Sora always sunburns horribly the first day of summer.
Even Riku, who's unhealthy-pale, and Kairi, whose red hair and fair complexion demand that she bring two bottles of sunscreen to the beach, don't burn like Sora does during that legendary First Day. The worst part is, he knows it's basically a guarantee ofthat vibrant tan-of-immunity for the rest of the year, so he makes sure to get his whole body as red as a lobster.
Kairi was shocked her first summer on the islands, to see Sora streak out of his house in nothing but a pair of briefs, down to the beach. But she was somewhat calmed by the fact that Riku treated it like it was normal, as though he saw Sora next-to-naked every day. (Actually, Kairi didn't want to think about that one too hard.)
But they're all used to it now, and the only part that bothers anyone is the First Night of the First Day, when they all sleep over at Sora's house and Kairi has to listen to Riku bitch about Sora bitching about his legs/arms/back/chest/that-one-patch-on-his-nose killing him until someone (usually Riku, because Kairi hasn't quite gotten over the tighty-whities bit -- yet) gets up and puts aloe on wherever he's hurting. But Riku doesn't really mind, because it's an excuse to touch Sora, who's always looking for excuses for Riku to touch him, and Kairi doesn't feel like much of a third wheel because she'll do his arms or back, and he doesn't really mind that, either.
Sometimes she wonders when things got so weird.
But they've had a lot of First Days, and three-hundred-sixty-four days in between each, and that's a lot of time for change to sneak in.
Or maybe the sun's just finally gotten to their heads.
