Erin groaned a little as she felt the bed dip beneath David's weight. Sitting up a little, she looked over at her clock to see that it was one in the morning, and she frowned to know how late he had gotten in. "Go back to sleep, Erin. I didn't mean to wake you."
"You're home so late."
"We wanted to just get home, and the pilot was willing to get us here as soon as possible."
She laid back down and allowed David to pull her tightly to his chest as she snuggled in close to him. It was so easy to fall back asleep now that she was in his arms, and she smiled to breathe in his familiar scent as she drifted off. When she woke up next, Erin found herself much rested, and blinking her eyes open, she saw that she had turned to face her husband at some point, and she smiled as she leaned in to kiss him softly. Spreading her hand out on his chest, Erin waited for David to wake up, knowing that it might take a while, since he had gotten in so late.
Glancing over his shoulder, she saw that it was nearly nine, which meant that they were extremely late in getting up, and she let out a small gasp as she flipped onto her side and picked up her phone, groaning a little to see that David must have put it on silent when he came in. It was understandable, but now that they were running so late, she began to feel a bit panicked. Unlocking the device, she hurriedly called Helen, wanting to let her know that she would be in as soon as possible.
"Good morning, Erin. Are you enjoying your lie in?"
"I'm sorry?"
"Oh, didn't you get the text from Director Sheppard? You, along with Alpha team, have the day off, since they got back so late last night. I guess that Agent Hotchner texted him on the flight back home to get permission to take a long weekend, and made certain to include you in the deal."
"So that explains David turning off the alarms. Thank you for letting me know, Helen. I'll see you Monday morning."
"Enjoy your weekend, Erin. You deserve it."
"Thanks, I'll try." They ended their conversation and then she set the phone aside before turning back to David. "Darling, it is past time for us to get up. I have no idea what our children are up to."
An impish smile began to curve his lips upwards, which told her that he was waking up, and Erin shook her head a little as she leaned in a little to press her lips against his in a warm kiss. "Umm, you need to brush your teeth."
Letting out a somewhat fake offended gasp, Erin smacked his chest before slipping out of bed and heading for the master bathroom. "I was going to ask you to join me in the shower, but now I think that you need to make brunch for us. I'll see you in twenty minutes." As she opened the bathroom door, Erin allowed the thin straps of her nightgown to fall off her shoulders, stepping out of the pool of satin before disappearing behind the door and stepping into the shower and turning the water on.
When she finally stepped out of the shower, Erin smiled to see that David had brought in fresh clothes for her, and she quickly dried off and dressed before heading downstairs. She found her husband in the kitchen, cooking away, and she came up behind him, wrapping her arms around his waist as she rested her cheek against his back. "Jessica took care of our youngest, and brought them over to her place, since Hotch is going to spend the weekend with entirely with Jack."
"Oh?"
"Yeah. She left a note for us on the counter, if you want to read it. Is there anything that you want for brunch?"
"Those omelettes smell delicious, so I think that I'll be fine with one of them and some orange juice." Stepping away from him, she went over to the counter and picked up the hastily scrawled note, smiling at Jessica's words. "So, how did the rest of your case go? I know that you mentioned finding your former sergeant there, but then you didn't bring it up any more. I didn't want to upset you in the middle of the case, but is everything all right?"
She dragged one of the stools over to the oven so that she could sit and watch him cook, waiting to hear his response. "It was hard to see him like that, Erin. He was a good leader, he kept me safe out there, when by all rights I should have died, and to see him out on the streets like forgotten trash? I don't understand how we can treat our veterans like that. And it's not like I can offer him anything, he wouldn't accept it, he's too proud. I just…I wish that things were different or easier. But that can never be, because it's so easy to be an armchair activist and not have to really get out there and make a difference."
Erin nodded as she reached out and rubbed his back softly. "We can only do so much ourselves, but if we build a community, perhaps we can affect that change that we want to see in the world. I mean, you have enough influence in order to make that a very real possibility."
"You do have a point there," he replied as he flipped the omelettes and then turned to look at her. "I am so glad that you're in my life, Erin. You make everything that much better." Leaning in, David kissed her gently, and she smiled against his lips. "And you taste better now."
"You keep that up, David, and you'll be sleeping on the sofa for the entire weekend. Is that really something that you want?" He shook his head before kissing her once more. "Are you at least going to be able to keep in touch with him?"
"I'm going to try, but I think that he felt really embarrassed by me seeing him like that. I don't want him to feel uncomfortable."
"I understand." Erin gave him a tender look as he plated up their food, bringing it over to the island before tugging her stool next to their plates. Erin felt a slight thrill at the sensation, but knew that David wouldn't let her tip over. "And was Alex any better on this case?"
"She was. I've noticed that she has been thawing towards you a little, ever since the little incident in the bullpen with Anderson."
"Alex was kind to us at the softball game, too. I didn't say anything to her, I didn't want to burst that fragile bubble, you know?" He nodded as he poured juice for them before taking a seat on the stool next to her. "But I am truly hoping that this is the first step towards our reconciliation. And before you say it, no, I will not be telling all of you that you were right in telling me that I needed to back off and let things happen naturally. Okay?"
"I would expect nothing less from you, stellina," he replied with a chuckle before tucking into his food, and Erin followed suit, turning the discussion into something a little lighter, knowing that David would need this as he dealt with his complex feelings regarding seeing his former mentor. She would do anything to make him happy, and she hoped that this morning together would show him just how much she loved him.
