In my "Life without Penny" series the four male principal characters in TBBT split up. Only Sheldon stays at Caltech, Leonard returns home to Princeton, Howard moves to the Kennedy Space Centre and Raj returns to his alma mater of Cambridge University. What happened to Raj? Part 3 - Waiting.

Raj flew back to California the day after the interview. He didn't get any sleep on the plane as he was going over the interview in his mind. He was continually second guessing himself on what he said at the interview, he wished that he had answered some questions differently. When he got back to California he was checking his email every few minutes, even though he knew it would be another week before the next batch of interviews would be taking place in Cambridge.
For the next week of work at Caltech Raj didn't get a lot of work done, he had a lot on his mind. Leonard and Sheldon took Raj to the cinema to see the new Star Trek movie, in an effort to try and get his mind off Cambridge. At the end of the week, even though he knew the second lot of interviews had taken place, there had been no news from Cambridge.
Raj was not feeling good by the end of the week, he watched the new Star Trek movie 8 times over the weekend. He also restarted his job search, which he had put on hold after he was invited for interview. He thought that he might have to return to India, as his visa for living in the USA was conditional on being employed.

Raj returned to Caltech on Monday determined to get back to doing the best job of being a scientist that he could. When he got to his office he checked his email and there was a message from Cambridge.
From: John dot Anderson at cam dot ac dot uk
To: Raj dot Koothrappali at astro dot caltech dot edu
Dear Raj
Sorry not to have contacted you since the interview. One of the candidates from last week couldn't make it as he was ill. We are rescheduling his interview for tomorrow. Don't panic, you are still under consideration for the job, you should hear from Cambridge in a couple of days.
best wishes
John Anderson M.A., Ph.D, FRS, FRAS, OBE
Professor of Astrophysics
University of Cambridge
After this message Raj got more work done that morning than he had done in all of the previous week!
