Once again I combined two scenes in one "chapter" because they use the same song. Admittedly, there's only a slight difference between them, but I decided to include them both anyway.
Alternate Scene 4:
It's not long before the MC returns to the stage and calls Rachel and Blaine back up. They resume their spots on their stools and wait for his decision.
"By unanimous vote, the judges have decided to allow you both to pick a new song."
The audience cheers. Rachel barely hears it over the intensity of her relief. She smiles widely at Blaine.
"And to avoid us risking a similar situation, we have put new songs into the hat. These are all upbeat musical numbers. Some are solos, some are duets, and some are group numbers. Any of these should be fine. However, if either of you have a reason for thinking the song you chose is not….appropriate…let me know and you can pick another. Okay?"
They nod their relief. The MC holds the hat out to Rachel first. She pulls out the paper and reads it. Immediately she starts laughing, but bites her lip to control it. The MC looks wary. So does Blaine. She turns to him apologetically.
"Sorry, Blaine. You can't get mad at me! I pulled it from a hat!"
Nervously, Blaine takes the paper from her. When he sees the song title, his eyes jump to hers. "No!"
"Sorry."
Truly, he looks despondent. She feels bad. Then, his expression changes to one of determination. He gives her one last look before sprinting off stage towards his team. Rachel turns to the bewildered MC.
"Uh…..is everything okay?"
She smiles slightly. "Yeah, everything's fine. It's just…we were just talking about this song like a week or two ago and I—"
She's cut off by Blaine sprinting across the stage to where the rest of New Directions are standing. As he runs, he pulls off his Dalton blazer and lets it drop to the stage floor. He's yanking off his shirt by the time he gets off stage. Rachel blinks then continues with what she was saying.
"And I sort of made a promise about this song. A promise to Blaine."
Trent trudges onto stage and sits on Blaine's vacated stool next to her. "Hi, Rachel."
She grins. "Hi, Trent. Sorry."
He sighs and shakes his head.
Blaine comes jogging back on stage carrying a stool, which he sits next to Rachel. He's now wearing Artie's shirt and tie. "Hi, uh, I'm…the newest member of the New Directions."
The MC stares in confusion. "You…..switched teams?"
Rachel tries to explain. "I pulled a duet. This particular song is the one I promised Blaine I'd sing with him. So when that's the song I pulled…"
"I had to switch teams so I could sing it with her."
"And we now no longer have a chance in hell of winning. Thanks." Trent complains.
"What song?" The MC asks.
"Suddenly Seymour." Blaine is grinning widely.
Rachel and Blaine sing "Suddenly Seymour" and their voices blend and harmonize beautifully. They sound truly amazing together and get a standing ovation. When they finish, Rachel is breathing hard. Blaine had scooted closer to her and wrapped an arm around her towards the end when she started leaning slightly. But they got through the entire song. Trent applauds as well, but is more miffed than before. He knows they have no chance now.

Alternate Scene 5:
She smirks and walks forward to join Blaine, who is already standing by the MC. The MC claps his hands. "Wonderful! Now we can get started. The rest of the teams can head off stage now, it's down to these two. Now, for you two, I'm going to have you pick a song out of a hat. You will both remain here on stage and just take turns singing. When it's not your turn to sing, you'll sit on a stool."
Blaine raises a hand hesitantly. Rachel catches him glance at her briefly. "Um, can we sit on stools while performing?"
The MC frowns, then shrugs. "Sure."
"As I was saying, it's up to you. Now, once you pick a song there is no changing it. The song you pick is the song you sing. If you truly can't or won't, you can pass it off to a teammate. However, you will be deducted points for that. And if the person you choose can't or won't, then you forfeit."
The two teens nod their understanding. Rachel isn't worried. She can sing anything. Looking at Blaine, she knows that's true for him as well. What it really comes down to is how well matched they are to the song they happen to pick. While someone brings out stools for them to sit on, Blaine picks first. He looks at the paper in his hands and smiles slightly with a shrug. The MC holds the hat in front of Rachel. She pulls out a song and looks at it. Immediately, she turns to Blaine with an apologetic look. He looks alarmed and sits up straighter.
"What?"
She bites her lip. "Just remember…..you can't get mad at me. I didn't choose it, I just…..pulled it from a hat."
Eyes narrowed, he takes the paper from her hand and reads off the title. His eyes widen and jump to hers. "No."
She gives a little shrug, feeling bad. "Sorry."
He stands. "No."
After a moment of indecision on his part, he turns and sprints off stage.
"Uh…..is everything okay?"
She smiles slightly. "Yeah, everything's fine. It's just…we were just talking about this song like a week or two ago and I—"
