Chapter 14: Secrets Revealed
The next morning when the sun shines through the window, Marcy slowly woke up as she sits up and yawned. She rubbed her eyes and looked tired a bit. She got off from her bed and walked right out from her room as she walks downstairs to the kitchen.
Marcy opens the pantry door to take out her favorite cereal for breakfast and set it down at the table. Then she opens the fridge to get the milk and close the fridge. After she set the milk down at the table, she went to grab a bowl, but she couldn't reach it because she's still little. Marcy looked up at the cupboard when there's a bowl up there.
Suddenly, Timon entered the kitchen as a human wearing his pjs to check on Marcy in case she woke up early, but then he smiled softly and walked over to the cupboard to get two bowls and pulled out two spoons.
"Need a hand?" He asked kindly.
"Oh, morning daddy." Marcy greeted surprised.
"Good morning, sweetie. Had a good night sleep?"
"Mm hmm." Marcy nodded.
"That's good to hear."
He sat two bowls down at the table letting Marcy sit down at the table. Timon poured some cereal in each bowls and then poured some milk as they proceeded to eat their breakfast.
Pumbaa entered the kitchen as a human wearing a to get some bread and put it in the toaster to cook it. While he's waiting, he went to get some jams and a plate until he heard a ding from the toaster. He took the fried bread out of the toaster and sat down at the table when take bite of it.
"Morning, sweetie. Timon." Pumbaa greeted.
"Morning, Uncle Pumbaa." Marcy greeted back.
"Did you get a goodnight sleep?"
"Hey, I asked her first." teased Timon.
"Sorry, I didn't see you coming in." Pumbaa apologized.
"It's fine, no biggies." replied Timon when eating his cereal. "So, what do you want to today for fun?"
Before Pumbaa replied, they heard a ringtone. Timon pulled out his phone from his pjs pants and answered the call.
"Hello?"
Then he heard a voice as he recognized and smiled.
"Oh, good morning, ma'am. How have you been?"
Both Marcy and Pumbaa are staring at him.
"I'm good, so what's up?"
Marcy couldn't hear the voice while Pumbaa eavesdropping by his left ear listening to their conversation.
"Oh, okay…I see…. We'll see you at noon…. Thank you…."
Timon ended the call and looked at his adoptive daughter smiling.
"Good news, Marcy. Your friend is coming over today."
Marcy eyes went wide open. Then she quickly picks up the pace by shoving her cereal inside her mouth and picked up the bowl to drink her milk. Timon and Pumbaa oddly staring at her when she's eating. Then she sat down the bowl and swallow it all.
"What's the rush kid?" Timon confused.
"I have to be ready! Anne is coming over with her parents!" said Marcy cheerfully.
"Hold your horses, pumpkin. It's only seven thirty." Pumbaa reminded her.
"I know, but I have never had my best friend to come over for a visit since I was an orphan." said Marcy honestly.
"Well, now that you live with us, you have plenty of time to get ready for a visit." said Timon.
"Take your time, sweetie. It doesn't have to be perfect." Pumbaa added.
"You're right, thanks dad." Marcy thanked him.
"You're welcome sweetie." replied Timon when he kissed her forehead. "Now run along and get some changed."
"Okay."
Marcy got off from the table and exit from the kitchen when ran upstairs to get her clothes change. They've already finished their breakfast when Timon got off from the table when he sat the bowl at the sink.
"I'm gonna go get some mails." Timon suggested.
"Then I'll empty the dishwasher." Pumbaa suggested as well.
Timon walked through the door as he went to get the mailbox. He grabs the mails from the mailbox to flip through when he walked back, but then he stepped on a newspaper and picked it up. He looked at the front page and he started to smile as started to think of something.
"Hmm, maybe I'll take her to go on a trip someday." Timon thought.
Then he walks back inside and went to the kitchen where Pumbaa already put away the dishes. He looked through some junk mails and all that, but then there was a letter as he set down some junk mails at the table. Pumbaa took a glance at his friend.
"Hey, Pumbaa?"
"What's up?" Pumbaa asked.
"Do you know whose letter this is?" Timon curious.
Pumbaa took the letter from Timon and he read the words. Then he glanced back at his friend.
"I don't think it's for us, Timon. But I think this letter belongs to…. Mr. and Mrs…. Wu?" Pumbaa read.
"What?
Timon swiped the letter from Pumbaa and read the names. He just stood there when he's all confused. He's starting to wondering how this letter got here in the first place. Then he opens the envelope and slide out the letter when he read through the page as he read carefully.
Pumbaa looked over at the letter and read carefully as well. He can hear Timon's reading mumbling. Then he raised his eyebrows and shrunken his eye pupil. He slowly turned his head around at Pumbaa.
"Pumbaa?"
"What is it?"
"You don't think that this letter is for Marcy, right?" Timon stunned.
"I think so?" Pumbaa guessed.
He took a glanced at the letter. He was shocked and confused about the letter. He started to pondering why the letter was meant to be for Marcy. Why would someone send a letter to Marcy or her parents? Then suddenly, he heard Marcy spoke behind him.
"What are you reading?"
"AAHHH!" Timon yelped when he hides the letter behind his back as he turns around and see Marcy wearing her light green shirt with a frog on it and her short blue pants. Marcy stood there curiously at him. Timon sighed in relief.
"Oh, you startled me here, kid." Timon relief.
"I'm sorry." Marcy apologizes softly.
"Oh no! It's fine! Really!" Timon insisted.
"What's that you're holding?" Marcy curiously asked.
Timon started to get sweat when he's hiding the letter behind his back. He needed to act fast. He knew she's too young to understand about the letter. Instead, he decided to cover up as an excuse.
"Oh, this? It's nothing, really. So uh, why don't you run along and play with some toys? Because daddy needs to get himself ready." said Timon suggested.
"Mmmm…okay." said Marcy smiling.
She left the kitchen as she went to play with some toys. Pumbaa looked at Timon when noticed that he lied to her, but decided not to argue. Pumbaa also knew that Marcy was too young to understand until when the time is right.
"You didn't tell her about the letter, did you?" Pumbaa concerned.
"(sigh) Pumbaa, let's be honest with you. You know she's too young to understand. Even if I did…she'll probably never forgive me if I told her the truth." replied Timon.
"You did the right thing, Timon. For now, we're keeping a secret until the time is right when she gets older."
"Thanks, Pumbaa." Timon thanked him as he slips the letter back inside the envelope. He knew what needs to be done.
"There's one thing I have to do first. Just to make sure." said Timon.
He left the kitchen leaving Pumbaa behind and walk downstairs to the basement. Then he looked at the safe as he approached and typed the passcode to unlock it. When he heard the beep, he opens the door and staring at the music box.
He remembers what happened when he discovered something that is far more dangerous. He set the letter down next to the box, but before he closed it, he took one final look at the music and then he closed the door. Spin the wheel and locked up tight.
"Sorry pal, I can't risk revealing your secrets because it's too dangerous for each of us. Not when my daughter was around." said Timon talking to a box as he walked upstairs to get his clothes changed.
Meanwhile in Marcy's room, she's tidying up her toys at the tea table and reorganized her books. She was singing humming while she's cleaning. Marcy was now ready for Anne to come over along with her parents. She left her room when she was about to head downstairs, but then her father's door open when he already got dressed wearing his red polo shirt with blue jeans without his wearing gloves as he walked past her.
Marcy was curious at first when she noticed that the door was open. She took a glanced at the stairs where her adoptive father walked downstairs and glanced back at the door. Then she heard her father's voice.
"Can someone get my wallet? I must've left in my room again." Timon hollered.
Now it's her chance to look around at her father's room and then she hollered back.
"I'll get it!" Marcy called out.
"Thank you!" Timon hollered when thanking her.
Marcy walked into his room to find his wallet. She did been to his room once when he gives her a tour. She walked over to the nightstand where his alarm clock is and then she spotted her dads wallet. Before she picked up the wallet, but then she looked at the album that says "Timon and Pumbaa's Adventures".
She took a glance at the exit to make sure he didn't come upstairs. Then she took the album and looked at the front page. She smiled at first when she thought that they have some adventures before she met them.
Once Marcy opens the album, she dropped her smile into confused. She looked at the first pages of photos of Timon and Pumbaa as both meerkat and warthog. She was a all confused at first because she didn't even know that it was them. Her mind is starting to think about them.
Then she turned to the next page and see more photos of Timon and Pumbaa along with their friends and family. She looked at the photos of themselves along with a full-grown lion. Marcy must've recognized this lion as soon as her memory is coming back to her. She was too young to remember since she saw some movies back when she's at orphanage.
Then Marcy turned another page with more photos of Timon and Pumbaa in many locations like in Paris, Egypt, New York, Hollywood, and many other locations. She even looked at the photos when they're being chased by a dinosaur by using selfie.
Marcy starting to pondering why her dad and her uncle's name is on it. How come it didn't show her adoptive family on the photos unless there's something is going on.
Then she looked at the chest. She closed album book and set it down at the night stand. She gently took the chest off from the bed and looked inside that are some gemstones of each color. Then she heard her dad's calling startling her when she closed the chest.
"Marcy! You okay up there?" Timon hollered from downstairs.
Marcy quickly put the chest back quietly without making a sound. She totally forgot about her dad whenever he approached or calling out her name.
"Coming!" Marcy hollered back.
Then she picked up his wallet exited her dad's room. She ran downstairs to the kitchen where Timon is getting ready to cook lunch wearing his casual clothes while Pumbaa is setting up some ingredients for barbecue wearing his different type of clothes.
Marcy was staring at the them when they were ready to cook. She was nervous to tell them, but she has never been into trouble. Truly she was curious around the house right until now. Then Marcy decided that it's time to face the truth. She walked over to her dad and tucked his pants to get him attention.
"I found your wallet?" said Marcy.
He turned his head around and saw Marcy holding out his wallet.
"Oh, why thank you." Timon thanked her and put it in his back pocket.
Marcy really wanted to talk to him so badly, but she was a little nervous to tell him. But she sighed and smiled at him.
"Whatcha doin?" Marcy asked curious.
"Getting ready for lunch whenever they're hungry. I thought it might be okay to have homemade hamburgers for lunch." replied Timon.
"Okay, so…. can I ask you a question?"
"Sure, kid. Ask away." Timon answered while setting up some cheese and lettuce.
"I'm started to get nervous, but um…." Marcy paused her sentence.
Timon stopped and looked at Marcy playing with her fingers. He noticed the look back when they met each other. He bends his knee to lower his height and looking at her concern.
"What is it, sweetie?" Timon asked.
"Um…. when I looked into your room to find your wallet, I noticed that there was this book where you take pictures, but…." Marcy paused.
Timon raised his eyebrows a bit. Pumbaa turned himself around and looked at his niece. They started to get confused. They knew that she's nervous, but Marcy continues her honest.
"If your names on the front, how come it didn't show you on the photos?"
They started to notice what Marcy's been doing. They started to wondering how she looked through the albums. But they need to covered it up in order to keep themselves a secret.
"I don't know what you're talking about." said Timon kindly.
"Really? Then how come it says your name on it when I look through the photos. Do you have enough pets? Were you travel around the world? Were you were chased by a dinosaur? I thought they went extinct when it does even exist?" Marcy asked curiously.
Timon started to get sweat when he's nervous. He gives a glance at Pumbaa who's also nervous, but Pumbaa just shrugged saying what should we do. Then Timon glanced back at Marcy.
"Well, whatever you're reading, it's probably just some sort of art from the studios."
"Why are you all so sweaty? Are you two keeping a secret? Who is that lion that you're with? Who or what are you?" Marcy keeps asking.
Timon dropped his emotions when his face turned worried. The more Marcy asked, the more truth reveals. Pumbaa did the same thing. Marcy was now mixed with worrying and confused.
"Are you really…my family?" Marcy asked quietly.
They looked at each other's eyes worrying and then they looked at Marcy. Timon and Pumbaa really did love Marcy more than anything. Clearly, they were odd couple of roommates, but deep down they wanted to make her happy. And by then when more questions are asked, they knew what it needs to be done. There's no turning back now.
"(sigh) Marcy, I think it's time you should know the truth. The truth is…" Timon paused his sentence.
Marcy was waiting while listening. Timon give a glance at Pumbaa when his roommate nodded. Then he looked at Marcy as he closed his eyes.
"We're not really humans. We're animals."
Marcy blinked. Her eyes were sparkles a bit. Timon knew what's going to happen next, but decided to come clean in order to comfort her by placing his hands on her shoulders.
"I know that sounds scary, but I need you to listen to me very carefully. Pumbaa and I are basically not from here, but we are from the savannah called the Pride Lands. It's where all animals roamed freely ruled by a group of lions that are basically both king and queen. And this is where we live, surely, we originally once lived in the jungle, until this cub was actually a future king what we didn't know right until now and in the end, we became friends, no… we're like family." Timon explained.
"It's true, where we come from before we met you, there's something that you should know about magic when it comes with this." Pumba added when showing his red gemstone to Marcy while Timon showed his.
"What's that?" Marcy curious.
"This is our gemstones. We've discovered that these gemstones are from the temple that was lost in the jungle. We heard some legends that most humans turn themselves into animals while animals turn themselves into humans. For centuries, they lived together in peace until all of this has vanished. And today, is why we are here." Timon explained his story.
"Is this real?" Marcy asked.
"Yes, it's all real. If I transform myself into this, will you promise us not to be scared?" Timon asked softly.
Marcy nodded.
"Very good, now…..whatever you do, don't freak out." said Timon as he stood up.
Pumbaa walk slowly next to Timon. They're holding on their necklace as they rubbed it gently. Then suddenly, their bodies began to glow around them when the light shines itself while Marcy covered her eyes until the lights lowered down.
She uncovered her eyes and see what happens, but she was stunned when she gasp softly. She was staring at both Timon and Pumbaa as a meerkat and a warthog. They looked at Marcy when her heart is beating. She was in a mixed both surprisingly and shocked.
"Daddy…..is it really you?" Marcy asked softly.
They knew that she was scared a bit, but they smiled softly when trying to comfort her.
"Yes Marcy, it's me." Timon answered.
Then all of sudden, she started to smile and launched herself to hug the meerkat. Timon didn't expect to see Marcy when hugging him tight, but gently. Pumbaa had a same reaction as well.
"I knew it! You talked! My daddy is a meerkat!" Marcy smiled.
Then she looked at Pumbaa when launch into Pumbaa to hug her.
"And my uncle is a warthog!"
Pumbaa smiled while his tail is flapping. She can hear her adoptive dad struggling.
"Choking! Not breathing!" Timon cringed.
Marcy releases herself from Pumbaa and hold Timon as she staring at him giggled. He smiled nervously.
"So uh, are you really okay with this?" Timon awkwardly asked.
"Are you kidding? It's like a dream! I always knew that there was magic here." replied Marcy. "Why didn't you tell me before?"
"Well, technically we were gonna tell you when you get older, but I guess you kinda figured it out, huh?" Timon answered.
"Yeah, can't wait to tell my friends about this." said Marcy.
"Whoa! Time out, kid! Not so fast."
"What's wrong?" Marcy confused while setting him down gently.
"No offense, but I don't think you should tell your friends about this." said Timon.
"Why not?"
"Because it's a secret. We can't reveal ourselves to anyone, including your friends." Pumbaa explained to her.
"You mean I can't tell my friends?" Marcy asked sadly.
"It's probably for the best." Pumbaa answered.
Marcy looked down sadly. She was not allowed to tell her friends about her adoptive family's secrets. She was happy that her both dad and and uncle were animals, but she was sad that she has to keep them a secret from anyone including her friends. Timon cup his small hands on her face to comfort her as they looked each other's eyes.
"Hey, don't you worry. It's gonna be okay. We'll always be here for you, no matter what." said Timon.
"I'll tell you what, when the time is right, we'll be ready." Pumbaa added.
"Promised?" Marcy asked.
"We promise." said Pumbaa.
"So, is it still okay that I can call you daddy?" Marcy curious.
"Of course, you can." Timon answered.
Marcy went to hug both Timon and Pumbaa altogether smiling. They were glad that she's not afraid after all. Then suddenly, they heard a doorbell rang.
"Uh, Pumbaa? What time is it?" Timon asked.
"I'll go take a look." said Pumbaa.
He walked over from the kitchen to the front door to look through an eye view on the door. Pumbaa shrunken his eyes when he gasps. He ran backed to the kitchen to warn them.
"It's Anne and her parents! They're here!" Pumbaa exclaimed.
Both Timon and Marcy were shocked. They totally forgot about the whole plan. He really needed to revert him and Pumbaa back into humans.
"Oh, my goodness! What were we thinking?!" Timon frantic.
They quickly rubbed their necklace until it glows around them as they reverted back into humans. Timon is checking himself to see he's all good. Same goes for Pumbaa as well.
"How do I look?" Timon asked.
"All good." Pumbaa thumbs up.
"Good. Just wanted to make sure."
They walked from the kitchen to the front door. He looked down at Marcy to reminded her.
"Alright Marcy, remember. This our secret, so don't tell anyone. You promise?"
"I promise." said Marcy
"That's my girl." Timon smiled.
Then he opens the door where it shows Anne now wearing her yellow shirt and blue shorts with her parents carrying khao niew bing, a traditional Thai snack made up of rice and coconut milk on the basket.
"Hey, fellas!" Timon smiled.
"สวัสดีทำไม" (Why hello.) Mrs. Boonchuy greeted in Thai.
"How are you this morning?" Mr. Boonchuy asked kindly.
"We're doing great. Come on in." said Timon.
Anne and her parents went through the door while Timon closed the door. Anne went to hug Marcy when they see each other again.
"Anne! You made it!" Marcy cheered.
"Of course, I'm here, Mar-Mar." Anne giggled.
"So glad that you folks made it." Timon thanked Anne's parents.
"Thank you. We brought you something that was delicious." said Mrs. Boonchuy showing to Marcy's adoptive father.
"What is that?" Pumbaa asked.
"It's khao niew bing, a traditional Thai snack made up of rice and coconut milk. We thought that we could share our traditions to you." Mrs. Boonchuy explained.
"Ah, sounds delicious. I'll just set it at the table." said Timon taking gently the basket from Anne's mother.
"Why, thank you." Mrs. Boonchuy thanked him.
"So, what are we having for lunch?" Mr. Boonchuy asked.
"We're making hamburgers. It comes with ham, cheese, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, and extra pickles." Pumbaa answered.
"Mmm, looks delicious." said Mr. Boonchuy.
"Why thanks, I'll go start cooking." said Pumbaa.
He went to the kitchen to start cooking when he picked up some patties and walked over to the patio to turn on the barbecue.
"C'mon Anne, let me show you in my room." Marcy offered.
"Cool! This I gotta see." Anne smiled.
Both girls ran upstairs cheerfully. Anne's parents were chuckled at their daughter when she ran upstairs with Marcy.
"Nice place you got here." said Mr. Boonchuy.
"Oh, this? Well, we just moved here when we bought all of this stuff." said Timon.
"You two worked very hard to get this place cleaned up." said Mrs. Boonchuy.
"It sure is."
Suddenly, they heard a doorbell. Three adults were staring at the door. They didn't expect to have a company right about now. Timon went answered the door as he opened. He looked out at the view and then he looked down, but what he didn't expect to that there was a girl with blonde hair. She was smiling at him.
"Hi, remember me?"
"Oh yeah, I know you." said Timon recognized the girl. "You're Sasha, right? Boy, Marcy told me all about you."
"That's right."
"So uh, what brings you here?" Timon asked kindly.
"Is Anne and Marcy around? I figured that you lived here." Sasha replied.
"Well, come on in. Make yourself comfortable." said Timon approval.
"Thanks mister." Sasha thanked him.
"No problem."
Timon allow Sasha to enter the door as he closes the door behind her. Sasha took a glanced at Anne's parents.
"Hi Mr. and Mrs. Boonchuy." Sasha greeted them.
"Hello, Sasha." Mrs. Boonchuy greeted back.
"How are your parents?" Mr. Boonchuy asked.
"They seemed okay. I ask them if I can come over and they said yes."
"Well, that's nice. Anne and Marcy are upstairs in her room."
"Thanks."
Sasha thanked them as she ran upstairs to see her friends. Anne's parents looked at Timon smiling.
"So, shall I give you a tour?" Timon offered.
"Absolutely." replied Mrs. Boonchuy.
Sasha ran upstairs to Marcy room and entered to see Anne and Marcy while playing with some toys.
"Anne! Marcy!" Sasha smiled.
Both Anne and Marcy stopped playing when looked at Sasha and smiled at her.
"Sasha!"
The girls ran to hug Sasha as they giggled.
"I'm so glad to you two." said Sasha.
"What are you doing here?" Marcy smiled.
"Thought I could stop by to see Anne, but I noticed that her parents are here." Sasha answered. "Sorry that I didn't see you girls for three days."
"It's okay, and guess what? I'm adopted!" Marcy claims it.
"Really? That is cool!"
"Yeah, she lives with her dad and her uncle now." Anne added.
"Uncle?" Sasha curious.
"Yeah, Uncle Pumbaa. He's cooking barbecue for hamburgers." Marcy answered.
"Mmm, yummy."
"Uh huh, c'mon! Let's play together!"
"Yeah!"
Anne, Sasha, and Marcy are resuming their playtime in Marcy's room when they all play together. Marcy was happy to see Anne and Sasha in one place while her dad and her uncle are preparing lunch with Anne's parents. She's glad that she accepted to have Timon and Pumbaa to be part of her family as long as their secret is saved with her so that their reputation will remain settled.
