I would never let them escape easily, I promise.
Running and running, Luna knew that if she were to stop, they all stop living. Gunshots rang behind, the people are chasing them, the two against the world, God wouldn't make her escape easy huh? Running and running and she tripped, falling right in the middle of the frontlines, where two armies met. Gunshots rang and Luna couldn't get up. She looked at her foot and she noticed that she didn't trip on a branch or a hole. 20 serrated metal teeth from a beartrap laid deep inside her right foot, making her scream in pain, immobilising her.
Panicked, Luna looked into Lily's eyes and said, "You gotta leave me, go! Arghh!" but no Lily froze, she didn't move a muscle, afraid and filled with sorrow Lily hugged Luna tight, not letting go as the fight raged on. "Lily, go LEAVE ME!" Luna begged with tears of hurt flowing down her freckled cheeks as she tried to pull the scared girl off of her. The barrage of gunshots ended, and the screams and shrieks faded. Only footsteps and complaints passed through the duo's ear. It was too easy. Of course, they have beartraps.
Her foot was burning in pain, she could feel the blood rushing out, the pain, and the same question she had asked many times that night. Is this the end?
"Well I guess we have tomorrow's lunch," Brenda chortled as she kicks Luna's foot, causing her to groan in pain. "Alright get her inside,"
They were dragged by the collar inside, and straight in front of a metal shipping container inside the gym, one that Luna failed to notice during her hunt, wondering to herself. Why did that man drag her all the way there just to kill me? It seemed so illogical. "This is where we keep the meat," Brenda said as she unlocks the chained double door. "Start walking,"
Walk they did, entering the metal container at gunpoint, such a warm welcome. Brenda threw a plastic bag inside as the door closed, the lights died. Pitch black darkness. Opening the bag, Luna found a piece of rope and some rolls of cloth. Guessing it was for the wound she took it out. Groaning in pain as she tied a tourniquet around her foot to stop the bleeding. She sighed. Lily was frozen during the whole ordeal.
I fucked Luna up, she will never trust me anymore, she will leave me, like the rest of the family, the family I never knew. Why was I even born? My sole purpose in life is to be afraid, to drag my sister down with me. All I did cost Luna something, why couldn't I protect her the way she protects me? I guess she can hate me now, maybe she already did, maybe she forgave me? Who am I to kid, of course, she hates me. Look at me, I'm a kid that made her walk with an empty stomach, she gave me all, and all I did will most likely end her life.
"Lily, are you okay?" Luna asked, her face, why is she always caring?
I couldn't answer her, my lips were sealed, nothing could come out, I could only wrap myself, kissing my knees.
"Lily, are you okay?" Luna asked again, why is she always concerned about me? I'm not the one with a dozen holes down the foot, but I have to answer her.
"Yeah,"
"Come here," Luna said warmly, as she pulled me into a hug. "You know you can tell me anything right?"
"Yeah,"
"Then tell me, what do you need?" She asked with a smile, I wonder, after so many years, is she even my sister?
I always wanted to know, is it true or is it bogus. I guess living in this new world is no picnic, "Luna, are you really my sister? You told me we had eight more sisters and a brother? are they real too?"
I could see the shock on her face, I know I fucked up when you see the face. Surprisingly she wasn't angry. She was accepting, she was clearly sad but, she doesn't look that surprised, she looked defeated. Maybe I am not a part of her family, maybe I am just a stray she found and took in. Why would that matter? She raised me, she was there since I started to talk.
"Lily, I haven't told you much," Luna sighed. "Well, I haven't told you any,"
I had to listen in, it has been 4 years and I barely know about our past. What is there to fear? we're going to die anyway. "We were happy back then, I used to have this neat electric guitar, I'd play it day in and day out, they called me an ear-bleeding mess most of the time, you can name every musical instrument, I can play every single one of them," She was smiling, but then it died, her face turned depressed, and her eyes looked down. "It was perfect, I had a girlfriend named Sam, her hair was just like yours, golden and soft,"
"You should've seen her Lils," Luna continued before stopping abruptly, her face was filled with sorrow, the thought of what's life back then was too much. "Enough about me," she wiped her tears, I may not be there, but I do know it hurts when you remember something that you lost. "Our oldest sister, Lori, used to play golf, no matter how far the hole is, she would always get the cup,"
I don't like looking at her like this, she lost all hope, I expected her to shout at me, telling me how bad I am, but she didn't. "I'm sorry Luna, I've been a bad charm this whole time, you did everything you can to care for me, and all I ever got you were more trouble,"
"You don't need to apologise you know, I brought you here," Luna replied with a smile painted on her face, how could she be so happy, in times like this? Maybe she's trying not to make me panic. Even after all this, she still blames herself. "We used to have Leni to cheer us up during these times, she and that ditzy brain of hers,"
"Then you have Luan, her puns would make your ears bleed, if I'm the Queen of Ear Bleed, she's the empress," Luna continued, her lips showed happiness but her eyes screamed sadness. She missed them, them who I had never met. "I'm sorry Lily, we couldn't reach Florida,"
How could she give up? After all of the things, we went through, how dare she. "Don't you dare give up on me Lunes, we will get out of here," I said, standing mighty as both of my hands firmly gripped her wrists, shaking the panic out of her, where and how I got this courage? Doesn't matter, all we have now and forever is each other, not even the whole world can separate us.
"What have I been feeding you?" Luna asked with a soft smile stretched on her face.
That's all for today, cheers mates, have a merry peril
