AN: So, I decided to redo Seeing Double a bit. I am going to still make Rose a twin but she has a different journey through the series. Laylah, her twin and other best friend to Lissa, was severely injured in the accident that killed her parents and brother. Laylah ended up having to get a liver transplant because of the severity of the accident. When they run, she is still healing and ends up getting caught sooner.

Chills ran down her spine as she coughed, hearing her sister say the people that they had been running from were there. She could barely stand as her sister and best friend turned to her, concern on their faces. The blonde walked over, worried as she looked at her.

"Laylah…You're burning up." She frowned. "I know…I ran out of rejection meds the other day…I'm out of refills." Laylah breathed, making her frown as her sister stared.

"Why didn't you say anything?" Rose frowned. "We can't afford to have me sick…Go…At worst, I'll be back at the academy, now go!" Laylah replied, making her frown. "Are you sure?" Rose asked. "Yes, go, before we're all caught." She told her.

The pair slipped out of the apartment easily and off the bus station. Laylah drug herself up and into the living room, curling into the blanket there, and waited for the guardians to get to her. She shivered as she waited, her body unable to keep running anymore. It had been almost a month since she had run out of meds and it was starting to show.

Thirty minutes later, the guardians got to the apartment and a tall man walked in, wearing a tan duster. Laylah looked up at him as he frowned, seeing the fever induced curls and sweat roll down her forehead. His eyes softened as he knelt down at her side, checking on her.

"Where are your sister and the princess?" He asked, making her half smirk. "Gone…I told them to leave me behind." Laylah replied, "Are you Lissa's new guardian?" "I am…my name is Dimitri Belikov…I'm guessing you're Laylah." He said, making her nod. "Yeah…you don't happen to have an emergency set of my rejection meds, do you?" She asked, making him frown. "No…but you're going to be brought to the court hospital." He told her, making her nod, "can you walk?" "It was struggle to get out here…" She told him.

He nodded and easily lifted her up, carrying her out to the waiting SUV. The other guardians frowned as they saw the pale teen with him and he told them to get a team to get her things. One of the said they would stay behind with half the team and get the items. He nodded and hopped into the other SUV.

Laylah must have passed out because when her eyes opened, she was in the hospital at Court. She frowned as she saw the IV in her hand and the canula taped to her face. Her eyes were tired as the door opened and she saw the guardian with her mother.

"Laylah Grace Hathaway…what were you thinking!" Janine breathed, taking her hand. "I'm sorry mama…I had to…whoever was screwing with Lissa, she wasn't safe. Rose tried to tell them but Kirova blew her off…She didn't believe her." Laylah told her, making her sigh. "You could have died…you were this close to having to getting another transplant…you're lucky the doctors were able to fix it." Janine told her. "I'm sorry mama." She told her. "You're going to have to go with your father for a bit…no, you need to heal, and the only way I can ensure that is for him to come and take you." Janine said. "Does he even know about us?" Laylah asked. "Yes and he has been very worried about you two." She said, her voice soft, "My wee barren, you need to rest." "Okay." Laylah sighed.

"When you're cleared for the academy again, I will glady train you." Dimitri told her, making her brown eyes look up at him. "Promise?" She asked. "Yes…You won't likely be allowed back until after holiday break." He smiled. "Thanks…hopefully they won't give you a hard time…My sister is slick and will do all it takes to protect Lissa." Laylah replied, making him nod. "I see that, you were willing to sacrifice your health for her…but as a guardian, you cannot…you're on that medication for the rest of your life…it will prevent you from graduating if you don't take it." He said, making her nod. "Yeah, I got that part." She told him, making him nod.

Two days later, a tall man walked in wearing a tailored suit and a scarf around his neck as Laylah slept. Janine looked up from her book and smiled softly at him as he stared at her, seeing how much their daughter looked like him.

"Janine." He said, making her look up. "Abe…she's sleeping…the medication is working." She told him. "Good…have they found Rose and the princess yet?" He asked. "No…Laylah said they wouldn't likely for a while." She sighed. "They're smart, like you." He smirked, making her scoff. "No, they're like you." Janine said, her Scottish accent flaring slightly. "I suppose you're right." He grinned, making her roll her eyes.

"Ugh…can you two stop flirting, its painful to listen to." Laylah asked, making them turn to her. "Oh, you are indeed my daughter." Abe grinned, making her mother roll her eyes.

"Don't…how are you feeling?" Janine asked. "Sore…ready to get out of bed and able to do something other than sleeping." Laylah told her. "You're going to have to start from the basics again…your body isn't used to the same stamina it was before…you have to rebuild all those muscles." Janine said, making her sigh.

"Don't worry, I'm sure that one of my guardians can help you when we're at the villa in a week or so. Belikov was talking to them about that when we arrived." Abe smirked. "How do you know him?" Laylah frowned. "I've known him since he was a boy…He's a good man, and an amazing guardian…he was visiting family when his charge, his best friend and his other guardian was killed in an attack." Abe replied, making her realize that he knew better than anyone what it meant to protect someone you cared for. "Oh…" Was all Laylah could say.

One Year later…

The sound of someone hitting a mat hard was all that could be heard as the group of novice students cheered and laughed. A beautiful brunette grinned down at her red haired best friend with impish glee as he laughed.

"Eat that, Ashford." She taunted, making him grin. "Ouch…no fair, you're training with Belikov." He pouted as she held her hand up to him to help him up. "So, I'm still a few months behind you guys…thanks to the liver transplant." Laylah replied, making him scoff. "Behind my ass, you are so far ahead, its not funny." He replied, making her smile.

"Well done, Laylah." Alberta praised as she smiled. "Thank you Guardian Petrov…has Guardian Belikov returned yet?" Laylah asked, making her smile. "They're on the way back, they found your sister and the princess." Alberta replied, making her nod. "Okay." She replied, making her nod.

The captain walked away as Mason and Eddie came over, seeing her face as she thought about her sister's return. Laylah had been back at the academy since after Christmas, last year. Abe had talked Kirova not to punish her because of the fact that she was ill. She relented to told her she would not tolerate her trying to escape again.

"What do you think is going to happen to your sister?" Mason asked. "I have no idea." Laylah sighed. "So, will your dad get your sister a sweet room too or is that just because he feels bad about you being sick?" He teased, making her eye him. "I don't know…but baba did say that anything I needed, all I have to do is call." Laylah replied, making her friends roll their eyes. "Spoiled." He smirked, throwing a towel in her face.

The next morning, she was up early when she saw her sister and Lissa. Laylah also so Dimitri, who gave her a small smile. She smiled back, glad to know he had come back safely with them. Lissa and Rose ran over to her, hugging her tightly.

"Laylah!" Rose cried, making her smile. "Rose!" She breathed, "Lissa." "You look so much better than last time we saw you…what happened?" Lissa breathed, both hugging her. "He found me, had to carry me out because I was too weak to…mom and baba said that I almost had to have another surgery because of how sick I was." Laylah replied. "Baba…wait, you've met our father?" Rose breathed. "Yeah, I had to stay with him. Mom wasn't able to take time off very long from guarding Lord Szelsky…but he gave her the week I was there…then I went to Turkey for a few months to heal." Laylah said.

"Ladies, the headmistress is waiting." Dimitri said, making them look up at him. "Damn…did they make sure we didn't have the same dorm?" Rose asked, making her nod. "Yeah, Baba had a room set up for you…I have the key…He knew they would bring you back…he said now that he's gotten to know me and what you like, he's not letting us go without." Laylah smiled, making her nod. "Cool…see you later." Rose said, hugging her.

"Me too…I'm glad you're feeling better." Lissa replied. "Yeah, be good." Laylah smiled.

She sighed as she walked into the lunch room and sighed, seeing her friends. Laylah knew that Rose and Liss were in for a rude awakening. While she was on the top for dhampir students, she still could careless about what the royals thought. Natalie was the only one she hung around, as side from Abigail Szelsky.

The two royals saw her face as she sat down, groaning as Abigail passed her a mug of coffee. She nodded her thanks as she saw Spirrdon, Natalie's father's guardian, coming over with a small packet for her.

"Figured you hadn't gotten up to the infirmary." The southern guardian said, handing it to her. "No…just saw my sister and Lissa." Laylah sighed.

"They're back?" Abigail breathed. "Yeah…eew…it melted." She replied as one of the pills quickly melted on her tongue.

She coughed at the taste as she quickly washed it down, making her friends smirk softly. Spirrdon smirked as he shook his head and walked away, patting her shoulder. Mason came over with a goofy smirk as he looked at her.

"So, how badly do you think her ass is getting chewed out?" He grinned. "Dimitri had that look, the one he gets when he knows we're in trouble for a bad test…its gonna be bad." Laylah told him. "You realize you have him wrapped, right?" He teased, making her roll her eyes. "So, he was one of the ones to actually give me a shot when I came back…all the others said I should be put in something vocational or be put behind a desk at court." Laylah frowned.

"Its true…my uncle is going to let her guard me when we graduate…oh, did you get your application in for Yale?" Abigail asked. "Yeah…I think I'm gonna follow you and do law…a guardian and a lawyer…the court won't even want to mess with me." Laylah teased, making her laugh. "Hell no." She grinned.

After breakfast, Laylah and Mason walked Abigail and Natalie to class before going to the gym. She had already been in her training gear and was ready for the day. Her eyes caught her sister and Dimitri in the gym as she stretched. Mason looked at her as she kicked her leg up high onto the wall to stretch.

"Show off." He said. "Am not." She grinned as Dimitri came over.

"Laylah…Mr. Ashford." Dimitri greeted. "Guardian Belikov." They smiled as Mason tried to knock her off balance.

Mason walked to the locker room to change, leaving the two alone. He saw her eyes as she lowered her leg. He had something on his mind.

"What's wrong?" She asked. "I'm training your sister to help her catch up." Dimitri said as he too her other leg and helped her stretch her other leg. "No more runs along the far side of campus." She sighed, making him shake his head. "I can do weekends still and I would like you to join…It gives me an excuse to see you." He said, making her nod. "Fine." She said, making him nod. "I heard you put every student here on the rears yesterday." He said, making her smirk. "And Yuri and Stan…he's still glaring at me for it." She said, making him chuckle. "Good job…class is starting…go easy on Rose…she's going to need her sister today." Dimitri told her, making her nod. "Don't I know it." Laylah replied.

Rose came over as he smiled at her twin before walking away. She saw her smile as she looked over at him and then her. Laylah saw her face as she put an arm around her.

"He has a smile?" Rose asked. "Uh…yeah, Dimitri was the only one to give me a chance when I came back here. He was here until they got tips of where you two were." Laylah told her. "So, he was your mentor?" Rose asked. "Yeah…its probably why he agreed to train you…he knows what you're capable of." Laylah smiled. "So, are you going to be able to guard Abby?" She asked. "Yeah, her uncle has already talked to the council about it…and mom has too…They were impressed by my improvement, but I guess that is what happens when you're trained by a Blood master 7." Laylah shrugged, making Rose stop and stare. "Wait…Laylah!" Rose said, making her twin laugh.

After a rough day, Rose could barely walk as she and Laylah walked into the gym. Dimitri was reading one of his westerns and listening to the 80s music she had grown used to hearing. He looked up to see that Laylah had changed to a brightly colored work out set and new sneakers. She had shown her twin to her room and showed her where she could find her clothes.

"Really?" Rose frowned as Laylah set down her duffle. "Don't complain." Laylah said, making Dimitri smirk slightly.

"Don't you have a paper to write?" He teased, making her look at him. "I already did it." Laylah replied, reaching up and climbing up to the rings that hung from the ceiling.

While he gave instructions to her sister, Laylah climbed down and decided to do some yoga stretches. It was hard not being able to be alone with him the way she wanted. It was even harder, hiding the fact that he was her boyfriend from her twin. But she had to. She just hoped that Rose wouldn't be upset with her when she did.

AN: I hope that you all like the rewrite better. I will try to work on things and get it done faster.
