The twins were six months old now. They could sit up on their own and had just started eating solids.

Kakashi wasn't able to be there as much as he was in the Kaitei, but he was still the same dad when he was home. He still got up with them and read to them and sang to them often and fell asleep with one or both in his arms. And Yuki had just as much hair in this world as she had had before, and he still put it up for her. He was still amazing in every way.

And when Kakashi wasn't there, Sasuke was. His bond with the twins reminded Shanan so much of how Kakashi had been with Naruto when he was a baby. He held them often and played with them and enjoyed feeding them with Shanan throughout the day. He was back to doing the occasional mission now, but he still lived with Shanan and Kakashi.

A lot of the times when Kakashi came home, Sasuke and Shanan would be asleep at opposite ends of the couch, each with a baby in their arms. And that was when he would take the twins and spend some alone time with them before waking Shanan and Sasuke up. He and Shanan would lay in bed awake and talk about their days for a while before finally falling asleep in eachothers arms, the same as they always had.

Naruto and Hinata came over for dinner at least once a week and brought their son Boruto over, who was about three months younger than the twins and it was always nice when Kakashi could be there with all of them as well. Usually the three men would sit and play with the babies so Shanan and Hinata could have a break and catch up.

Shanan hadn't been the only one recently to have a set of twins. Sakura and Lee also had a boy and a girl, Metal and Sarada. Shanan still spent time with her old teammates when they could get together as they were still two of her dearest friends.

It was early afternoon on a Saturday and Naruto had stopped by for lunch and a visit. Shanan was still in the middle of eating breakfast at the table. "Wow, Naruto! You look really handsome today!" she said as she laughed.

Both he and Sasuke rolled their eyes at her.

"Stop being weird!" he yelled as he pointed at her. "You're always embarrassing me and making me feel awkward! And what about Sasuke?"

Shanan raised an eyebrow at Naruto's outburst and looked at Sasuke. "Well, yeah, but I see him all the time. He's always handsome. I wonder if I ever had a crush on either of you when we were younger," she pondered.

"Please don't lump me in with that dork," Sasuke said in an unappreciative tone as he walked into the kitchen with a baby in tow.

Shanan laughed. "No, I'm being serious."

"Ya know, I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to say this stuff," Naruto said awkwardly as he sat down by her at the table.

"Why not? It's my mouth and I'm just genuinely wondering. I don't have any memories of my private thoughts from when I was a kid," she said as she stuck her tongue out at Naruto.

Sasuke sat down on the other side of Shanan with Yuki and a small bowl of food.

"You're gonna get your jacket so messy," Shanan told him.

"Well here, take her for a second," he said as he shoved the baby into Shanan's arms and took his jacket off.

"Hi, my sweetie," she said as she kissed Yuki all over her face and tickled her until she giggled.

Sasuke hung his jacket on the back of his chair and then took her back and started making airplane noises as he fed her.

"Anyway, stop embarrassing me. I'm an adult now. I'm- I'm married!" Naruto said to Shanan as he laughed and jumped up to open the fridge.

Shanan laughed at him, exasperated. "I was just giving you a compliment, kiddo."

"Good. So you don't have a crush on me," he said as he sat back down with some leftovers.

"No..." Shanan thought about it for a moment. "But did I ever have a crush on anyone else?"

Naruto kept himself from glancing over at Sasuke. "Uh… I dunno. I think. Or no. Why do you wanna know anyway?"

Shanan sighed as she rubbed the back of her neck. It was kind of hard to explain how maddening it could be to not know even the most random details about your own life. "I dunno. I was just wondering. I just wonder about a lot of random things, I just don't always say anything or ask."

"I guess that makes sense," Naruto said, understanding. "I wish I could help, but I can't think of anyone. What about you, Sasuke?"

Sasuke looked up at him quickly and sighed before going back to feeding Yuki. "If you're worried about whether or not there's someone walking around out there that you used to have an unrequited crush on, then don't. You didn't. We all pretty much kept to ourselves and didn't care too much for outsiders since we were so outcast being orphans and all. It's why we kept the no-handed jutsu to ourselves," he said plainly.

"Oh. I do kind of remember when we talked about that and decided not to share it because nobody else would share it with us."

Naruto chuckled a bit at the memory. "Right. Because nobody ever shared anything with us."

"Exactly," Sasuke said. "We all pretty much just had each other. The kid with the nine-tailed beast sealed inside of him by his father, the fourth Hokage. The boy whose own brother massacred his entire clan and went rogue. And the girl with no memory, whose house shattered into tiny pieces and whose parents were killed by assassins that were never located. It was just the three of us for a long time." He smiled at Yuki as he scooped up some of the food she'd spit out and tried to get her to eat it again.

Shanan smiled at his reassurance. "I guess I didn't need anyone else."

"Well, you did. Actually. We all did."

Before either of them could ask, Sasuke continued.

"Kakashi Sensei has always had a knack for showing up at just the right time, and he taught all of us quite a bit. Most of all… me."

Shanan and Naruto both looked at him curiously.

"You?" Naruto asked him. "You mean Chidori?"

Sasuke looked over at Naruto a bit wryly.

"Oh."

"Oh? Oh, what? What'd he teach you?!" Shanan asked them.

"Just that life is interesting, but that that isn't necessarily a bad thing. You just have to make the most of it and be happy."

Shanan gasped a little as she remembered similar words. "He said that to you?"

He glanced over at her quickly. "No, it's just something I learned from being around him."

"Well… I think that was very helpful, Sasuke. And yeah, a good way to look at things," Naruto said, cutting through the awkwardness. He could sense that Shanan was on the verge of tears for some reason. "I'm glad we still have each other." He put a hand on Shanan's shoulder and smiled. "And I'm glad that my kids will also have you guys."

Shanan smiled softly at him. "I'm glad mine have you guys too."

"I love you guys!" Naruto said as he knelt between Shanan and Sasuke and pulled them in to hug him.

Sasuke dropped the spoon he was holding and Yuki took the opportunity to grab his hair. "Alright, get off me, loser," Sasuke said as he broke free and picked the spoon up off the floor and handed it to Naruto. "Go on."

"Yeah, yeah." Naruto snatched the spoon out of Sasuke's hand and stood up to get him a new one.

Shanan stared down at the table as she tried to remember the exact thing that Kakashi had once told her in the hospital, though she was sure it was very similar to what Sasuke had just said.
