Shanan had originally planned to go with the boys to see how their team assignments went, but Team Guy had been assigned to a mission and had to leave immediately. She had hoped this would be a short mission, but it ended up being their longest mission and they were gone for five and a half days.
By the time Shanan got home she was so tired that she didn't leave the house for days so that she could catch up on sleep and heal the sprain she'd managed to get in her wrist when she didn't turn her arm into water in time and suffered a pretty heavy blow.
And the boys were training so hard now with their own Sensei, they had to make plans to even chat so that they could tell her all about their new team.
After a few days, Shanan felt much more rested and the boys finally had some down time.
"Ok, tell me everything," she said excitedly as they ate dinner together for the first time in forever. "I'm so happy you guys are on the same team! Who else are you with?"
Naruto started blushing immediately. "Sakura. I even almost got her to go on a date with me!"
"By pretending to be me," Sasuke said resentfully as he rolled his eyes at Naruto impatiently. "He tied me up, Shanan."
"You said you wouldn't tell her," Naruto jumped up from his chair to lean closer to Sasuke. "I was already embarrassed enough getting diarrhea in the middle of our date, you should be glad I made it to the bathroom as you!"
Sasuke jumped out of his seat as well. "Be happy I defended you, Naruto! Your date was going terribly and Sakura is annoying. You could do so much better! Be glad that I ended it."
Shanan always missed this when she was away. "I mean, I know who you should like," she said quietly, even though neither of them were listening.
Naruto always got louder than Sasuke when they argued. "You did me a favor by ruining your own chances with her! She'll fall in love with me in no time," he said as he laughed.
"Ugh... you can have her," Sasuke said as he sat back down and looked sideways at Shanan.
"Ok, guys. Naruto, maybe don't pretend to be people. You should just be yourself. You're amazing and you deserve someone sweet."
He blushed again and sat back down. "You're right. I just know she'll fall in love with me eventually either way," he said dreamily.
Shanan laughed nervously at him and secretly hoped he would eventually notice Hinata. "Sounds good," she said. "Oh! Tell me about your Sensei," she remembered.
Naruto was the first to speak again. "Oh, he's not bad, but he really tried to trick us! He told us not to eat breakfast and then only brought two lunches for us and told Sasuke and Sakura not to let me have any or they would fail! But he was just trying to see if they would choose their teammate over the rules and that's all we had to do to pass his test! He said if we didn't pass, we would have to go back to the academy!"
"There was more to it than that, but, overall, that's accurate," Sasuke added. "He's very relaxed and refuses to tell us much about himself, but he seems pretty strong. I think we got lucky as far as Senseis go. He even told us we could use shuriken to attack him during the test. He was too fast, though. I've never seen anything like it, Shanan," he said, sounding more impressed than she had ever heard him.
"Wow," she said. "I'm glad you guys were able to pass his test, he sounds kind of intense," she said nervously. They had both worked so hard to graduate and having to return to the academy would've broken both of their hearts. "So what's his name?" she asked.
"Kakashi Hatake," Sasuke told her.
Shanan gasped and turned her head quickly to Sasuke. "Kakashi?" she asked again for clarification.
"Do you know him?" Sasuke asked almost with a twinge of jealousy.
"Uh..." she thought for a moment and shook her head. "No, actually. I must've just had some deja-vu. That was weird," she chuckled nervously.
No. She had definitely never heard of anyone named Kakashi. But he had better look out for the two most important people in her life if he's as strong and fast as they claim.
