Sasuke did end up leaving the hospital before Shanan did. Once Lady Tsunade healed him, he was able to leave the next day. He came to visit for a few days, but then Tsunade sent them out on a mission.
Kakashi had already been sent out on his own solo mission, so it was just the boys and Sakura that went on this one and Shanan was obviously a bit worried about them.
Meanwhile, Lee had decided to go through with getting surgery so that he could continue being a ninja, even though it was risky. So Shanan stayed by his side as much as she could.
He had seemed so despondent lately, he clearly needed her and she was always happy to spend time with her close friends. And Lee was truly one of her favorite people to be around. They always had fun together and made each other laugh. Shanan hated seeing him so unlike himself.
The day of Lee's surgery had arrived and as Shanan was waiting to hear if he would be alright or not, the boys returned and Sasuke had been hurt again. But at least this time he wasn't unconscious.
She had been told not to leave her room today since there was so much going on, but she really wanted to see the boys and check on Sasuke, so she decided to try and sneak out. But of course, just as she went to open the door, someone else came in and she had to pretend to be doing something else instead.
"Sneaking out to see Sasuke?" Kakashi asked suspiciously. "I heard they just got back a few hours ago, but I thought I'd stop by to check on you first."
He never did say goodbye to Shanan before he left for his mission, so she was surprised and happy to see him as she went up to hug him.
He quickly hugged her back and then patted her head. "Alright... Have you heard about Lee yet?" he asked as he leaned against the sink.
Shanan laughed at his embarrassment. "Oh, no. I was actually waiting for someone to come and tell me. Have you heard anything?"
"Just now, actually."
Shanan was really hopeful that Kakashi was about to give her some good news.
"He's gonna need some time to recover, but his surgery was a success," he told her with a smile.
"Yes!" she yelled. She knew it would be, but she couldn't help but worry just a little. "Any idea when I can see him?"
"Soon. And Sasuke shouldn't be here long. I've heard that his injuries weren't too bad. Tsunade went and fixed him up immediately after Lee's surgery."
"They've been done that long? Shanan said, a bit annoyed.
"Yea-"
There was a sudden loud crashing sound followed by the smell of something burning and they both ran to the window and looked out, but couldn't see anything.
"I think that's on the roof. Wait here," he said as he ran to the door in a panic. He stopped and looked at Shanan quickly, but in a more calm manner. "I mean it, don't leave," he told her before closing the door.
He seemed serious, so she waited by the door for him to return. It felt like an eternity before the door opened again and the person that entered was, honestly, the last person she had expected.
"Sakura?"
"Shanan! You have to do something. Naruto and Sasuke just had a huge fight on the roof and... and Sasuke took off when Kakashi Sensei broke them up. He was so angry, he wouldn't listen. They almost killed each other."
Shanan stared at Sakura completely horrified. Naruto and Sasuke almost killing one another didn't sound like them at all.
"Are they ok? Where are they? Where's Kakashi?" Shanan demanded.
"They're fine. Naruto is still on the roof with Master Jiraiya and Kakashi Sensei took off after Sasuke."
Shanan ran past Sakura to go and find Sasuke. "Thank you for telling me," she yelled back at her.
Shanan ran as fast as she could, which at the moment wasn't very fast. But somehow she knew exactly where Sasuke was. It was almost as if she could sense his chakra.
When she finally made it to him, Kakashi was nowhere to be seen. However, there were four completely unfamiliar shinobi that appeared to be attacking him.
Shanan both activated Chidori and turned into a fine mist at the same time and closed in on them in no time. She completely engulfed one of them and electrocuted him, but another one sent some kind of a shock wave that made her fall down solid again.
"Shanan, no!" Sasuke yelled as he ran over to her.
The shock wave seemed to have made her unable to separate her two chakra types, which sent electric jolts through her body the same as it had before her training and she couldn't stop it.
Sasuke looked at her through pained eyes. He knew that he couldn't even touch her if he wanted to protect her from any further damage as it would electrocute him too and render him completely useless. But if he had been angry at the group that was attacking him before, then his anger was now multiplied by a hundred.
Shanan couldn't control her body, but she could see everything that was happening and she could see the black marks that were spreading over half of Sasuke's body. He seemed to move faster than ever and hit even harder than that, until similar black marks spread over all of their bodies.
The pain had become unbearable and she could no longer see anything at all and not only was she dealing with the pain from being electrocuted, but her head felt like it was going to explode. She couldn't separate her two chakra types, but she could separate the two kinds of pain that she was currently experiencing.
She wasn't sure, but before she blacked out, she thought she saw Sasuke sitting next to her, still covered in black marks after having been beaten by the strangers.
