering the room, Shelby smiled. "Well, if it's not my two favorite gals." She said sitting on the bed next to Sue and Rachel.

"You play dirty, Mama." Rachel pouted. "Telling Sue about the wedgie."

"I thought it was genius myself." Sue interjected.

Laughing, Shelby kissed Rachel on the forehead and Sue on the lips before taking over from Sue to comfort Rachel. "Thank you, Billie Jean, I have it now." She spoke softly using her pet name for Sue.

Nodding, Sue stood and left after gently squeezing Shelby's shoulder on her way out and kissing the top of Rachel's head gently.

"So, let's talk." Shelby began, getting comfortable on the bed and making sure that Rachel was curled into her. "How do you feel?"

"Like my ass is on fire," Rachel deadpanned. "How do you think I feel?"

"Despite the obvious, Rachel." Shelby swatted Rachel's leg. "And watch your language, young lady." She warned. "You're still not old enough to speak however you want."

Rolling her eyes, Rachel nodded. "Okay, Mama." Sighing deeply, Rachel began to speak once more. "I do apologize for being so rude to you today. Apparently what Santana and I did with the phone company impressed even Sue but I didn't realize that the rush I was feeling would hurt your feelings. If it's any consolation, I think that Coach and I came to an agreement today."

"Oh?"

"Yeah, I don't disrespect you like that anymore and Sue won't bust my ass anymore like she did today."

"Rachel!"

"What?
"It's true."

"I know, but the language." Shelby suppressed her grin as Rachel groaned loudly.

"Really, Mama?" I'm lying here in pain and all you're going to imply is that my language is inappropriate?

"I'm implying that no matter what, Rachel Barbra, that you're too young to be using words like ass willy-nilly." At the snort from her daughter, Shelby let one loose as well, both giggling. Soon, they were joined by Sue who came into the room holding the phone in one hand and the take-out menus in the other.

"I hope I'm not interrupting, Ethel, EJ, but I wanted to let you know that I've ordered provisions which should be arriving momentarily."

"Pizza?"

"You know it," the cheer coach's gruff voice held a bit of warmth. "All meat, EJ." She couldn't help the smile at the teen's look of horror. "I'm kidding, EJ, yours has a salad on top, while your Mama and me have the usual plus mushrooms." Seeing the look of horror on Rachel's face Sue began to laugh. "What? Can't a woman try mushrooms on her pizza now and again?"

Watching Sue leave the room, Rachel and Shelby shared a look before shrugging. "I guess we're rubbing off on her." Shelby quipped.

"I guess so," Rachel agreed. "I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing."

"In this case, I'd say a good thing." Shelby quipped. "Anything to get more vegetables into that woman." Snorting again as Rachel gave her mother a strange look, Shelby shook her head and slid from the bed. "Join us when you're ready. "I'm going to go and check on Billie Jean."

"Mama, why do you and Coach do that?"

"Do what, Rach?"

"Call each other, Ethel and Billie Jean?"

Shelby took a deep breath and sat down on her daughter's bed once more. Taking Rachel's hands into her own she looked Rachel in the eyes, "I'm not really sure, Rachel. It started as a joke; I think. Now, we just do it to show our affection. Like Santana calling you Munchkin." Shelby winked when her daughter blushed. Standing once more, Shelby ushered herself from the bedroom and quietly shut the door behind herself.

Three months had passed since Rachel's first official spanking from Sue and the family had settled into a welcome routine of Friday night musical theatre their very own. Movies, of the musical variety, takeout, and Rachel or Shelby, sometimes joined by Sue, acting out their favorite part of the movie. So far, the movies had run the gamut of RENT, ANNIE, TARZAN, and even a PBS offering of Spring Awakening with Rachel making the perfect Wendella. Sue, in Annie being the perfect Ms. Hannigan and of course, Shelby the perfect Maureen in their family version of RENT.

However, this Friday would be different, and as Rachel's phone rang, she looked at the number in confusion. She didn't know anyone at a long number like that, did she? It looked almost like it could be an international number. Then in clicked. Her former fathers!

"H-hello?"

"Is this Rachel Berry Cocoron?" A male voice with a distinct accent asked.

"Yes," Rachel's voice was barely a whisper.

"Ms. Berry, this is Doctor Andy, Sue's friend, and your father's doctor." He began. "I'm sorry to make this call, but I wanted to be the one to tell you the news."

"What is it?" Rachel interrupted. "What's happened?" She was beginning to hypervenalate and wasn't sure how she'd made it into the now empty choir room. Sitting on a chair she braced herself for the news from the doctor.

"I'm sorry to tell you this dear, but LeRoy passed early yesterday and today we found Hiram with him, also dead from a drug overdose."

Choking on her sob, Rachel nodded and then pulled herself together as best as she could. "Thank you, doctor. I'll be sure to let my mother know as well." Hanging up the phone, she screamed as loudly as she could without thinking and was surprised when Sue was suddenly there within minutes. Not caring what anyone would think, she turned into the woman for comfort and screamed again before breaking into sobs. "My former fathers are dead," Rachel whispered.

"I'm sorry, Rachel." Sue comforted the girl as Will and the rest of the Glee club came into the choir room to see what the noise was, nobody expecting to see Sue Sylvester comforting a crying Rachel Berry Corcoran.

"Coach?" Santana questioned.

"Get Shelby on the horn, Santana. Tell her to get over here ASAP. We'll be in my office."

"You got it."

"What's going on?"

"None of your business, Brillo-head." Rachel directed as Sue led her from the choir room.

Hearing the clack of heels in the hallway before they even made it to her office, Sue stopped and waited for Shelby to meet them. "I got to her just as she broke down. I'm so glad Andy called me first."

"Always find the ETA." Sue gave a wry smile as Rachel fell into her mother's arms. "Hiram killed himself."

"I know, baby." Shelby kept walking toward Sue's office and the three finally sat down in Sue's office. Pulling Rachel onto her lap, Shelby began to rock her child as she hummed to her to calm Rachel.

"Why did Hiram kill himself? How could he be that selfish?" Rachel's confusion was beyond evident. "A part of me knew he would do it, but to know I was right, I hate that…." Her voice dropped off as she laid her head on her mother's shoulder and closed her eyes finally allowing herself some comfort.

Laying Rachel on her bed, Sue quietly covered the teen with her star blanket while Shelby removed the girl's shoes and socks before leaving the room and closing the door. "Thanks for the help, Billie Jean." Shelby began.

"Think nothing of it," Sue replied linking arms with Shelby. "What do you say to a beer?"

"I say, yes." Shelby smiled half-heartedly and walked with her girlfriend to the kitchen. Grabbing 2 beers, the women headed to the living area of the house after opening the bottles and throwing the caps in the trash.

Sitting on the couch the bottles clinked and they each took a large swig of the beverage. "That hits the spot." Sue spoke first. "Damn coward, that Hiram. Had a great kid and he didn't even care."

Leaning into her girlfriend, Shelby sighed and hugged the woman, "I have to agree with you on that, Billie Jean. I can't believe they left me with the clean-up."

"I can." Sue harumphed. "They've always been cowards. "You took one time to get the slushy bullying stopped. Those men never even tried to help Rachel with that."

"Did she ever tell them?" Shelby asked.

"I did." Sue chuckled at Shelby's look. "Got tired of the kid using the showers and Santana as her lookout. Not to mention borrowing the washer and dryer to wash those clothes of hers."

Shelby laughed at that. "Now, that I can believe."

Sue joined in briefly and then shook her head. "I told those two about it and they flat out refused to believe me and basically told me to let Rachel fight her own battles. They didn't want to cause trouble with the school."

Rolling her eyes, Shelby took a deep breath, "I can't believe they made her suffer like that. Of all the selfish, egotistical, jackasses, it's crazy, Billie Jean. Just crazy." Chugging the last of her beer, Shelby put the empty bottle on the table and sat back down folding her body into Sue's lap. "Think we'll do okay with this, her, and picking up the pieces of her former fathers?"

"I think with us in her corner we will do just fine and she will be fine and she will turn out A-okay." Sue's bottle joined Shelby's a moment later and Sue held the woman as she cried.

I know it's been a while. Amazing what a brain tumor, and a 6 month stay in a nursing home recovering from brain surgery without your things does. I'm still in the home and don't know when I'll be back to my house, I still can't live alone unfortunately, but am working on getting better. I'm having issues with insurance and some other stuff… but now that I have my laptop, I want to continue with my writing, it will help me, I think, in my recovery and I've reread my stories and have a new spark on things. For those of you waiting on Sam I am working on the next chapter. I'm thankful that I can still write and the only residual effect from the surgery is a shorter haircut and an eye issue.

**Update: Eye issue- I am now wearing reading glasses- no prescription needed and a new pair of contacts. I also have cataracts but the eye doctor wasn't sure when they would need to come off using surgery.
