There was this house at the end of my street. It was old, kinda crummy looking. It's been abandoned for as long as I can remember. Once, when I was younger, I asked my parents why no one moved in there. They told me that something had happened to the last owners and now no one wanted the house. It used to be for sale, back before I was born. They couldn't sell it. I never knew why.

Anyway, one day as I was walking home from the movies, I noticed something through the window of that old house. Curious, I went inside. It was dark. There were bugs crawling on the floor and there was an inch of dust on just about every surface.

"Hello?" I called. I could of sworn I heard crying. Again, I called, " Hello?" Then I heard the shuffle of feet across the floor. I walked down the hall and noticed a little girl half hiding behind the entrance to what looked like the kitchen. " Its ok...come on...I won't hurt ya..."

At first, the little girl didn't do anything. Then she started, slowly, to walk towards me. She had blond curls and big blue eyes and was wearing a pale pink sun dress.

"I'm Ponyboy..." I told her. I crouched down so I'd be at eye level with her, " What's your name?"

"Webecca." came her hesitant reply.

"Are you lost, Rebecca?" I asked her.

She nodded, " I can't find muy pawents."

"I'll help you look, ok?"

The little girl nodded. I led her outside. It was starting to get dark. I took her alot of places before we finally came to the park. There, there was 2 people. A man and a women, dressed plainly, looking around calling out, " Rebecca! Rebecca!"

Rebecca ran past me, shouting, " Mommy! Daddy!" I couldn't help but smile. It was such a heart warming site. The man approached me, " Thank you, son. You don't know how long we've been looking for her."

I shrugged my shoulders slightly, " No problem.."

The man went to join his family and they walked away. I went home in a very good mood.

---------------------

Some time after supper, I was on doing homework in the living room. Darry was reading the paper. Soda had the radio on (loud, of course), making it kind of hard to concentrate. I was about to ask him to turn it down when the song ended..

" And that ladies and gentlemen was of course, 'Good Vibrations' by the Beach Boys. Now to Hank for the local news, Hank.."

"Thank you, John. In sports, the high-school won the Football championship for it's fifth year in a row and the Soccer team lost for its Fifth hahaha year in a row. And on a more somber note, Today marks the 25th anniversary of the triple, homicide of Janet and Robert Stephens and their 5 year old daughter Rebecca. The bodies of Janet and Robert had been dumped in the park.Rebecca's body was never found. The man responsible was found and was sent to the electric chair. Rumor has it that you can still hear the little girls cry inside of the house..."

"Hey, Pony, you ok?...You look alittle pale.." Soda told me. I was trembling. I felt dizzy. I stood up and almost fell over. Darry helped me to the bedroom and got me to lay down. Darry and Soda were making a big fuss over me. My mind was else where...The words rang in my ears... you can still hear the little girls cry inside of the house...

...not anymore...
