Final Chapter

Everything went smoothly as they made their way through towns, and neighbourhoods, all had non inside, empty and barren. Luna fell asleep in the carriage, she had lost too much blood. The horses neighed, their hooves rattled the ground, and their path ended. There it was, they could see Huntington across the river. The bridge was collapsed, but due west was another. So they marched there. Riley woke Luna up, saying that they are within a wee moment before reaching Huntington. Luna sat up, her stump felt burning and her body felt weak.

"L-Lily?" She asked.

"We'll search for her when the rest arrives," Riley said.

And they sat there, across the concrete bridge. The day was still young and the water was so calm. They didn't want to sit there exposed, so they got inside a bakery situated right next to the bridge entrance. It was dusty. It had two floors, so they went upstairs. It was dusty. Luna struggled as she walked up, she needed to get used to walking with one leg and a stick stuck on her stump.

They waited and waited until it was evening, and they still hadn't come. The sky was red gold, and the birds were cawing as they herd through the open air. Riley and the man slept. As Luna watched the sky; she knew the night is coming, she couldn't stop worrying about her little sister. So she got up. Slowly she walked down the stairs. A gun on her belt and a knife in her small pack. She walked and walked until she sat on a hood of a car. She sat there, watching as the sun goes down the horizon. She had no more hope. She knew her sister was dead, or so she thought. Taking the gun out, she stared into the barrel, just a little push and the nightmare is over, her mind said. No, she fought back.

"My sister died painfully, to those things. I can't die like this," She said.

She jumped off the hood and walked to the middle of the bridge. She could hear those creatures rumbling through the forest, and the ruins. So she yelled out, "Come 'ere! Come get me!" Taking the magazine out of her gun, she counted her bullets, 8. Looking into her pack she had 18 bullets and looking at her knife, she clenched it. And she yelled again. The screams. She saw one race, those ugly cunts. She aimed her gun, and she shot it dead with one bullet. She saw another and she killed it too, and another and another.

Riley woke up, she heard the gunshots, she sat there crouched with her rifle in hand. She saw Luna, she wanted to go save her, but the man stopped her, he said that they could only cover her from there. So they sniped. Shooting some of the things dead.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!" The four could hear shots ringing from their rendezvous, Lily could see the black birds caw as they left the place afraid, Patrick was afraid that this might be their end, Mick was holding the Kaiser and Kaiser was trying to run.

Lily walked past them and she saw the gun flashes from the bridge, she saw the person holding the gun, and she saw what that person was shooting at. "Luna," she said before sprinting towards the flashes. Patrick tried to chase her down, but he was too old and rickety, Mick couldn't follow her, as he was stuck with chasing Kaiser who managed to get loose.

"LUNA!" Lily shouted, tears running down her eyes, as she cocked her gun. "LUNA!" Lily, shouted as her feet ran down the bridge. Lily saw her. Her eyes were deep in anger, and sadness, her teeth were clenched together, she was angry. One of the creatures lunged at Luna, making her fall to the ground, throwing her gun off the bridge. Lily saw it. Aiming for the head, she tried to shoot, but her gun was jammed. "Fuck!"

And the creature died. A knife stuck beside its head, Lily saw Luna, her face covered in blood, and her hand deep inside the thing's skull. "FUCK YOU! THIS IS FOR MY FAMILY!" She stabbed it, "THIS IS FOR SAM!"She ripped its lower jaw off, "THIS IS FOR... Lily?" Luna looked up, with the knife in her hand. She saw Lily, and Lily saw her.

"Lily! Oh God!" She jumped, hugging the kid tight in her arms. She knew the creatures were coming, she could hear the shots ringing from Riley's rifles.

"Luna, c'mon we-we need to hide first!" Lily said as she pulled Luna to the side, her gun still jammed. Luna saw it, Luna knew it. So she pulled it off of Lily's grasp, hitting it a few times on her prosthetic leg she gave it back to Lily.

"Lily," Luna's mind said to herself before she got up and lunged on one of the creatures, her stump felt as if it was on fire, her body felt weaker than ever, but she needed to. "Shoot it!" Luna yelled as she pulled the thing down, locking its head on the tarmac. And Lily shot it. As they fight and fight, Luna was stabbed by one of them, she didn't yelp, she didn't call out to Lily. She placed her hand on the open wound, and she continued, she wanted to die then, now she needed to see the night through.

Lily's bullets were running low and her body was too sore. The screams had faded, and the bodies piled. Luna sat with her back on a busted car and her face looking at the horizon, she lost too much blood. The hour was wee, the sun was rising and the two siblings were there to watch it rise. Lily rested her head on Luna's shoulder, she missed her, though it wasn't long, it felt like an eternity.

"That was fun," Luna coughed. Her face was turning pale.

"Shit," Lily panicked, she saw how fast the blood was gushing out. She pushed her tiny hands, trying to put pressure on the open wound. "Stay with me Lunes, c'mon stay with me!" She cried out.

Patrick finally came, he had his revolver out, Mick was panting he had his sweater off, Kaiser was nowhere to be seen, the Man was trying to find the aid kit, and Riley came too. They were angry, sad, happy, they were abstract.

"It's okay Lils,"

"No it's not," Lily yelled as she wrapped Luna's wounds using her jacket. "Hang on Lunes, hang on,"

"Goodbye,"

...

6 Months Later...

"Hey Lily, how's the station going?" Patrick asked Lily, who came from the cafeteria with two mugs filled with milk coffee.

"So far so good, any news on the sign?"

"Yeah, Mick finally got the neons lit up," Patrick said.

"Nice,"

Lily walked, she saw the place lively, there were people rebuilding the church, and there were people welcoming the traders, there was everyone, people from all walks of life, all colour of skin. She smiled. Is this what the world was before?

Entering the commissary, she could hear Dr. Death Defying say those iconic words, "The future is bulletproof," She pulled the air room door. "the aftermath is secondary," She steps inside. "It's time to do it now and do it loud," She took her flip flops off. "Killjoys make some noise!" She placed the coffee on the table.

"Thanks sis," Luna said as she sips the coffee.

"Next time, you do the coffee runs," Lily joked as she lands a soft punch on Luna's thigh.

"Asshole," Luna laughed.

"I learnt from the best,"

"Welcome to Nowhere, we provide security and help to those who need us, Dredgers Key, Florida. Nowhere is safe, we're your host, Lily and Luna Loud," The two said in unison as the song ended. "Stay tuned,"
