Graham Canyon

"Okay Angelica," Didi said about an hour into the trip, "its going to be a long drive to the Grand Canyon but we packed a lot of fun activities to keep you busy."

"Really?" Angelica said. She'd thought she was going to be stuck in her car seat the entire time, having to deal with her annoying baby cousin and his annoying baby questions. All Tommy ever did was whine and bug her and expect her to entertain him! But her Aunt Didi said she had some fun things for her to do and that instantly perked her up.

"Oh yes. We weren't going to make you sit back there just staring out the window! Every hour we'll give you something new to do, okay?" Didi dug through the bag she'd made up; they had a similar one for Tommy. "Now, you get your choice for your first activity: a new coloring book or a new music cassette for your tape player."

"Let me think…" she murmured to herself. The coloring book did sound fun; her mommy had gotten her new markers and she'd wondered why they'd packed them and now it made sense! She could draw all sorts of things… she was a really good artist, everyone said so. It would-

"Angelica?" Tommy asked.

"What?" she growled softly, having been startled out of her thoughts.

"Is this the Graham Canyon?"

"No, you dumb baby. This is just the road!" Angelica began to think again. The markets would be fun to play with but maybe it would be better to wait. She usually liked to color after she had a snack and-

"Angelica?" Tommy said again, once more yanking her from her thoughts.

"What?"

"When will we get to the Graham Canyon?"

"In a long time!" she told him, annoyed. She began to think-

"Angelica?" Tommy whined. "How long is a long time?"

"Aunt Didi? If I get the new tape can I listen to it over and over?"

"Oh, of course sweetie!" Didi said. "And we have a few other tapes too. But we'll save those for later."

"Then the tape, please." After a moment her aunt get the cassette all ready and Angelica happily took it.

"Angelica?" Tommy asked but she merely smirked at him and put on the headphones. "…." His mouth was moving but she couldn't hear a thing!

Giggling in delight she pressed play and was rather delighted to find that the cassette didn't just have music but also stories and funny jokes… Angelica happily listen, occasionally looking at Tommy who was clearly trying to get her attention but she didn't care, he was an annoying baby anyway!

Tommy, for his part, finally sighed and went for one of what would be several naps. It would only be half a day later, when his mommy held him as they rode on a donkey through the biggest hole he'd ever seen, that he began to smile and giggle and have fun again.
