A Moth To A Flame

Part 1: Shadow

She was always there for him, a shadow that never left his side. Some called her his protector others said she was just doing her job. For her it wasn't a job, a duty, or a burden. It was a goal, a way of life, and a reason to live. She would protect him with her life if that's what it took whether it required jumping in front of a gun, pointing out flaws in military tactics or preventing another night full of alcohol. She was there to lend a hand and give him a shoulder to cry on, she wanted to hear his thoughts and comfort him but he kept them all to himself. Their relationship was unique and couldn't be described, only a few could even begin to understand it. She dreamed of a day that she wished could come, a white dress and a black tuxedo with two special people in them, a little boy bearing a pillow with rings and a small girl in a fluttering dress throwing Sakura blossoms down the aisle. But she knew that would never happen, not while they were still in the military. Everyone knew once you signed up you could never leave. Being in the military had more consequences than that though, many were out for his blood, but she, in turn, was out for theirs. No one would take his life, she wouldn't allow it. He was important to her, yes, but he had a goal in life, greater than hers could ever be and she wanted him to accomplish that goal. It wasn't a selfish goal for himself but an important goal for the people he served. He wanted justice and rights for the people who looked up to him, revenge for fallen comrades. She understood and respected this. She would wait an eternity for him. She was and would always be his shadow, his support, his protector.

And she would never leave his side.
