TEN YEARS AGO – LOS ANGELES, CA
"Dad I'm not crazy!" Buffy screams as she sits in the visitation room at the mental institution her parents had sent her to, she had been here 2 weeks now and they still wouldn't believe her.
She wasn't crazy she just wishes they would believe her, she was scared, terrified even, ever since her Watcher had shown up at school and told her she was a vampire Slayer she had been scared.
How was she supposed to handle this?
She was 15 years old she wasn't supposed to be fighting vampires, she just wanted to be a normal teenage girl. She wanted her life back. She just thought telling her parents would mean they could fix it, she never thought this would happen.
Hank sighs as he looks down at his daughter, she looked terrified and pale, and it killed him but if he didn't help her then she would end up just like his father, yelling about demons and spirits till it drove her entire family away "Sweetie, the doctors are helping you."
Buffy pouts as she looks down and wipes away her tears "Daddy I just wanna go home."
"Then accept that your sick honey." Hank tells her "And then I can take you home."
"I'm sorry Mr. Summers visiting hours are over." The doctor tells Buffy's dad as he walks over, while Buffy's eyes widen in panic Hank merely nods and stands "I'll see you soon sweetie."
Buffy takes a shaky breath before watching her father go with teary eyes, sighing she follows the doctor back to her room only to frown as she spots a man with dark hair and stubble standing by her barred window.
The doctor offers a comforting smile at the young girl trying to reassure her "Buffy, this is Doctor Viekman, he's a specialist in helping with your specific condition. I'll leave you two be."
At the doctor leaves the room Buffy crosses her arms and turns to face the new doctor and sighs "I'm not sick."
"I know you're not." The man tells her as he turns to face her "You're dad...I've known him a long time. Never been a fan. But when he locked you in here you're grandfather called me. He wasn't too pleased. So he sent me."
Buffy arches a brow at the strange man "You're not a doctor are you?"
The man snorts "No I'm not. And you're not crazy...you're the Slayer." He tells her making her eyes widen in shock, the whole time she had been in here she had never used the 'S' word, yes she had said vampires but that was it, spotting her shocked look the man smiles before shaking his head and walking over to the new Slayer holding out his hand for her to shake "It's nice to meet you, Buffy. I'm John Winchester."
"Why did you break me out?" Buffy asks in utter confusion as she sits opposite John in the coffee shop near the graveyard, she just didn't get it, why would a man who didn't know her, not only believe everything she had said but then also break her out of an institution.
John smiles at the young girl as he watches her drink her milkshake, she was maybe two/three years younger than Dean, yet Dean had grown up in this, this girl she was being forced into this, without any previous knowledge of the world she was being thrust into.
She was a sweet innocent girl that could now probably break him with her thumb, to be honest, he had never met a Slayer but from what her grandfather had said she was going to be extremely strong, and the longer she lasted the stronger she would get.
"Your granddad helped me a lot when I hunting especially when my boys were young. Your dad wouldn't let you near him, he didn't want you believing any of it. So when your Watcher called him to tell him what happened he called me. I was nearby so said I'd handle it."
The young Buffy looks down at her hands nervously playing with her fingers, she was a little unsure of what to do, she just didn't know how to deal with all of this, it was all too much.
Taking a shaky breath she looks up at him with teary eyes "Can you fix me?" She asks her voice breaking softly as she speaks.
She didn't want to be a Vampire Slayer, she wanted to be a cheerleader, be prom queen...be normal.
John's eyes widen slightly and he sighs sadly, he felt for the kid, if Hank had believed his parents she may not be so scared now, she would have been prepared.
"That's not how it works kid. But...I'll deal with your dad. You're not going back to that place. I promise."
BROOKLYN, NYC – TWO AND A HALF MONTHS AGO
Buffy moans in delight taking a big bite into her apple pie as she and John sit in a booth in a small diner near the Brooklyn Bridge. As she soaks in the amazing bite of pie she looks up and couldn't help but sigh, while she wasn't complaining about John saving her butt, however, she hadn't seen this man in 10 years, there were just so many questions going through her head right now.
Spotting the blonde watching him John lowers his coffee before sighing "Get it out."
The blonde huffs before swallowing her bite of pie and sitting back in her seat watching him with a curious brow "It's been 10 years John. Last I saw you, you broke me out of an Institution, took me on a vampire hunt, and then punched my dad in the face. Which yeah my dad can be kind of a..."
"A dick." John finishes making Buffy snort slightly before rolling her eyes in amusement, crossing her arms she sighs "What are you doing here?"
John sighs before glancing around the dinner, leaning forward he lowers his voice slightly "Look kid, a couple of months ago you're dad called me out of the blue. He told me what happened to Dawn. Would have been here sooner but you jump from place to place quick kid."
At his words, Buffy goes stone cold and her fist tightens around the fork in her hand breaking it in two, sighing she places the two metal pieces on the table before running a hand through her hair. She never talked about that night, never said Dawn's name anymore. It just made her so angry thinking back to that night, how helpless her sister had been and how useless she had been, she hadn't been able to save her.
John watches her for a long moment and he couldn't help but feel for her, he could see it in her eyes, the anger, the rage, the guilt and the grief, 10 years of pain all in her eyes, he could only imagine half of the stuff she had been through in the time since he had last seen her.
That hopeful sweet innocent girl...she was gone.
"The same thing happened to my wife." He tells her making her eyes widen in shock "Sammy's girlfriend. And probably more people. I've been hunting that thing for years, and in the past few months, you've managed to torture and maim a lot of information out of demons to the point where they would rather exercise themselves than risk you getting your itty bitty hands on them. It's impressive."
"It's more...deep conversations." Buffy argues before sipping her coffee "With knives." She says with a small smirk making John smile before he sighs "Your dad told me you were hunting it, he's worried about you. Asked me to keep an eye on you."
Buffy sighs, the idea of John and her dad having a decent pleasant conversation, was about absurd as the idea of her going to a science college. About as impossible as pigs being able to fly "You and dad, pleasant conversation?" She asks sarcastically "And how many ballet rhinos were involved in this trip session of yours?"
John shakes his head in amusement, he had to admit she had a little bit of a point there "Trust me I was more surprised than you. The guy's an ass. But he knows he can't talk you out of this." Pausing he looks at her seriously "You're doing this to protect Christopher right?"
At the mention of her baby brother's name she winces slightly thinking of him, she hadn't seen him in 2 months, and phone calls while not the same it was the only option. The last time she visited a demon almost found him, she couldn't risk him.
She had already lost her sister she couldn't lose her brother too.
"He's not even one year old and a demon came after him and killed our sister." She hisses a dark look covering her eyes.
John nods in agreement understanding her anger completely, it was the same anger he felt every day "Well you may be tiny but your basically The Terminator, and I wanna keep Sam and Dean out of it. So let me help you help me. Let's go kill that son of a bitch."
