A/N: Since so many of you loved 'Melting the ice around her heart', I decided to do another Bella/Edward 1918 love story but this one will be shorter, like my last story, updates will be scattered. (Will be in Edward's POV) Two-shot.
Disclaimer: I know some people have already done something like this before, but I'm NOT plagiarizing anyone's works and I'm sorry if it seems like I am but I am not.
Summary: Edward Masen is quickly losing his fight against the Spanish Influenza when Isabella Swan, a fellow patient of the illness, moves into his room; he knows that he can't let her die. Even in the midst of death, people can still fall in love, no matter how much time they have left.
Will both of them convince the other to fight this so they can stay with their soulmate?
I awaken to the sunlight streaming through the dirty windows. I open my eyes and see Bella is still asleep, her hair is spilling over her shoulders and onto her pillow, rings underneath her pale face, her chest moving up and down weakly with each breath she takes. I breathe a sigh of relief: she's still alive, and our hands are still joined together.
"Good morning, Mr Masen." I hear her voice say with a smile on her face.
"Good morning, Mrs Masen." I reply, shooting her the same smile she gives me.
Bella yawns cutely. "Did you sleep okay?" I ask her, Bella looks at me with her brown eyes. "I slept as well as I could in this place." I sigh: I want to take all her pain away from her and make her happy and healthy but I can't. Bella looks at me: her face even more pale than before. She's quickly deteriorating.
"Bella, my love? Are you okay?" I ask, worried for my wife. Bella looks at me before holding out her hand for me, I clasp her hand and watch in horror as she vomits up bright red, sticky blood.
Oh no. My mind shouts at me. The door bangs open and Dr. Cullen and some other nurses all crowd us.
"I want these two in room D, room D!" Dr. Cullen shouts, his voice fading as I feel myself about to pass out.
"Room D is reserved for second stage patients!" One nurse argues back.
"I don't care, these two in room D now!" Dr. Cullen orders, his voice cutting through the room. I feel people lifting me up, my hand falling out of Bella's.
"Bella? Bella!" I call weakly, my hand trying to find hers again: I want to feel her warm hand in mine again.
"Edward!" She shouts as loud as she can. It sounds like she's also trying to find my hand.
"Don't release their hands, it's the only thing that's keeping them from keeping them both alive." Dr. Cullen barks. Is that true: by holding each other's hands are me and Bella keeping each other alive?
I feel Bella's hand in mine again. We both sigh in relief as we feel each other's hands.
"Edward," my wife whimpers. "don't leave me, don't let me die." I squeeze her hand with the little strength I have left.
"Don't worry love, I won't let you die, you won't die. I love you." I tell her sternly, the voice father used when he was upset with me or mother, though he was hardly upset with mother, as darkness falls around me.
"Edward?" A soft voice comes, ending the silence around me. It's Dr. Cullen.
My eyes open and I see Dr. Cullen hovering over me, his golden eyes slightly darker than earlier.
I notice both my hands are empty: where's Bella?
"Bella?!" I say weakly. I don't hear her. "Bella!" I shout as loud as I can, which isn't all that loud.
"Edward, Edward, calm down." Dr. Cullen soothes me.
"Where's Bella? Tell me where my wife is!" I demand of the doctor who gives me a slight smile.
"Bella is in the other room, she's safe but neither of you have a lot of time left, but there is a cure but I need to know: do you want it?"
Do I want this mysterious cure my doctor is talking about?
