Over the next week Shanan had gotten her lightning type completely under control. It made all the difference just having someone experienced not only explain it to her, but demonstrate it for her. And since Kakashi could use several chakra types, he was the perfect person to teach her.
She could now use it without it hurting her and she could switch between the two types quickly. She even combined her Chidori with Kakashi's once to make a bigger Chidori and they managed to take out a tree or two in the process, to which they ended training immediately and took off in separate directions. The next step on her list, though, was to combine the two types and create something different like Kakashi had mentioned.
Every day when they were done training they would get lunch and discuss plans for the next day's training. Shanan had some ideas for chakra combinations, but she was really excited about one in particular.
"I can tell you've been wanting to tell me about your new idea all day. So what's it gonna be?" he asked her as they were waiting on their food.
She was so excited about it, she could barely contain herself. "Ok, so it might be a little hard to understand, but I'll try to explain it. I want to turn myself into water and then like, evaporate myself up into the sky while also gathering more water to make a big cloud and then I can turn myself back to solid form, but be on top of the cloud and then I was thinking I can use Chidori to charge the cloud and create a storm. Something like that," she said almost all in one breath. She had been waiting all day to tell him about it.
Kakashi's eyes widened as he blinked slowly.
"It's stupid, isn't it?" she asked in a deflated tone.
"Not at all," he assured her. "It just sounds... dangerous and... I don't want you to get hurt. Practicing going up into the sky is going to be very difficult to do safely. That's all." He noticed that Shanan had been somewhat discouraged at that. "However, if we put our heads together, I'm sure we can figure out how to do this without you being hurt too badly. We are shinobi afterall, we put ourselves in danger every time we do a mission."
Shanan brightened back up. She had known it was a great idea. "I think if we can perfect it, then it'll be really awesome and powerful. I could use it as a weapon or even just to travel more quickly. Imagine if I use this during the Chunin Exams," she said enthusiastically.
"Ah... even if we're done with this particular jutsu by then, the need to use it at the Chunin Exams probably won't arise. But, you're right, if you did find a need, then you would probably be made Chunin right away." He was already trying to figure out a safer way for Shanan to practice her jutsu as he really was worried about it. He had seen shinobi that seemed to fly in one way or another, but it was not at all common.
Their food arrived and while they ate, they discussed jutsus and books and the boys as the topic turned to the Sharingan.
"So you, Sasuke and Itachi are the only people that can use the Sharingan now?" Shanan asked curiously.
"That's right,'' he told her. In fact, people often refer to me as The Copy Ninja."
Shanan laughed at him when he said that.
"Oh, is that funny to you?" he asked.
"Yes, actually, it's hilarious. You won't be copying any of my jutsus," she replied, smugly.
"Ah. Your signature no-handed jutsu." He hadn't actually forgotten about it and he really was impressed when he saw Naruto and Sasuke perform jutsu without using any hand signals. That had been another thing he and Sasuke discussed at length the time Sasuke told him about Shanan's lightning type chakra. "How do you know I haven't figured out a way around that? I am Sensei to the only other two people that can do it, you know?" He raised an eyebrow at her as he waited for her to react.
Shanan stopped mid-bite and looked at him with a hint of both disappointment and annoyance. "Have you?!"
Kakashi waited a few seconds before he answered her. "No. There may not be many Sharingan users left in this world, but I don't think that any one of them could have ever counteracted no-handed jutsus. So don't worry. And neither of the boys would share their technique with me anyway. Believe me, I asked."
Hearing that from Kakashi made Shanan happy. She had come up with and perfected something very impressive.
But then the happiness faded. She came up with no-handed jutsu to counteract a clan that, basically, no longer existed. Had it been really insensitive to Sasuke for her to have tried so hard, for months, to perfect this ability? She suddenly felt so awful about it that she had to quickly excuse herself so that Kakashi wouldn't see her cry. She also thought that she should go home immediately and beg for Sasuke's forgiveness.
