Three days had passed and Shanan woke up suddenly, wincing in pain as she sat up in bed. She heard someone running over to her and then sitting by her, but her head hurt too much to open her eyes and see who it was.

"Are you alright? Do you need me to call someone to help?" Kakashi asked her.

However, the pain had started to dissipate some already. "I think I'm ok," she said through groans as she blinked.

"Are you sure?" he asked concernedly.

Shanan gasped and turned her head towards him as tears filled her eyes. "Kakashi..." she shook her head at him and reached for his face. "I can't see." She blinked rapidly. "I can't see anything!"

Kakashi gently removed her hand from his face, set it down on her leg and ran out of the room without a word. But it was only a few seconds before she heard what sounded like multiple people running back into her room.

She sat there crying silently, unable to make heads or tails out of anything that was happening until she heard Lady Tsunade's voice.

"Shanan, I'm going to examine you, I need you to lay down."

She felt someone grab her hand on the other side of her bed.

"It's just me," Kakashi said soothingly. "Everything's gonna be alright. I'm gonna help you lay down," he told her as he guided her.

She felt Tsunade's hands on her side and could feel her chakra aura as she examined her.

Just then she experienced a really sharp pain in both of her eyes as she sat up again almost screaming. She was sure her eyes were bleeding. They hurt so bad. She put her hands up to them to see if she could feel any blood, but there wasn't any. Still, this was the worst pain she had ever felt in her life.

And then, it stopped.

She stopped crying out.

She blinked slowly.

She could see her hands in front of her.

She moved her hands out of the way.

She could see her legs covered up in front of her.

She turned to look at Kakashi.

She could see Kakashi and he looked... stunned.

Shanan blinked in confusion. "I think it's ok, I can see you now," she said, a bit surprised and relieved.

Kakashi looked to Tsunade for help and Shanan looked over at her too.

Tsunade's eyes widened and she gasped as soon as she looked back at Shanan.

"Everyone but Kakashi leave now!" she ordered and they all dropped what they were doing and hurried out of the room.

Shanan was suddenly very concerned. She could see. And her head no longer hurt. Not even a little. Not even that dull aching feeling she had still had on what she considered good days.

"What's going on, Kakashi?" she pleaded.

He looked at her probably more compassionately than she had ever remembered Kakashi looking at her, or anyone else for that matter.

"Sharingan," he said quietly.

Shanan shook her head in confusion. "What about the Sharingan?" she asked him.

"This doesn't make any sense! How could you have ever absorbed that much chakra from one person to unlock something so powerful?" Lady Tsunade asked rhetorically. "Do you feel any different?"

Shanan was still very confused. She wasn't sure what they were trying to say, so she looked pleadingly again at Kakashi since he was the one she trusted.

Kakashi sat next to Shanan on her bed. "When you opened your eyes just now. You had an activated Sharingan. You have an activated Sharingan. Not just any Sharingan, Shanan, yours is blue."

"I do? But... how?" she asked, almost panicking now.

"Uchiha," Tsunade said, shaking her head. "Guess he left you with a parting gift," she chuckled as she stood up. "I'll be back soon. I suddenly find myself needing to do some research."

And with that she left them alone.

Shanan turned to look at Kakashi quickly. "Parting gift?" she asked impatiently.

Kakashi sighed heavily. He knew that he was going to be the one that had to tell her, but he also knew that it was going to be terrible.

He nodded so gently, it had barely been noticeable. And, suddenly, he looked very guilty. "I'm... so sorry, Shanan," he almost whispered. He was speaking very softly so that Shanan would truly know how sorry he was. "Naruto tried to stop him. A whole team went after him, including Neji and Lee. Even Gaara and his siblings tried to help. So many skilled shinobi tried, Shanan. He just… refused to come back." His voice almost sounded shakey there at the end.

Shanan stared at him as her Sharingan disappeared.

It felt like her heart had shattered into tiny pieces.

It felt like all the oxygen had left her lungs.

It felt like she'd shrunk down so small that she didn't even exist anymore.

And for once, she couldn't even cry.

No. iThis/i was truly the worst pain she had ever felt in her life.
