Kushina got out of the hospital just in time for Minato's funeral.

His wasn't the only life that had been lost that night. Many more shinobi were remembered at the service, but not as many as there would have been if he hadn't sacrificed himself.

Shanan and Kakashi both noticed how it seemed to rain at every single funeral they'd ever been to and that it always made everyone even more sad.

"I hope the sun shines at my funeral," Kakashi said as he placed his flower. "People shouldn't be this sad for me."

Shanan squeezed his hand. She never wanted to think about that.

Their last task set by Minato had been to protect Kushina and Naruto and Shanan and Kakashi still took that order very seriously.

They visited as often as they could and brought food and cooked and helped Kushina take care of Naruto until she felt better both mentally and physically.

Kushina always tried to refuse their help, but they knew that she was just being polite. And Kakashi really enjoyed feeding and playing with Naruto while Kushina got some rest and Shanan cooked.

Kakashi also got Naruto started on books early and often read his namesake book to him, since Kakashi already liked some of Jiraiya's other writings anyway...

And then Shanan sang to him after dinner just before they went back home.

Kakashi also drew several pictures of Minato doing various things to keep in an album for Naruto to give to him when he got older. And even drew a big family portrait of the three of them for Kushina to hang up, which made her cry.

They both really enjoyed helping Kushina and just loved Naruto so much.

It had been eight months since The Nine Tails Attack on Konoha and Shanan and Kakashi were sixteen now. They mostly did various Anbu missions for the Third Hokage, mostly peace keeping missions and to keep an eye out for the masked man that caused Minato's death.

But whoever he was, he was good at hiding and they never did hear anything else about him.

Ever since the attack and Minato's death, Shanan and Kakashi spent most of their freetime training and trying to create new jutsus that they could use together. Their best ones were always the ones they could do together. They still weren't sure why they could use each other's chakra types, but they also didn't really question it too much. They just knew that they made the perfect team in every way.

Kakashi had finally come up with a new idea for a jutsu and decided to tell Shanan about it one day when they were training with their swords.

"I've been wanting to try this one out," he told her. "Let's get to the top of the trees."

Shanan followed him up to stand at the top of a tree.

"Now what?" she asked.

"Make a cloud. Right above us. Make it big."

She shrugged and did her hand signals to create a cloud and made it cover the entire training area as Kakashi jumped a few trees away.

"Are you ready?" he yelled over to her.

"I guess!" she yelled back.

Kakashi did a hand signal and nothing happened. He tried a slightly different one and nothing happened.

"Try this one!" Shanan yelled over to him and showed him a different hand movement to do in place of the part he'd already changed once.

He did the variation Shanan had shown him and the cloud started pouring down like a waterfall and flooded the whole field.

Shanan looked back over at him wide-eyed.

"That was amazing!" she said as she dried up the water on the ground. "I wanna try!"

Kakashi nodded at her and made his own cloud for her to practice on.

Once it was big enough, she did the same hand movements he'd done and once again the cloud poured water out like a waterfall until it was gone.

Kakashi jumped back over to Shanan and dried the water on the ground.

"I thought you'd enjoy that," he said as he smiled.

Shanan laughed a little. "What are you calling it?"

"Skyfall."

"Sounds good to me. Imagine using that and then Chidori on the ground," she said as she shuddered.

Kakashi raised an eyebrow at her. "Not a bad idea."

They went back to their regular training for most of the night, but tried the new jutsu a couple of more times before going home.It wasn't complicated, but it would probably come in handy someday.
