-Prologue-

James Kalibach was an engineer working on the dimensional branches project for UNION. He was a young American man, barely past his late twenties. He had joined the Dimensional war years ago. He had sandy blonde hair cut short in a buzz cut. He had pale skin from working indoors for most of his life, barely ever going outside. His green eyes were the color of fresh-cut spring grass and were rather bright for the type of jobs he performed.

He was five foot eleven and walked slightly slumped forward on habit, as he was almost always bent over, sitting or leaning somewhere or other. He wore a white lab coat with white lab pants, a specialized pant that repelled most liquids and substances.

He stood in a large hangar that had been repurposed into a lab for him. Large box-like machines lay in neat rows on the right side of the hangar, easily ten or more feet tall and wide. Wires of all colors, shapes, and sizes ran like snakes across the floor, connecting the various machines to other ones. To his left were cubicles where various researchers typed away at computers and sat at tables to look over projects.

He was smack dead in the middle, where a large area was cleared out for him. He stood in front of a large metal oval with wires on each side, spanning the whole twelve feet of height and seven feet of width to it. The inside of it was empty air that one could look and step through without any worry. James held a remote in his hand. It was about the size of a small paperback novel, with several different colored buttons.

Pressing the large green button on the top center of the remote, James looked expectantly at the metal oval frame. It hummed and began shaking, however, it was bolted securely into the floor so it would not topple or break. Then, like ripples in still water from a raindrop, blue energy began to form in the middle and quickly spread out to the sides, only for it to be contained and forcibly kept in place.

"I DID IT! THE EXTERNAL DIMENSION" James called out in Korean, as he was in a Korean branch of UNION. He knew ten languages as his Job required him to talk with many people in many countries.

However, before he could inform anyone any further, a small pale arm reached through the portal and firmly grabbed hold of his lab coat. He tried to remove the hand after getting over the shock, but it held on with monstrous strength. Then it jerked and pulled him through, his scream muffled and then silenced. Shortly after, the same hand grabbed the edge of the portal frame and crushed the metal then tore it apart before retreating back through before the energy released with a boom that shook the hangar and then closed.

James had not prepared for what waited for him on the other side of the portal. It was a lab-like room with its walls a sterile white. In the middle of it was a raised bed, like the one you would see at a doctor's office, however, this one had thick metal clasps for the neck, ankles, and wrists of a human. It was lit by a glowing white orb that hovered on the ceiling.

His kidnappers were quite ironically, children. At least that was the form they took. They both stood about four foot eight with silver hair and pale skin. One of them had short cropped hair that barely reached his or her face, he could not tell the sex of either of them. The other had long hair that flowed to their back. They each wore doctor's gowns, outfits, and surgical masks. Both of them had blue eyeliner and eye shadow that reached past the edges of their eyes sharply. They were rather skinny, definitely not muscular or fat.

James felt an unseen force pick him up off of the floor and float him to the bed which was clearly used for operating and other not-so-savory acts of torture. The short-haired child had a cruel smile on their face as they watched James float to the bed and the clasps strap around his neck, arms, and legs. The longer-haired one had a bored expression like they had done this many times before and just wanted to get over it.

"You enjoy this far more than me Ash, how about you do the honors?" The long-haired child said with a distinctly feminine voice as the bed lowered to the proper height for them to operate on the man they had kidnapped.

"Of course Dust, I'm going to enjoy turning this man into a pawn" the short-haired child, now known as Ash said with a laugh. Next to him a surgical tray appeared. It had many things one would expect from an operating table. Scalpels, Bone saws, Grabbers, and such. However, there were also vials of strange liquids and other anomalies.

Nigh instantly the man's clothes had disappeared, and he lay naked and cold on the table.

"My dear researcher who has looked too far~" The young boy said in a disturbingly happy sing song voice as he put on his rubber gloves.

"Let me use you as an example to all those who would dig too deep~" He sung as he picked up a scalpel.

"Time to remove your heart~" The boy sang a bit louder, a tone of excitement in his voice, like a pianist about to key a tune.

"Don't be scared. Don't ever weep~" The boy sang happily as he cut open the man's chest, who screamed in pain.

The sound of ribs cracking was heard as the boy paced the scalpel down on the table and cracked open the man's chest, grinding the ribs and chest bones to dust.

The man should have blacked out from the pain, however, he was kept awake by the magical effects the children planted in him.

"My turn Ash" Dust, the girl said as she tore off the man's flap of skin that Ash cut open like a door.

Then she grabbed the man's heart and crushed it.

"You won't be needing that," She said calmly before a purple heart pulsing with energy appeared where the old one was destroyed.

"We are going to replace every bone, organ, and blood vessel in your body with something better than your inferior human body" Ash said with a smile, blood completely covering his face and upper body. It was the same with Dust. The scene was ridiculous. It looked like some fever dream of a severely disturbed man. No, it looked like a nightmare come to life. Children would not be capable of such cruelty, at least not intentionally.

Ash and Dust were not two separate entities, they were the product of a singular immortal entity that had been split many years ago, reverting their bodies back into that of children. However, the cruel entity's malice, intelligence, and magical prowess were not removed from its two split bodies. Truly, even in it's weakened forms it was a frightening being.

James was terrified and in immense pain, forced to stay awake and feel everything that happened to him.

The cutting, crushing and replacing of organs went on for hours in every part of his body. Many times Ash or Dust would create an organ or bone to place it in him, only for an argument to break out and the organ or bone to be removed and modified or recreated with a different purpose. It truly was torture. James should have died many times over however, the two kept him alive with their hellish magic.

-Many years later in a different universe-

Musutafu Japan was a sprawling city. The summer sun was shining down on the city, washing it in it's bright warmth. It was full of heroes, villains, and all sorts of folks that would fall under neither of those monikers going about their day to day life. Then seemingly without rhyme or reason a wave of blue energy pulsed out like ripples in a calm lake and dyed the city blue for a few moments as it expanded across the entire city and well into the neighboring prefectures.

Everyone who saw such a thing was either curious or scared about what happened.

On the sidewalk of a fairly empty street lined with two to three story houses and a few stores was a Japanese man in his mid forties. He wore a soft gray business suit and large sunglasses. He had light skin and short trimmed black hair.

He had a white plastic grocery bag in his right hand that he held tightly. In it was a box with a large chocolate cake he purchased from the nearby bakery. He had purchased it for his son's sixth birthday and he was walking back to his car. Then, the wave of strange blue energy washed over the city. Almost dropping the bag in shock, he felt a strange energy burn it's way into him.

Then he fell to his knees in a terrible pain. the cake and bag long forgotten as he fell to his knees and onto his side while yelling in pain. Screams from all over the city began ringing out as quirkless and men and women with quirks alike fell to the ground in pain from the energy that penetrated their very souls. Cars, trucks, trains, and various vehicles crashed as their drivers no longer had full control of their bodies.

Nigh instantly, many people died due to the energy, stray vehicles, and accidents. However, there were also many that were not touched or effected by the energy.

This went on for a good five more minutes to everyone effected before the pain seemingly just stopped.

A quirkless mid twenties thin Japanese man in a white T, blue basketball shorts, and white Nikes who had managed to live through the ordeal after being effected by the strange energy stood up from the grassy park he lay in. Power he never had before filled his body. He had the strange compunction to jump. As such he did. Easily clearing forty feet from a standing jump he cried out in excitement.

That energy had given him power. Was this a quirk? He did not know. Taking off home, he ran. Shooting forward like a bullet, he slammed into the building across from the park and shattered the glass wall from one step, sending the shattered glass everywhere. Standing in a lobby of the office building he smashed into, he was suprised to find that he wasn't hurt at all.

Just like him, many other people awoke to new power all across the city. Quirks or no quirks, many people gained this strange power.

This was unprecedented, and was only the beginning of something much much bigger.
