"Here we are. Your room will be the one on the left. It has a beautiful view of Upperton. Don't worry the glass is set up so people can't see in, but you can see out. There are blackout curtains and also a private bathroom. First thing, I need you to put in these colored contacts and rub this temporary hair dye in your hair when you shower it will come right out and let me take a picture. In the event that we are no longer safe here, getting to the next location will require some convincing IDs. While you are doing that, I will grab you something to change into after your shower just in case I am not back by the time you are out."
Bonnie did as Ron asked and then took a shower when she came out she saw a pair of gym shorts, a t-shirt and sweater on the bed to change into. Am I supposed to pretend to be his girlfriend with these clothes? That might be a good way to mess with him. After she puts on the clothes she hears a door open and close and heads to the open concept, living, kitchen, and dining area to see that Ron has returned.
"Hopefully the clothes I gave you are comfortable. I have the new ones here." As Ron passes her the clothes he adds, "Don't worry I didn't buy them at Smarty Mart. They are not top of the line or latest trends, but you should still be able to move in them in case of emergency, and they do not look like something you would normally wear in public. They are more subtle."
As Bonnie looks at the clothes she thinks, He didn't do a terrible job. I couldn't wear these to school, but if I was going to the country club or someplace more modest it should be fine.
"Thanks."
"Also, I brought some food. I figured you might be hungry. And tomorrow I plan to make good on one of the promises with a day of cooking for you."
Bonnie nods as they start to eat.
When they finish, Bonnie asks, "So what is happening with my family? The guys who tried to abduct me? And who did you know about this?"
Ron takes a deep breath. "Let me run down what I know. On Monday when you were driving in I noticed a car following you that I have not seen before. When you left it appeared again. On Tuesday, they showed up again so I dropped a hint to Tara that you two should go to the mall after school. Thankfully, you agreed because your sisters are home for college break. After school, I went towards the mall to see if they would follow you there and they did. I waited to see if they would follow you home, and they did. I looped in my mom at that point and had her search for any reason why your parents might be trouble, while I looked into you and your sisters. My mom found something related to your dad. When they followed you again today, we made the decision to act. Sorry about the kiss and the pseudo-groping, we figured the best plan was for it to look like you were emotionally compromised which would make them think they had the upper hand. With their overconfidence, I was easily able to subdue them. We figured we would bring you here since the safest place for you would be in a place where they could not make another attempt. Now your family is being informed of everything that is happening and the people who attacked you are being treated for injuries related to a car accident they suffered."
"Car accident?"
"They will have injuries that look like a car accident, and someone will wreck their car and show them video of the car getting into an accident. And since I caused some brain damage they will probably accept the car accident."
"Are you okay?"
"Physically I am fine. Mentally I am a little off. I don't really like violence or hurting people."
"Then why do you do it?"
"I like to help people and sometimes the only way to help is through violence. In those situations, I use it and regret it later. If at all possible, I will not fight. Also, I kind of feel bad kissing you."
"Was it your first kiss or something?"
"No. I feel bad about it because I have been told they are supposed to be romantic and passionate and this was to protect the girl kiss almost like I stole it.
"What do you mean 'supposed to be romantic'? So I was your first kiss?"
"No. I just never had a romantic kiss. It has been mission or training related. I was told I need to learn how to convince a woman to kiss me in case I need to protect my cover or protect her from someone. I never have kissed someone because I thought they were beautiful, smart, and just because I wanted to."
"That is kind of sad and sick." Bonnie also started to wonder If he kisses like that imagine how good he could be if he cared about me.
"Agreed. Also I feel bad because if it was bad or good. You can't tell anyone about it." Ron said
"Don't worry it wasn't a bad kiss."
"That's good I wouldn't want to be known as that guy who saved you, but was a terrible kisser."
Bonnie chuckled. "Don't worry, the only people I would tell are Tara or Brick. I can't tell Tara." Bonnie paused.
Ron jumped in, "Because of her crush on me."
"You know!"
"Yeah. She will get over me once another guy comes along that treats her like everything about her matters and not just her looks. A lot of guys at school only see her for her beauty. As for Brick it is probably better if you don't tell him after what happened during my first week."
"What happened the first week?"
"I thought you heard. Oh well. After our first dance session, Brick thought I was trying to steal his girlfriend. So he showed up and he hurt himself. Next day he showed up with the two of the starting linebackers to try and his words 'beat some sense into me'. I just dodged his attacks and he instead ended up hitting the linebackers. The next day he showed up with the defensive line. Brick never hit me and neither did the defensive line, but they did hit each other quite a bit. On the next day, Brick showed up with the offensive line and the tight end."
Bonnie interrupted, "Let me guess. Different number of guys but same result."
Ron continued, "Exactly. So telling Brick will only result in two outcomes. One he tries to attack me again and gets hurt although it would be funny seeing him storm off after you tell him so that he could rush in to get his butt kicked." Bonnie giggles at the image of the large boy stomping off for a beating. "Second he breaks up with you. And then I would feel worse about it."
Bonnie added, "Don't worry. I won't tell him. Why did Brick stop trying to attack you?"
"Barkin stopped him and scolded him for getting the entire team hurt."
A phone starts to ring. Ron goes over to it and hands it to Bonnie, "This is going to be your family. Please don't say anything about me or what I did. If they ask, just say I seem like a nice man and that you have a very nice room that you will be by yourself in. Also on speaker phone to start and if it gets personal you can switch it off."
Bonnie nods and answers the phone, "Hello."
On the other end, "Bonnie! We are so glad you are safe." her mom said. It was comforting for her to hear.
"I am lucky nothing bad happened." Bonnie said
"Way to go Bonnie. Almost ruining our break by getting kidnapped." Crowed her sisters.
"Stop that." yelled her dad
"Are you being treated alright?" Her dad asked
"Yes I am in a nice place, I got my own room, and the person protecting me has been very nice to me." She covers the speaker, "I think it is best if my dad doesn't know it is a man protecting me. He can get overly protective of me."
Her dad continued, "Well that's good. We have to get back to the agents that are here so they can bring you back home safely."
"Bye." Bonnie softly says in a disappointed way.
"Bye" comes from the group of them and then the call ends.
Ron sees Bonnie a bit upset about what just happened and says, "Sorry."
Bonnie stares at him and snaps, "What are you talking about?"
"Well this is my first time protecting someone, but I kind of expected the call to be more happy, and less mean and business-like."
"Well my sisters are mean, and my dad is very business-like when he is uncomfortable. What do you mean this is your first time protecting someone?"
"Well most of my tasks are solo and involve not being detected by anyone." Ron told her
Bonnie asked, "So are they going to replace you with someone with more experience with this?"
Ron answered, "Unfortunately for you, no. They would have to send someone who knows I am an agent and that list is very small and they may find this as not a good use of their time. Sorry"
"Stop saying sorry. And why do you usually work the way you do?" Bonnie asked
"Well working in a stealth manner, I usually do not have to resort to violence and I have always been very good at getting in and out of places without being detected."
"How long have you been doing this?"
Ron told Bonnie, "I have been training for a long time, my mom jokes my whole life since I used to sneak out of my crib as a baby, and when I went to daycare I would drive the people there crazy because instead of napping I would sneak outside to play. At one point, they just left someone outside to figure out how I did it and let me play outside, but every time I was caught I would do it a different way. Eventually, my mom thought it would be a good idea to give me some martial arts training since I wasn't very disciplined and that led to a lot of different types of training. The most amusing is probably the picture of me doing tai chi as a six year old surrounded by a bunch of old people."
Bonnie giggled at the image of that and interrupted Ron's story, "I ask how long have you been doing missions?"
"My bad. I started at 15 after my mom had some Navy seals that owed her a favor. They had to try and catch me while I had to disarm them."
"And you won?" Bonnie asked
"Yep. I had to do it twice. Once because she knew they would take it easy on me, and the second time they were going to try really hard, since I beat them the first time."
Bonnie looks at Ron with a shocked stare. She then asks, "Why are you protecting me?"
"Things started to go too well which would have raised suspicion, and my mom thought I should try to understand what it is like to be a normal teenager. I was homeschooled since we moved a lot when I was younger and I didn't exactly do what teachers wanted me to."
"You are starting to make more sense to me now. I may finally be able to bring you in line with the rest of the school." Bonnie lets out a fake evil laugh.
"We both know that won't work. I am starting to figure you out as well."
Bonnie quizzically, "What do you mean?"
Ron answered, "Some of your personality at school is driven by your home life. Some things are driven by you believing you have to do certain things."
"Hence the friction that we had about the food chain." Bonnie added
Ron continued, "I never knew such a thing existed since I have not spent much time in schools, and you were just doing what you were supposed to do. Any other questions for me"
"Nothing for tonight." Bonnie walks towards her room and looks back at Ron and says, "Thank you and Goodnight."
"Goodnight Bonnie."
