Ron introduces Dr. Director "Mom, this is Bonnie. Bonnie, this is mom."
"Pleasure to meet you Bonnie. Sorry it is under these circumstances. You can call me Betty."
"Hi Betty."
"Bonnie, would you mind going into your room for a bit while I talk to my son about a few things."
Bonnie responded, "I can do that"
After the door to Bonnie's room closes, Betty turns to Ron, "So you gave her my room."
"Seemed like the better option. It's bigger and has a better shower. As long as I have hot water and a bed I'm good."
"How has it been going here?"
"I have been trying my best to keep her calm and relaxed. I think I am doing alright. Being a good cook doesn't hurt. Are you staying for dinner?"
"I am going to be here for dinner, but after dinner you are leaving."
"Why?" Ron asked
"I need you in the field to solve this issue."
"That bad?"
"Bonnie's family will be okay if we can wrap this up quickly."
"So we are going to be having a strategy session until dinner. Should I tell Bonnie that this talk is going to take until dinner?" Ron asks
"Let me, I will need to establish some connection with her before you leave. You should start looking at this." Betty hands Ron a file.
"Go for it"
Dr. Director walks over to the door, knocks and then enters.
"Bonnie. Ron and I will be talking about his next mission until dinner. Will you be okay here until dinner?"
Bonnie sheepishly replies, "I should be able to keep busy until then."
"Great. We will update you on what is happening next at dinner."
Betty closes the door and walks back to Ron. "What do you think?"
"We need to act fast. These are some bad people."
Ron and Dr. Director came up with a plan. It ends up being very similar to what Ron told Bonnie earlier and he knows who he has to get and how to get it done.
Bonnie can smell dinner in the air as a knock on the door comes, "Come in."
Betty says, "I hope you are hungry because Ron cooked up a feast for you."
"Can't wait." As Bonnie exits the room she sees Ron and asks, "What did you make?"
"Roasted herb rubbed chicken with roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes. Nothing too fancy."
They dig into a delicious meal and Dr. Director breaks the silence while looking at Bonnie saying, "Bonnie we have a plan that should result in you and your family being safe."
"That's great."
"Unfortunately, Ron is leaving right after dinner."
Bonnie looks towards Ron who mouths 'Sorry' to Bonnie. Bonnie looks back at Betty and asks, "Why?"
"I need to send in someone who will not be caught and can do this quickly and Ron is the best person for this situation."
"Who will be staying with me?" Bonnie asks
"I will be here with you tonight and if everything goes well tomorrow night you will be back home."
"I guess that's good news." Bonnie replies
Ron jumps in, "Of course it is. You will be home and not be trapped in this condo with me anymore."
Bonnie half-heartedly agrees, "You're right."
The dinner mostly paces with aimless chatter until the dishes are placed in the sink Bonnie heads back to the room she is staying in while Ron packs up to leave. There is a knock on Bonnie's door and then Ron enters. He walks up to Bonnie and hands her a piece of paper and tells her, "Bonnie, If you are ever in trouble, call this number and I will come and help you. There is one stipulation."
"Of course. Since, you are the most complicated boy ever."
"You cannot program this number into your phone. You either have to memorize or hide it somewhere safe until you need it."
"Gotcha."
"I will see you soon."
"Good luck"
"Thanks"
Bonnie sees Ron have a quick talk with his mother. She gives him a hug and he is out the door. Betty starts walking towards Bonnie and sees a concerned look in her eye. As Betty approaches the doorway Bonnie asks, "Is what Ron is about to do going to be dangerous?"
"Not for him"
"But it's dangerous."
"For most people, but not for him."
"How could you send him off to do this? Aren't you worried?"
"I am always worried when he goes off on a mission, but I know how capable he is. I know he will come back safe."
"How?"
"Before he started doing missions for me, I had him test out government security systems by breaking into different government buildings. He was able to sneak in and out without getting noticed every time. So I challenged him to sneak into Fort Knox and take a photo of the gold reserves. A week later he came back with a photo in hand. He is capable of so many great things and he has only gotten better since he has focused on helping people."
Bonnie has a shocked look on her face and then asks, "Did he take any of the gold?"
"Not the first time. Nothing was missing and no one knew he was there. In order to convince them to change the security, he broke in again and handed the commanding officer a gold bullion."
They both laugh at the story.
Bonnie asks again, "He is going to be fine, right?"
"He will be okay."
Bonnie starts to relax. Betty then asks, "Do you want me to tell you an embarrassing story about when Ron was little?"
Bonnie perks up and responds, "Yes, please."
Bonnie and Betty have a pleasant day together and Ron was successful, so Bonnie got to go home. When she arrived her father embraced her with a large hug. The weekend proceeded as normal, and everything seemed fine until school on Monday when Ron wasn't there. Bonnie started to worry, Why isn't he here? If he is fine after the mission he should be here. Where is that number he gave me? Bonnie couldn't concentrate and when lunch break hit she snuck off to her car to call the number. She hears it start to ring, Pick up … Pick up. She then hears, "Hello Bonnie."
"Don't you just Hello Bonnie me. Where are you? And why are you not in school?"
"I needed a few days to readjust after that last mission. I wasn't hurt at all"
"Why didn't you tell me that?"
"When I try to relax after things like this I try to go off the grid so I haven't seen or spoken to anyone since after the mission."
"Does your mom know where you are?"
"No. She knows I am okay. If she really wanted to, she could find me. She has connections."
"What does the school think, since you've been gone for so long?"
"Honestly. I don't know. My mom will work something out with the school. I will be back tomorrow. Also it probably would look weird if we both missed the same two days last week and returned on the same day."
"I guess so."
"Bonnie, you should get back to school. You don't want to get in trouble."
"You are probably right."
"One more thing. Thanks for worrying about me."
Bonnie hesitantly answers, "You're welcome."
