Every night Shanan and Kakashi took turns reading to one another. They either snuggled close or he would put his head in her lap or she would lay with her head on the arm of the couch with her legs resting across his thighs.

She almost always fell asleep when it was his turn to read. Sometimes she didn't even try to pretend that she was going to listen, she would just fluff up one of the pillows at the end of the couch and snuggle up with the throw blanket and fall right to sleep. But he still read aloud so that she could hear his voice. He was surprised that she never once asked how she got to bed, but he also knew her to be a heavy sleeper.

On nights when he couldn't sleep, he'd ask her to sing to him like she did when they lived with her parents and it always soothed him. His favorite song that she sang was called "Sukiyaki" and it always made him think of her, because he thought that they were both beautiful.

They usually snuggled when they slept, it wasn't weird to them, it's just what they had always done. But as they got older Shanan decided that she should probably go to her own room soon. And that they might as well get used to it before they were assigned to their squads.

She hated being in her room though. Kakashi's room was just more familiar to her and she missed him being right there with his arm around her. And even though he was against the switch in the first place, he decided to sleep in her room with her for a week to help her transition. It wasn't something either of them really wanted to do, but she knew they should.

They still did everything else the same, though. And they were training harder than ever to prepare for their squad placements.

Kakashi's signature move was his Chidori, which always seemed to impress people, but his main chakra type was lightning, which he had inherited from his dad.

Shanan's main chakra type was water. Her parents weren't shinobi, but water types were prevalent in the Land of Water where they were from, so it was no surprise to them when she displayed natural talents.

However, she could also use Chidori. As discovered when lightning had engulfed her hand one day out of nowhere and reacted negatively to her water type. Kakashi immediately helped her quell it, though, and they spent the next week training until she could control it.

And Kakashi was able to use Shanan's water type too. He could turn himself into water and gather it from the air the same as she could, so they both worked together to find ways to combine the two.

Kakashi's favorite one was the one he'd named Electric Spear, where he'd gather water from the air into a long spear and then touch one end with Chidori and charge the whole thing. It was a way to use Chidori long distance if they needed to. They could even make it twist and turn to reach multiple targets. The trees in their backyard were all pretty scorched from their practices.

They were finally placed on their squads and had hoped they would be on the same one, but they weren't.

Kakashi was placed on Minato Namikaze's squad with Obito Uchiha and Rin Nohara.

Shanan was placed on Kushina Uzumaki's squad with Might Guy and Asuma Saritobi. So things weren't all bad, according to Shanan.

Kakashi's first overnight mission left Shanan alone and scared. She was a trained shinobi, but being home by herself wasn't something she was used to. So even though she had made a big deal out of them separating rooms, she often went and slept in his bed for comfort.

Shanan's first overnight mission also left Kakashi alone and scared. He didn't find the same comfort in sleeping in her bed, however it did help to snuggle with her pillow and sing his favorite song to try and lull himself to sleep.
