It was Shanan and Kakashi's ten year wedding anniversary. At least in the real world. And Shanan wanted to do something special for Kakashi, but he wasn't able to get any time away from his Hokage duties for them to be able to take a trip. So Shanan asked Sasuke if he would stay and watch the kids for her while she took Kakashi his food and ate with him.

He helped her make something special for Kakashi and even packed it all up for her while she dressed up a little and made sure she knew that there was no rush for her to be home. He knew that she missed Kakashi terribly, even more so that he wasn't able to fill in for him like he used to.

Once she was ready, she came out and Sasuke suddenly felt like an idiot for being so helpful. He glanced up at her quickly from his book and couldn't help but think that she was really beautiful. But it wasn't for him and he had to pretend like he wasn't completely in love with her. It was easy to do sometimes, but times like this, his longing overwhelmed him and it was hard again. What would Naruto say to her? That wasn't helpful, Naruto was an idiot and would fawn over her and she would still know that it was completely platonic. He just wouldn't say anything or look at her again.

"Sasuke?" Shanan said weakly.

He pretended to be busy with his book, so he didn't look up. "Uh, yeah?"

Shanan took a deep breath as she played with her hair shyly. "Is this ok? It's too much, isn't it? I shouldn't bother him, right?" she suddenly felt ridiculous.

Sasuke closed his eyes and took a deep breath to compose himself as he closed his book and stood up. He walked over to Shanan and folded his arms as he sat on the arm of the couch and gently looked her up and down, taking her in, but trying not to look like he was. "Trust me, Shanan, you won't be bothering him," he said softly.

"Are you sure?" she asked doubtfully, still tugging at her hair.

He looked up at her more affectionately than he'd meant to. "Well, you wouldn't be bothering me," he said softer than he had planned. He really hadn't wanted to look at her.

Shanan decided to take his word for it and breathed a sigh of relief. "Ok... I hope he's not too busy," she said as she grabbed the food basket and headed for the door. "Thank you, Sasuke." She smiled softly at him. "I'll see you in a bit."

What Sasuke had really wanted to tell her, was that even if Kakashi were busy, he'd stop being busy for her. But that would've been too forward of him and he'd already said too much to her. However, he knew that he wouldn't see her again until she came home with Kakashi.

Once Shanan arrived, the place was completely empty. Which she had expected. Kakashi mostly stayed late to catch up on paperwork and team assignments since he never had time for them during the day. Shikamaru had just walked out of Kakashi's office right as the door came into her view.

As soon as he saw her, he stopped and blushed a little. "Here to see your husband on your anniversary, huh?" he asked with a smirk as he started walking again.

Shanan smiled as she tucked her hair behind her ear. "Do you think it's ok if I'm here?"

He laughed gently at her. "You know what, nobody else is here. I can take off," he said as he walked closer to her. "He'll be happy to see you, Shanan," he assured her as he patted her shoulder and walked away with his hands in his pockets.

She still felt really silly. She had never shown up to Kakashi's office like this, but she steadied herself and forced herself to move anyway. Once she reached the door, she stood outside for a minute and took some deep breaths before slowly turning the knob. Once inside, she stared at him as he worked. She couldn't help but admire how handsome he still was, even with his mask on and even though he looked exhausted and ready to be home. He was still perfect.

He didn't look up from his stack of papers right away. He was resting his head on one hand and writing something with the other. Shanan stood against the door for a moment and he looked up and back down and then quickly back up again, once he'd registered that it was her, and then pulled his mask down immediately and smiled.

Shanan reached behind her and locked the door before walking towards him. She still felt kind of shy, but she didn't know why.

But he was really happy to see her. He stood up and walked around his desk and leaned against it and folded his arms as she walked up to him and set the basket down.

Once she straightened, she brushed her skirt nervously and smiled up at him.

Her nervousness made him chuckle softly as he reached out and grabbed her gently by the waist and pulled her to stand in between his legs.

She wrapped her arms around his neck as he pulled her close to him. "Are you surprised to see me?" she whispered.

He nodded slowly as he brushed his fingers along her cheek. He really was surprised that she'd come to visit him so late and suddenly wondered why she never had before or why he'd never thought of asking her to. And he was so enamored by her that he couldn't take his eyes off of her as he tucked her hair behind her ear and cupped the side of her face in his hand. His heart was beating so fast. He'd never seen her in this dress. They hadn't been able to dress up much lately, but she was still always so perfect to him.

"Happy anniversary," she whispered again before he pulled her in to kiss her deeply. They'd both been so busy lately, now that she was doing missions again, it had been a month or so since they'd even been together. So he wanted her to know how much he still loved her and wanted her. He suddenly felt sixteen again, like he was about to finally get to show her how much he'd always loved her and how devoted he would always be to her.

Shanan had been worried that he would choose work over her, but as soon as he saw her, he forgot all about any work that he had to do. She hadn't felt this tingly in awhile, but she did now. He could still give her butterflies just by touching her and she always felt safest in his arms.

He stood up slowly while still holding her close and kissing her. Once he was standing, he reached down and picked her up, and she wrapped her legs around him. He stood there holding her up and kissing her for several minutes before slowly making his way to the pair of couches and sitting down with her on top of him. He ran his hands up and down her thighs as they continued kissing. It wasn't how he expected to end his night, but he was really happy that she was there and that they were finally going to have a chance to be intimate.

Shanan pulled her lips away and looked deep into his eyes as she caressed his cheek. She had missed him very much these last few months. If she was being honest with herself, she'd missed him for several years. She started feeling really overwhelmed and emotional as she stared at him. All she could do was hug him tight around his neck as she started sobbing quietly.

Kakashi gently pulled her into him. "I'm sorry, my love. I should've come home early tonight," he said as he held her tight.

Shanan leaned back and looked at him again while wiping her face. "I don't..." Her whole face was shaking as she tried to steady her voice.

Kakashi helped her wipe her tears as he looked at her apologetically.

"I don't want you to be Hokage anymore." She looked down as more tears fell onto Kakashi. She had wanted to say those words for so long and she hadn't expected them to come out tonight, of all nights. She had always just tried to be supportive of him and didn't think it was her place to say anything about it.

Kakashi took her face into his hands and pulled her up to look at him as he nodded, years of regret in his eyes. "Alright," he whispered. "I'll tell the elders tomorrow. Come here, my love." He pulled her against him and held her close until she calmed down.

"I'm sorry. I didn't come here to be sad. I really just wanted to be with you," she said through her tears.

"Shanan, I never even wanted to be Hokage. I just didn't know how to say no at the time and…" He took a deep breath and sighed. "I should've quit a long time ago," he said softly. "I've missed you so much. And I'm done missing out on things at home. I'm glad you're here, I've really needed you," he said as his voice suddenly broke and a couple of tears ran down his face out of nowhere. He reached up to cover his face with his arm and Shanan gently pulled his arm down and wiped his face.

"I've needed you to need me," she whispered shakily as she leaned her head against his, tears still streaming down her face.

"I will never stop needing you, my love," he assured her as he put his fingers in her hair and pulled her in for another passionate kiss.

They spent the rest of the night showing eachother how much they loved and needed one another. It was almost light by the time they finally got home. And Kakashi didn't go back in as Hokage after that. They knew they'd never get the time they'd lost back, but they wanted to try.
