"'Twas but a jest, noble Sir; no offence was intended." The court jester bowed low. "Pray forgive this fool."

"Off with his head!" a commanding voice demanded.

"As jokes go it certainly wasn't the best, but I hardly think decapitation is warranted." The Doctor stepped out of the shadows. "You people are far too quick with the axe. It's a wonder you've got any entertainers left, never mind servants, if you execute them willy-nilly over the slightest thing."

"What's the point of being king if I can't execute people?"

"Well, you'd have a lot more loyal subjects for a start."
