Since Friday had been a rainy day, Erin had been determined to get out on the lake as soon as possible on Saturday, knowing that David loved the water, even if it did give her a sense of unease. She had never truly liked open water, especially when it was a place where she couldn't see the bottom, as was the case with his lake. Still, it had been nice to be out on the boat, an umbrella hastily turned into a parasol to protect her skin from the brightness of the sun, with the love of her life.

And now, it was their evening together, and she was curled up on the floor in front of the fireplace, enjoying the crackle of the wood burning as she tried to not think about how cold it had become in such a short time. She knew that November was good at swiftly changing temperatures, which she hadn't accounted for while packing, which meant she was without a good thick sweater when she needed one most. "Thank God I left some alcohol up here, because I made us boozy hot chocolate, since you have been shivering since we came in off the lake."

"Thank you, darling," she said as she took the mugs from his hands, allowing him to sit down next to her before he took hold of the mug closest to him. As she sipped at the delicious concoction, Erin slid closer to him, resting her head against his shoulder as she thought about what to say to him. He had haltingly told her what he had walked into at Carolyn's apartment that Thursday evening, and she had wept with him when he told her that Carolyn had taken the decision from his hands, having taken the fatal dosage of medication before he arrived so that he would be forced to stay with her through the end of her life. A tiny part of her soul raged at the fact that the woman, who had been the mother of David's first child, would hurt him in that manner, but she also knew that it had been a kindness as well, since it meant that David wouldn't have to decide whether or not to administer that dosage to her. It had still hurt his soul so much, though, to sit with her as she died, unable to phone the paramedics and have them arrive in time to help her.

"What are you thinking about?" he murmured as he scooted closer to her side, and she rested her head on his chest as she took a deep breath.

"I was thinking that I wish things had happened differently. I know that you'll want to go to the funeral, and I know that I should probably stay away, but I want to be there to support you."

"You can be there, Erin. You're my wife in every way but legal, after all."

"And it wouldn't be an imposition?"

He shook his head before turning it so that he could kiss her temple softly. "No, I don't think that I would handle it well enough if you were to stay away on that day, Erin." They let out a long breath in unison before Erin moved her body even closer to his, soaking in the warmth of both the fire and his body as they finished up their hot chocolate. While there wasn't enough alcohol to get her drunk, she did have a nice buzz by the time she was finished, and she leaned forward to set her mug on the hearthstone before taking his mug and setting it aside as well so that she could clamber into his lap and straddle his waist, looking deep into his eyes. "I am so glad that you know exactly what I want when I want it, Erin," he murmured lowly as he leaned in and kissed her deeply. "But do you really want to make love here? Our backs might have something to say about that in the morning, after all."

"But the fire is so luscious, David. I want to feel the flames lap at my skin even as your tongue does much the same as well. And we don't have to sleep down here, we can recuperate in that huge tub you have in the master bath before curling up together in bed and sleeping in tomorrow."

"Have I told you lately just how much I love your brain, Erin," he murmured before kissing her deeply, his hands slipping between their bodies so that he could unbutton her blouse, slipping it off her shoulders before making quick work of the clasp of her bra and letting it join her blouse on the floor. "Almost as much as I love these magnificent breasts of yours."

She chuckled a little as he cupped her breasts, his blunt thumbs sweeping across her nipples, causing them to tighten beneath the touch as that heady feeling of desire swept through her system, desire pooling in her core as she ground her hips against his groin, feeling his erection straining against his pants. "So you love my breasts more than you love my brain?" she teased as she leaned back in order to thrust her chest upwards a little.

"When they're offered up so deliciously like this, then yes. But I love your heart more than anything else about you. Because your heart loves me and our children so well." She murmured in pleasure before letting out a little gasp as David leaned in and placed a series of soft kisses along the top of her breasts before sliding his lips downwards to draw one taut nipple between them, suckling gently even as he used the tip of his tongue to tease and lave at very tip of her nipple, driving her to distraction. "Does that feel good?"

"Yes," she managed to groan out as she strained to get closer to his mouth. She wanted to feel engulfed by him and he seemed to understand her desperate want, as he gently pushed her back onto the floor, undoing the fly of her jeans and tugging them down her legs as he began to kiss a warm path down to her core. It was so easy to give herself over to the pleasure that he was bringing, and she cooed and sighed as she allowed him to tug her jeans off her body, smiling as she felt him tug off his own clothes before starting to eat her out. Her orgasm was shatteringly quick and she moaned and wriggled against him as he slipped up her body before fluidly entering her, ramping her body up to another quick orgasm and then another before he finally came.

"How am I supposed to move after that?" he panted in her ear, and she shrugged a little as she ran her hands up and down his strong back, almost able to reach his ass. "Though you are putting in a very strong case for just staying here for the rest of the night."

"If we were ten years younger, maybe we could. But I suppose that we should get up and head to the bathroom before our muscles get too stiff and make that an impossibility. We can leave our clothes here, though, since I'll just toss them in with the laundry bag before we leave."

David nodded as he rose to his feet and then helped her to stand up, taking hold of her hand and bringing her upstairs to the bathroom. Erin sighed a little as she followed after him, hoping that she had made the right decision in coming here that weekend, and that she had somehow helped to ease his aching heart.
