Chapter 39: A Mother's Love

Marcy is lying on her bed, crying against her pillow. She couldn't believe that Mrs. Padilla, the one who raised her for over five years before she was adopted. How could she ever do this her like hiding her secrets. She was so mad at her for not telling her the truth, but she really loved her. The way she looked up to her like her godmother.

She's been crying for six minutes and she doesn't care if anyone would come in to apologize for keeping secrets. What else would she be mad at? At least she wasn't even mad at her former roommate or her adopted family. But then, she heard a gently knock on her door and then she heard her brother's voice.

"Marcy?" Eddie calls through the door.

"Go away!" Marcy cried to her pillow.

"It's your big brother. I need to talk to you."

She was about to argue, but she knew that she couldn't stay mad at him. She took a glance at the door with her tears flowing.

"Come in."

She turns her face back at the pillow before Eddie opens the door. He looked at his sister that's been crying while hiccupping through her pillow. He felt like it was his own fault that he brought them here, but he didn't know if they could talk to her soon.

Eddie walks closer to her by sitting on her bed. He reaches his left arm to give comfort her by rubbing on her back. He has never seen his sister's crying at a time like this. He really wanted to help her and make her feel better before he speaks.

"Marcy, are you okay?" Eddie asked softly.

"No." Marcy whimpered.

"Do you want to talk about it?"

"No."

"(sigh) I know it hurts, but I can't help you if you talk to me."

Eddie is waiting for her to respond. Then she peeked from her pillow back at him who grew softly. She turns around with her tears flowing while she still crying.

"She lied to me." said Marcy while whimpering.

"No, that's not true."

"I trusted her! I look up to her! S-she's like a godmother to me, but w-why didn't she tell me in the first place?!" Marcy cried.

"She was just trying to protect you." replied Eddie calmly.

"How?! I've been living a lie!"

"Marcy, look at me." said Eddie.

She looked at him with tears flowing. Eddie is giving her an apology look. She wanted to argue, but she couldn't do it. She lets him speak calmly.

"I need you you to take a three deep breathe. Slowly."

Marcy did what he told him is to take a three deep. She exhales and breathe slowly, then she did it again, and she took her final breathe until she stops crying. She wiped her tears with her knuckles as she sat up, hugging her pillow.

"Better?"

Marcy nodded sadly.

"Okay, I know what it's like when it hurts. When I was eight after I discovered that you're with your dad, I was a bit upset that my grandparents kept me from their secret."

"Y-you do?" Marcy asked softly.

"Mmm hmm. They told me that our parents are the reasons why they separate us is to protect us. To keep us safe. I was clearly at mad them, but I forgive them." replied Eddie.

"Why did they separate us?" Marcy asked sadly.

"(sigh) If I know the truth, I want an answer."

"Do you really love them?"

He took a glance at Marcy's old photo of her family at the nightstand and then he looked back Marcy that she is no longer crying, but her sad look. He smiled softly.

"I do." replied Eddie softly.

"Do you miss them?"

He nodded.

"They loved me, Marcy. They loved you, too. Our parents will never abandon us. They wanted us to be happy like the way we used to be."

"Do you mean it?"

"Of course. So, what do you say if we can head back downstairs and go apologize to them."

Marcy hasn't thought about it. She was going to say no, but can she stay mad at them forever? Instead, she nodded sadly.

"Okay, come here."

He gave her a warm hug a bit until she hugged him back.

"You feeling better?"

"Mmm hmm." Marcy nodded.

"Alright, let's head back downstairs."

He got off from the bed first, then Marcy got off second after putting down her pillow, and then she walks off from her room to walk downstairs leaving Eddie behind. There's one thing he needs to do first before he went to look for something.

Marcy came back downstairs, but stops when she approaches the kitchen where she sees Tatiana and Pumbaa that are washing their dishes. She must've thought that they've already finished their dinner.

Then she went back outside only to see Bailey, Emanual, and their father helping clearing the table by putting away their food while Timon is having his conversation with Mrs. Padilla. Marcy was nervous to tell them, but she breathes to calm herself down.

As she walks by, Bailey noticed this while carrying an empty bowl after her brother and father pass by carrying their dishes. She looks at the Taiwan girl softly with her worried look.

"Hey, you okay girl?" Bailey asked softly.

"I'm fine. Sorry that I yelled at your mother." Marcy apologizes.

"It's alright. You didn't mean for this to happen."

"I know. It's just... (sigh) I wish she would've told me earlier."

"Hey, she's not the only one who knows the truth."

"What do you mean?"

"I was there."

Marcy blinked her eyes.

"When I was four years old, I was there when your mother gave you away to protect you. I was to young to understand until when I get older, my mother told me everything why you came here in the first place. I loved you, like a sister. I stood up with you against these bullies. I will always be here with you. No matter what."

Marcy smiles a bit softly at her. She knew her well. Bailey is the only friend that she can trust.

"Thank you, Bailey." Marcy thanked her.

"You're welcome. I'll give you three sometime alone." replied Bailey before she went back inside.

Marcy turns her head at her father talking to her former caretaker. She walks closer to them when they looked at her. She looked down shamefully, afraid that she might get scolded, but instead she heard her father's soothing.

"Are you okay, pumpkin?" Timon asked softly.

"Mmm hmm." Marcy nodded.

"Marcy, I... I am so sorry for keeping you a secret." Mrs. Padilla apologize.

Marcy looked up at her with a sad look before Mrs. Padilla continues.

"I shouldn't have kept you a secret in the first place so that you won't be upset about. I loved your parents, Marcy. I was worried because I loved you. I've gained my trust to your future before your adoption. Your father apologizes for all this and I would to like apologize for everything. If you don't want to talk to me, that is alright."

"You're right, Mrs. Padilla. I do want to apologize. I really do. I have no right to be upset with you. I was just... I don't know what else to say. I really am sorry. For everything." said Marcy.

Mrs. Padilla took a glance at Timon before she looked back at her. She wrapped her arms around the girl warmly, rubbing her head gently.

"There, there. You are forgiving." said Mrs. Padilla softly.

Marcy is feeling better. For now. Timon smiles at them softly. Just then when Eddie arrived, he stops for a moment when he sees his sister is hugging her caretaker. He smiles warmly at them. He knew that his sister could never stay mad at them. Eddie doesn't want to interrupt, but he needs to tell them something important.

"Excuse me?"

They let go of their embrace and looked at him standing.

"Sorry to interrupt, but I wanted to show you something."

"What is it?" Marcy asked.

"It's from our mom."

Marcy reacts softly. It only took minutes when they're done cleaning while Eddie set up his laptop to connect the TV. Then he inserts the memory card that he was given by his grandparents, and then clicks on the file.

All of the adults are sitting on the couch while Pumbaa sits on the recliner chair. Both Bailey and Emanual are standing right next to their parents that were sitting on the couch. Marcy is the only one standing right in front of the TV.

"Alright, it won't take too long until I figured this out." said Eddie.

"Are you sure you got this?" Marcy asked.

"Of course, I can. It works every time. Trust me."

Then suddenly, it shows computer desktop on the flat TV screen. They're very impressed. He moved the mousepad to look through the file until he found something. When he clicks it two times, the video playlist pops up when it's loading until it shows a woman on screen.

Eddie raises his eyes a bit as it turns out that it was their mother on the TV screen. Bailey raises her hand on her chest. Timon and Tatiana held their hands. Same goes to the girl's parents. All that's left was Marcy that react this way.

"Mom?" Marcy gasp softly.

"Hello, children. If you're watching this when you get older, there's something you should know what is going on with our family's name. The reasons why I record this is to let you know that your father and I tried to get away as soon as possible. We're being hunted by some men because your father has something that belongs to the heart of the jungle.

He discovered the lost city of the temple while taking on a trek with some men, but then he was betrayed and got away safely. He came to warn me that we should leave this country and find a hiding place somewhere safe. We were planning to move out to Los Angeles after your father went for an interview, but it turns out that it was all a trap.

He knew this would happen as he escaped before they will do anything to get what they want. He called me that they're going after me, but they're also going after you. I was in panic and told him to take you to meet up with my parents, but he couldn't take the risk for bringing you all together.

Eddie, my brave little boy, are the only one who will do anything to protect your sister. I would've picked you up and bring here to keep your sister safe, but I couldn't take the risk of going back out there when there's criminals on the loose and I have no choice, but to separate you to keep you safe with my parents.

Marcy, my little angel, are the cutest little caterpillar I've ever raised you. I really wanted to take you back to my parents, but I was so scared if they were going to hurt you or anything ever bad happens to you. (sadly sniff) I was so scared that I would loose you. (heavily breathe) I swear to you by my oath, when you grow up, I want you to stay strong and be brave. I will always be there for you. No matter what.

(heavily shake) I am so sorry for not telling you the truth. You were too young to understand this, but it's the only way to give you this message. When this is over, I will see you again soon. I love you... more than anything. Goodbye, my darlings. I loved you."

While the video plays, Marcy tears started to shed softly until the video ends. She covers her mouth by her hands to prevent herself crying, fell to her knees on the floor. Eddie shed his smallest tears that he couldn't believe all this time that his mother sends a message to both of them.

Everyone else in this room were shocked. Timon cling on to Tatiana's hands as she cries softly. Pumbaa picks up his tissues as he blows his nose. Mrs. Padilla knew her too since the last time she saw her. Her husband is comforting her as he cling on to his wife hands while she shed her small tears. Bailey almost cried a bit, but her little brother wrapped his arms around her since he's the only boy that stay strong.

Eddie knelt down to comfort her. She looked up at her brother's eyes with tears before she launches into her brothers, wrapping her arms around him crying. Eddie wrapped his arms around her too gently.

"Oh, Eddie." Marcy sobbed softly.

"I know." Eddie whispered.

They've been hugging together for a while as the girl cries into her brother's shoulder. Not all people have their best day ever, but when it comes tragedy meaning that their day turns sadder. From best day ever to saddest day ever.

Few hours later, Bailey and her family have already left after they say goodbye to her friends. The whole family has switched their pajamas on and getting ready for bed. Now we see Marcy wearing her pj's, sitting on her bed fiddling with her stuff caterpillar. Eddie comes in while wearing his pajamas checking on his little sister.

"Marcy?"

She looked at him with a bit soft face.

"Are you feeling okay?"

She nodded. He walks over to sit next to her, but he noticed that she's holding to her stuffed caterpillar toy. He grew smile a bit.

"You still have that caterpillar toy?"

"Wormy? Oh, yeah. Bailey gave it to me for my birthday gift. It was a gift of friendship."

"Really?"

"Yeah, we were like sisters."

He reaches his arm around her shoulder. She took a glance at him warmly.

"Hey, it's gonna be okay." said Eddie.

"At least we still have each other." replied Marcy.

"Yeah, but we're not alone. You still have your adopted dad, your uncle, and you have so many friends."

"Thanks Eddie, but I don't think I should tell them about this."

"Don't worry, I'll be right with you when we go through this together."

"You think so?"

"I'm sure of it. Tomorrow will be better. I promised you."

Eddie gently nuzzles his sisters' nose as she smiles a bit.

"Love you, big brother."

"I love you too, little sister."

He let go of her as he got off from her bed as he turns off the light while Marcy tucked herself in. He looked back at her before she closed her eyes a bit. She uses her stuff caterpillar to wave its little hand waving at Eddie. He chuckles a bit.

"Goodnight." said Marcy whispering.

"Sweet dreams." replied Eddie.

He close the door gently. He turns around until he sees Timon wearing his pajamas that's been standing there this whole time while crossing his arm.

"Oh, pops."

"Hey, uh... I see that you were trying to make Marcy better." said Timon.

"Yeah, she's all better now."

"You're a good kid, son. She's looking up to you like the way she's looking up to me."

"Really? It's sounds like we got a lot of common. Huh?"

"Yeah, I'm really glad that you support her when she needs the most."

"Thanks, pops. Well, goodnight." said Eddie before he went back to his room.

"Sleep tight." replied Timon.

"Don't let the bed bugs bite."

Timon froze before Eddie close the door. He started to think where it might hit him, but he shrugged it off before heading back to his master bedroom. Just then, Pumbaa opens the door to look both ways curiously.

"Hmm. I could've sworn I had that tingly before. Oh, well. Goodnight."

Pumbaa closed the door gently. We cut to the master bedroom where Tatiana is looking at her phone that she just got trying to figured out how to use some apps, but Timon already showed this to her like how to play apps or setting up her contacts.

"So, how'd it go?" Tatiana asked.

"Marcy's feeling better now. Eddie already took care of it." Timon answered.

"That's nice."

"So, any contacts you set up?" Timon asked.

"You, Pumbaa, Marcy, and Eddie."

"The Boonchuy Family?"

"To be announced."

"Even our cartoon friends?"

"Maybe."

The man in disguise tucked himself into bed next to his girlfriend. She set her phone down to charge it and looked at him softly.

"What's the matter?" Tatiana asked softly

"It's the kids that I'm worried about." Timon answered softly.

"About what?"

"After we adopt her, I received that letter from her parents."

"Really?"

"Yeah, when I looked at it, there's somethings crazy is going on, but... how am I going to tell them?"

"Don't worry. We'll talk to them when the time is right." said Tatiana.

"Are you sure?"

"I'm positive."

"(sigh) Maybe you're right. Let's get some sleep."

"Goodnight."

They kiss their lips before they turned off the light. She sleeps on the left side of the bed while he sleeps the right of the bed. A perfect match where they sleep together peacefully. Timon couldn't help but thinking about them. How was he going to tell them when the time is right? He shook off his thought before he drifted into sleep.

Meanwhile at the warehouse, Xuan is sitting on the desk reading a book about the legend of the lost city. He flips the pages where it shows some figures that carries something like gems that can turn into animals. Just then, when he heard a ringtone, he pulled out his phone and answered it.

"Hello?"

"Good evening, Xuan."

It was that voice that he recognizes.

"Sir! I was about to report you."

"That won't be unnecessary. I've received this package that you delivered to me."

"Yes, you see, this man has fail to delivered his money to me. Every time that he failed all because he was too stupid to realize that he lost court against that kid who befriends with a girl."

"Then what about the girl?"

"Her? Oh, that's not all. She's with her brother."

"Her brother?"

"Yes. The boy who's studying on Tai Kwan Do. The one I was banished because of him."

"Are you certain?"

"I'm sure of it."

"Well then, perhaps he could be very useful. Bring them to me. Alive and unspoiled."

"Yes sir. I will not fail."

Xuan hang up the phone and set it down on his desk. He was thinking that this boy he was referring to who got himself into trouble. He took a glance at the page of legends before he started to grin evilly as he chuckles.

"Oh, Eddie. You shouldn't have come this far to be with your sister, but now I got right where I want you. As soon as I disposed of you for what you have done, I will find the temple for my master, and then I'll be..."

He flip the page to see that it looks like some figures bowing to the lion up in the sky like the prophecy before he finish his sentence.

"Like a god."

Who was this man on the phone? What does this have to do with the Wu's Family? The questions is... let's find out. Stay tuned for the next chapter!
