We all know Henry the green engine and how much of an impact he had on Sodor and it's railway. But what would happen if he never arrived?.

In the series, we see how much Sodor will change without Henry. All the way from it's humble beginning to it's modern era. We start off in 1922, around this time Bertram Topham Hatt was in desperate need of locomotives. But instead of going to a shady seller offering an "Atlantic" his search for an engine led him to meet Controller of the Caledonian Railway.

Let's begin, shall we?".

Sodor 1922

"Attention everyone!" Boomed The Fat Director.

Soon the engines fell into silence.

In the engine shed infront of him were Thomas, Edward, Eagle and three box engines named Clive, Neil and Matthew.

"Now engines, i know we are in desperate of locomotives. But don't worry, i've recently apporached the Caledonian Railway and They offered to sell me one of there goods engines for a fair price" said The Fat Director.

The engines were delighted at this, they were in need of more engines to help out with the workload, especially with goods work.

"When will they arrive sir?" Edward asked.

"They will be arriving from Scotland tomorrow, i hope you will all treat him warmly and show him what to do".

"Yes sir, we will sir" the engines replied, and with that The Fat Director walked away.

"Finally he got someone to help" said Thomas cheekily, "I don't see why it's so hard to find engines".

"It costs alot to get a permant engine Thomas" said Eagle.

"How would you know?" asked Thomas, "Your not the Director, are you?".

"Let's just all go to sleep now" said Edward, sensing an argument starting, "We'll all give a warm welcome to the new engine".

Thomas and Eagle agreed and soon fell asleep.

The Fat Director stared blankly at his assistant ,"Did you say two engines Ted?".

"Yes Sir" Ted replied ,"I'm just as suprised as you".

"Then send the other one back" said The Fat Director.

"Certainly sir, but uh which one" he said, still confused.

The Fat Director sighed, "Engines have numbers Ted. I ordered number 57646, just send-".

"Yeah um there's just one problem sir" Eagle interupted, "The two engine are both identical and said they lost their numbers on the way here".

"Right" said The Fat Director, grabbing his hat from his desk, "We'll soon stop that nonsense".

The Fat Director hurried to the yard and what he saw suprised him.

Standing in the yard infront of Thomas was two Caledonian class 812 tender engines painted in black, with no numbers or nameplates. Thomas was talking to them, asking them question after question about what the world was like.

"What's it like pulling trains?" asked Thomas.

The engine on the left smilied at him, "It very nice" he said, "It's lovely to be able to see the countryside, ain't that right Dougie?".

"Ach aye laddie" the engine on the right said back to him.

They were interupted by the sound of the Fat director clearing his throat, Thomas quickly scampered off.

There was a long pause until The Fat Director spoke.

"Good day" he said sternly.

"Good day to ye Sir" the twins replied in unison.

"I hear you lost your numbers" said The Fat Director.

"Aye we did" said one.

"They must'a slipped off on our way here" said the other.

"More like accidently on purpose" muttered The Fat Director.

"SIR!" The twins gasped, "Ya wouldn'a be suggesting we did this delibrately".

The Director turned away for a moment before turning back to face the twins.

"What are your names?" he asked them.

"Donald and Dougie Sir" They replied.

"Good, then i'll just ask your Controller which one of you is 57646" said The Fat Director.

"Ach Sir you'd have no luck asking that auld one" said Donald.

"Besides" said Douglas, "We only gave ourselfs our names when we lost our numbers"

"One of you is playing true-it" Said The Fat Director, "I shall find out who and send him packing".

He walked away. As he left, he called out to the Inspector. He'd had tried himself to find out who was who, bbut to no aval.

"INSPECTOR!".

"Yes Sir?".

"Give these engines numbers and set them to work"

"Of course Sir Topham".

Soon the two engines had been given numbers. Donald was 3 and Douglas 4,they liked these numbers.

They soon set to work around the railway and suprisingly. They didn't mind what job they did, coaches or trucks ,it was all the same to them.

"They do work well" Thomas said to Edward in the yards as he watched one of them pull away from Vicarstown with a heavy goods.

"Indeed" replied Edward, "Although two of them being here does put us in a predicament".

"How so?" Thomas asked.

"Well, The Fat Director only ordered one engine. So however owns the twin that wasn't ment to arrive will soon come to look for them. I say the Director is more worried than we are".

Edward was right, The Fat Director was with his assistant. They were both shuffling around his office, going through all sorts of Paperwork and files to try and find out which twin he brought.

"If the controller finds that the other one is here, he'll think i've stole him" said The Director, wiping sweat off his forehead.

"Why not just buy both engines Sir" His Assistant asked, "We need all the help we can get with Eagle and most of the loaned engines heading back to their respected reigns in about a year or so".

"It be too costly to try and purchase them both Ted" The Director responded, "Plus i barely managed to get the engine i actually brought for a good price".

Both men sighed and continued searching.

Donald and Douglas were enjoying working on Sodor. They meet all sorts of people and engines, from the Wellsworth and Suddery engines to the Sodor and Mainland engines. Things were going smoothly.

Unfortunately that was all to change

A few days after they arrived, Douglas was in the yards shunting with Thomas. He was telling him about him and Donald's early life. He found it funny that Thomas was so interested in the outside world.

"You really want'a leave the yards, don't cha laddie?" Douglas chuckled.

"I do" Thomas sighed as he grumbled ," I'm tired of pushing coaches, i want to see the world".

"Im sure ya will one day lad" Said Douglas comforting, "Just keep working hard and-".

Douglas stopped speaking when he noticed someone walking around the yard, he knew them all to way.

"Oh No!" He said,as he rushed behind Thomas.

Thomas stared at him with a look of confusion, "Douglas, what on earth are you-".

"Shush Lad" Douglas interupted, "Ya need to hide me from that auld one over there".

"But why do-".

"JUST DO IT LADDIE".

Thomas quickly shunted some trucks behind the scottish engine, just as he finished hiding him. The man walked over to him.

"Excuse me" he asked Thomas.

"Y-yes?, can i h-help you?" Thomas asked.

"Im look for Bertram Topham Hatt, have you seen him?" the man asked.

"No sir, i haven't, why do you need to find him?" Thomas asked curiously.

"I am Mr Darrens, i am the head Assistant for the Owner of the Wilsontown branch. The Controller of the Caledonain Railway Transfered one of their tender engines to our branch. But recently it was reported that they were seen leaving the railway with one of their brothers to this island. We need to report this to Mr Hat, we have reason to believe that he knows something".

"O-oh i see" said Thomas meekly.

"Anyway, thank you for your time, um-"

"Thomas sir" said Thomas.

"Well thank you Thomas for your time" and with that The man left.

"All clear" said Thomas.

No sooner had he finished speaking, Douglas crept out from behind the trucks. After a short pause, Thomas spoke up.

"What was that all about?" Thomas asked.

Douglas let out a sigh and explained, "Me and Donnie are very close as you know and we never travel apart. But when your Director brought Donald,we were worried we'd never see each other again. So i snuck here with him so we could be together. But i was ment to be transfered to the Wilsontown branch to run the passenger services there and the owner of the branch is probally looking for me now".

Douglas sighed sadly, "I was beginning to love this place, it's very peaceful.

Thomas felt bad for Douglas, he wanted to help them out. He decided to talk to Neil, the box tank engine.

"Neil is one of the oldest engines on Sodor, cso surely he knew what to do",Thomas thought.

He told Neil about what Douglas had said, the old engine thought for a moment before speaking.

"What you need is a deputation, my dear engine" said Neil.

"What's a deputation?" Thomas asked curiously.

"It when a group of people tell their boss or controller that's somethings wrong" Neil replied.

"Thanks Neil" Thomas beamed replied,as he puffed away.

"Young engines these days" Neil sighed as he puffed away to pull his next train.

Later that day, Donald had just finish taking a passenger train to Crosby and was back at Vicarstown taking on water. When the yard manager came up to him.

"Donald, the Fat Director wants to see you" said the Manager.

Donald went up to the station and as he entered the platform, he froze. He saw the Fat Director, The Wilsontown branch Controller and both their Assistants.

"Oh Bollocks!" Donald gasped as he ran back into the yard, bumping into Douglas as he did.

"Donnie, what i ya doing laddie?" Douglas asked.

"He's here" Donald whispered.

"Who?".

"The Wilsontown branch Controller, he's looking for you" Donald replied.

"Oh no" Douglas gasped.

"What should we do?" Donald asked

Douglas thought for a moment before an idea popped into his funnel.

The four men sat on the platform, waiting and waiting.

"Your engine should have been here Topham" said The Wilsontown branch Controller sternly.

"Terribly sorry Mr Joseph" The Fat Director said his voice filled with worry.

"He'll be here any minute Sir, just have faith" Ted whispered.

Soon, Donald pulled into the station, with a calm smirk on his face.

"Sorry i'm late sir" Donald said softly ,"I was just doing some extra shunting".

"I see" said Mr Joseph as his assistant handed him a notebook,"So Number 3, did you smuggle your brother onto this railway?".

"No sir" Donald replied calmly.

"Do you have any idea where he is?" Mr Joseph Asked.

"No sir"

Mr Joseph muttered something under his breath and continued to write in his notebook, before turning to The Fat Director.

"Will you show us the yard, Topham?".

"Of course Sir" said The Fat Director.

They all went to the yards. Mr Joseph and his Assistant began to search around the yard. Both Ted and The Fat Director noticed Douglas hiding behind a line of fruit vans.

The Fat Director gave him a expression that asked him what the hell he was doing. Douglas gluped as he noticed the two men were getting closer to him then

Then everything happened at once.

Douglas shot foward in a panic because Mr Jospeh's Assistant was getting closer, Thomas came rushing into the yards yelling about a deputation and Mr Joseph turned around to talk to The Fat Director to tell him what a bad Railway it was when

BANG!

When the dust cleared, everyone servade the scene. Douglas had accidentally pushed the fruit vans onto Thomas's line, which caused the blue engine to crash into his vans, sending squashed fruit over everyone.

Mr Joseph wiped squashed pears and apples off his face and suit before shouting

"WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON HERE?!".

No one had an answer.

Edit: I went back and fixed the first three episodes up as i've been wanting to for awhile. Mostly just fixed incorrect spelling and grammar mistakes, but changed a few things. Hope it looks better!
