A/N:

UN Peacekeeper: Thanks for the support. I didn't know if I made the right choice to make up a name for GATE and I am happy you like it.

Thanks for the reviews, let's keep it civil as I do not want to delete reviews, and let's continue the story.

...the Soviet Union will be pleased to offer you amnesty to your wayward vessel.

The Soviet Union? I thought you guys broke up.

Nyet, that's what we wanted you to think. Ha ha ha ha ha.

The Simpsons

Warning: I tried to make this chapter more gruesome as I feel that without the feeling of anger and disgust against the Saderan, Gate would feel kind of….. disingenuous. Every time I read a Gate novel, I need to see just how horrendous of crimes the Saderan Empire commits and how some authors describe those scenes. I have tried my best to replicate this, I'm not the best at this as it is my first time trying, but I feel that this type of scene is a must. So if you a snowflake that can't stand the word blood, please skip and don't complain. For those bloodthirsty like me...well I hope this lives up to your expectations.

Chapter 8: Push 'Em Back

Rubkona City, Bentiu Province, South Sudan

A week after counterattack discussions

Itami ducked down and plugged his ears as the dual 30mm autocannons beside him blasted into a building with confirmed Saderan contacts. The burst of cannonfire punched holes into the building, filling the legionaries within with shrapnel.

As the gunner prepared to fire another burst into the building, a white flag tied to a spear waved out the window, prompting the BMPT-72 armoured fighting vehicle to cease firing. A diesel engine revved up as a group of men dressed in black and armed with MP5s and HK-416s moved up, using a T-72B3 main battle tank as mobile cover, guns raised, and pointed at the building. The tank commander was raised slightly above his raised hatch, gesturing in the air to the French GIGN operators in an attempt to coordinate assaulting the two-story building.

The Japanese turned back to his squad and nodded his head towards the building, indicating that they would station on the top floor once the GIGN cleared the building. The job assigned to the Japanese Recon team was to take over cleared buildings and hold them, repulsing any counter-attacks while reconnoitering enemy strongpoints.

Youji readied his rifle and patted down his gear, ensuring he had everything he needed. Looking back to the building, the French men had just reached the doorway. Tossing in flashbangs, they stormed the first floor. Yelling could be heard as Saderans were cuffed and manhandled out, the injured dragged onto the street for treatment. The operators then moved on, heading up the stairs. Itami heard even more frantic shouts, this time in French, followed in English.

" MAN DOWN, MAN DOWN."

Kurokawa ran forward, grasping a first aid kit from her pack, Kuribayashi running alongside her as protection. Two men dressed in black kit dragged a comrade out of the building, the wounded man clutching a gladius that was embedded in his abdomen. The rest of the French exited the building and onto the street, distancing themselves from the building, guns still raised as they backed away. The commander of the unit was the last to leave, dashing onto the T-72B3 before gesturing to the tank commander. The wounded French man was hauled behind the BMPT before Mari started treating his wounds and packing the area around the gladius with soaker pads. Itami just watched as Mari stabilized the sword in the man's intestinal area, the operator gritting his teeth with his eyes shut from the unimaginable pain he was suffering from. The Japanese medic turned the man slightly, seeing that the 10 centimetre wide blade had lodged itself just underneath the lowest left rib and punctured out the backside. The point was gleaming in the bright sun, highlighting the drips of blood as they fell off the tip.

A Chinese Warrior marked in white with a red cross painted on its side screeched to a halt alongside the casualty, before 4 Chinese stretcher-bearers jumped out and lifted him on board, their own medic already continuing Mari's work of keeping the man alive. The vehicle kicked up a massive dust plume as it drove to safety. The Japanese medic stood back up and rejoined her squad, stripping the bloodied gloves from her hands, her tan sleeve pockmarked with red.

The electric whines from the tank brought Itami eyes from the female soldier to the massive gun swinging into position.

[BOOM!] Itami echoed in his head right before the 2A46M5 Russian cannon put a 125mm HE-FRAG round through the window and impacting the ceiling, a ripping sound could be heard when the round exploded. Silence filled the air after, with only the sounds of metal shrapnel tinkling as they fell to the ground.

[I guess we won't use that building then.] Itami just shook his head and the convoy continued yet another dozen meters down the street to the next building.

This scene could be seen throughout the town of Rubkona. The general plan being street to street clearing from East to West, South to North, completely clearing the town of trapped civilians, enslaved peoples, and enemy combatants. Only once this task was done would the GATE be surrounded and blockaded.

The general plan was that Russian armour would support UN forces in clearing the streets as Chinese and Mongolian IFVs evacuated injured civilians and UN soldiers. Groups like the GIGN and KSK were brought in to clear buildings of hostages and surrendering combatants as their training allowed for more precision and fewer risks to civilians. These special forces units that are trained for hostage rescue were sent to clear enemy strongpoints, assaulting suspected and unknown hostage filled buildings. France and Germany sent company-sized units from their GIGN and KSK special forces, while volunteers from Delta Force, JTF2, SAS, and 707th Special Mission Unit assisted alongside the Europeans. Most of the assault lines were formed from a couple of Russian T-72B3s and a single BMPT-72 "Terminator" 2, with 2 Indian BMP-2s substituted in some lines for the BMPT-72 as only 10 Terminators were shipped in. Infantry forces from Canada, Japan, Korea, India, Mongolia, China, and from the African Union rode behind the armour in APCs, dismounted and cleared building by building, recovered body after body. Black body bags lined the streets, the troops unable to carry them along with them during the operation. They were laid side by side, waiting for autopsy and identification, forming black lines that pointed all back to the gate.

As the entire city was almost completely cleared out, with only small pockets of futile resistance left in a couple of compounds, the UN forces reached the North outskirts of the town. The march was gruesome, as men, women, and children were not spared any mercy by the Saderans.

The tanks rolled past, the IFVs and APCs following after, allowing the infantry that marched behind them to see the burnt-out bus. Itami could still see burning embers smoking from the blackened interior. An SPLA soldier, his green camouflage fatigues dyed red, hung from the side of the bus. Two spears had pinned his shoulders to the aluminum walls, the metal points had been thrust into him alive, as tear wounds indicated around the wooden shafts from the man struggling against the pain.

Vomiting sounds could be heard from behind him. Kurata lost his rations, throwing up onto the street. Another pinned SPLA soldier, his head drooping down from the lack of life, was missing the lower half of his body, intestines exposed and hanging from the body. The legs and crotch area sat on the ground, leaning against the bus as if it were seated against the metal wall, the corpse's AK-47 laid across his thighs.

More bodies were strewn around the bus's entrance and exit. Females, ages ranging from 7 to 60, had various different wounds. Some were stabbed to death, dried wounds covered their bodies, while some had bruised marks around their necks. All had bludgeoning wounds covering their faces and legs splayed out. Dried crusty white substances coated the deceased females.

As for males, only the elderly were found, lined up on the sidewalk. Each of the old men had a dark red line that revealed their throats to the sky.

Tomita and Kurokawa broke their packs open, quickly pulling body bags out in an attempt to protect the remaining dignity and privacy of the dead. Kuribayashi was staring in anger to the north, fist clenched white. Kawahara and Katsumoto, who had been discharged from the hospital with second-degree burns scarring his back a week before, were moving from shrouded body to body, closing their eyes and saying a quick prayer. The well-built man's frown enlarging as he passed each child.

The Canadians operating alongside the Japanese also knelt down and assisted the Japanese, moving the bodies off the street and lined them up along the sidewalk. The French operators just shook their heads, saddened by the loss of life, as they rode past to catch up with Russian armour.

As the lines of attack converged at the Northern edge of the city, the might of the Saderan Legions laid before their eyes on the force that occupied the airport and the north fields. Two corps, each with 50,000 Saderan men, stretched out around the gate and onto the Rubkona airfield. The legionaries were set up in defensive testudos, eyeing the horseless war wagons and steel elephants lumber in through the streets. Goblins, orcs, and giants stood in between the squares, snarling and gnashing their teeth in their eagerness for blood. Auxiliary forces could be seen around the slaves, leading them through the massive doors, chain lines entering the unknown.

Radio communications were chaotic, with different countries working to coordinate the final assault. The Northern UN force, sent to clear the POC site, reported that the refugee camp was empty and that they were speeding to encircle the enemy forces. The fact that the camp was devoid of life meant that all slaves would be through or around the gate, eliminating the heavy-handed airstrikes and artillery bombardments the Russians argued to deploy. The different commanders wanted different assault plans, with the Russians wanting to completely eradicate everything near the gate to the Canadians wanting to airlift units to land and rescue as many refugees as possible beside the gate. However, the Imperial army forced their hands as four legions, each 5,000 strong, reformed attacking testudos and marched south. The UN forces in the city redeployed the soldiers into the buildings and around the armoured vehicles, preparing for an enemy charge.

Itami crouched behind the Komatsu LAV's doors with Kurata, as the rest of the squad joined the Canadians in a two-story building. The old man and Tomita manned the two license-built M2 Browning machine guns, racking the bolts back before dropping the barrels to aim at the advancing men. Kurata, after reporting the situation to command, turned away to listen to the reciever as his lieutenant stared at the walking shield wall in indifference. Acknowledging the orders, he quickly relayed them to Itami.

" What do you mean our ROE stays the same?! They are advancing on us with melee weapons." A bulging vein could be seen on the right side of his temple.

" That's our orders, sir." Kurata just sighed.

The legions were now within 30 metres for the buildings, halting as movement could be seen behind their shields. The UN forces had their rifles raised by now, fingers lightly tapping on triggers. Itami aimed at the closest centurion, the man's broom end helmet waving proudly in the air. A loud clunk could be heard as iron-rimmed shields were moved aside and the sky darkened.

Tens of thousands of pilums* took flight as they flew from legionnaire's hands at the modern soldiers, covering the light coming from the northern skies. Soldiers in open-top turrets ducked into their vehicles as javelins rained from above. Soldiers in buildings flattened themselves against the walls, avoiding the windows where the polearms would enter and embed themselves on the opposite walls. Men and women hiding behind their armoured vehicles crawled to safety under the bodies of steel, praying none of the spears would ricochet and slide underneath the vehicles. Itami and Kurata were two of these soldiers, clutching their rifles as they stared forward at the enemy.

Using the suppressing effect of the pilums, the legions broke formations and charged, screaming war cries as they dashed to defeat the otherworlder army. The main army behind the attacking legions cheered as they saw the enemy duck for cover and their comrades rushing forward. Unknown to the Saderans, the T-72B3, BMPT-72, BMP-2, TAPV, and BTR-60 operators were chuckling to themselves as the javelins bounced off or broke against the armour. 7.62mm, 12.7mm, 14.5mm, 30mm, and 125mm rounds fell upon the squares as they took their first steps, the men disappearing in white smoke or red mist. Destruction soon fell on the cheering masses as the last rushing man fell.

Ten 9M120F 130mm Ataka missiles lit off their booster upon leaving their tubes, reaching speeds of 450m/s, before impacting in the middle of a defensive testudo in half a second. Guided by the operators of the ten BMPT-72s, each missile detonated on impact, igniting the air around the thermobaric warheads. The ensuing fireballs each enveloped a testudo, a vacuum created by all the surrounding air being ignited that sucked the air out of their lungs and collapsed the lungs, killing the men and beasts by suffocation before the fire could burn them to death. The first bombardment killed 2,500 men and 500 monsters, with many more wounded from vacuum exposure and massive burns. The second launch of thermobaric warheads was authorized after seconds of the first, while the UN infantry was told to fall in behind armoured vehicles for an advance. ATGMs this time was aimed at the sides of the enemy, avoiding the slaves near the gate and allowing UN forces to approach without fear of an enemy flanking attack.

As the flames cleared, the Saderans saw columns of nearing enemies, each having a steel elephant leading with war wagons and soldiers behind them. They were paralyzed, unable to believe the pure power shown directly to them. 3 F-18s then made a show of force flight above, the ground rumbling as the jets flew overhead. The monsters awakened from their fear and panicked, routing immediately, crashing through squares and lines of legionaries and auxiliary forces in an attempt to exit through the gate. Unfortunately, the rampaging retreat was blocked by the lines of slaves, trampling feet and random swings from clubs and axes causing mass death and casualties. Seeing the madness, the UN soldiers rushed forward in a vain attempt to lessen civilian casualties.

However, this adversely caused the morale of the human enemies to plummet, with the legionaries and auxiliaries routing as well.

The command to open fire was given to thin the hordes headed towards the unarmed, men and women halting to shoot short bursts before running again. Only vehicles with stabilized guns fired into the crowds, gunners gritting their teeth as they tried to avoid the civilians.

The rout ceased only when the number of bodies sealed the doors, men and monsters unable to climb over the pile of corpses built up at the gateway. The more intelligent Saderans knelt down and surrendered, throwing their weapons to the ground. The mindless beasts and men lashed out like wounded animals, swinging and slashing wildly, before being put down with sustained rifle fire. The northern UN force secured the airfield as the UN army that pushed north from the city began to process the survivors.
