Chapter 44: Karaoke Night
The next day in the afternoon, Marcy is showing her family album to Eddie and Tatiana while Timon and Pumbaa are sitting on the couch, watching as the girl is showing some photos from each page. Eddie was smiling that Marcy has been through over eight years.
"And there's me when I was eating ice cream with my friends. And then there's Ethan giving me flowers at the playground." said Marcy showing the photo of herself as five year old while Ethan gave her flower.
"Aw, such a sweet little boy." Tatiana cooed at the photo.
"Is this why he had a crush on you?" Eddie asked curious.
"Well, in occasionally, yes." Marcy answered before turning the page.
"Oh, look! Here's Marcy riding on baby Triceratops while I take pictures." Timon noticed.
"Wait, you ride on a baby dinosaur?" Eddie raised his eyebrows.
"It was pretty fun, but sadly the Cretaceous Park was closed when there are some dinosaurs on the loose." replied Marcy.
"Was it a hybrid that tries to eat people?"
"Yeah, pretty much."
"I remember when I almost dropped my phone. Remember when you strangle a Pteranodon?" Pumbaa asked.
"Yeah, but he nearly gave Marcy a heart attack. She was traumatized!" replied Timon.
"I was only 9 years old." Marcy remarked.
"Okay? This is getting out of hand." Eddie muttered.
"I thought dinosaurs went extinct?" Tatiana confused.
"Tell that to Pines." replied Timon.
"Wait, why is there a picture of you taking bubble bath with Anne?" Eddie asked when chuckled.
It shows a photo of five years old Marcy and Anne are covered with bubbles from a bathtub. Tatiana giggles a bit when she thinks it's too cute, but for Marcy, however was blushing a bit while her older brother laughs.
"It's so cute when you have beard!" Eddie laugh.
"Eddie, you're embarrassing me!" Marcy whined.
"Aw, man! Remember you and I went to take a bath together when you're a baby?"
"I don't think I have."
"Well, I have some pictures that I've been saving before I moved here."
"Really?" Pumbaa asked.
"You have photos of our own parents?!" Marcy gasped.
"Sure do." Eddie answered.
He picked up a file envelope to pull out some photos and showed this to Marcy as she flips through, but looked smile softly that she started to remember about her cherish memory with her brother when they were so little.
"Is that me?" asked Marcy softly.
"Yes, that was you. Our parents took their pictures back when we used to be. There's you after you were born while wrapped up around your blanket with our mom." Eddie answered.
The Taiwan girl felt her heart warmed and smile softly at the photo of herself as a baby wrapped around her green blanket that's been held by her own mother from the hospital. She flips through some photos of her with her older brother.
Marcy could never imagine how beautiful is her memories from the past. As she looked through some old photos until she flipped through the last one where it shows a photo of her with Eddie as a toddler along with her parents and her grandparents.
Eddie rests his arm around her shoulder smiling. Tatiana felt her heart warmed as well, knowing that these photos were so precious. Timon and Pumbaa were warmly smiles at a time like this.
"There's our parents... and our grandparents." said Marcy softly.
"That's right. We went to the temple to honor our ancestors." replied Eddie.
"Really?"
"Yeah, when we watch Mulan last night, it reminds me how we used to have our ancestors. Our grandparents are telling me a story how our ancestors had encounter with a dragon. Legend says that the dragon has guided them to the sacred temple to heal the sickness for those who were worthy and pure heart."
"Wow."
"Huh. Guess dragons weren't so bad after all." Timon remarked.
"Not all dragons are bad, Timon." said Pumbaa.
"Yeah, I know that, but what are the difference between good or bad dragons?"
"Slaying dragon is from the west, but from the east is where our ancestors believe that the dragon can be their guidance and wisdom." Marcy explained the difference.
"Man, you're smart." Eddie smirked.
"Why, thank you."
Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Timon got off from the couch to answer the door until it shows that Ethan was standing in front of the door as the human in disguise was surprise for all of sudden.
"Hello, sir. Is Marcy here?" Ethan asked.
Timon was about to reply, but Marcy pops up smiling.
"Ethan! You're here!" Marcy chimes.
"Hi, Marcy. Um... may I come in?"
"Sure! C'mon in."
Ethan nodded as he steps inside while passing by Timon before he closing the door. Marcy escort Ethan to the living room where the three of them are sitting.
"Hey, guys. Look who came to visit?" said Marcy.
"Hi everybody." Ethan waved his hand.
"Hey, Ethan." Eddie greeted.
"How's your day going?" Pumbaa asked.
"It was going great." Ethan answered.
"So, what brings you here?" Marcy asked.
"Um... I was wondering if you would like to go out for a karaoke party tonight?"
"Really?!"
"Yeah, Sasha invited us to her house while her mom is on her business trip."
"Eddie! There's gonna be a karaoke night at Sasha's house!"
"Really? That sounds like fun." replied Eddie.
"(gasp) We can ask Bailey if she can come over!" Marcy suggested.
"Oooh! Sounds like you're excited." said Tatiana.
"I sure am! I've been over at Anne or Sasha's house for years. Friends are the most important that supports each other."
"Really? Like your friends dragged you out of school just to skip class?" Timon guessed.
"Wait, what?" Eddie was confused.
"Dad, it wasn't like that." Marcy denied.
"Well, you're lucky that Pumbaa was there all the time just to keep you out of trouble." said Timon.
Marcy dropped her smile a bit. Eddie and Tatiana took a glance at each other as they both shrugged. They have no idea how this happened.
"Dad, I know that you don't want me to get enough trouble, but my birthday is coming next month and I'll be 13. I'm not little girl anymore." said Marcy.
"I know sweetie, but don't you remember the last time that you and your friends ditch the theater and have partying on the roof before Anne's mom ground her for a month?" Timon asked with concerned look.
Marcy remembers that incident. She rubbed her left arm shamefully.
"Yeah. It was kind of my fault when Anne took the blame." replied Marcy quietly.
"Look, kid. You have never been into trouble from your entire life. I don't want to ground you too, but their parents think that I was going to soft on you. Just because you're too innocent, but that doesn't mean that you're in big trouble." said Timon.
"So, does this mean I can't go to Sasha's party?" Marcy asked softly.
"You can, but be sure to come straight home tonight by eight o'clock. You got school tomorrow ahead of you."
"Thanks, dad."
"Of course, sweetie."
Marcy gives him a quick hug before she took a glance at Eddie smiling.
"You coming or what?"
"Sure. I've always wanted go out. I'll go ahead and ask Bailey that she can come." said Eddie before he give her a call.
"Sweet! I'll get my stuff ready."
"Right behind you."
Eddie got off the couch and race upstairs with Marcy to get their things ready leaving the adults and Ethan behind. Timon took a glance at Ethan who was standing.
"So, how's your day been going?" Timon asked.
"Trying to do better." Ethan answered.
"Uh huh. Now, before you go, I just wanted to let you know that I'm taking serious."
"W-with what?" Ethan asked.
"Look, you're a nice guy. I know how much you liked her like I do, but you got to promise me for one thing."
Ethan raises his eyebrow a bit waiting for him to say whenever he disapproves or not before he finishes his sentence by smiling.
"You treat her nice and have fun."
Ethan blinked his eyes twice.
"What? Do you really think that I didn't notice that you're dating my daughter? I know that you're being friends with Marcy since kindergarten."
"So, you're not mad?"
"Of course not! Your parents told me that you took her to lunch, then the arcade, and brought her back home here before Eddie arrives." replied Timon.
"Oh, thank you."
"You're welcome."
Pumbaa and Tatiana looked at each other smiling as their friend finally accept that Marcy can go hangout with Ethan as long as she comes back home before school starts tomorrow. Ethan was feeling much better now, despite the fact that he's no longer feeling nervous around her family. He should be thanked his parents when he gets home. Suddenly, Marcy slides down the staircase first carrying her backpack while Eddie follows behind as he walks downstairs. Timon noticed that they're ready to go.
"Okay, we're all set." said Marcy.
"You got what you need?" Timon asked.
"Yep. I'm bringing my game switch, books to read, Creatures & Cavern..."
"Wait, you play this game?" Eddie asked.
"Yeah, it's like Dungeons & Dragons, but different." Marcy answered.
"Dude, I played that game too!"
"Really?!" Marcy gasps.
"Get out!" Ethan disbelief.
"Oh yeah. Last week, I am the game master of D&D group. You should see the look on people's face." Eddie smirked.
"Oh my gosh! I have so many questions!" Marcy showing her eyes sparkles like anime.
"Alright, you two. You don't want to keep your friends waiting." said Timon cutting off.
"Right. Let's get going."
"Got it." replied Eddie.
When the oldest brother opens the door, they go outside and walk straight to their car while Marcy gave her adoptive dad a quick hug before she leaves.
"Love you, dad." said Marcy.
"I love you too, Marbles." replied Timon before he gives her a kiss on her forehead.
"Bye, dad! Bye, mom! Bye, Uncle Pumbaa!" Marcy waved before entering the truck.
"Bye, kids! Have fun!" Tatiana hollers.
"And remember, be back by eight o'clock!" said Timon as of reminder.
"We will!" replied Marcy.
"See you later!" Eddie added.
"Bye, Mr. Berkowitz!" Ethan waved.
Eddie drove his truck away along with Marcy and Ethan until they left. As the adults went to back to the house, nobody took noticed when they're being watch by this man who's sitting in his car, holding up the old cellphone to contact his boss until he heard a voice.
"Yeah."
"I got eyes on the girl. She's with her brother and some kid that just the love house."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I think they're going over to the party."
"Don't lose them. Make sure no one sees you."
"Understood."
He hangs up the phone and drove off to pursue them very quietly.
Later on, they have arrived at Sasha's house when Eddie parked the truck. They got out from the truck and walk towards to the front door. When Marcy rang the doorbell, Sasha opens the door smiling that they just arrive.
"Hey, girlfriend! Good to see you!" Sasha chimes.
"Hi, Sash!" Marcy greeted.
As both girls gave each other a quick hug, she looked at both Eddie and Ethan standing.
"Hey, handsome. Looking good." Sasha teased Eddie.
"Very funny." Eddie chuckled.
"C'mon in. We were just getting this stuff ready for karaoke night.
All three of them walk through the door before Sasha closes it. We cut inside where Anne and Darrel is setting up the buffet for snacks until Sasha approach.
"Hey, nerds! Look who came to swing by?"
Both kids turn their head at their friends smiling.
"Hey, guys!" said Anne.
"Hi, Anna-Banana!" Marcy greeted.
"What's up, Darrel." said Eddie.
"Hey, guys. How's it going?" Darrel asked.
"Nothing much. Just came over for karaoke night."
"What time will it start?" Ethan asked.
"Like around five in a evening. You guys are here early just in time for prepare." Sasha answered.
"While we're waiting, who wants to play Creatures and Cavern with me?" Marcy offered her friends to play.
"You just read my mind." replied Darrel.
"I'm in." Ethan added.
"Count me in, too." Eddie added.
"Great! I'll go set up at the table. C'mon!" said Marcy.
She walks to the kitchen table to setup her gameboard while the rest of the boys taking their seats leaving Anne and Sasha behind as both girls shook their head gently. During that time, Marcy takes the lead while her friends are tagged along to play until the party starts. They have their drinks and snacks at the table.
Once she rolls her dice, she moves her character to pretend like she fends off the goblins while picking up her card. She took a nod to her dungeon's buddy before Darrel takes turn. And then later, it's Eddie's turn when he picked up the dice and rolls it until it lands that leads four steps. They're really impressed at Eddie's moves.
"Whoa!" Ethan amazed.
"How did you do that?" Darrel asked with amazed.
"I'm a fast learner and ten times better than you." Eddie answered with his smirk looks.
"Oh, it's on!" replied Marcy.
Just then, when they heard the doorbell rang. Sasha walked over to the door and answered it which it turns out that Bailey was standing there.
"Hey, Sasha." Bailey greeted.
"Oh, hey! Are you here for the party?" Sasha asked.
"Yes, I am." Bailey answered.
"Well, come on in."
Sasha allows Bailey to enter, and then she went to the kitchen to see her friends playing Creatures and Cavern, until Marcy turns her head at her former roommate as the girl smiles.
"Bailey!" Marcy chimes.
"Hi, guys." Bailey greeted.
"Hey, what's up?" Ethan asked.
"Glad you made it." Eddie added.
"Thanks. It's the least I can do is to come over to join the party." said Bailey.
Anne and Sasha approach holding their soda can.
"Alright, gang. We're gonna have the best karaoke night ever!" said Sasha.
"Let's get this party started!" said Anne raising her soda can.
"Yeah!" Everyone cheers before raising their cups.
Many hours have passed when the party starts. Everyone has been invited like around ages in between kids and teenagers to celebrate karaoke night. Most of their friends has arrived, especially KJ, Molly Jo, and Ivan, but he brought his sister, Nikki to join the party. It's a really good thing that he asks his parents' permission before he left.
At the DJ booth was taken over by their friend, Max Noceda who was hosting the party behind the DJ booth to let everyone pick their favorite song to sing along. KJ, Molly Jo, Nikki and Sandie are in the living room playing video games while their friends are watching to see who wins. Marcy and her friends resume playing their Cavern & Creatures along with KJ while everyone in this room is watching as they admired to their favorite board game.
Two other boys, none other than Jake Zoobrawd and Joshua Escobar as they arm wrestled at the table as most party goers had witnessed. Joshua was struggling to keep up, but his left arm was pushed down by Jake's prosthetic arm that are mechanical until he slammed down at the table. Everyone cheers when Jake wins. Anne and Sasha are singing together for karaoke as they sing it out loud to their friends.
I come home, in the mornin' light
My mother says "When you gonna live your life right?"
Oh momma dear, we're not the fortunate ones
And girls, they wanna have fun
Oh girls just wanna have fun...
The phone rings, in the middle of the night
My father yells "What you gonna do with your life?"
Oh daddy dear, you know you're still number one
But girls they wanna have fun
Oh girls just wanna have
That's all they really want
Some fun
When the workin' day is done
Oh girls, they wanna have fun
Ho hoo girls just wanna have fun
Wanna have fun
Girls
Wanna have
Everyone was enjoying their party and dancing. Eddie and Bailey were standing there and watching their friends singing. He took a glance at her for a moment, just to start thinking that if he could offer her a dance. Bailey noticed when she looked at him curious.
"Would you like to dance?" Eddie asked kindly.
She looked at his hand offering. She smiles warmly at him.
"Sure." Bailey answered.
And so, they started to dance while listening to the music. It seems that the two of them had never been to dance like this before, but it's different. Eddie spins her around and twirling as the teenage girl laughs with joy. Eddie smiles that he enjoys it. As they continued to dance until they cling on closer to their face, looked closer as he can see her blue eyes.
"I like your pretty eyes." said Eddie.
"Oh, thank you." Bailey blushed a bit when she thanked him.
Everyone is applauding when the music ends before Sasha whispers to Max just to make an announcement.
"Alright, folks. Up next, we have one our friend, Marcy who likes to volunteer for our next songs!"
Marcy noticed when she set the book down, realized that it's her turn.
"Oh, shoot! I'm next! Save some for me!" said Marcy.
"Will do." replied Darrel.
Marcy left the table from her friends as she went to the other side of the house as she step up by Max at the DJ booth, but she did a little trip over by the wire and then she got back her balanced up.
"Oopsie! I'm okay." said Marcy.
She can hear some laugh a bit, but nobody could blame her how she's always very clumsy. When it hits her, she decides that she could pick her own song and start to whisper at Max before he nodded. Once he gave his microphone to her, she turns attention to her audience.
"Okay, party goers! I'm gonna sing a song that I based upon myself to prove that I'm gonna be okay. Que the music!"
Max plays the music when it starts by the ukulele sound as the Taiwan girl tapped her foot before she started to sing.
(Get Back Up Again - Marcy Wu)
Looking up at a sunny sky,
so shiny and blue and there's a butterfly
Well, isn't that a super fantastic sign
It's gonna be a fantastic day
Such marvelousness
It's gonna bring, got a pocket full of songs that I'm gonna sing
And I'm ready to take on anything
Hooray!
Some super fun surprise around each corner
Just riding on a rainbow
I'm gonna be okay
Hey!
I'm not giving up today
There's nothing getting in my way
And if you knock knock me over
I will get back up again
Oh!
If something goes a little wrong
Well you can go ahead and bring it on
'Cause if you knock knock me over
I will get back up again
Whoa oh oh oh oh
get back up again
whoa oh oh oh oh oh
I'm marching along I got confidence
I'm cooler than a pack of peppermints
And I haven't been this excited since
I can't remember when!
I'm off on this remarkable adventure
Just riding on a rainbow
What if it's all a big mistake
What if it's more than I can take
No, I can't think that way 'cause I know that
I'm really, really, really gonna be okay
Hey!
I'm not giving up today
There's nothing getting in my way
And if you knock knock me over
I will get back up again
Oh!
If something goes a little wrong
Well you can go ahead and bring it on
'Cause if you knock knock me over
I will get back up again
Whoa oh oh oh oh
get back up again
whoa oh oh oh oh oh
I'm okay!
Whoa oh oh oh oh
And if you knock knock me over
you knock knock me over
I will get back up again
(Music ends)
The crowds are cheering for Marcy. She looked around at her friends that were all cheering for her. She felt touch like no one has ever praise her pretty voice. She can see Eddie and Bailey are also cheering for her. Ethan was surprised that his girlfriend can sing it out loud.
"I am so in love with her right now." Ethan mumbled.
"What?" KJ noticed.
"Nothing!"
After Marcy bows to the crowds, but suddenly she felt her phone vibrate. She took her phone out to looked at the text where it says "Come outside in the backyard. We need to talk alone". Marcy started to wonder who send her a text, but her thoughts were interrupted by Max.
"Let's give Marcy a big round of applause, people!"
She looked up as they continue to applause. Marcy needs to do something before she goes outside without being followed by her friends or her brother, but then she got an idea.
"Thank you, everyone. Before I get going, I would like to volunteer one of my friends, Agustin who's really good at singing!" Marcy announced.
Agustin Sanders, who was drinking his soda until this got him attention when he looked confused.
"Welp, that's my que! Marcy is out! PEACE!"
She did the mic drop, then she walked out while her friends are cheering before Agustin approach by picking up the mic. Eddie started to get suspicious at first, but decided to shrugged it off and have some fun.
Just then, when Marcy opens the slide door to the backyard and close it when she can hear the party goes on mumbled like it was nothing. It was really dark at night, but in the backyard when lights turned on.
Marcy started to wonder who sent her a text. Who was it? But then, she heard something when this kid like around 13 year old that has brown short hair, wearing white t-shirt underneath an old m65 field jacket, dark blue pants, brown shoes, and a baseball. Marcy could easily recognize this boy when he arrived.
"Frank?"
"Hey, Marcy. Long time, huh?" said Frank.
"Yeah, same here. Are you here for the party?" Marcy asked.
"Marcy, you know I can't come over to the party. You three ended our friendship. Remember?"
"Right, sorry."
"It's alright, but we need to talk."
"About what? Wait, were you texting me?"
"Yeah, I did. It's something that's important."
"Like what?"
Frank really wanted to tell her something, but he has to make it quick to make sure no one will hear them or see them. He sighed softly.
"First of all, I never get a chance to say thank you for clearing my name. I was so angry that my parents never believed me in the first place and then I moved out to live with my grandparents." said Frank.
"Oh, you're welcome. How's your grandparents?" Marcy asked.
"My grandma is fine, but my grandpa... he passed away." Frank answered quietly.
Marcy dropped her smile into frown. She never realized what he's been through.
"Oh, I am so sorry." Marcy apologizes softly.
"I'm sorry too. It's been 10 months since I moved in with my grandparents. Ever since I almost got sent to juvies, I realized that I really wanted to hunt that man down who framed me, but then I realized there's something is going on. When I overheard about this man talking to someone, they're talking about you."
"Me?"
"Yes, they're going after you are in terrible danger here. They're not gonna stop until they find you."
Marcy was in a mixture of shocked and confused.
"B-but why me?" Marcy asked when she felt scared a bit.
"Because you're the Wu's daughter that talks about ancient treasure." Frank answered.
"Treasure?" Marcy repeated.
When Frank was about to reply, but then he heard a creak sound as he quickly looked back at something. He must've thought what he heard something, but he carefully cautious in self-defense while Marcy stands behind him. Frank noticed that the gate to side yard was slightly open, and walks quietly stood against the fence on his back.
Marcy repeats as she does the same thing. He raises his finger to be quiet. She felt scared a bit, but she can still hear the party going on from the inside of the house. But then, the gate door just opens a bit until a shadow figured approach as he enters quietly.
But then, Frank quickly raises his left arm to chop off like karate as he starts to attack his arms. The shadow figured felt hurt as he groaned, but Frank punch him in the face, spin himself to trip the leg and fall down. He pulls out a taser and starts tasered him as the shadow figured shocked him in pain
Marcy has witnessed that Frank has attack the shadow figure. Once he stops tasered him, he quickly took off the mask just to see his face, but much to their horror he started to recognize this man who turned out to be as the same bully who picked on any kids including Marcy.
"Frank? Who's that?" Marcy asked.
"Justin."
Justin looks up with his cold hard glare at them.
"You!"
Frank has the opportunity to knock him out hard by punching him in the face. He shook off his fist to ease off the pain. Marcy was shocked that this person was the same bully who pushed her around.
"Man, that hurts." Frank muttered
"Wait, Justin?! That same kid who bullies me and my friends?!" Marcy asked.
"Yeah, that idiot jock got expelled after we pick a fight."
"But why is he wearing a mask?"
"Honestly, I have no idea who he works for or why is he attacking us."
"Then what are we gonna do?"
Frank hasn't thought about it at first, but he needs to come up something just to be sure to keep her safe. He looks to this guy's pocket until he pulled out something like an old cellphone. He flips it open to look through some contacts, but there are different numbers. He couldn't tell who their names are.
"I don't know, but I'm gonna get to the bottom of this. I'll call the police to explain everything." said Frank.
"And then what?" Marcy asked with concerned.
"Until we can figure this out, you'll be safe with your family."
"What about you?"
"I'll be alright. Just don't tell anyone that I'm here."
"But I'm your friend. They're your friends too."
Frank exhaled before he replied.
"I know you mean a lot to me, but this isn't my fight. I don't trust her."
"But I trust Anne and Sasha. I trust them both." said Marcy.
"Then you should be more careful who you to trust. Whatever when Sasha tells you what to do, there are always consequences."
Marcy looked down while rubbing her left arm shamefully. She did remember when Sasha almost got herself into trouble along with Anne. Marcy felt bad about them, but she didn't understand why Sasha force them to ditch school and do whatever she wants. Marcy was lucky to have her adoptive dad around.
Frank just bends down to picked up unconscious attacker by under his arm and dragged him out from the backyard. He takes his final look at Marcy with her frown look. He knew that Marcy was being so kind to him. Despite everything she has done for him to clear his name.
"Marcy, take care of yourself." said Frank.
"Thanks, and you too." replied Marcy.
He nodded before he closes the gate behind them. Marcy is only girl who was just standing in the backyard, but until when Sasha opens the slide door while the music is still playing to look for her, but she found her.
"Oh, there you are. What are you doing outside?" Sasha asked.
Marcy needs to come up with something. She knew that Sasha was the reason why she forced her and Anne to end their friendship with Frank. Instead, she comes up with excuse. Although she hates lying to her friends, but she doesn't have a choice.
"Sorry, I was just uh... getting some fresh air. That's all." Marcy lied.
"Okay? Let's get back inside and enjoy the party."
"Okay, I'll be right with you."
Sasha nodded before she went back inside. Marcy looks back at the gate with one last look and then went back inside to rejoin the party.
Not far from Sasha's house, Frank has already tied this crook up by a rope that he just brought. He pulled out his phone to contact the police until he heard a voice.
"Hello, operator. What is the emergency?"
"Yes, there was a stalker that's been following my friend and I apprehended him." Frank answered.
While Frank is on the phone, but he didn't notice that Justin just secretly contacts to send the signal to his boss before he was knocked out. He may have been defeated, but he makes sure that his boss will stop at nothing to get what he wants.
Meanwhile at the warehouse, Xuan is sitting in his office reading his text that he received from Justin. He chuckled coldly, knowing that it is time to execute his plan.
"Tomorrow dawn, we attack now."
And so it begins! That means the Wu Siblings will be found and captured by these thugs. Can Marcy's adoptive family will come and rescue them? Let's find out tomorrow! Stay tuned for the next chapter!
