AN- I Will Follow You Into the Dark by Jasmine Thompson (Specifically during the Shi no Tenshi.)
There was a knock on the door. It had only been a couple of days since Kakashi and Sasuke had left for their mission, but Shanan was already fully healed.
As she opened the door both Naruto and Sasuke were standing there. She was a bit surprised to see Sasuke before she'd seen Kakashi.
"Why are you guys here?" she asked them. "Naruto, if you sent my husband off on another mission without me or before he could even come and see his family, then I'm going to actually kill you," she joked.
Neither of them laughed.
"Shanan..." Naruto said gently as Sasuke closed his eyes and let a few tears fall.
She was suddenly very alarmed. "What's going on? Where's Kakashi?" She looked frantically over to Sasuke. "Sasuke..."
Sasuke opened his eyes and looked at Shanan and immediately caught her as she crumpled, caught in his reverse Omoidasu.
"Did you have to do that?" Naruto asked, exasperated as he pushed the door open all the way so that Sasuke could carry her to the couch.
Sasuke sat her down and pulled her in close. He knew what she was seeing. The tears were already streaming steadily down her cheeks. "I couldn't tell her," he said through his own tears. His whole face was shaking and he knew he only had a few minutes to calm down before the genjutsu was finished.
Naruto knelt in front of her and held her hand as he watched her sadly. "We have to take care of her," he said as tears ran down his face now too. "I hate that she has to go through this. I should've gone with you two." He squeezed her hand as he waited for her to wake up, chin quivering.
Sasuke continued to hold her and cry. He wished it had been him and not Kakashi. He hated the thought of Shanan being so heartbroken and he hoped he'd made a good enough Shi no Tenshi for the both of them.
Shanan opened her eyes and all she could see was darkness. She blinked a few times to make sure that they were actually open. As she did that, she saw a blurry figure about twenty feet away from her and she knew that it was Kakashi.
After a few seconds, her eyes adjusted to being in this body and he came into focus as he walked slowly towards her. He was smiling so big at her and looked more beautiful than she had ever remembered.
The room around them seemed as though it was getting brighter by the second.
Once he reached her, he took her hands into his and laced his fingers with hers. It almost seemed as though there was light coming from every part of them that touched, much like it had always felt when they touched.
She could feel the tears running down her face as she stared into his perfect eyes.
He gently caressed her cheek and gave her forehead a long, soft kiss. Then he gently kissed her nose. And then, he rested his forehead on hers as he looked wistfully into her eyes, before kissing her lips while tears fell silently down his cheeks.
The room continued to get brighter as he looked at her face again and wiped her tears away.
"Don't be sad, my love," he said smiling, as he moved her hair and kissed her head softly again. "I got to live the most amazing life and you were the best and most important thing that ever happened to me."
Tears were streaming down both of their faces and the room continued to grow brighter still.
"You showed me love. You showed me light. You pulled me out of the darkness." He smiled softly at her. "Thank you... So much."
Shanan was glad that Sasuke hadn't made her cry too much, but inside she was completely falling apart.
"For what," she heard herself ask him quietly and shakily.
"For saving me, my love," he said at almost a whisper as he looked deep into her eyes. He pulled her even closer to him and looked at her knowing that this was the last time. And then he leaned down to kiss her lips once more. Every ounce of love he had ever felt, every moment of joy he had ever experienced, every bit of who Kakashi was went into that final kiss.
"Shanan, my love, I need you to know that, no matter where I go, I will take you with me," his voice was starting to shake now, "and I will love you forever," he said as his voice completely broke. He pulled her into his chest and held her as his warm tears fell from his face and onto hers. They both shook as they held on for dear life.
The room was blindingly white now.
They stood in a silent embrace for as long as they could. Shanan was squeezing him so tight, sobbing into his chest now as he rested his face on the top of her head. Shanan could feel him breathing her in as much as he could.
"I have to go, now, my love," he said through a stream of tears as he kissed the top of her head one last time.
Shanan looked up and realized that he had been the one that was lighting up the room and she refused to take her eyes off of him. She reached up and touched his face one last time. "I'll never stop loving you," she assured him, even though she could no longer breathe. She watched his smiling face fade away until he was completely gone and she was all alone in the dark.
Shanan blinked and still seemed to have the same tears in her eyes. She was in Sasuke's arms and Naruto was in front of her squeezing her hand, tears running down his face. Shanan started breathing heavily as she tried to sit up. Kakashi kept her calm. He always had. He was gone...
Naruto put his hand on her face. "Shanan, you're hyperventilating. Calm down. Look at me. Me and Sasuke are right here, ok? We're here for you," he tried to fight back his tears as he tried to help her breathe, but he couldn't help but think about how sad she was going to be for a long time. "We're not going anywhere, I promise. I'm so sorry," he said as he lowered his head and started to sob. "I'm Hokage, I should've sent more people. I'm so sorry I let you down…" he said softly through his tears.
Sasuke still had a steady stream of tears running down his face.
Shanan was no longer hyperventilating, but she still didn't have any words as she stared off blankly. She was still very much in shock.
Sasuke squeezed her tighter so that she'd know he was there too. He really wished it'd been him.
AN- I wasn't going to put Kakashi back into the darkness, but this song was perfect because Shanan would follow him anywhere, she already has...
