The devil's mum and dad

Chloe felt a scream rising when Uriel jump forwards, the blade flashing, going straight to her daughter. He moved faster than she could scream. Rory moved even faster. She stepped aside and kicked. The next moment they stood still again. Rory with a smile, Uriel with a painful look on his face, panting, his free hand pressed against the hip where Rory had kicked him.

"The blade wipes you out of existence," Azrael warned Rory.

"I know."

Uriel stepped forward, waving the knife. Rory moved to the left, forcing him to turn with her.

"But only if he can reach to me with it, aunt Ray-Ray," Rory continued. "And he hardly knows how to hold a knife."

"Bitch," Uriel snapped. Two light grey wings unfurled. "You don't know what I am." He raised the wings and swing them to hit Rory.

"No?" Two red wings blocked his swing and pushed him back.

"You're not human," Uriel shouted.

"You're slow understanding," Rory said. "Half-angel. I already called Lucifer dad and Chloe mom."

Uriel raised the knife again. The wings disappeared.

"Last change to deal kindly with everything," Rory said. "Just hand me the blade."

"Fuck you," he shouted. "I have a knife." He came forward again, making stabbing movements. Rory stepped aside and kicked. Uriel cursed. Chloe hadn't seen where Rory hit him, but he limped back. "You're all doomed," Uriel hissed. "Michael will end this bloody creation."

Rory came to him, diverting his attention with a punch by a fist, followed by a kick by a foot, aimed at the elbow of the arm that was holding Azrael's blade. Uriel screamed. The knife clattered to the ground. The next moment Uriel was on his knees, holding the elbow she had hit, while Rory picked up the blade.

"True. You had the blade," she said. "But I have been trained by and have sparred with aunty Maze for almost sixty years."

The goddess released Ella's wrist and stepped to Uriel. She grabbed his arm and pulled him up. "What did you mean? Michael would end this creation?"

Ella ran to Azrael, while Uriel answered his mother: "Michael said that."

"Tell me what it means," the goddess ordered him with that voice that resonated in the church and in Chloe's brain.

"I don't know, mother," Uriel answered. Tears appeared in his eyes. "I don't know. We complained about the creation and how father places humans above the angels. Michael promised us to solve this, but I do not know how and I don't know where he is."

"We complained?" Amenadiel interrupted him. "Who are these we?"

Uriel shook his head.

"Answer him," their mother commanded.

"Ibriel, Varael, Naskiel, me and Michael, mother."

Rory turned away from Uriel and the goddess and came to Chloe and Lucifer. She took a deep breath and gave them an almost shy smile. She stretched her hands, one to each of them. "Hi, mom. Hi, dad."

"You really are our daughter."

"Yes, mom."

Chloe took her in her arms. "Why didn't you tell us before?"

"Time travel one-o-one, mom. I have to be careful with telling things. Aunt Ella…" She looked at Ella who stood just aside and was listening. "… and I did some tests before I went back and we found things break if I tell too soon." Rory had one arm around Chloe, with her other hand she was still holding Lucifer's hand. Rory then looked at Lucifer.

"You talk with dad," he said.

"I talk with ayaya," she said, releasing Chloe and hugging him.

"You talk with dad and you don't hate me?"

"Of course not, dad. You have been for me and will be for me a wonderful dad."

A few steps further Uriel shouted: "… believe me, I don't know what Michael wants."

"Do you know what Michael wants?" Chloe asked Rory.

"Again: time travel one-o-one, mom. Things will go awfully wrong when I tell important things I only would know because I told them myself."

Chloe smiled. "I believe you. We have to believe you."

The goddess and Amenadiel were still inquiring Uriel. Frank, Ella, Azrael, Maze and Raziel had come closer and were standing around Rory, Chloe and Lucifer. Rory hugged Frank and gave the four women a hug and a kiss.

"So I will train you?" Maze asked.

"Yeah, aunt Maze."

"Mm," Maze said. Then she grinned. "Than there were one or two details we will go over."

"So I will become an old lady with wrinkles," Ella said.

"I come from 2085, aunt Ella."

"Don't tell me whether I have wrinkles," Chloe said. Suddenly she realized with a shock. "I will become an old human while Lucifer…" She looked at him.

"Will love you, detective," he whispered.

"He will, mom," Rory added

"In 2085 I will be 104," Chloe said softly. "I must be dead. You can't tell me?"

"I can't tell you when you will die."

"Chloe, it only means you will be in heaven, in the Silver City," Azrael said. "I will bring your soul."

"You won't," Rory interrupted. "Mom will have private transport. Dad and I did curse each others stubbornness. We both wanted to bring her to heaven."

Did curse, Chloe thought, and wanted. Twice a past tense. So in 2085 she would be dead.

"I will ask father," they heard Amenadiel saying. All turned to look at Amenadiel, Uriel and the goddess. Amenadiel had folded his hands.

"He ignores me," the goddess said. "He will ignore you."

"How could I bring the detective to heaven?" Lucifer continued their own conversation. "I'm banned. I will burst in flames if I pass the Pearl Gates."

Rory took both his hands. "Dad, things can change."

"I will never beg forgiveness. I will…"

"Dad," Rory interrupted him. "Please, let ayaya just say something to you."

"Why would I?"

"For mom's and your own happiness. Do you want to continue seeing mom after she dies?"

Lucifer's face showed anger and frustration. Then he looked at Chloe and closed his eyes, lips trembling. Rory hugged him.

Footsteps behind them. Chloe looked back and saw a man coming who most likely had just entered the church: an Afro-American man, about the same size as Lucifer, a friendly smile and very short trimmed hair and beard. Socks in sandals she noticed when he came closer and a grey, woolen cardigan. "Father," she heard both Raziel and Azrael whisper.

"My children," the man said with a smile. "And my future grandchild and my dear Frank." His eyes went to Chloe, then Ella, then Maze and his smile broadened. "You three were included in the my children. As practically daughters-in-law I consider you my family."

"You accept a demon in your family?" Maze sneered.

He raised a hand and stroke Maze' cheek. "Yes, Mazikeen. Just as Chloe, Ella and Linda, you're welcome."

"What are your plans with the detective?" Lucifer snapped. "Why did you put her on my path?"

"I put you on her path, my boy. For my plans with you are not yet finished."

"I told you," Frank muttered. God smiled and patted Frank on the arm.

"And are you going to explain?" Lucifer asked angrily.

"Yes," his dad answered.

"What?"

His dad laughed. "Not yet, but I will explain. And you will be with her when I do explain, so you will know also. But first I need to talk with my wife…"

"Ayaya," Rory interrupted. "You had two points."

God closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "Yes, girl. Lucifer… I was wrong. I regret how I handled you. I should have had more patience."

Chloe looked at Lucifer. He had turned pale, was trembling as in shock. She put her arm around his waist and puled him close.

"And second I do end your ban from heaven now. You're allowed to visit the Silver City whenever you want."

"Why would I ever?" Lucifer's voice could hardly be heard.

His dad smiled. "You can think of a reason yourself. However if you need a hint, imagine you and Chloe a hundred years in the future. Can you come with me Rory? To face your amagal."

Rory kissed both Chloe and Lucifer and whispered: "We talk more in a few moments."

"The Big Guy smiled at me," Ella whispered while Rory and God walked to the goddess and Uriel.

God looked over his shoulder, said: "I always do when you pray, Ella" and then walked on. Ella grabbed Azrael's hand.

"Father came to Earth," Raziel said.

"And he welcomed me," Maze stammered.

"He welcomed all three of us," Ella said, exited, almost jumping, still holding Azrael's hand.

"You are a human. You pray everyday. Me… I…" With her eyes wide opened Maze hold her breath. Raziel hugged and kissed her.

"Lucifer," Chloe said and carefully kissed his cheek. "Are you ok?"

"I… I don't know, Chloe."

The use of her name told Chloe he was really upset.

"Father apologized, Lucifer," Azrael said. "That has never happened."

"I know." Lucifer closed his eyes and breathed deep and slowly. "I know. But… No. Chloe what should I do?"

"Take your time of think it over without overthinking it," Chloe said. "You have the right to take any time you need."

He nodded slowly. "Yes, detective. That is right. Any time I need." He looked at his father, who was talking with his mum. Rory and Amenadiel were listening while Uriel was rolled up on the ground between them. Suddenly God pointed with a hand at Uriel. A flash of white light blinded Chloe for a second. When she could see again, Uriel was gone.

"What happened?" Chloe asked.

"Father transported him elsewhere," Raziel explained. "I don't know where."

"Frank?" God said.

Frank went to him. "Yes, Lord?"

"Can my wife and I use your workroom to talk in private?"

"Of course, my Lord. The church is all yours."

"Well, even so. And I know you bought two bottles Beaujolais Nouveau this week. Can we have one? It will help to improve the atmosphere."

While God and the goddess went to a door behind the altar – apparently God knew where the workroom was – Frank went to a door in the left, most likely to get the wine. Rory first hugged Lucifer again and then Chloe. "I'm glad I can talk to you again, mom."

"Again? You mean after I died, all the years somewhere in the future that you didn't see me?" Chloe asked, hoping to learn when she would die."

"What? No, mom. I mean after the days I'm in this present, which is your time and my past, I'm glad I can tell you who I am." Rory shook her head. "As I explained Ella and I found out, knowing too early shakes the reality. No-one shouldn't know when he or she dies. But it is safe to tell you, that you, I and dad talked the day before I travelled back to this year. I'm a half-angel. I do visit heaven at least once a week."

"Me…" Lucifer started.

"You heard ayaya, dad. Your ban is lifted," Rory said.

"I can't imagine…" Lucifer stopped talking and stared ahead. Frank came back with two bottles of wine. "You think they need that much help to improve the atmosphere," Lucifer stated with a grin. "Good," he said to Rory. "I will see it day by day. What did they talk about while Uriel was still here?"

"They asked what Uriel knows of Michael's plans."

"And father asked where Michael is," Amenadiel added.

"Father is omniscient," Azrael said. "He knows."

"But at the moment he doesn't see where Michael is," Amenadiel answered. "And Uriel doesn't know."

"Do you know?" Azrael asked Rory.

"Time travel one-o-one, aunt Ray-Ray."

"Come on."

Ella shook her head. "She said before: knowing too early shakes the reality. She must be careful."

"Indeed, aunt Ella. If I tell something I only learned because I told it in this past, meaning no one else told me, it even tears reality apart."

Chloe repeated the sentence in her head and feared she would get a headache.

"With what kind of experi…" Ella looked at Rory with eyes half closed and then grinned. "You can't tell me. I have to think of something myself. I guess I have at least twenty years to think about it."

"Where did dad send Uriel," Lucifer asked.

"To his palace in Silver City. He ordered him to stay there the next century until he has time to decide how to deal with him."

Frank came back from his workroom. "The Lord thanked me, for the wine and for my work as priest." He smiled with his eyes closed, then turned to Lucifer: "And he made the same remark as you did when I gave him the two bottles: do we need that much help. And he said we shouldn't wait for them. He will see you all when he and his wife have finished talking, but it might take hours."

"We were to have diner," Chloe said. "Do you all join us?"

'Yes, I travelled back to deal with amagal and Uriel," Rory explained. They were in the penthouse, Linda had joined them, Frank had stayed in his church, so it was Rory, Chloe and Lucifer, Linda and Amenadiel, Ella and Azrael and Maze and Raziel.

"And you talked with father yesterday," Raziel said to Rory.

"That was weird. Ayaya from the present never saw me before, but he knew I would come. I only had to fill in some details of a future he had seen anyway."

"Uriel couldn't read your pattern," Amenadiel said.

"Yes. Ayaya will explain that later."

"But…"

"No, uncle A. Ayaya must explain. Time travel…"

"One o one," Ella joined her and laughed.

"Sound as if Rory and miss Lopez will be the authors of a difficult book," Lucifer said.

It was a quarter to midnight when God and the goddess appeared in the penthouse. "We reached a compromise," Lucifer's mom said. "We will create a new universe with intelligent being as I would like them to be."

"And this creation?" Azrael and Ella both asked.

"Will be taken care of," God said. "Don't be afraid. Hundred and twenty years from now we will call the nine of you together and you will be the first to hear the details."

"Hundred and twenty…" Linda whispered.

"Your soul," Azrael explained. She glanced at Amenadiel and then said to Linda. "But I presume I will also not be allowed to take bring you to Silver City."

"What about Michael and Uriel, father?" Raziel asked.

God seated on the couch next to Lucifer, who frowned but didn't say anything. "It started maybe four hundred years ago. There was something… wrong is too much, but something was not as I expected it to be. I tried to point it down, but somehow it succeeded to escape my searches. It took me centuries to realize that it only could be Uriel's pattern reading, that could see where I would search and help 'him', 'it', 'what is was', to escape. I needed something far in the future that could escape his pattern reading. Do you have something to drink for me?"

Those last words were for Lucifer, who raised and brought his dad and himself a whisky.

"But I couldn't prove Uriel was involved. It was only an assumption. So I apologize to Chloe, but I let her be born with a purpose and made her immune for Lucifer's powers. Uriel noticed this. He thought her purpose was to hurt Lucifer and did not pay attention."

"But you needed me," Rory said. "To come from even further away in the future and ruin their plans. I absorbed Lilith's powers when mom put on Lilith's ring, so they lacked Lilith's knowledge on how to use the Flaming Sword and where the two missing pieces of the sword are."

"I didn't know," the goddess said. "Michael had only told me they would open the Pearl Gate and Uriel had assured me all my children would be with me. Uriel lied to me. He lied to me!"

"The patterns showed many of our children would die if they would approach the Gate," God said. "But Michael has some other plan. Uriel doesn't know and I can't find Michael at the moment." He emptied the glass and raised. "I will search for him. `We will inquire Ibriel, Varael, Naskiel. Your mother will come with me to the Silver City and I will let you know when I have found Michael."

Two hours later Chloe and Lucifer were back at Chloe's place, together with Rory who would sleep in the guest room.

"Dan will bring Trixie tomorrow before breakfast," Chloe said.

"Nice. Looking forward to see my big sister."

"But we can't tell her who you are."

"Why not, mom?"
