The meeting went well. Tsunade could've been a little less abrasive towards Sasuke, but she didn't throw him in jail. Shanan had begged her not to months ago, if ever he returned.

When they left, Sasuke went ahead to his apartment and Shanan and Kakashi helped Naruto pack his things up to go back to his own apartment.

They said their goodbyes and Naruto promised he'd bring Sasuke over for dinner the next night.

Once Naruto was gone, Shanan laid on the couch and Kakashi lifted her legs up and sat down and gently laid her legs across his lap. He leaned his head back on the back of the couch and grabbed her hand as they sat quietly for a minute.

"Can we talk about earlier?" he asked her tentatively.

Shanan looked at him and frowned slightly, she knew he'd had more to say and didn't want to say it in front of the guys. "Yes."

He collected his thoughts for a moment before speaking. "I can't even begin to tell you all of the insane scenarios that had gone through my head earlier. Of course, the thought that you'd been somehow taken or injured or even… killed, crossed my mind. But I also worried that… that you'd just left me," he said shakily. "I kept trying to think of any valid reason for you to take off in the middle of the night while I slept, and not tell me where you were going or at least leave me a note, but I couldn't think of any that didn't absolutely break me," he said as tears filled his eyes.

Shanan sat up and looked at him apologetically. "You thought I was dead? Or that… I left you?" she asked him softly as tears formed in her eyes. She scooted closer to him and put her hand on his cheek and forced him to look at her and as he did the tears that had been sitting there fell from his eyes. "Kakashi, my love, I…" she shook her head at him, "I will never…" her whole face started shaking. "I will never stop wanting to be with you. Ever," she whispered.

Kakashi sat up and looked at her as he squeezed her hand tight.

"I know…" Tears were now streaming down his face. "I know it's hard. I know you feel like you have two people fighting for control inside of you. And I'm sorry you're dealing with that." He kept trying to wipe tears away. But new ones wouldn't stop falling in their place. "I'm trying so hard to be understanding because our lives together meant everything to me. I don't wanna lose that, or what we have now. I know that… both versions of you love me, even if one version also loves someone else too. I'm just… I'm trying really hard."

Shanan had a steady stream of tears as she looked down at Kakashi's hand gripping hers so tight. She understood all of what Kakashi was trying to say to her. She understood his fears, and they weren't unfounded, but she never once considered changing her mind. She never once thought about not being with him and she hated that he worried that she would.

She and Shikamaru kept trying to pull away from one another, but then they'd end up giving in to their love when their longing overwhelmed them.

All she wanted to do was offer whatever reassurance she could to Kakashi, but she was suddenly feeling like maybe he shouldn't be so understanding or forgiving and that maybe he should be less patient with her.

She couldn't stand the thought of him feeling so insecure because of her. How could she save someone and then hurt them so deeply? All she could do was think about how undeserving of his love she had become as her body went numb and her Sharingan activated on its own.

Her inadequacy consumed her as she swallowed hard and then slowly looked up at Kakashi. She had every intention of telling him that all she wanted was for him to be happy and that if he ever decided that he couldn't do it anymore, then she would understand. She would still always try her hardest to do better and earn his love back, even if she never did.

Kakashi lifted her hand to his lips and kissed it before looking into her eyes again.

And then everything went black.

(Music starts) We see Shanan and Kakashi as babies being introduced to each other while their mothers hold them. Fade.

("We were strangers") We see Kakashi at eighteen in his ANBU gear kneeling in front of Shanan as a child. She looks calm as she stares at his face. Fade.

("Now here we are") We see them on the training field about five feet apart from each other as we circle around them, just before she performs the Kaitei technique. Fade.

("No one told me") We see Shanan walk into the bar, almost in slow motion, as Kakashi swallows hard. He'd never seen anyone so beautiful. Fade.

("When I lost hope") We see Kakashi as a small child standing over his dad as seventeen year old Shanan kneels next to him and cries with him. Fade.

("And life is a road") We see toddler Shanan kissing toddler Kakashi's scraped hand.

("Love is a river") We see pre-teen Kakashi standing patiently as Shanan walks out of her room and hugs him. He hugs her back, because he's loved her always. Fade.

("I'll be there") He wakes up in the forest and runs to her.

("I'll be there") She wakes up from the Kaitei as he comforts her.

("In the end") We see Shanan and Kakashi standing outside of their home in the real world, holding hands as they look at each other. Fade.

("We were strangers") We see Shanan in her towel looking at him.

("Never dreaming") We see Kakashi in his boxers looking at her.

("Now here we stand") We see Kakashi holding onto Shanan's wrist as he moves behind her and wraps his arm around her waist pulling her close. Fade.

("And life is a road") We see seventeen year old Kakashi proposing to Shanan.

("Love is a river") We see Kakashi drawing pictures of Shanan after their first time together, then sitting behind her and showing them to her. Fade.

("I'll be there") We see Obito die.

("I'll be there") We see Rin die.

("In the end") We see Shanan and Kakashi hugging as they throw the water barrier up to protect baby Naruto. Fade.

("Knew there was somebody") We see seven year old Kakashi rush to Shanan in the water.

("Like me alone") We see him put his hand on her hand in his Kurushimi.

("Now I know") We see Shanan reaching for Kakashi as she's being dragged away.

("I've been waiting") She runs to him.

("Nothings gonna") They finally kiss each other after she's just healed him.

("And life is a road") They're five years old, looking at each other.

("Love is a river") They start growing up, still looking at each other.

("Life is a road") They're adults now and they move closer and kiss each other.

("I'll be there") We see him step out from behind Guy to say hello to her.

("I'll be there") We see her throw her arms around his neck from behind at the bar.

("In the end") We see them hug after his Kurushimi and he sinks into her.

("Life is a road") We see them dancing before his proposal.

("Love is a river") We see them crying and kissing at their wedding.

("Starting out") We see Shanan pregnant.

("Life is a road") We see them holding their babies.

("Love is a river") We see Kakashi reading to her and the babies on the couch.

("In the end") We see them today, standing in front of their couch as they pull each other close and kiss one another with as much love and emotion and excitement as they ever have.

Kakashi pulled his lips away from Shanan and smiled at her as he brushed her hair out of her face.

"I didn't know you could do that," he whispered as a tear fell down his cheek.

Shanan smiled softly back at him. "I didn't either."

Kakashi put both hands on her face and pulled her back in for a kiss.

He was really thankful for Shanan's Sharingan and not just for saving him with the Kaitei. He remembered all of those memories, but watching them with her like that felt really special.
