Uh-oh, uh-oh…
Uh-oh, uh-oh…]
Tonight's Summer Wars fallout edition of Ignition opens up to a series of wild pyrotechnics from the stage followed by the sight of over 12,000 people inside the Valley View Casino Center at San Diego, California. Mark "Markiplier" Fischbach introduces himself and his colleagues, Kenji Matsuo, Zack Carver and Barney Stinson, as he greets and welcomes the viewers to the APEX Era as Apex Caliber Wrestling. Even after five days after Summer Wars ended, the fire of the aftermath is still blazing as only two titles remained with their holders and most exchanged to new ones, especially a new APEX World Women's Champion in Satsuki Kiryūin after cashing in her Diamond in the Mine briefcase and a new APEX World Champion in the undefeated Beowulf.
Meanwhile, on tonight's match card, there's a lot to be excited for. Tag team partners Hinata Hyuga and Samantha Hart, per requested by management, will face each other in a match to blow off steam and settle their differences before they can invoke their rematch clause for the APEX Women's Tag Team Championships. World Women's Champion Satsuki Kiryūin is expecting whether or not Téa Gardner will invoke her rematch clause. Also, in tonight's main event, Altered Egos and The Symbiotes are to fight for the former's rightful rematch clause to the APEX World Tag Team Championships; basically, if the Symbiotes win, they will win the right to face Alpha & Omega for the belts instead at Unforgiven. Mark notes how they'll be plenty of action to come as some old stories will still linger for a while, but new sagas are just about to commence in the APEX Era.
We go right to the ring…and out comes new APEX World Champion Beowulf to a massive pop from the San Diego natives. How appropriate of the top-tier champion himself to come out first…
Opening Segment – Beowulf kicks off the new era with an APEX World Championship Coronation
Recap: This segment went all out with the celebration in Beowulf's entrance; bigger golden pyro, almost an endless amount of confetti and balloons, Vikings lined up at the ramp, and the ring decorated with a red canvas. Since his victory at Summer Wars, Beowulf has now been called the King of APEX. Well, what's a king without a throne as it sits in the middle of the ring? As he sat in it, sparks fly from behind and Beowulf remained his cool composure. After this special entrance ended, Beowulf remained silent…taking in the positive reactions he was receiving from the fans…for one minute until bringing up a mic to his lips…and uttered his first words, "By Odin, it feels good to be king…" That was enough to get the audience popping for a near minute, amusing Beowulf.
The new world champion talks about how tonight marks the first episode of this company overall as it enters its new era—the APEX Era. After the night they went through, Beowulf can only feel good about himself and what journey this new reign will take him. As the world champion, he acknowledges all the current champions from Alpha & Omega to Luke Smith retaining their titles to congratulating all the new champions in iGeneration (to HEAVY BOOS), Sasuke Uchiha (to a normal volume of boos), Satsuki Kiryūin (to cheers)…and himself (to LOUD cheers). And as the world champion…he expects many great challenges, whether they are a Young Lion or an experienced trouper. He awaits them, no matter who they may be, with patience…and enthusiasm. He is willing to accept ANY and ALL challenges for the thrill of a good match, decide the matter of respect…and simply being the best damn wrestler in this entire company. He had experienced that himself in his second encounter with the former champion, Naruto Uzumaki.
Beowulf could not help but speak fondly of that night, that one match that pushed him to pull out all the stops, even if they were desperate attempts (note: the failed Moonsault spot). Still, he and Naruto put their blood, sweat, tears, hearts and souls into what he personally considers a match to reminisce. A match of the year, dare he say it. And when there's a likely chance for Naruto v. Beowulf III…he'll gladly help complete the trilogy with another victory. A bit cocky for him to say that, but he's got the big gold to back it up. Then, "I Will Not Bow" by Breaking Benjamin plays for Naruto's arrival. Of course, this was expected.
Naruto and Beowulf stand in the ring together, the former wanting to come out and personally congratulate the new APEX World Champion. Naruto could not agree more with what Beowulf has been saying…at least half of it. He gives Beowulf credit for going the distance as did he himself, pulling out new tricks out of their respective hats. This match definitely surpassed their first one…but Naruto chimes an old idiom that the third time is the charm. This gets the crowd excited for what he's building up to…as is Beowulf, though keeping himself composed with only a grin. Naruto held out a hand to Beowulf, proposing if he'll face him for a third and possible final time for the APEX World Title.
…
…And just as it look like Beowulf was about to accept, "Lights Out" by Breaking Benjamin plays. Seto Kaiba appears onstage and ambles his way to the ring, making people wonder what business he has with these two. Kaiba tells Naruto off that it's time for him to quit hogging the world title scene for himself and for someone fresh to challenge Beowulf for the belt. Someone who won't expose any weaknesses during a match. Someone like…Kaiba himself. Naruto's already lost to him twice, so he should just step aside to save himself the embarrassment of losing to him once again. However, Naruto is quick to point out that Kaiba also lost in his match last night…so he's got no right to challenge Beowulf for the title unlike the former champion himself due to a technical rematch clause. And speaking of exposing weaknesses, Kaiba also showed his that night at Summer Wars: he got too damn bigheaded in his match with Ketchum and LOST.
Before Kaiba could try anything, Simple Plan's "Me Against the World" plays for Ash Ketchum's arrival, bringing Kaiba to an even furious state. Ash thanks Naruto for that wonderful reminder, which he will never let Kaiba live down on. To celebrate this victory…why not crash this party with a world championship match with Beowulf and Naruto to make it an interesting Triple Threat at Unforgiven. Though, this only infuriates Kaiba to remind Ash his business is with him and him alone after the humiliation he suffered at Summer Wars…which Ash rebuttals with how hypocritical he's being for interrupting Naruto and Beowulf in the first place just to cover up how he lost to [Ash].
Just as this would continue, "Flash of the Blade" by Avenged Sevenfold would hit the loudspeakers as Vergil and Arkham would add themselves within this argument. Arkham speaks that Kaiba did suffer an embarrassing loss…but he deserves no world championship match. As for Ash, as impressive as it was for him to finally get one victory…one. Out of three victories to his seven losses in APEX. Having that record isn't exactly impressive enough to go after the APEX World Championship, no matter his respectable status as a future Hall of Famer in the FWM. Though, he does agree with Kaiba that a sequel in the form of Naruto v. Beowulf III would be too soon…so as a suggestion, he offers the most recent winner of his own match, Vergil himself, to replace Naruto and challenge Beowulf for his belt. After finally receiving the high of his life at Summer Wars from rightfully defeating his twin, this marks the best time to have a TRUE son of Sparda go for the top-tier belt of this promotion. Naruto, not very keen about this, asks Vergil (or in this case, ridicule) if he's really going to let Arkham do all the talking. Arkham merely scoffed and remained silent as Vergil was handed the mice and replied that it is his job as a manager after all. Furthermore…Vergil has more rights to this than Naruto does—after so much duration he went through and fatigue he suffered, this is the time for Vergil to enjoy his fruits of labor. And not Naruto…Ash…Kaiba…Beowulf or anybody was going to stop him.
Everyone had shared many glares to each other as Beowulf watched on…
…
…but then the lights went out so suddenly…nothing but pitch black onscreen…
…
…
…until blue static slowly fades in on the IgnitionTron…
…
…
…and before anybody knew it, the lights came back on with everybody staring at the big screen alongside Isaac Clarke at the center of the ring! Naruto, Ash and Kaiba were startled as Vergil kept his composure and Beowulf appeared rather surprised at his arrival. Everyone kept staring at Isaac, who stared straight back with an unreadable expression. No one knew what to expect…while the Dead Space protagonist remained silent…and then he took to the mic he snatched from Arkham. Clarke stared down at the microphone for a while, twirling it in his hands and seeming to ponder what words should he speak…
…
…and just as he was about to do so, he gets cut off by General Manager Jesse Alvarez turning up on the IgnitionTron. Alvarez tries to settle everything down before this suddenly turns into a brawl like how all these segments usually turn out for the sake of it. He's here to establish a bit of order as they have a show to run with wrestling talent to expose. So, this is what compromise has come up with: seeing as all five men in the ring have made their statements to come after Beowulf for the APEX World Championship…Naruto will still face the champion as per invoking rematch clause…as will Ash Ketchum…Seto Kaiba…Vergil…and Isaac Clarke in a Six-Pack Challenge (or Severe 6-Way if you wish to say that instead) for the APEX World Championship at Unforgiven!
This was the biggest contest with the most men in history for APEX—this amount of star power in one match as a way to determine every single one of their abilities and Beowulf's true test in becoming a legitimate champion. Jesse then says that if any of them have a problem with that…too bad; they all wanted a shot at Beowulf's gold, this is as good of an opportunity as they can get—so they can take it or leave it. Almost everybody seemed fine with it…Kaiba was more annoyed at Alvarez politicking again, but he had to deal with this difficult challenge…and as for Beowulf…
…he laughed? Not in an arrogant or mocking manner…but more hearty than anything, seeing how he did not expect this to escalate so quickly…but he'll gladly accept all five of these men as worthy challengers for his belt. What better way to hold a first-ever title defense than with the few best of the best in APEX? Beowulf gladly looks forward to his match with all of them and his true testament of legitimacy as APEX World Champion…but make no mistake, for every challenger set against him…he will demolish and bring them down one by one. He welcomes the challenge…but he will not show mercy to any one of them.
The Deathmatch Icon calls out the Billion Dollar King
Recap: Backstage, Robin Scherbatsky interviews Spin the Hedgehog over his new ordeal with Kurt Hudson. She asks why he did what he did, saving Spider-Man in the process and also saving his identity. The former NJPW wrestler explains people like Hudson are to be taken down a peg. He can clearly see Hudson as a spoiled brat who expects everything to be given to him because he's rich. He thinks he should on the top of the card and challenging for the world title. Better yet, he couldn't just stand by and let him do whatever the hell he wants by punishing young Spidey for winning fairly over him. If Hudson can't learn to take his losses like a man, than he shouldn't be in this business. Speaking of which, tonight, Spin DEMANDS a match with the Billion Dollar King as of RIGHT NOW. The second Spin enters that ring, Hudson better get his ass out to that stage so they can settle this like REAL MEN…and this way, he'll be able to humble his jabroni ass.
So he departed from there and we head to commercial…and back from the break, Spin has made his signature entrance towards the ring and appearing all business. Soon as "Endless Possibilities" died out, Spin sat in the middle of the ring with legs crossed and waited…and waited…and waited…and had an elderly beard for some reason as he kept waiting (I'm serious; this happened the moment the camera cut to the stage back to him)…
…and then "I Come from Money" plays…
…
…only that someone else arrived instead. That someone was Hattori Hanzo, Hudson's personal bodyguard, just to fool Spin into thinking that his boss would really show up. Hanzo enlightens Spin that Hudson is not backstage at the moment for he decided to take a day week off. Furthermore…he would rather not waste his time any further with the likes of a "worn-out, ragged, torn-up piece of shit" like the Deathmatch Icon himself. Hudson is better than to entertain an old rat that's WAY past his due for retirement who has exactly NO BUSINESS to interrupt him in the first place. So unless Spin wants to receive the retirement right now, he should leave the ring as soon as possible. But alas…Spin wouldn't have it; hell, he wasn't surprise Hudson would do this kind of crap and send his one and only lackey to clean up his own mess. Though Spin decides to humor Hattori and instead of facing Kurt, he'll face his personal lackey instead; Spin's got a score to even after the last time he faced Hanzo.
"The Reaper" Hattori Hanzo vs. "The Deathmatch Icon" Spin the Hedgehog
Recap: And so, they fought. The first pro-wrestling contest into the APEX Era has begun with Spin the Hedgehog and Hattori Hanzo. Early on, Spin simply outmatched Hanzo by a large amount of experience, pretty much beating respect into the Young Lion. However, for as much ruthless the Deathmatch Icon can be against him, so can Hanzo. And this occurred when he surprisingly caught the Death Kills Big Boot and Dragon Screwed him. Hanzo kept his focus all on the right leg he attacked like a shark smelling blood. He went on a tear into this match and on that limb; Snap DDTs, a Single-leg Boston Crab, lifting the leg and smashing the knee against the canvas, Shin Breakers, and a Flying Figure-four, which nearly got himself disqualified. That didn't bother him that much as he knew how full in control he was in and how much damaged he endured on Spin's leg.
However, Spin remained resilient and refused to give in to the Reaper's wrath. As bad as his leg was hurting, it didn't stop him from actually pulling off Death Kills; he knew it was stupid and risky and won't likely do as much damage, but he was building momentum back on his side. After an Inverted Exploder Suplex into the turnbuckles, Spin brutalized Hanzo in the corner with a Violence Party, striking him with multiple backhand chops, elbows and headbutts and then a Snapmare into football kicks, knees, shoot kicks and finished it off with a Lariat that turned the bodyguard inside out. Just as Spin was set to end this match with a victory by way of a K.O. Elbow, winding up his arm…Kurt Hudson suddenly springs up on the apron in casual clothing, yelling at the hedgehog with insults. Referee Shawn Yeager became distracted, telling Hudson to leave immediately and Spin made an attempt to knock him off…but Hanzo recovered long enough to hit a low blow from behind! He then takes him out with Reap and Sorrow (Spinning Headlock Lariat), Hudson stepping down to allow the referee to count the victory for his bodyguard.
The sight of Spin the Hedgehog lying flat on his back in humiliating defeat amused Kurt…so after Maria Lopez announced Hattori Hanzo as the winner, the Billion Dollar King slid in the ring…brought Spin back to his feet…and takes the "honor" of low blowing him again with a kick in his lower regions! Spin crumbles in excruciating pain as Hudson mounts him with slow, yet brutal punches to the skull. The referee wanted to stop this, but Hanzo simply pushed him aside to let his boss continue the punishment to Spin. Hanzo yelled quite vulgar words at the Hall of Famer, letting out all his frustrations on him, blaming him and everyone in APEX for the position he's in the card. By the end, Kurt just set him up for Hudson $treet and drives him down into the canvas, folding him up on his neck. Kurt stood over the motionless hedgehog with a venomously loud chorus of boos raining over him, then he has Spin facing up just to shove a $100 bill in his mouth. "That bill you're choking on is worth more than your whole damn life, you peasant son of a bitch; buy yourself something pretty for your whore you call your 'wife'," says Hudson before leaving the ring with Hanzo behind him.
Later backstage, Mike "The Mic" Martin tried to catch an interview with Kurt Hudson as he was entering the locker room, but Hanzo proved worth as a bodyguard by snatching the microphone away and threatening to break his wrist should he continue. In Hanzo's words, Hudson is "in no mood or manner to speak about his actions." However, he does leave a message that this is just the beginning of his rise back to the top where he belongs…for as long as the pissants like Spin the Hedgehog "stay the f*ck out of [Kurt's] way" and everybody can get along just fine. Otherwise…consequences like what happened to the Deathmatch Icon tonight will continue.
"The Billion Dollar Queen" Alyssa Parker vs. "The Green-haired Lunatic" Christa Moxley
Recap: Christa…was an angry young woman. Last week, she suffered defeat at Aelita's hands, though remained defiant all the way to the end as she never tapped out to her Lyoko Lock II. Still, as much praise and respect she's received from fans since, Moxley wished she could've shut her damn mouth and end her streak for good…but she had to accept the fact it wouldn't be her to do it as someone will do it eventually. For now, she had a match to attend to…one against an arrogant Alyssa Parker, who would finally be making her singles debut after being in two tag matches in the previous months.
Though this would be a match for the sake of wrestling, Alyssa made it a little personal by deriding Christa's lack of victories and questioning in an insulting manner on how she still remains in ACW in its APEX Era. On her way to the ring, young Parker tells off to Moxley that this new era has no place for "filthy, disgusting, poor degenerates" like her. This company is on the path of a glorious rebirth as Apex Caliber Wrestling alongside the Women's Division given certain events this past Sunday at Summer Wars…and taking Moxley out will make nice room for the Billion Dollar Queen as the future APEX World Women's Champion…while Moxley rots nicely in a dirty alley where she rightfully belongs. If Christa wasn't pissed off before…then she is NOW.
The moment the bell rang, Christa furiously charged after Alyssa into a double leg takedown, raining down wild fists on top of her. She REFUSED to let up on her strikes, wanting to absolutely beat the stuffing out of Parker for her provoking words. If Christa can't take it out on Aelita, then she might as well take it out on someone close to her in terms of personality. Referee Aiko Tanahashi has tried many times to break the two away, so far as to put her hands on Christa and keep her in the corner until she calmed down. Even so, Christa would go right back after Alyssa for her beating…until when she tried a second time to get away from the official, Alyssa took advantage with a deep raking to her eyes and then a hair-pull mat slam. It's here and there Alyssa shows her vicious side…and it's clear who she got it from. While talking down at Christa in her shrieks, Alyssa profusely slaps her in the face and stomps her chest in at the corner. "You don't get to touch me!" she screams in Christa's face. "You are nowhere CLOSE to my high class of society, you HARLOT! You FREAK!"
Alyssa kept the insults up while staying on top of Christa, blasting her head in with a running knee strike and landing a Walk in the Park (Cartwheel Moonsault). For a valet, she was actually doing much better than anyone else ever expected. Alas, her constant mocking proved to be her downfall as Alyssa talked too much during her Cobra Clutch set-up and this gave Christa the chance to elbow her kidneys, spin herself out with Alyssa's twisted arm in hand and pull her into a Moxicity (Spinning Side Slam). She then would knock Parker nearly senseless against the turnbuckles after a John Woo Kick. Alyssa nearly got back in the driver's seat after escaping a Suplex set-up, but missed a Running Discus Clothesline as Christa ducked and smoothly hooked her up into the Splitting Deeds, keeping her leg over Alyssa and gaining a victory over her.
Christa doesn't have much to celebrate over, but she was glad to at least shut someone up for once…at least momentarily. Later on backstage, Alyssa complained to Head of the Women's Division Lily Aldrin over reversing the decision in her match. Aldrin obviously cannot do that as Christa won fair and square…but if it's a rematch she wants, she'll get it. However, regarding recent events, it'll be a Mixed Tag Team Match in two weeks on Ignition XI with her and Kurt Hudson against the team of Spin the Hedgehog and Christa Moxley. Alyssa can't see why not; she has more confidence with her fellow billionaire by her side…and together, they'll CRUSH the "competition" best known as "filthy peasants."
In-ring Segment – The Cunning Wolf seeks to continue evolving
Recap: Luke Smith's first challenger has come and gone. Considering how PewDiePie's mood appeared after failing to capture the APEX Evolve Championship, the current champion believed that he has finally realized where he truly stands as nothing more than a NUISANCE. Still, though, he did not expect a challenge out of that very nuisance. His first challenge for the belt was not how he wished it could've gone, but he had no other option but to retain the belt. He didn't think he'd be forced to pull out new tricks from his hat against PewDiePie of all people. Nonetheless, with Felix out of the way, Smith is just in time to enter the APEX Era anew and bring prestige into the belt that should a stepping stone to the World Championship itself. The Evolve Title certainly had a rocky start with strange name changes, but with Smith, he believes he'll bring righteousness to the belt by the next five months and so on and so forth. For Lady Justitia…for all of The Wolves.
But then, "Unsettling Differences" by Blue Smock Nancy played…and out came The Perfect 10 of Joker's Hand, James Griffin. Funny enough, his arrival brought out the "Ten!" chants by the smarks in the audience. James can't say this wasn't expected, but he made the right choice to ignore "the neckbeards who only have enough courage to leave their basements and chant stupid shit such as this." Moving on, James gets down to business. He tells Luke he was admittedly impressed by his recent title retention and how their respective resulting situations are rather…similar. Smith ensured PewDiePie's claim for a rematch will never come to pass and Griffin himself has rid of a nuisance in the form of a New Enigma. With their own thorns removed from their side…James thought it was finally time to claim what's rightfully due to him: an APEX Evolve Championship match. When Luke won whole tournament and unified all the belts into a new one, there were three more people involved—PewDiePie, Dante…and James Griffin himself. He figured it's only right for someone as "self-righteous" as Smith to grant him this challenge.
The Cunning Wolf was quite unsure at first, noting James' allegiance to the Royal Hand…and for what they represent. Anarchy. Bedlam. Chaos. Hell. Pandemonium. What Smith represents alongside his brothers-in-arms is JUSTICE. Honesty. Integrity. Fairness. All of which…got him boos, as the crowd know how full of crap he is and began chanting PewDiePie's name…to which Smith easily shut down in saying, "He's on RAMPAGE, you IDIOTS. Chant for someone who actually represents this brand!" Carrying on…Smith looked Griffin dead in the eye…and said that he would love nothing more than help him see through the eyes of Lady Justitia. Griffin's response: "You know…they say Joker and the lot in his Royal Hand are crazy…but you're BAT-SH*T crazy with that justice talk, Smith."
Just as they were getting ready for this impromptu contest, "Unstoppable" by Motionless in White blasts from the speakers for a pleasantly surprise arrival by "The Lone Devil Hunter" Nero. The Devil May Cry 4 protagonist couldn't help himself but interrupt this particular scene. To be frank, he'd rather not stay in the back and be bored to death from watching two unlikable assholes fight for the title, to which the fans agreed. Not that this is any of his business and he could care less for the insane perspective of these two…but if James is after a title shot, then Nero might as well crash the party and add himself to the list. James outright demands Nero to stay out of this, having no need for his BS interrupting a title match that's been rightfully his long ago while Nero himself has no right to be here. But Nero gives NO fucks. He boldly tells James straight that just because he's in an alliance with The Joker doesn't mean it can scare him ONE BIT. James SWEARS to make him eat his words…
…
…until "Taking You Down" by Egypt Central, the final song for this segment, plays to an intrigued reaction by the San Diego natives. Rising from the stage below, Daniel Kent returns to APEX anew; his body appeared highly more muscular than ever, still with the same brown buzz-cut, remembered with slight tanned skin, brown eyes, a scar that runs from his right shoulder blade to his right elbow, now weighing 262 pounds, and with a black and red Phoenix tattoo that completely covers his back. His new attire came in red and black MMA shorts, black MMA gloves, black wrestling boots and knee braces. He meets his gaze with all three men in the ring, marching towards them with a stoic expression. Jumping onto the apron, he enters the ring as James brashly tells him to screw off…
…at least before Daniel suddenly grabbed him and VAULTED him over the top rope with an Overhead Belly-to-belly Suplex! Nero charged in without a thought and he paid the price after Daniel ducked and blasted him with a Superman Punch followed up by an Exploder Suplex! And Luke…slipped out of the ring, wisely not wanting to suffer Kent's wrath as said two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion bellowed at the top of his lungs, much to the crowd's liking. Daniel then simmers down his intensity and locks his eyes right on Luke Smith and his Evolve Championship. He took to a random mic from the canvas…and stated, "All of you talk too damn much." He made it clear that he wanted the title as well…and he'll do so by kicking everybody's ass.
Before this truly spiraled out of control, Jesse Alvarez appears once again on the IgnitionTron to help settle things. He does understand Luke Smith is in need of a real challenge for his Evolve Championship…and knows James is not wrong—he is due for a potential title shot as he was involved in the Ultimate X Match. However…Nero and Daniel Kent involving themselves does make things a bit more interesting. He makes it official: next week, on the milestone episode of Ignition X, there will be a FATAL 4-WAY for the Evolve Championship as Luke must defend against those in the ring with him. James…was rather pissed, let's say that much; Nero may have expected this, so he shrugged; Daniel Kent simply pounded his fists together; and Luke held onto his belt like it was his most valuable possession. He wanted a challenge and he got it, so Jesse pointed out…but it was not what Luke had in mind at all as he was stuck in this similar situation again.
As for tonight, to hype up the Fatal 4-Way contest, Jesse declares that right now, the team of Nero and Daniel Kent shall take on the team of Luke Smith and James Griffin. Reaction update: Nero rolled his eyes as he prefers working alone, Daniel scoffs, James gets more pissed and a disgusted Luke is questioning Alvarez's sanity as of this moment. But Jesse smirks and wishes them all luck before being cut off from the big screen. Now everybody had to reluctantly start teaming up in their corners as referee Andrew Styles comes out to officiate the impromptu tag team match coming up after the break.
"The Cunning Wolf" Luke Smith and "The Perfect 10" James Griffin vs. "The Lone Devil Hunter" Nero and "Machine Gun" Daniel Kent
Recap: It's an understatement that not one of these guys like each other as tag partners…but when it comes to wins and losses mattering, they might as well have no choice but to put their differences aside and work together for now. They just have to get this match done with only one pair of winners and move on to return to being enemies again for next week. James and Daniel started things off out of the former wanting a little vengeance for the latter tossing him over like a rag doll. Both showed power well, but Kent surpassed everyone's expectations in repeatedly dominating Griffin with his MMA and mat-based technical wrestling abilities. Kent had nothing but focus in his eyes as he never let up on his strikes and holds. Why, he brought James in an empty corner for a series of slow, yet excruciating knife edge chops, lighting up his opponent's chest.
When it came to trading tags with Nero…let's say they were forced to tag themselves in and neither of them liked it when they did it. Strangely, though, they enjoyed one-upping each other. For example, James was cornered in Nero and Daniel's side and the former has tagged himself in, proceeding to stomp his chest in. Then when Kent tagged himself in, he shoved his partner away to perform a series of turnbuckle trusts into James' abdomen. Back and forth they went until James had enough, shouting at them to cut their crap…before they simultaneously elbowed both sides of his face, practically knocking him out.
Fun as the match turned out to be, James turns things around for himself when he carried Nero all the way over to his corner and finally tagged out to the APEX Evolve Champion. It was up to Luke to bring all the momentum onto his side with James. After stomping down on Nero repeatedly in the corner, he tags out to a recovered James to let his frustrations out on him, clubbing him and kneeing the half-demon for making a fool out of him before. Standing him against the turnbuckles, James proceeds with a Corner Clothesline and then nails a Northern Lariat off the ropes thereafter. One Turnbuckle Powerbomb later, James tags in Luke and the two actually cooperate to execute a Spinning Sitout Powerbomb / Blockbuster combination. Nero wasn't about to just roll over and die, though, as he was able to find moments of overcoming the two-on-one disadvantage. He has come close to hot-tagging Daniel, but it end up usually failing whether they yank Nero farther back or knock Daniel off the apron.
Eventually, Nero does manage to turn the tables as he avoided a Bicycle Kick, letting Luke eat the boot instead as James comes into shock from his accident. Then he catches him with Dropkick, countering his pop-up attempt. It's there that Nero darts over to the corner and willingly tags out to Kent, who enters the ring like a house of fire! Two clotheslines to James, a Muay Tai combination à la CM Punk, and then proceeds to take him to Suplex City: Capture Suplex, Overhead Belly-to-Belly Suplex, a trio of German Suplexes, an Exploder into the turnbuckles…and ending with a Fisherman Suplex, stalling the move…stalling…delaying…for a full thirty seconds before dropping James right on his back. James has been tossed around silly like a rag doll, shown by how glazed over his eyes are. Daniel Kent winds up the arm for the incoming One Hit Wonder (Bull Hammer Elbow)…but James ducked and caught Daniel on his shoulders, planting him with The Perfect Storm (F5)!
He doused the fire for now, but he still needed a tag so Luke can take over and turn the tables back on their side. James dragged his own body to the corner as fast as he can with a hand out toward Luke's…and Luke drops down from the apron, leaving him hanging! Griffin, SHOCKED in betrayal, shouts what reason he has for this and Luke states that James is on his own and he sure as hell isn't taking the fall for him. Luke is basically abandoning his own partner! The APEX Evolve Champion takes his belt and starts walking out as James shouts vulgarly at him and calls him to come back and tag him, reminding him who he's REALLY screwing over. Luke clearly ignored his threats and kept walking, telling the cameraman next to him that James is nothing but DEAD WEIGHT to him; he knew he'd just drag him down. James kept his glare on the Evolve Champion…before turning around to a Blue Rose forearm by Nero! Kent tagged out while James was busy cursing at Luke abandoning him. James stands…and eats a straight-up Superkick to the jaw! With him facing away, Nero puts him in a cravate/leg-hook combo…and drives him down with a Red Queen (Joker's Joker-Plex [Three-quarter Facelock Leg-hook Belly-to-back Suplex]) for the bridging pinfall victory!
Nero and Daniel take home a tag team win for tonight's episode as their hands are raised high by referee Andrew Styles…and the moment he let go, Kent immediately attacked Nero and hurled him over with a Release German Suplex! This took a few folk by surprise, but everyone does quickly remember now that this tag match is over, they're back to being enemies and Kent certainly wanted to remind them all just that as he then kept treating Nero like a rag doll with an endless variety of Suplexes before dropping him on his head with a Cardiac Unrest (Quackendriver II [Cross-legged Reverse Piledriver])! Kent stands tall over Nero and James, beating his chest…then looks straight to his right at the stage where Luke Smith resides with his Evolve Championship held against his chest. The last shot had Kent giving a cutthroat gesture as Smith raises his title high up, declaring he'll remain champion for as long as justice is by his side.
Backstage Segment – Takashi and Kohta are on the hunt for tag title gold…while another seeks them as prey
Recap: Robin Scherbatsky stands at the interview zone, introducing her guests, Takashi Komuro and Kohta Hirano of the rechristened Apocalypse Academy. After welcoming them, Robin takes the time to recap their recent events against the Gods of Darkness, whom they finished their trilogy with in a successful victory after Summer Wars in a steel cage. It's clear from the bandages they have covering their wounds that they went through Hell and came back in one piece. Komuro is the first to admit that they barely did so, but he was just as happy to finally move on from them. Robin asks what's next for them and Kohta gave a simple answer: the World Tag Team Championships. After all the hell they've gone through, they deserve a little gold for their troubles. Now they know well enough that Alpha & Omega are unlikely to just give them a title shot due to the Altered Egos/Symbiotes match tonight and the upcoming RAMPAGE Tag Team League Hour by tomorrow…but in Takashi's words, who says it has to be Alpha & Omega? Whether it's them, Altered Egos or the Symbiotes, it doesn't matter who the World Tag Team Champions are, because by the end of the day, he and Kohta are coming after those belts…and there's not a damn thing anyone can do to stop them.
However, someone would disagree with them…and that comes from Erik Rollins flanked by Hannibal Ambrose and Damian Reigns, The Wolves making an appearance to interrupt this interview segment. Erik couldn't help but chuckle in a mocking manner, questioning that Komuro and Hirano are WORTHY to even touch tag team gold. Thing is…considering how high their momentum is now…The Wolves are on a hunt for prey…and who better than a rebellious punk and his "fat friend," a comment to which Kohta snarled at them for. The Wolves have dominated for a time when they were Trios Champions—the FIRST ONES EVER, in fact—but with no such division existing, they might as well break into the famous tag team division and take it over, starting with Komuro and Hirano as their first prey to do just that.
Takashi brings up a stinging fact that since they lost the Trios Championships, they haven't had a lot of luck. This clearly got to the Wolves, especially as Hannibal came close to ripping Takashi's head off with his bare hands if Damian hadn't held him back with a singular arm. Erik can't deny that, much as that is brutal to hear…but the past is the past. There's no time to focus on that and no point of Komuro bringing it up. Although, if he recalls correctly, The Wolves beat Komuro and Hirano in a previous tournament of their own, which Takashi quickly pointed out it was only because of the freaks known as Bakura and Marik. Still, in Rollins' case…a win is a win.
Now since it's clear these two teams aren't likely to get title shots any time soon, they may as well fight for it and see who the better team is overall. Ignition X's card is rather full, so instead, Rollins declares a match…a Handicap Match. The Wolves take on Komuro and Hirano at Unforgiven to see who the better team truly is. But since none of The Wolves can't wait to take down their prey, Rollins also suggest a few matches for the remaining two episodes of Ignition before Unforgiven, just to hype up what's to come then. Takashi and Kohta look to each other…and they nod, the former telling Erik they accept their challenge. They'll see each other in two weeks now…and they'll be prepared to bring their best as The Wolves leave and purposely bump shoulders with Komuro and Hirano, who look on with glares.
In-ring Segment – APEX World Women's Champion Satsuki Kiryūin stands as the new guardian for the Women's Division
Recap: Another new champion has arrived. "Steel Queen" Satsuki Kiryūin, the current APEX World Women's Champion, stands before a supporting crowd in San Diego as they chant her name and thank her for preventing The Change from happening. Satsuki, while keeping to her formal stature, knew when to smile lightly and nod at their gratitude. With a microphone in hand and the newly designed APEX World Women's Championship around her waist, Satsuki states that she couldn't be any more prouder than to be a champion of this division that desperately needed a revival after its tediousness in the previous era. No disrespect towards the original champion, of course. Regarding where she stands, Satsuki ensures that as the APEX Era is here and now, she will represent the redeemed Women's Division wholly as the new APEX Women's Champion of the World proudly.
First, there's important business to attend to…and that's calling out the original champion herself, Téa Gardner. Everyone saw how upset Téa appeared when she lost her belt and Satsuki understood…but she refuses to show pity on her. Someone who claimed to represent the division through and through, good or bad, cannot be allowed to be pitied on. She knows Téa is a grown woman and mature enough to make the right decisions…one of them being coming to this ring and speak what's been on her mind since. So Satsuki waited…and waited…
…and waited…
…and waited…
…and waited…
…
…until…
…
…"Lo Horsemen" by Smoke DZA featuring Thirstin Howl III, Meyhem Lauren, and NymLo played…and out came the Four Horsewomen, the audience BOMBARDING them with boos. But it's clear they paid NO attention to their reactions…because they were ALL pissed, especially Mai Valentine, as they made a straight walk down to the ring. APEX Women's Tag Team Champions iGeneration and Aelita stayed behind as Mai had a mic with her the whole time and stood on the apron for now. She mockingly asked, "Expecting someone else? Sorry, hon…but after what you've done, did you think we were going to let you get away THAT easily?"
Mai went on a rant how she should be in that ring with the World Women's Title that's tainted by Kiryūin. She tells her that she had NO BUSINESS interfering with her match—interfering with Mai Valentine, the TRUE uncrowned World Women's Champion. But here we are…and now that Satsuki got what she wanted…Mai says that it's time for "Lady Satsuki" to pay the piper. During so, Carly, Sam and Aelita began to surround the ring slowly. Although, Satsuki doesn't seem intimidated and doesn't even take her eyes off of Mai.
The leader of the Four Horsewomen continued on: "Before you do…let me explain who we are, little girl. We are the Four Horsewomen. A faction bent on taking all the gold in every promotion we're in from GAIA to CCW to WWE to APEX. A group with goals to ensure that The Change is complete. A stable inspired by the real-life male counterpart…but you know who else they were inspired by? The REAL Four Horsemen of the Goddamn Apocalypse. Respectively, they symbolize Conquest or Pestilence…War…Famine…and Death. The Horsewomen, right now…are unhappy with your actions at Summer Wars…and now because of that…we're here to bring truth to our stable's name… And it won't just be you, Kiryūin. No…oh, no, that's FAR too easy. We are going to take out EVERY SINGLE WOMAN in this division along with you. Your actions will bring DIRE consequences to the Women's Division…and we are going to make sure that they HATE YOUR GUTS for what you did until you give me what I want…and that's what's around your waist. So with that said…any last words?"
Mai grew a bit of a smug expression, but remained her anger. Satsuki still never took her eyes off of Valentine. Then she would raise the mic to her lips and said, "You wish to bring destruction to the Women's Division…because you're playing the spoiled brat over not getting what you want? …Go ahead. Do what you want. I don't care of my fellow wrestlers hate me…because I have no regrets whatsoever for cashing in on your match. I have no regrets ruining your goals of running down this division just to satisfy your pathetic ego. What I did…was for VENGEANCE. Remember my debut match? I sure as hell do…and you RUINED IT just to ensure my 'victory' while keeping Kendra Daniels out of the title match for Summer Wars. So…I guess we're EVEN now. Wouldn't you agree?"
Satsuki drops her mic and stands ready for a fight…while the Horsewomen remain on the aprons…and Mai eventually replies, "Satsuki…oh, sweet, ignorant Satsuki…that's the thing…like my friend, Sam, I'm not about getting even…I'm about DESTROYING you and getting MY World Women's Championship BACK." Now the leader drops the mic and all four Horsewomen enter the ring, Satsuki being quick to boot Mai's head in before landing a Shoot Kick to an oncoming Puckett's chest! Satsuki ducks a fist from Carly as she nails Aelita with a Back Elbow and starts firing rigid forearms to the temple. Then she flips her over with a Snapmare, hits the ropes…and gets BLASTED with a Spear by Puckett, who immediately mounts and rams her fists into her skull! Now the rest of the Horsewomen join Sam in stomping the new World Women's Champion down into the canvas! Satsuki is left completely defenseless from this four-on-one assault as it eventually comes down to Mai Valentine screaming down at the prone and injured champion, shoving the belt in her face that it is hers—it SHOULD be hers right now if it was not for her cash-in…and now she's going to PAY. Her and EVERYONE in the women's locker room.
Mai, with the assistance of her Horsewomen, sought for a DEVASTATING Piledriver onto the belt…as the San Diego crowd ROARED with disapproval as Markiplier BEGGED and PLEADED Mai not to do it. But she shouts, "IT'S TOO LATE! FOR HER OR ANYBODY TO STOP US!"
…
…
…Mai lifts Satsuki offer her feet…
…and "With Legs Like That" by Zebrahead plays to an EXPLOSIVE POP. The Horsewomen dropped everything they were doing to turn to the stage…seeing nobody come out after around fifteen seconds…
…but a few more seconds later, Téa Gardner appears…FROM BEHIND, landing a chair-aided Dropkick to the back of Carly's head! The Horsewomen are startled and charge forward, but Téa is quick to avoid them all and able to send a chair shot into Sam's skull! And another straight to Aelita's gut! Swing towards Mai…and she ducked and rolled out of the ring, not wanting to feel the wrath of Téa's violent attack. While she left unscathed, her teammates are left to feel the effects as they writhe in pain. Téa and Mai kept their eyes locked on each other…almost a minute passing by…until Téa turned to Satsuki regaining consciousness in the corner. The former champion picks up the belt, walks to Satsuki…helps her up by her hand…and gives the strap back to her, keeping those hands clutched around it. On this special moment, Téa quips, "You really should learn to keep an important belt like this one close to you. That's some advice I can give you."
Satsuki was a bit dumbfounded at Téa's true arrival…but she does thank her for the save. In any case…Téa grabs a fallen microphone and speaks: "So…you wanted me out here, Satsuki? Here I am. Wish I was early, but it's better than letting these four kill your reign so short with a likely concussion if they succeeded that Piledriver. Now…everybody wants to know what I think about Satsuki as the new champion… To cut it short…I couldn't be happier to lose the belt than to someone I know and trust to help bring life into this division as the new guardian. And I'm glad it was you, Satsuki. …But at the same time…you did pin me…so it's only fair…that I get my rematch for the World Women's Championship." Another roar occurs in excitement for the first-ever singles bout between Satsuki and Téa, the thought of it already enough to cheer for. It's official; Téa is invoking her rematch clause for the title. Where? What else than Unforgiven?
…
However…Téa is a fair woman as well…and as much as she despises the Horsewomen, she still has an amount of respect towards Mai…and vice versa. So the deal is this: Ignition X, Téa Gardner versus Mai Valentine…in the main event…and if Mai wins, she gets to be part of the match as a Triple Threat. Téa wins, it remains a singles match between her and Satsuki. And this was a challenge she's laying out for Mai. They've had two great matches…but there NEVER was a winner between them due to the first ending in a draw and the second having Satsuki cashing in. Téa v. Mai III shall be the TRUE third time being a charm to see WHO is the BEST between them. Mai thinks on her respectable rival's words…looks around the crowd…and points to Téa to say, "You got it, Friendship Girl."
So it is set. The series of Téa Gardner versus Mai Valentine is about to become a trilogy in APEX. No excuses. No shenanigans. Just both fantastic female wrestlers going at it in the squared circle by next week. All in the MAIN EVENT for the first time in ACW history overall! What a hell of a time to be a fan of this promotion.
Hinata Hyuga vs. Samantha Hart
Recap: This match…was definitely needed. After what happened to cause Hart of Hyuga to lose their Women's Tag Team Titles to iGeneration, management figured this would be right to help them blow off steam. Especially for Samantha Hart, who was, more or less, the victim in all of this after Hinata accidentally elbowed her from behind blinded by Carly and Sam. Before then, a backstage segment occurred between the two. Samantha was gearing herself up, almost like she was about to FIGHT rather than wrestle…and this nearly frightened her tag partner. Hinata knew she was mad, but she didn't think she'd be pissed. The meek Hyuga tried to set things straight, telling Samantha the absolute truth that she didn't elbow her on purpose. They are a TEAM—they are Hart of Hyuga. As much as Samantha didn't like Hinata, they had a good amount of respect for each other and had a common goal to stop the Horsewomen from taking over the entire division. Samantha did agree, thankfully…but that doesn't stop this match from being canceled…and Hinata knew that…so she merely wanted good competition between them and hope to bring the best out of each other. Afterwards, they can go back to chasing iGeneration for a rematch. That's something Samantha looks forward to…and the two fist bumped each other before Hinata left…just so Samantha's small smirk returned to being a scowl.
Now, here in the ring, the two stand across from each other with referee John Benoit in-between them. John is typically used for when it comes down to being strict with the rules, though these two are known to follow them well. Even so, he was recruited just in case this match goes array considering their history. Both partners stand close with the English official gesturing they shake hands…and Hinata holds hers out first. Samantha only stares down at it, not doing so immediately, but taking a while to respond as well. A worried expression grows over Hinata's again, fearing these moments are what could lead to their breakup…but thankfully, Samantha looks up to nod and shakes her partner's hand. Now Hinata can wrestle this match without holding back and likewise for Samantha while Benoit separates the two and calls for the opening bell.
Hinata and Samantha put up a nice, slow pace at the start, making sure to get a good feel of each other through grappling holds and takedowns. Both were rather very evasive, quick to escape and dodge each other, almost as if they knew what they were going to do before they could even try. Samantha was actually able to keep up with Hinata's technical prowess. But Hinata had to get a little tricky, mislead her partner in order to succeed at least a hold on her; she performed a single leg takedown, as if going for a type of submission targeting that limb…when she really floated over and succeeded to wrap her arms around Samantha's head for a headlock. Samantha does rise from her predicament, but only onto her knees as Hinata shifts things around and locks her in a Japanese Stranglehold. Clearly, Samantha wouldn't be quitting so early and easily like this, but Hinata did plan for her to sit back down so she can let go and land a stiff soccer kick to the spine.
Young Hinata had early control of this contest, easily getting the better of her tag partner…just until Samantha finally decided to get aggressive where she escaped an Inverted Headlock by spinning out and nails a Short-arm Spear, practically cutting Hinata in half. Samantha takes her turn to display her newfound technical skills, one highlight featuring her pressing a knee down against a prone Hinata's head while she manipulates the wrist and arm to excruciating pain. The raven-haired athlete kept this new style and her aggressiveness going just as she was about to execute a Superplex…but Hinata had barely managed to slide down and Shoot Kicks the back of Samantha's left leg, resulting a nasty fall on the back of her neck! That sight was horrifying to watch, Hinata immediately felt guilty for doing such a thing. The official nearly stopped the match with Samantha's lack of responses…but he felt his pant leg tugged…and Samantha is seen stirring, bringing herself back to life…and glares heavily up at Hinata. It's clear now that Samantha does not want this match to end just yet…not until she wins.
It was from then on, after that moment, both tag team partners kicked it into high gear against each other. Despite the possible concussion from her sickening landing, Samantha acted as if she never received it in the first place from how more brutal she wrestled and fought Hinata. Kind as she is, the Byakugan Princess was no pushover either. Even to her own partner, who she truly considers with respect, gave back as much aggressive strikes and holds as Samantha. It came close to ending when Hinata jumped off the corner and got caught in a cradle hold, Samantha readying her Pitch Back DDT (Cradle DDT)…but Hinata had let herself be caught on purpose so she can apply the Gentle Wrist Lock (Jim Breaks Special)! And Lord, does she have it cinched in! Samantha was SCREAMING in pain, coming close to fall on her knees, but refused. She got desperate to toss Hinata over the ropes, only able to break off the Elevated Wrist-lock. Afterwards, she blocked a right hand and kicks her head in with an Enzuigiri. As Hinata is outside, Samantha quickly runs for the ropes…and performs a Topé Suicida! Immediately afterwards, she gets her partner back inside the ring…carries her off her feet in a cradle…and spikes her head with the Pitch Black DDT…only to a devastating rope break! Hinata had damn good in-ring IQ to know where she was at despite getting her head rung, much to Sam's dismay.
In fact, no matter how many times Samantha puts Hinata down, she always gets back up and it frustrated her. At one point, Samantha dragged Hinata by her hair into the corner and repeatedly smacked her face before mercilessly stomping her chest in. Referee John Benoit knew he was here for a reason as he was forced to get personal, grabbing onto Hart and pulling her away so Hinata has some breathing room. He merely gave a scolding warning as Samantha glared at him for intervening. Thankfully, she chose to calm down before going after a rising Hinata…who shoves her grabbing arms away and strikes her chest in with a Gentle Palm! Samantha stumbles back nursing that area…and Hinata rushes her with a Step-up Enzuigiri! The former heiress of the Hyuga Clan starts bringing momentum back to her side now…faking out a roundhouse kick followed by a legsweep…which Samantha hopped over…and lands a Side Kick to Hinata's face! And a knee strike! Third time's a charm as Samantha hits the ropes…but runs straight into a Fireman's Carry! She came close to a Hyuga's Way…if it wasn't for Samantha escaping with an elbow…and driving her down with a Jumping Neckbreaker. Hinata sits up holding her head…Samantha runs past her to the ropes…and takes a page right out of her partner's book with a Penalty Kick straight to the chest! It wasn't perfect, but the kick got the job done…just was not enough for a pinfall. The crowd was finding it hard to believe that these two gals are tag team partners.
Now here is where Samantha began to appear desperate. It's almost like she forgot what this match was really about, the emotions truly getting to her. She sought one option: Decent to Oblivion. She figured that has to do it, as hazardous as it is to pull it off with its dark history. She didn't care at this point; she wanted to win and she'll do whatever it takes. Up on the top turnbuckle, Samantha goes…standing tall above all in the ring…everyone's eyes all on her, the audience standing up together…and she dives, arms spread out like an eagle…
…
…and she COMPLETELY MISSES THE MARK! Hinata rolled out of the way out of the last second, leaving Samantha to face-plant HARD! The raven-haired competitor shoots to her feet, nursing her face in complete pain as the referee checks on her…before moving out of the way as Hinata leaps with her feet hooking under her arms, rolling her up to a bridging cradle pin…and she gets the victory!
Hinata was very well relieved it was all over here. It felt like a long roller coaster for her to go through with her tag partner, but she was just happy to get it done. However, as her hand is raised…Samantha was very disappointed of the outcome. She was found in the corner nursing her nose in case it was bleeding or broken after missing the Diving Headbutt. She couldn't tell what was worse—the possible concussion or this loss she had to take after pulling out all the stops just to beat Hinata. But she failed. And she hated that. She couldn't help but express her vexation, clutching onto her hair and burying her face in her knees.
But Hinata comes up to her, slightly hunched over with hands on her knees…and Samantha looks up to see her extend a hand. She only glares and Hinata tells her that she didn't like this as much as she does…but couldn't ask for a better opponent than her tonight. The two kept their eyes locked on each other alone as Samantha uses the ropes for assistance and brings herself up to her vertical base. The handshake is still offered…but the frustration and anger still exists on Samantha's face, rubbing her hands down on it…before she shakes her head and walks past Hinata. She just couldn't shake her hand due to her stubbornness and pride. The audience boo to this response while Hinata is left disappointed herself, watching her partner leave through the ropes. Though, she stops and listens to the crowd's pleading, telling her to go back and accept her sportsmanship offer like an adult—a true friend…and so she does…just to slap Hinata's hand away…and pull her into a hug; a side hug, to be specific.
This moment brought the 12,000 capacity crowd in the in the Valley View Casino Center to enormous cheers, absolutely adoring this sight of two partners united. Samantha still hated losing…but she admittedly grew fond of their partnership as did Hinata. Hart raises Hinata's hand to personally declare her a winner of this match and now Hart of Hyuga can officially focus on regaining their tag titles very soon.
Speaking of the titles, we head backstage where iGeneration are found in the luxury box with their APEX Women's Tag Team Championships…one of them (namely Sam Puckett) apparently "yawning" out of complete "boredom." They were approached by Robin Scherbatsky, asking them for their thoughts on this match and what's to come by next week on Ignition X when Hart of Hyuga and iGeneration go at it for the belts. Carly said they have no need to answer such a redundant question; they had already beaten them before and they'll gladly do it all over again. The Change is delayed for now, but the inevitable will soon come. Very soon…the Four Horsewomen will claim their destiny as RULERS of the entire Women's Division and NOBODY will stop them from making that happen.
Backstage Segment – Altered Egos prepare for the climactic battle with the Symbiotes
Recap: It all comes down to this match now; Yugi and Atem are getting ready for what will be a hell of a tag team fight against the Symbiotes. Since their arrival, the Symbiotes have been bent to destroy and conquer for the World Tag Team Titles. After the loss at Rebellion, Venom and Carnage purely blamed Altered Egos for eliminating them first from the match and it resulted a month of VIOLENT matches and assaults. Yugi had been put on the shelf for around a month after suffering a Venomous Carnage, resulting a spinal injury that nearly got him paralyzed. Then Atem would try to avenge Yugi against the Symbiotes in a Street Fight, which he failed to do so. Yugi did come back that same night to prevent the Marvel characters from executing the same dangerous finisher that took him out for the time being.
Although, as good at it is for Yugi to return and be together with Atem again, the latter has his concerns over his condition. Funny enough, Yugi asked him the same thing after his violent Street Fight bout. Still, Yugi suffered worse, having to barely move for a week or so since that incident at Rebellion. He understood that and what's at stake tonight with their rematch clause with Alpha & Omega on the line…but what happened then is in the past. Right now, Yugi and Atem have to remain focused on taking out the Symbiotes and face A&O once more if they're to become the first-ever two-time champs. All Yugi asks is to not worry a lot, much as he appreciates the concern. Atem was…rather reluctant…but he nods. He doesn't have to like it, but he'll go with it for now. However, he states that Yugi promises to not do anything reckless and if anything goes wrong, Atem will take over everything. Yugi couldn't argue with that…but he can't say the promise will be made, so he'll try.
As they've come to an understanding, they receive a surprise visit…a visit from Téa Gardner herself entering the room. Yugi comes up to her, happy that she showed up and proud of what she did. Téa gives gratitude to her boyfriend, telling him he's the reason she's here at all to make a stand and no longer remain silent. This is the APEX Era, so if everyone is given a second chance, why not her? A valid point, Atem agrees with…but he quickly reminds them that they have a scheduled main event to get to. The King of Games nods and Altered Egos leave, but Yugi remains behind to look back at Téa…who says, "Yugi…I've put up my end of the end of the bargain. Now it's your turn… Beat those Symbiote creeps for me."
Yugi nods and takes off, leaving the former World Women's Champion alone. Markiplier on commentary states that the main event is up next before we head out to commercial.
Main Event – The Symbiotes (Venom and Carnage) vs. Altered Egos (Yugi Mutou and Atem); if the Symbiotes win, they will face Alpha & Omega at Unforgiven instead
Recap: Everyone knew this match would be a brutal one between them, given how much they put through each other in the past couple of weeks. They just didn't expect a tag team match to last so damn long like this. As the match was about to begin, Yugi would attempt to go first against Venom…but Atem stopped him, confusion coming from his partner. Despite the talk they had earlier, Atem insists he go first, much to Yugi's displeasure. He tried to reason with him, but Atem made it clear he doesn't want him to risk his back injury as he's likely hurt worse than the Pharaoh is. He did tell him they'll make a couple of quick tags so Yugi can get his licks in and won't have to worry about the worst possibly happening. Yugi honestly didn't like it…but he knew how much Atem wanted to protect him and decided to go along with it.
So it's Atem and Venom who start things off…just as Venom suddenly blindsides Yugi with a Big Boot, removing him from the apron! That evidently infuriated Yami Yugi to where he elbows Venom in the face and starts delivering several body hooks in the corner as a small act of vengeance. Atem is BURYING those elbow strikes into the face of Eddie Brock, no sign of stopping whatsoever before foot-choking him until referee Marshall Eriksen forces him away. But Atem actually pushes him away, getting back to striking down Venom with all his wrath…before he stopped him with a throat clutch, choking him as he rises to his feet…and hurling him across the ring with a Biel Throw!
Venom did have bit of control over the Pharaoh, but it's his interesting Lariat counter, which had him swinging over his arm like a gymnastics high bar, into a DDT. This provided him time to recover and tag out to Yugi, who springboards into the ring with a heck of Leg Drop over Venom's head. Of course, he had promised to make quick tags over the course of this match in order to prevent anything like Rebellion happening again. And that was definitely smart on their part. For one, Atem would tag in Yugi for the two to execute a Poetry in Motion on Venom…and Yugi tags himself out for another double-team maneuver, the Spell Cycle (Fist Drop (Atem) / Standing Somersault Senton (Yugi) combination).
However, it didn't last for long as Yugi got a little too comfortable sitting in the driver's seat, taking too much of his time in the match and leaving Atem to constantly ask for a tag. Why, he would attack a cornered Carnage repeatedly with a series of Running Forearm Smashes. Then he pulls him over with a Snapmare, lands a brutal Dropkick to the back of his head…and follows him to land a Standing Moonsault. As much as Atem was worried, Yugi appeared to be doing great and the crowd knew that; still, Yami couldn't help but assume that the worst has yet to come. After a Sitout Gourdbuster to Carnage, Yugi backs up…and Atem tags himself in. Yugi didn't very much appreciate that as Atem ignores his pleads and how he had everything under control. Atem tells him he'll take care of it…but Yugi refuses to leave, trying to reassure him that he's fine…until Atem actually glared and shouted at him to LEAVE to the apron. This was a crucial moment to bear witness, Yugi slightly backpedaling in fear of Atem's furious expression and exiting to the apron. And if one hears closely, they be able to notice a small amount of fans BOOING Atem for doing such a thing. But who can blame him?
Atem does manage to keep the momentum on his side…but his failed Pharaoh's Tomb attempt is reversed into a Running Powerslam by Venom. He tags back in Carnage and he assists him with a Leg Drop across the neck of the Pharaoh…and the two blast Yugi off the apron AGAIN. They do this to keep him away for the following pin…which didn't succeed; of course, they knew that as they just wanted to ensure that the "nuisance" [Yugi] didn't interfere.
From here on afterwards, the Symbiotes have practically cut the ring in HALF, destroying and beating the hell out of Atem to a pulp. As much as Yugi wanted Atem to tag out, he REFUSED, not wanting to risk Yugi's help and this frustrated Yugi in seeing his ancestor getting CRUSHED. However, Atem wasn't completely defenseless as at every chance he get, he fights back against the two-on-one odds, like his life depended on it. He was a cornered animal and it proved to be a big mistake on the Symbiotes' part to surround him, provoking Atem to wildly throw fists at the two. He takes Carnage out of the ring with a Clothesline, then Venom with an Irish Whip. Atem tried a Big Boot of his own, but Venom caught it…and hooks him up into a Capture Suplex. Atem stumbles to his feet as Venom stalks after him…and the Pharaoh retaliates with a throat thrust and throws Venom over to the outside. Carnage comes after him, but Atem back body drops him, sending him into his "father." As they are scrambling to their feet, Atem measures them…glances at Yugi for a brief moment…Yugi found looking down afterwards…and Atem hits the ropes behind him just to gather steam…and soars over all three ropes with a Suicide Dive, Undertaker style!
Sadly, it all came crashing down again when a failed attempt of the Pharaoh's Endgame got blocked and reversed into an Inverted Headlock Neckbreaker, the knee striking up at the base of Atem's neck as it causes him to violently throttle in terrible agony. It was a sight that Carnage actually enjoyed, laughing and pointing at it like a mere schoolyard bully. The Symbiotes resume their domination over the course of this match and enjoyed taking their time turning Atem into a lifeless corpse throughout. At one moment, Carnage had Atem at the center of the ring…and used him as a puppet to mock their partnership: "Don't worry about me! I'm COMPLETELY fine getting my ass handed to me! You just stand there and feel USELESS to me, MAAAAAN! HAHAHAHAHA!" This provoked Yugi into getting into the ring himself, but referee Marshall Eriksen stood his in his way, providing enough time for Carnage to drag Atem to his corner where the Symbiotes would brutally club him with those stiff forearms.
From a Double Inverted Chokeslam Facebuster to a Military Press Drop by Venom into a Double Knee Gutbuster by Carnage, the Symbiotes REIGNED supreme. It was deemed hopeless for a tag by Altered Egos at this point—specifically, Barney Stinson pointed out that this match was ALREADY hopeless from the very beginning and Altered Egos may as well say goodbye to their championship shots. Still, even after hitting a big move like the Powerbomb (Venom) / Springboard Neckbreaker (Carnage) combination, Atem would NOT die and each kick out he makes just infuriates the Symbiotes further. Now, they were DONE playing around. They want their title shots and they're going to get them, one way or another.
So it was time for a Venomous Carnage, the same double-team finisher that took Yugi out for nearly a MONTH as Atem groggily rises to his feet. Yugi couldn't help but panic at what's to come next, Venom and Carnage grinning from ear to ear…as they charge forward from both sides…
…
…and so does Atem, surprising Carnage with a Running Knee Strike! He's limp, but he's still got some fight left in him, but Venom squashes him in the corner with a Body Avalanche. Venom will have to pick up the pieces now as he rams his fists down on the top of his head ten times, then sets up a Superplex…only for Atem to slip out…and carry the 300-pound Venom on his shoulders to the center for a (slightly) Elevated Powerbomb, the Stairway to the Underworld!
The arena was going BANANAS at the sight of a Pharaoh carrying a super heavyweight in the form of Venom, even Yugi stood gaping at the sight with his hands grabbing his head. Venom and Atem are left practically dead (mostly the latter) at the center of the ring, Carnage is back on his corner and yelling at his "dad" to tag out…and Venom is the first to move. As he does, Atem is left exhausted from pulling out that Stairway to the Underworld before seeing a desperate Yugi extending his hand out for a tag. He begs again, pleads again, for the tag…and Atem knows how spent he is from taking punishment and retaliating…and protecting his partner…but pride be damn, he had no other choice. The Pharaoh begins crawling to his corner…as Venom tags out to Carnage! Cletus Kasady rushes over, grabbing Atem's leg…but Atem yanks him in with an unusual Mule Kick…
…and manages to utter, "Don't let me down, Yugi," as he staggers to the corner and falls with a tag-out. The crowd EXPLODES as Yugi springboards into the action with a Crossbody on top of Kasady! Yugi came in HOT, Clotheslining the psychopath down twice and then ducks Carnage's, twists the arm…and strikes him with a Sitout Jawbreaker…followed by a double leg takedown into an Extreme Leg Drop…and ending with a Dropkick to the face! Yugi has remained the freshest out of his partner and his opponents and that wait has FINALLY paid off, as he suddenly dodged a Running Lariat from Venom…runs up the turnbuckles…and jumps off the top with a Whisper in the Heart of the Cards!
The King of Games has NOT missed a beat here, now baseball sliding under Carnage and Front Dropkicking him from behind. With Carnage sent to the corner, Yugi runs after him…missing Kasady completely with the Stinger Splash…but he caught himself and leaps with a Tornado DDT! Carnage is forced to head outside, where Venom apparently joined him…and Yugi waits for the time to strike…but looks to Atem…who nods in approval, giving him complete trust…and this brings a smirk on Yugi's face as he hits the ropes…and vaults over all three ropes with a Suicide Somersault Senton, crashing into the Symbiotes and yet rolling through to his feet!
It was now getting closer to the end, almost time for Altered Egos to get one victory over the Symbiotes and get one step closer to regaining the World Tag Titles. Yugi has the legal Eddie Brock in his clutches…and he drives him down with a Duelist's Endgame. They were close to the corner, giving Yugi the next opportunity to climb to the high-rent district. The King of Games stands high and tall…the crowd on their feet for the exciting conclusion…
…
…he dives off with a flip…
…
…
…and the Millennium Bomb FAILS, Yugi landing on Venom's knees! Yugi feels immediate pain to his back and gets CUT IN HALF by a Maximum Carnage! Yugi goes completely limp after that, flipping on his neck and onto his stomach as the Symbiotes decide to hell with everything and BRUTALIZE Yugi with stomps and clubs. Atem wouldn't have it one bit as he charges in with an elbow to Carnage. Referee Marshall Eriksen tries to get everything back under control…but NOBODY would listen to him; Atem and Venom were too busy punching the hell out of each other before Carnage tackled him from behind, the two clubbing the former spirit repeatedly from both sides. Then Yugi, returning injury be damned, Stinger Splashes Carnage from behind.
The match was FORCED to end in a no contest as it has gone beyond Eriksen's control. It's gone as far as Carnage taking Atem and himself out with a Gore through the barricade! And then there's Venom and Yugi, the former of which is trying to Powerbomb the latter through the torn apart announce table…but like Billy Kidman himself, Yugi just could not be Powerbombed. He is giving Eddie a hard time to execute it with his flurry of punches to the table before sliding down behind him and kicking him away to the table. Quickly, he searches under the ring…and swings WILDLY at Venom's head with a sickening chair shot to the skull! Once wasn't enough, as Yugi kept SMASHING and SMASHING Venom's head into the table until he couldn't move anymore! This was a side of Yugi people might have not seen before!
Yugi goes searching under the ring once again…and he pulls out a twenty-foot ladder, earning wild pops from the San Diego crowd. He sets up the giant object close to the announce table where Venom remains motionless. The commentators, specifically Mark, are trying to talk him out of this insanity, but it's all fallen on the deaf ears of a nonchalant Yugi Mutou, who begins ascending. Up and up he goes, Yugi fearlessly stands tall on the very top rung…staring down at the immobile Eddie Brock…
…then he lets out a courageous cry with arms splayed…
…
…
…
…
…
…and he descends all the way down, crashing right through Venom and destroying the table via Millennium Bomb!
This…is how it all ends for this fallout episode of Ignition. Absolute destruction and chaos. Atem and Carnage are found lying beside each other as Yugi remains on top of Venom, all four taken out to near unconsciousness with EMTs rushing on to check on them all…and the audience chanting, "HOLY SHIT!" and then "APEX WRESTLING!"
Markiplier ends the episode with a closing call: "This match has completely gone to ANARCHY. We have NO winner—NO CHALLENGER at Unforgiven for the World Tag Team Titles! What's going to happen after all of this? Where will this result leave Altered Egos and the Symbiotes NOW?!" The sight of both tag teams lying hurt and unconscious and the audience left wanting more is the last shot before Ignition IX fades to black.

From February to May…I finally finished this chapter. Now, truth be told, I was SO burned out from Summer Wars, it took me two months to come up with ANYTHING for this episode. So I took a break most of the time. Soon as I felt the need to write again, I got back into it. Progress was slow, but it seems that the wait was worth it and I hope it was for you, too.
Just remember to leave a review behind when you're done reading. If not, at least let me know you've enjoyed my work. I appreciate all readers.
So until then…thank you, goodbye and good night.
BANG.
