Second Thoughts?
(Iris POV)
I wake up to the sun shining on my face, I stretch my arms completely relaxed and realize my head is laying on something hard but soft, I look up to see Steve sleeping. I smile and put my head back down, close my eyes and rub his amazing abs. The covers are hardly on us anymore, my bare back is completely exposed and my body is covering his, my leg over his bottom half. I look at his face again watching him sleep, he's beautiful while sleeping. I'm about to kiss his chin when I see his eyes open. He looks down at me with the sweetest smile on his face, "you look so beautiful in the morning," he whispers as he rubs my cheek with his thumb and leans down to kiss me but suddenly something happens to me. I can't control it, I have some sort of epiphany, a giant knot in my chest that's making it difficult to breathe or think, I sit up and put the sheet around my body.
"You have to go." I blurt out.
"What?" He asks with slight confusion but also thinking I'm joking.
"You have to go, we made a terrible mistake last night."
"What? Iris, what are you talking? I thought..."
"I know what you thought but this can't happen." I don't let him finish, I start to get dressed.
I found his pants and throw them at him, I didn't mean to throw them so hard but I'm freaking out. "Iris, we had something special last night, there was something there between us." He's trying to reason, he reaches for my hand but I yank it back.
"Well, your wrong..." I quickly reply. "Yes, it was really hot and you were amazing and now that we got our sexual desires out of the way now we can move on." I'm not looking at him, I just continue to get dressed.
"You know that is not true, we have something special, Iris...I think," I stop him from finishing his sentence, he tries to hold my hand again.
"Don't, don't you dare say it," I strongly demand as I slap his hand away from mine. "I want you gone, I thought this friendship thing could work but obviously it can't and now that you got what you wanted you can go, so leave me alone." I quickly grab his arm and lead him to my front door, I shove all his clothes in his arms.
"Please don't do this...you know that's not true." He strongly denied.
"Oh give me a break! This is what you wanted from the start and I'll give it to you, you were good and I was an idiot once again..."
"No Iris...last night..." He again is trying to explain but I wouldn't or couldn't listen, I don't want to know what he was going to tell me.
"Stop! It's over. Just fuck off and leave me alone...I've told you over and over again but your too stubborn to listen...I didn't want any of this from the start but no you had to be friends...well that can't happen anymore..." I shout louder then I intended. I'm trying hard to steady my breathing, telling myself not to show any weakness or doubt. "Like I said, you're all the same..." And with that I push him out with his back to me.
He's speechless and is starting to turn around to face me, "I don't need you...I never did and I don't want to be with you...we're done." And with that I slam my door shut before I can see his face fully, he looked so sad and hurt. I collapse on the floor sobbing with my hands covering my mouth just in case he's still by the door, I can hear Luna in the her room whimpering which makes me cry more.
(Steve POV)
Steve was in the training room, he was helping one of the new recruits with their fighting skills. The poor recruit didn't know what he was in for. Steve was being vicious, mean and not acting like himself.
"Come on, if you can't handle a little toughness with me how do you expect to take on an alien?" He shouts with authority. "Do it again or maybe I'll just find someone else." He threatens.
The recruit just nodded and tried and tried again, every time he did he would shout in pain. Steve had him in a arm lock almost ready to snap it. "Okay, that's enough." Sam urgently called out, Steve looked over to see Sam and Natasha, he exhaled and let the guy go. "Go hit the showers." Sam told him as he patted his shoulder.
"What the hell was that?" Natasha worriedly asked.
"Nothing." He spoke as he tapes up his knuckles.
"That was not nothing, Steve you were about to break that poor kids arm." Sam responded.
"No I wasn't...maybe I am getting tried of being soft, they need to learn the hard way."
"Where is this coming from? Your not sounding like yourself, your acting like a dick," Natasha chimed in, he just glared at her.
"Thanks Natasha, great." He gave her sarcastic smile. Both Sam and Natasha just stood there with their arms folded until he talked to them.
Steve was going to the weights to do some lifting, doing them with ease as usual but he was more aggressive with his breathing. "Cap, what happened?" Sam asked calmly.
Steve put the weights down, sat up and exhaled. "We slept together the other night...Iris and me," he admitted. "...And it was amazing, I connected with her more then I have with anyone else...even Peggy."
"That's great..." Natasha was about to say but Steve interrupted her with a pointed finger, "I really thought this girl was special, I'm falling in love with her and I thought she felt the same way but in the morning she throws me out like a piece of trash, saying that we have gotten our sexual desires out of the way and I got what I wanted, that this is what I've been planning all along and...it's over, we're done, told me to stay away from her...she hasn't returned any of my calls." He snapped.
"Damn, that's cold." Sam exhaled while Steve shook his head. "You should just forget about her man, I thought she would be good for you but clearly she's not."
"Yeah, I think I will, if she's going to break off whatever we had, why do I care?" He bitterly responded as he was about to go back to the weights.
"Whoa stop right there," Natasha quickly spoke up, "Steve it's very clear what she's doing." Steve looks at Sam who gave a shrug that said "I don't know".
"What are you talking about Nat?" Steve asked a little annoyed.
"She's scared!...Of course she felt it too, that's why it's so scary...Steve she has never felt this way before," she told him.
"How do you know? You've never even met her Nat."
"Trust me...I know her...she's me." She started to explain, both guys just stayed quiet. "I don't know what her past is like but I can tell it's been bad and that she's dealt with a lot of shit." He thought about it and what she told him about her past did rush back to him but he was still pissed.
"Even if she did feel the same way she ruined that by kicking me out and what she said." He coldly replied.
"That's what she wants you to do but not what she really wants you to do! (Steve is very confused) She knows if she acts like this you'll leave because she's done it with probably every guy whose tried to be with her and it's worked, they leave and never come back...you have to go back to her and tell her you aren't going anywhere."
"Yeah but she..." Steve started to protest.
"Steve, do you love her?" She seriously asked.
"Yeah...I think I do."
"Okay then go prove it...let her know your not going to give up on her and make her see."
"How?" He could only ask.
"I don't know, that's what you have to figure out." She firmly finished before she left the gym.
Sam walked over to spot him while Steve went back to lifting weights, he was breathing heavy again, deep in thought. "I don't know man." He began to say, "she sounds to damaged for you...maybe find someone with less baggage."
"...Your right...that's why she needs me," he suddenly realized as he stopped lifting and stood up. "Where are you going?" Sam asked confused. "Going to prove to her that I'm not going anywhere, no matter how much she pushes me away...I'm going to show her that I'm not giving up on her." He declared patting Sam on the arm and left the gym and as Steve left Sam revealed a sly smirk. He couldn't leave the compound without apologizing to the recruit first, which he did. Now it was off to see her, hopefully he could make her see the man he truly was.
I know she's being a bitch again for hurting Steve but she's been through a lot and pushing him away! But luckily he has support from Natasha and Sam. Will her advice pay off?
