Chapter 6: Unexpected

We find ourselves in the Underworld City as Kaz and Tom were walking down the road with Tom having a nervous look on his face.
"Tom will you chill out? He should be here any minute." Kaz assures.
"Kaz we gotta hurry or we'll be late for my battle." Tom said.
"Look there's the game and then there's the game behind the game, you gotta play both." Kaz said as Tom opened his bag to see tons of slimy red scales.
"Ugh these are so gross." Tom cringed.
"Yeah and they stink." A familiar voice said.
Looking over they saw Roxas and Sona across the street.
"Roxas, buddy good to see you." Tom said.
"Hey Sona. What are you guys doing here?" Kaz asks.
"Same as you two, looking for scans." Roxas said.
"However the horrible odor from your backpacks drew our attention." Sona said.
"What's in those things?" Roxas asks.
"Dractyl Scales." Tom said showing them causing Roxas and Sona to cringe in disgust.
"So Roxas." Tom gestures for him to lean in. "She's kinda cute, she your girlfriend?"
"My what?" Roxas asks surprised.
"Why on earth would want to carry around those things?" Sona asks when suddenly they heard a strange cry as a small green creature with big ears leaped at Tom.
"Aaah! Roxas help it's gonna eat me!" Tom screams.
"Easy fellas." Kaz chuckles pulling the creature off.
"Eat a human? Yuck, too many bones." It said.
"Guys, this is H'earring. My inside source. I bring him goodies and he hooks me up with premier scans." Kaz explains.
"Wait you mean." Roxas said as they look to see H'earring gobble up all the scales grossing them all out.
"Ugh disgusting." Sona said.
"Alright H'earring what do you got?" Kaz asks.
"New Battlegear." H'earring said when he heard a noise.
Looking up they saw a small green creature riding a mowercycle, this was Blazer.
"That's the battlegear? I have a Mowercycle." Kaz said when they heard a loud crash.
Turning around they see the building behind them start to wobble before it came down on them.
Lucky for them they were all right under the window so they were fine.
From the wreckage they saw a large two legged weapon with multiple cannons on it.
"I bet you don't have one of those." H'earring said as they look to see atop this powerful contraption was Chaor himself.
"Chaor." Sona said in awe.
"What is that thing?" Roxas asks.
"A Vile Driver." H'earring said as they ran out of the way to not get crushed.
"Give me that map, Blazer or I'll shut your spying eyes forever!" Khaor threatens.
"Nothin doing Chaor because I'm gonna find all your Underworld hidey holes and you can't stop me." Blazer said
"We'll see." Chaor narrows his eyes as both creatures readied their battlegear.
"Uh oh looks like Blazer is challenging Khaor to a showdown." Kaz said.
"He'll get crushed. He's crazy." Tom said.
"Maybe not, the Mowercycle is a very fast piece of gear." Sona said.
"She's right, Blazer's smart. He's a master scout and mapmaker for the Overworld. He's been stealing secrets from Chaor for a long time." H'earring said.
"So that means the little guy must have a strategy." Roxas said interested.
As Blazer raced in Chaor fired multiple blasts at him but Blazer was able to outmaneuver him and race down the street forcing Chaor to follow him.
"H'earring you just earned all the slimey scales you can eat. I gotta scan that thing." Kaz said.
"Me too, that thing can really help my deck." Sona said.
"I want one too." Roxas smiles.
"What? But I was hoping you guys could give me tips for my next battle against this guy, Peyton." Tom said.
"Peyton? Tell him I said hi." H'earring said.
"Who's Peyton?" Roxas asks.
"A very experience Chaotic Player, he's good, your friend might have trouble." Sona said.
"Yikes." Roxas said.
"Sorry Tom but this opportunity is too good to pass up. Good luck with you battle." Kaz said.
"You're gonna need it, or Peyton will crush you." Sona warns.
"Roxas, your girlfriend is mean." Tom said causing Sona to blush at that title before he ports away.
"Me? Roxas' girlfriend?" Sona said surprised.
"I was surprised he thought that too." Roxas said while Kaz chuckles.
"Yeah that's a good one. Sona's your girlfriend." Kaz smirks when he was suddenly punched in the shoulder. "Ow!"
"Oops." She said in a harsh tone.
Back in Chaotic, we find ourselves in a drome battle where Vinta was facing Staluk at Cordac Falls.
As they were on the edge of the cliff, Staul charges in with Vinta firing multiple wind attacks but Staluk dodges them.
"Wind Slash!" Vinta said firing a blade of air but Stalux jumps over it.
"Power Pulse!" Staluk said firing a glowing fist knocking Vinta back towards the edge.
Digging his claws into the rocks, Vinta narrowly avoids falling.
As Staulk fires a Rock Wave, a Torwegg appears on Vinta's back allowing him to fly up and dodge it.
"What the?" Staluk gasps as Vinta flew in and rammed him towards the edge.
"Sorry Horsey but this rodeo is over! Tornado Tackle!" Releasing a giant tornado it slams into Staluk knocking him off the cliff and when he hits the ground Staluk turns to code.
In the drome we see Vinta cheer as he turns back into Joey.
"The Winner, DesertUnderdog."
"Ah yeah! Who's the man?" Joey smiles.
At a table, Sarah was sitting with Erika and Miles.
"Clever combination back there." Erika said.
"Yeah good call giving Vinta the Torwegg." Miles said when Sarah noticed Tom arrive.
"Hey Tom!" Sarah calls out but he didn't hear her.
"I don't care what they say. I'm not gonna freak out." Tom said.
"Hey Tom!" Sarah said getting his attention.
"Oh hey Sarah. Uh you guys are Roxas' friends right?" Tom asks.
"Yeah I'm Erika and this is Miles." She introduced when Joey walks in.
"Hey guys, did you see my win?" Joey asks.
"Yeah Joey, you rocked it." Erika said.
"Where's Roxas? I hope he saw." Joey said.
"Roxas? He's in the Underworld with Sona." Tom points out causing Erika to twitch.
"Oh…Sona huh?" Erika growls.
"Hey Tom, you wanna join us my man Peyton is about to battle?" Joey said.
"He has tons of cool scans but he never uses them the way you think. You can learn a lot watching him trash some poor sucker." Sarah agrees.
"I can't…um I'm the sucker." Tom said causing them all to pause.
"Oh…yikes." Miles said.
"Well there's always hope. You could win, I guess, somehow." Sarah said.
"Yo Joey my man!" Joey looks over to see a large teen with brown hair, a green jacket and yellow shirt, and shorts walk over, this was Peyton.
"Peyton!" Joey said as they high fived.
"I saw your match bro, respect." Peyton said as they fist-bumped.
"Thanks man." Joey said.
"Oh great two of them." Sarah rolls her eyes. "Hey Peyton."
"Sarah. Dig this, today I'm relying totally on my intuitive innerness to deal with the unexpected. I just walked from the transport center eyes shut from memory." Peyton said.
"Nice." Joey said.
"Weird, but interesting." Erika agrees.
"Peyton, this is Tom. He's new and he's battling you today." Sarah introduced.
"Another unexpected encounter, well nice to meet you all. Any friend of Sarah or Joey is a friend of mine. Even if I am about to kick the Chaotic out of ya." Peyton laughs.
Back in the Underworld City, Roxas, Sona, Kaz and H'earring were hiding behind a fountain as Chaor fired everything he had at Blazer knocking him off his Mowercycle.
'Oh man, Khaor has the little guy finished.' Roxas thought as Khaor walks up to him.
"I ain't scared of you. Show me what you got." Blazer taunts.
Taking the challenge, Khaor aims the cannons at him but when he fired nothing happened.
"Darn it! The cannon is shot!" Chaor roars as Blazer uses this chance to run away laughing. "Laugh while you can Blazer, once Ulmar fixes this thing I'll track you down and make you pay!"
"Now's your chance, scan it." H'earring said.
"We can't scan a broken battlegear. If the cannons don't work it's useless." Sona said.
"So what do we do?" Roxas asks.
"I say we follow him and when Ulmar fixes it we scan it." Kaz suggests.
"Sona you're the Underworld Player, who's Ulmar?" Roxas asks.
"In a word, crazy. He's in charge of making many of the weapons in the Underworld and needless to say he's not exactly the sanest creature." Sona warns.
Meanwhile at the Crellen Drome, Sarah was walking with Tom and Peyton.
"See you on the inside." Peyton said entering the drome.
"He's weird but nice and a great Chaotic Player. He's not unbeatable though. Just don't rely on strong creatures or strategy." Sarah said.
"Then what do I do?" Tom asks.
"Give Mr. Unexpected something unexpected." Sarah said.
"Like what?" Tom asks interested.
"If I knew it wouldn't be unexpected." Sarah said.
"Man, I liked it better when Roxas was the one giving me tips." Tom said entering the drome.
Inside, both players faced off.
'I know Sarah said to do something unexpected but Maxxor is my best creature. I gotta use him. As for battlegear, I'll use the Cyclance to give him air attacks on top of Maxxor's fire and earth attacks and finally the Song of Embernova to heat things up.' Tom thought setting up his team and choosing 10 locations.
On the other side, Peyton had his eyes closed as his wands waved all over the place.
"Hey! What are you gonna do? Pick the cards with your eyes closed?" Tom mocks.
"Dude, that is an awesome great idea." Peyton said as he closed his eyes to pick his creature, battlegear, mugic and locations. "Done."
"Lock your decks."
Clicking the button, we see the battle will be between Maxxor and Malvadine.
"Yes! Maxxor has way more power than Malvadine." Tom grins.
In the stands, Sarah, Miles, Erika and Joey were watching.
"He really thinks the match is his already?" Miles asks.
"Spoken like a true player who has no idea what he's dealing with." Sarah said.
"It's gonna be fun watching Peyton wipe the floor with him." Joey chuckles.
"Maxxor's a powerful card, but Peyton has experience." Erika said.
"In this one on one battle, MajorTom will be the attacker."
Spinning the location we see it landed on the Rock River Canyon.
"Yes. Look out Peyton, Maxxor attacks Malvadine. Let's get Chaotic!" Tom said as both touched their cards and transformed.
As a bright light engulfs them, Maxxor looks around for Malvadine.
'Maxxor knows this location inside and out, it'll be a snap to find him.' Tom thought when Malvadine approached him with the liquilizer.
"Hey dude." Malvadine said getting his attention. "You're kind of new at this right? And I like a challenge, so take your best shot. I'll even holster my liquilizer for now." Malvadine said making it disappear.
"You asked for it! Ember Swarm!" Maxxor said throwing a powerful fire attack at Malvadine making him fall off the cliff and into the water. "Hope you can swim."
Little did he know some footsteps were heading towards.
"Should have packed some Spectral Viewers dude." Malvadine said as Maxxor was knocked to the ground. "How are you gonna fight me if you can't see me?" Malvadine asks.
Maxxor tries to strike back but Malvadine nails punch after punch with Maxxor being unable to see him.
"Hope you can swim dude." Malvadine said appearing in front of Maxxor and pushing him off the cliff and into the water.
"Ouch talk about payback." Miles winces.
"Even Roxas did better against me without a Spectral Viewer." Joey said.
"Well unlike Tom, Roxas went in prepared thanks to help from yours truly." Erika smirks pointing to herself.
"Is that so?" Sarah asks looking at her.
As Maxxor climbs out of the water, he catches his breath.
'I forgot, Mipedians like Malvadine can turn Invisible.' Tom thought.
"Weather bulletin!" Malvadine calls out. "It's Hail Storm time!"
Firing a powerful snowstorm, Maxxor is forced to run for cover.
"You can't win that way dude. Don't run from the unexpected. Face it! Fight it!" Malvadine said diving down into the water.
Looking to the water, Maxxor could see the ripples made from where Malvadine walked.
"Here's something unexpected. I can see you." Maxxor said summoning his Cyclance and firing a bolt of lightning zapping Malvadine. "Gotcha!"
As Malvadine reappeared he ran out of the water and further into the canyon.
At Ulmar's castle, we look inside to see a small green creature with the top of his head cut off so we can see his brain, this was Ulmar.
"Oh, he's never satisfied. Well these new reactors should be powerful enough, even for Chaor." Ulmar said climbing off the Vile Driver but when he did a butterfly flew onto his arm causing him to freak out and shoo it away.
"Who gets afraid of a little butterfly? Honestly." Roxas asks.
"Told you." Sona said.
"You're right, Sona. He's a total weirdo, but he's a day at the beach compared to Khaor." Kaz said.
"You think you can handle that Vile Driver of his in a battle?" H'earring asks.
"Oh yeah, imagine what that thing can do for me and my Underworlders." Sona said.
"If I put my Khaor on that thing I'm sure to win battles." Kaz said.
"Okay but how are we gonna get Dr. Crazy away from it?" Roxas asks.
"Easy we just need someone to distract Ulmar for us." Kaz said and almost instantly all look to H'earring.
"Bad plan, make another one." H'earring said.
"Good luck." Sona said putting H'earring on cart and Kaz pushed him down the path before the cart crashes down the stairs.
"Intruder!" Ulmar said following after him.
"Wow, Sona remind to stay on your good side." Roxas said.
"Wise call." Sona said as they all took out their scanners and scanned the Vile Driver. "Excellent."
"With a big thing like this drome battles will be easy." Roxas said.
"It is pretty big. Might not be a good idea to use it for the first time when a battle is at stake. Maybe I better take it for a test drive." Kaz said.
"Wait what?" Roxas and Sona said as the same time.
"Kaz are you nuts? You can't just take something like this out. Ulmar will notice instantly." Roxas said.
"Roxas is right Kaz, just take it to the Beta Drome it's not worth it." Sona agrees.
"Don't worry I'm not gonna break it." Kaz said going up to the controls. "This must make it go forward." Flicking a switch and pulling the lever the Vile Driver turns around and starts stomping around in an uncontrollable manner. "How do I stop this thing?!"
"Stop pressing things and get off!" Sona yells when the Vile Driver turns to her.
"Sona!" Acting quick Roxas yanks her out of the way causing them both to fall back as Kaz smashed other things around them.
Slowly recovering Sona saw that she was on top of Roxas and smiles.
"Well aren't you the night in shining armor." She winks.
"Oh uh you're welcome." Roxas said nervously.
Back at the battle, Maxxor had followed Malvadine into the Crystal Cove.
"No place left to run, Peyton." Maxxor said as Malvadine appears in front of him.
"Who's running?" Malvadine asks.
Firing the Cyclance, it zaps Malvadine but the blast bounces off the crystals and zaps Maxxor with his own attack.
"You can't use the Cyclance in here without hurting yourself. This place intensifies attacks like my Wind Slash!" Malvadine said blasting Maxxor to the ceiling before he crashed to the ground.
"Still here." Maxxor said getting up. "What else you got?!"
"How about Fearocity?!" Malvadine said firing dark scary spirits at Maxxor but he repels them with ease.
"Nice move." Joey said.
"Tom's Maxxor has too high a courage to be affected by Fearocity." Erika said.
"Maybe Tom might have a chance after all." Miles said.
"I'd say a one in a million chance." Sarah smirks.
At Ulmar's castle, Ulmar has H'earring corned.
"I've got you now." Ulmar said taking out two vials to throw at him when suddenly they heard panicking.
"Look out!" Roxas and Sona yell as they ran for their lives with the Vile Driver right behind them.
Panicking all of them ran out the front door as fast as they could before Kaz broke it down.
In another part of the city, Nivenna was walking by when she heard the loud noise.
"Huh?" Leaping up onto the roofs she saw it was coming from Ulmar's. "What's going on this time?"
"You thieving fool! You're going to destroy it!" Ulmar yells.
"Kaz get off that thing right now!" Sona yells.
"Don't worry I got it under control!" Kaz said.
"No you don't!" Roxas said as they avoided getting crushed.
"My beautiful creation!" Ulmar panics.
"Kaz turn to the right! The right!" H'earring yells as Kaz pulls on the lever with all his might but when he did he broke the lever and ended up falling off causing the Vile Driver to crash into the wall getting totally destroyed.
"Whoops." Kaz said when he was suddenly punched again by Sona. "Ow!"
"I told you get off!" Sona yells.
"I'm sorry." Kaz said.
"Way to go Kaz. Next time you wanna scan a battlegear leave it alone." Roxas glares.
"No!" Ulmar whines in agony.
"Well this was fun! Let's do this again sometime pal!" Kaz said teleporting out.
"Sona you go ahead I'll catch up." Roxas said running around the corner.
"Be careful Roxas." Sona said porting out.
"Kaz!" H'earring yells running in fear as Ulmar chased him.
"You'll pay for this!" Ulmar yells throwing multiple vials at H'earring.
Trying to run away, the explosion caused H'earring to trip and fall.
Turing around H'earring saw Ulmar approach him ready to finish him off.
Suddenly H'earring saw something charge in.
"Huh?" H'earring said when Roxas wearing his Organization Coat with his hood over his head leaped in and swung Oblivion knocking Ulmar back.
"What the?" Ulmar said as he saw the unknown enemy stare him down. "Who are you?"
Readying his keyblade, Roxas charged in causing Ulmar to yelp in fear.
"Flame Orb!" Ulmar said firing multiple fireballs at him but Roxas swings Oblivion slashing the fireballs away before slashing Ulmar sending him crashing into the wall.
"Incredible." H'earing said in awe.
As Roxas slowly approached him, H'earring flinched in fear until Roxas offered him a hand and helped him up.
"Oh uh thank you." H'earring said when Roxas gestures with his hands for him to run. "Yeah good idea, I won't forget this." H'earring said running away as fast as his little legs could carry him.
Turning around Roxas saw Ulmar slowly getting up.
"I don't know who you are but you will pay for what has happened." Ulmar said as flames came out of his hands.
"Hardly." Roxas said.
"Flame Orb!" Ulmar said throwing them.
"Watera!" Roxas said firing a blast of water putting out the flames and creating a cloud of steam.
Stepping back, Roxas hid within the steam cloud.
"Come out and fight coward!" Ulmar said looking around.
"Wish granted." Appearing behind Ulmar turns to see Roxas whack him with his keyblade sending him crashing to the ground.
"Well this guy wasn't much of a challenge." Roxas said before making his escape.
Back in the drome battle, Maxxor and Malvadine were staring each other down.
"The Fearocity attack was just for fun. Your energy is so low I can goof around a little now that we're almost done here." Malvadine said.
"We're not done yet. I still have my Mugic." Maxxor said.
"Too little too late." Malvadine said.
'Not if I do something unexpected.' Tom thought.
"Song of Embernova! Light it up!" Maxxor said as a ray of light hit Malvadine and the light reflected off the crystals trapping Malvadine in place.
"Excellent, using the cave to your advantage. Very unexpected. Too bad I trained myself to deal with the unexpected." Malvadine said.
"You survived the Ember nova but what are you gonna do now? You can't move." Maxxor said.
"Then I'll level the playing field so you can't move either. Rustoxic!" Malvadine breathes a brown toxic that upon touching Maxxor trapped him where he stood.
"Now we're both stuck except I haven't used my battlegear yet." Malvadine said as his Liquilizer appeared. "You see dude this was all a trap. Every move I made was to sucker you in here and now you're gonna get out the hard way!" Malvadine said before firing turning Maxxor into code.
"The winner, PeytonicMaster."
In the main area, Tom sat down with Sarah, Erika,, Miles and Joey.
"Come on Tom, you got it happens." Joey said.
"Yeah and you weren't totally terrible." Sarah said.
"You did pretty good for being up against Peyton." Miles said as Peyton walked by and everyone congratulated him.
"I'll be right back." Tom growls getting up to meet him.
"Hey dude, nice battle." Peyton said.
"Wasn't it enough to beat me?! Why did you have to go bragging about your great strategy? You wanted an enemy Mr. Unexpcted? Well you got one." Tom said.
"Bragging? Dude I was trying to teach you my moves and do you really think I give strategy to my enemy? Not my style. By the way as a player you rock." Peyton smiles.
"Thanks Peyton, I'm sitting over there with Sarah and Joey wanna join us?" Tom asks.
"Take me to them." Peyton said
As they sat down Sona and Kaz walked over with Kaz holding his cheek in pain as he appeared to be covering a giant slap mark.
"Hey guys you missed quite a match." Miles said.
"Kaz what happened to you?" Joey asks.
"Kaz needed to disciplined for his reckless behavior." Sona said.
"Yeah that." Kaz winced.
"Roxas must be pretty brave to her as a girlfriend." Tom mumbles.
"She's not his girlfriend." Erika growls.
"Really because I thought that—OW!" Before Tom could finish Erika stomps of his foot shutting him up.
"Hey guys, what I'd miss?" Roxas asks walking in.
"Where were you?" Sarah asks.
"Was trying to find a good moment to port out." Roxas said.
"How'd your scan quest go?" Tom asks.
"It was a real…blast." Kaz said.
Arriving at the castle, Nivenna looks to see the trashed Vile Driver and Ulmar on the ground.
"What the?" Nivenna walks up and kicks him. "Wake up."
"Ugh my brain." Ulmar groans.
"What happened here?" Nivenna asks.
"A creature…a strange creature showed up. He had a strange battlegear. It looked like, a key." Ulmar said getting her attention.
"What did he look like? Was he an Overworlder?" Nivenna asks.
"I don't know." Ulmar said when Nivenna grabs him by the lab coat and lifts him up to look her in the eyes.
"How do you not know what kind of creature attacked you?" She growls.
"H-He was wearing a black coat that covered his whole body I couldn't see his face." Ulmar stutters in fear.
"I see." Letting him go Nivenna storms off. "So this black coat has the battlegear now. I find the coat I find the battlegear." Nivenna said determined.
