Chapter 10: Adoption Day

The next morning, Timon and Pumbaa are sleeping as meerkat and warthog until they heard an alarm goes. They turned off the alarm clock and woke up early. They shifted into humans and quickly got dressed. They got out of their separate room and looked at each other smiling.

"Morning!" They greeted together.

"You ready for something special?" Timon asked.

"You bet your boots it is." replied Pumbaa.

"Then let's go get some donuts and head straight to the orphanage!" said Timon.

"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go!" exclaimed Pumbaa.

"Race ya at the bottom!" said Timon sliding down on the stair rails while Pumbaa followed him downstairs.

They exited the house and went to their vehicle. Pumbaa turned on the engine to pulled back into driveway and drove towards to get some donuts. They stopped by at Dunkin Donuts drive thru.

"Welcome to Dunkin Donuts, may I take your order?"

"Yes, I would like 10 donuts with please and some coffee please." said Timon.

"Alright, that'll be 10 dollars."

"Thank you."

They pulled up by drive out window and give Pumbaa's credit card to an employee to pay the bill. Then the employee gave the credit card back to Pumbaa and handed him two coffees and a box of donuts. They drove off from the drive thru and heading their way to the orphanage.

"Alright, we'll split the donuts for each of us and save two for Marcy in case she's hungry." said Timon when he drinks his coffee.

"Good idea, Timon. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day." said Pumbaa.

"Now, I'm gonna right down some house rules if she lives with us."

"That's sounds like a good idea. Being a parent gives you a simple responsibility. For example, you get to feed her, bathed her, dressed her, playing with her, read her a story, and tucked her in on her warm bed." Pumbaa reminded his best friend.

"I'm way ahead of you." said Timon when he writes down on his note so quickly.

They raised their cups to clink their plastic cup and drink their coffee.

"Well, this is our stop." said Pumbaa as they parked the car in front of the gate.

They got out from their vehicle and took their donuts with them. They entered to the building and they see a janitor mopping the floor while two boys running around in the lobby. They walked towards to the lobby desk where a clerk woman wearing a glasses typed down on her computer. Timon rang the bell to get her attention. She looked up and smiled.

"Hello, welcome to Children's Sanctuary. What can I help you with?" said the clerk lady.

"Hi, is Ms. Padilla available? We would like to have a word for putting up the adoption." replied Timon.

"Of course, I'll let her know that you're here."

"Thank you." Timon thanked her.

"No problem." said the clerk lady.

Timon and Pumbaa took their seat. Pumbaa is holding on to the box that has donuts while Timon is reading a magazine. Then he felt a thud on his foot. He looked down and see bouncy ball with a star that played by a little boy who is toddler.

He looked up at Timon start playfully blowing raspberry at him. Timon looked surprised and he moved his eyes to make no one will see him. He playfully blowing raspberry back at him. A toddler boy giggled and continued playing his bouncy ball. Timon smiled while Pumbaa chuckled when saw the whole thing.

Suddenly, they heard a door open and see Ms. Padilla walked towards them smiling.

"Hi, good morning." greeted Ms. Padilla.

"Good morning, ma'am. How are you this morning?" greeted Timon.

"I'm fine, how are you?"

"I'm good. We brought you some donuts." offered Timon

"Oh, that's sweet of you. Right this way into my office." said Ms. Padilla.

"Sweet!" Timon and Pumbaa got off from the bench and followed Ms. Padilla to her office. They have entered her office.

"Have a seat."

They take their seats when they set the donuts down on her desk and ate their donuts. Ms. Padilla took one donut and took a bite.

"It's so delicious! I love it." said Ms. Padilla.

"Well, good for you." said Timon.

"So, how's Marcy?" asked Pumbaa.

"She's doing fine. Which reminds me when Bailey told me yesterday that you stood up against that bully and give Marcy back her caterpillar toy. Is that true?"

"Well, yes. You see, I don't like bullies because they always picking on kids like I used to be picked on, but luckily I didn't put up a fight and just ignored." replied Timon.

"What he meant was that standing up against the bully is the right thing to do." Pumbaa added.

"That's very sweet of you defending Marcy. I was also told that you bought her an ice cream along with her friend." said Ms. Padilla.

"Oh yeah, she sure loves ice cream. We were just talking about her life story how she likes frogs or playing video games." said Timon.

"Well, Marcy is quite shy, but she's such a sweet little angel. I looked after her since she was a baby after her parents left her here. She was afraid of being left all alone. But luckily, she made a few friends like Bailey for example." said Ms. Padilla.

"Did something ever happened to her parents?" Pumbaa asked.

"Yes, five years ago Marcy had a wonderful life with her family. Her parents loved her more than anything, but then everything is changed when somethings going on. When all of chaos break loose, her parents were afraid that most criminals were going after them and her daughter because they have some trouble history from the past. So her parents have no choice, but to left her here under her protection." Ms. Padilla explained.

"What about her brother? Is he not left here too?" asked Pumbaa worrying.

"Oh, her brothers fine. He was dropped off at his grandparents' house under his protection." Ms. Padilla confirmed.

"So if her brother was dropped off at his grandparents' house, then why didn't they left Marcy with her brother?" asked Timon concern.

"I have honestly no idea why they have to separate their children, because I believe that her brother was too young to understand." replied Ms. Padilla.

"Should we tell her about this?" asked Pumbaa.

"I'm afraid that she's too young to understand as well and I can't even find her grandparents address."

"Oh, I see." said Timon quietly.

"And then what happened." asked Pumbaa.

"It's sad to say this, but the police reported that her parents got into an accident. I'm afraid…..her parents were nowhere to be found." replied Ms. Padilla quietly.

"You mean…..they're gone?" asked Timon quietly.

Ms. Padilla closed her eyes and nodded sadly.

"Yes, they passed away."

Timon felt his heart hurt when she told them about her parents' fate. Now he knows why Marcy lost her parents since she was left here as a baby. Pumbaa felted too, but he knew most children were abandoned by the parents as a baby or kicked them out of their house. At least her brother was safe with his grandparents, but they didn't know where he lived. For now, he was started to felt sympathy about Marcy.

"I'm terribly sorry about her parents. She told me everything back when she showed me her photo." said Timon softly.

"She did?" asked Ms. Padilla.

"Yeah, there's one reason why we're here."

Ms. Padilla looked at him confused. Timon give his friend an exchange when Pumbaa nodded. Timon looked at the orphanage caretaker.

"You see, ever since we found her two days ago, Pumbaa and I are having a discussion when he convinced me that she is really grown fond of me and we were thinking if we would like to adopt Marcy." said Timon telling her the truth.

Ms. Padilla felt her heart warming. She smiled softly. Timon and Pumbaa never seen her reaction for what he said.

"I knew this day would come. Marcy has been waited for so long to be adopted. I couldn't imagine how you two would do something for her ever since." said Ms. Padilla softly when she smiling.

"So, that's a yes?" asked Timon.

"Of course you can, however you have to sign the papers in order to read it first." Ms. Padilla handed out some papers to Timon. He read it carefully to agree the terms. He put the papers down on the desk and used a pen to signed his signature. He handed the papers back to Ms. Padilla.

"Ma'am, I will do whatever it takes to look after Marcy. I will raise her, support her, and protect her no matter what happens. And I promise that you won't be disappointed." said Timon honesty.

"Do you swear to be there for her?" asked Ms. Padilla.

"Yes, definitely, absolutely." replied Timon.

"That's what I like to hear. Congratulations gentlemen, she's now officially adopted."

Meanwhile in her room, Marcy is playing her video game on Nintendo 3DS sitting on her bed while Bailey is reading her chapter book. The girls already woke up and got dressed. Suddenly they heard a door knocking.

"Come in." Bailey answered.

The door was open by the clerk lady from the lobby.

"Marcy, I got some good news." said the clerk lady. Marcy put down her 3DS and looked up at her. Bailey put down her book as well.

"Pack your stuff because you are adopted."

Marcy gasp softly and she smiled.

"Really?!" Marcy asked

"That's right, get your stuff ready. They'll be waiting for you in the lobby." said the clerk lady when closed the door.

Marcy couldn't believe it. She's been waiting for this moment. Then she started to scream with joy while Bailey covered her ears.

"Marcy! Do, you really have to scream?"

"Sorry Bailey, but I'm finally adopted!" exclaimed Marcy excited.

She jumped off the bed to put away her 3DS in her backpack. She pulled out her suitcase to start packing her clothes. Bailey smiled at her roommate.

"Really?" asked Bailey.

"Yes! I've been waiting for this moment. I can finally live with my parents." replied Marcy.

"Well that's good news. I'm so happy for you." said Bailey giving her roommate a hug while Marcy giggled.

They let go of their embrace and start packing. Bailey help Marcy packing her toys and books in her other suitcase. Once they are finished packing, Marcy zipped her suitcase while Bailey closed her friends' luggage. Marcy put on her backpack and grab her stuffed caterpillar.

"I wonder what my parents are like?" asked Marcy.

"I don't know about you, but we'll have to find out. C'mon." said Bailey as she starts carrying Marcy' suitcases.

Bailey opens the door and Marcy ran off headed downstairs to the lobby.

"Marcy, wait up!" hollered Bailey when she tries to catch up with her, but Marcy didn't hear her.

She giggled when she is running downstairs until she reached to the lobby and then she stops running. Marcy was standing in front of the stairs and looked straight at Ms. Padilla talking with two men. She was surprised when she remembers these two. Ms. Padilla noticed Marcy standing there.

"Marcy, perfect timing. Guess who's going to adopt you?" Ms. Padilla guessed.

Two men turned around and looked at Marcy smiling.

"Hi there, kiddo."

Marcy knew who they were. Those are the same men who found her. Brought her back here. Defending her against the bully. Buying her ice cream. She was expecting her adopted parents, but it turns out that there were two men. She also remembers their names, Timon and Pumbaa. Marcy didn't know what to say at first, but instead she spoke.

"Are you adopting me?" Marcy asked softly.

"Why yes, yes we are." replied Timon.

She stood silence for a moment. Timon didn't expect her reaction whether she's happy or sad. So he spoke again.

"You remember when you asked me saying you might get adopted someday, right? Well, it was all Pumbaa's idea. Unless if you changed your mind, I understand-"

He stopped talking when he felt his leg was touched. He looked down and see Marcy clinging on his legs. She looked up at him smiling. Timon was surprised at first, but he smiled back at her. Suddenly, Bailey finally made it to the bottom carrying Marcy's suitcases.

"Marcy, what did I told you about….." Bailey paused her sentence and looked at her friend hugging this man's leg.

Bailey remember those two since Marcy told her everything about them. Bailey smiled softly. Pumbaa already pulled out his phone to record the moment. He started to laugh. Timon looked at him confused.

"What's so funny?" asked Timon.

"I thought it might be cute to record a video, but I can't help it when she clinging on to you like a koala bear." replied Pumbaa and laughed. Marcy giggled when she hugged his leg.

"Okay, you can let go of me, now." Timon chuckled.

"No way, you're my daddy now!" said Marcy giggled.

"Daddy?!" exclaimed Timon.

Pumbaa laughed so hard. Timon give him a deadpanned.

"Oh, so you laughing at me?!"

"Sorry! It…it's just….she just called you daddy!" Pumbaa laughed.

"Oh yeah, whatever happened to 'she gotta get to know us'?" asked Timon.

"You know, I think I change my mind."

"Well, my guess is that she will have to call you an uncle."

Timon tried to walk, but Marcy still hugging his legs and couldn't let go giggling. They stopped laughing to take their breathe. Pumbaa stop recording his phone and putting it back into his pocket. He shakes his hands with Ms. Padilla.

"Thank you so much for supporting Marcy. You know how much she means to you." said Ms. Padilla thanking him.

"Your welcome, ma'am. We're taking good care of her." replied Pumbaa.

Marcy let go of Timon's leg and looked at Ms. Padilla.

"What about Bailey? Is she coming?" asked Marcy.

Bailey dropped her smile and looked nervous. She knew Marcy can go, but she has to stay behind. She walked over to Marcy and kneeled to her face.

"Actually…..I'm not going with you."

"Huh?" Marcy dropped her smile.

"You see, someone has to stay here."

"You mean…..you're not coming with us." asked Marcy quietly.

"Yeah, I'm so sorry, but it's time for you to go." replied Bailey softly.

Marcy couldn't believe if it's true. She may be adopted, but Bailey, her most trusted friend who looked after her staying behind. Her small tears started to swell. She hugged her and Bailey hugged her back. Marcy she her tears.

"I don't wanna leave you." cried Marcy softly.

"Hey, it's gonna be okay. We'll see each other again when we go back to school." said Bailey.

Marcy let go of hugging and looked at her eyes.

"You promised you won't forget me?"

"Of course I won't forget you. I want you to be happy with your new family. You'll get to see Anne and Sasha when you played together. Made some new friends and have so much fun. No matter what happens, you'll always like a sister figure to me." said Bailey kindly.

Marcy gave her sister figure one last hug and smile with a little tear.

"I love you Bailey."

"I love you too, Marcy."

Ms. Padilla felt her heart warm and shed a little tear, but with smile. Timon shed his tears as well.

"Timon, are you crying?" asked Pumbaa softly.

"No, I got sweat in my eyes." Timon denied softly wiping his tears.

Both girls let go of their hug and smiling at each other.

"Thank you, Bailey, for everything." said Marcy thanking her friend.

"Your welcome, Marcy. You know, maybe you're not the only one who gets adopted." replied Bailey.

"What do you mean?" asked Marcy curious.

"I'm adopted too…..by my mom."

Bailey looked over to Ms. Padilla gasping softly when she covers her mouth smiling with her tears shedding. She walked over to her soon to be 'adopted daughter' and gave her a warm hug. Marcy smiled proudly. Pumbaa put his arm around Timon's shoulder smiling as well.

"Well, I'll be monkeys uncle." said Timon softly.

They let go of their hug and looked each other's eyes smiling.

"If it's alright that I can stick around here?" asked Bailey kindly.

"Of course you can, I'm so proud of you for being part of the family." replied Ms. Padilla kissing her adopted daughter forehead. Then she looked at Marcy smiling. She's bending her knees to give Marcy a hug.

"I'm really gonna miss you Marcy. No matter where you go, you'll always be a sweet little angel." said Ms. Padilla softly.

"Thank you Ms. Padilla, for everything." Marcy thanked her caretaker.

Ms. Padilla is standing up shaking her hands with Timon.

"Thank you so much for everything. I'm sure you'll be a good father." Ms. Padilla thanking Timon.

"Your welcome, ma'am. You won't regret it." said Timon.

Pumbaa picked up Marcy's suitcases for assistance. Timon is picked up the box of donuts that he was gonna save and took one donut out to offer Marcy her treat. Marcy smiled and took the donut from his hand. She took a bite and looked happy.

"I love donuts." said Marcy.

"Well, you coming?"

Marcy nodded. They exited through the door and went straight to their vehicle. Pumbaa set Marcy's suitcases in the trunk and got into the driver seat. Timon open the door for Marcy when climbing to the back seat and she buckle herself up. Timon closed the door and went into the passenger seat. Ms. Padilla and Bailey are standing there in front of the gate watching them leaving. Marcy open the backseat window and waved her hands to them.

"Bye Bailey! Thanks for everything!" hollered Marcy.

"You take care of yourself!" Bailey hollered waving back at Marcy. They watched them drove away until they left. Bailey looked at her adoptive mother smiling.

"Are you alright, sweetie?" asked Ms. Padilla kindly.

"Yeah mom, I'll be alright. We'll see each other again soon."

And now Marcy can live happily with her foster family, but this story is not over yet. It might take a while because I'm waiting for an announcement when Anne's parents first name will be revealed otherwise I have upload the next chapter without their first name.
