So She Said
Author's Note: I was sick and tired of everyone making Miroku die, so I flipped it. There. Get over it. Ok, so please read and review! I will love you forever!
Disclaimer: I own no one. The great and almighty Rumiko Takahashi does!
Miroku watched over her, a bowl of cool water near at hand. Sango lay before him, a sickness
Kagome-sama called cancer, wreaking its havoc in the young slayer's body. He pulled the rag off her forehead, dipped it in the water, wrung it out, and placed it back on her forehead once more. Miroku repeated this process many times in the course of a couple of hours. He had just placed it back on her forehead when her eyes fluttered open to reveal dull, almond colored eyes.
"Miroku," she whispered hoarsely.
"Yes Sango?" She weakly reached up and placed a hand on his cheek. "I love you," she choked out.
Tears formed in his eyes, and he put his hand over hers. "I love you too, Sango."
The tears fell, and she smiled contently. "I'm dying. Miroku, I probably won't make it to see the next sunrise." Tears formed in the corners of her eyes, and ran from her eyes to her cheeks, to the mat she was laying on.
He gulped, and whispered, "I know."
He leaned down and kissed her, and she kissed him back with as much strength as she could muster. They pulled away for air, and he lay down next to her.
"Miroku, I'm scared," she said turning her head to face him.
Miroku wrapped an arm around her waist, and said, "Don't be. Buddha will be there to welcome you. He will keep you safe until he has decided he wants you to walk the earth again. And I will follow you soon enough."
She pressed herself against his chest, and cried. He rubbed her back comfortingly, and held her tighter.
"I love you Sango. And I always will. I promise I won't be with another woman, ok?"
She looked up at him. "No, I want you to be with someone else. Give her children, and be happy. But, don't forget me, ok?"
"I will do as you wish, Sango. But believe me when I say this: I could never forget you."
She looked up at him, and kissed him weakly. "I'll be leaving in a moment or so, Miroku. I love you so very much." Her eyes closed with a sigh.
"I love you too, Sango." But she was already gone. At least she knew. He looked at her lifeless body, and began sobbing. The loss of his one true love was too much for him to bear. But he would go on. So she said.
