Chloe was at her desk finishing up her paperwork for the day. Then she was headed home to start dinner. She'd invited Lucifer over with baby to have dinner with her and Trixie. They did that at least once a week now. It gave Lucifer from interaction that didn't come from an infant, and she and Trixie loved having them over.

Just then, Dan came over. "Hey, Chloe, I'm heading home for the night. You good?"

"Yeah, I'll be leaving soon too. Thanks for all the help you've given me these last couple of months," Chloe said. Dan had been partnering with her while Lucifer was home with Charlie. She was really grateful for Dan stepping in, but she really missed Lucifer around the station. Unbelievably, she even missed him annoying her and being inappropriate. Things just weren't the same without him.

"Yeah, it's no problem. It was good working with you again. When does Lucifer come back?" Dan asked.

"Next week," Chloe said. Honestly, for a while she'd wondered if Lucifer was going to come back. She wouldn't have blamed him if he chose not to. He was caring for an infant by himself while also running a business. That was overwhelming enough without adding another job to it. But Lucifer wanted to come back, and he'd finally found a nanny he was comfortable having around Charlie when he couldn't be home. They had both been a little concerned about having a stranger stay care for Charlie when it was possible he could have celestial powers, however, Charlie hadn't exhibited any such powers so far, and Lucifer was convinced that because Amenadiel was human when he was conceived, the baby was likely human too.

"Well, I'll miss working with you," Chloe said.

As if on cue, Lucifer walked in at that moment carrying Charlie in his baby carrier. "Hello, Detective, Daniel."

Chloe smiled as he came over. "Hey. I thought we were meeting at my place."

"Yes, well, I thought I'd show the child the precinct first," Lucifer said as he placed the baby carrier on top of the detective's desk.

Chloe smiled and immediately went to pull Charlie out of his seat. She picked him up and started bouncing him in her arms. "Hey, Charlie. Did Daddy bring you to see his work? This is where Daddy and Aunt Chloe stop the bad guys."

Just then, Ella made her way over, as well as a couple of officers who'd noticed Lucifer and wanted to see the baby.

"Aw, you brought the baby! He's gotten so big!" Ella gushed as she grabbed ahold of Charlie's hand.

"He gets bigger every time I see him," Chloe said.

"He's three months now, right?" Ella asked.

"Just over that, yes," Lucifer answered.

"This is your brother's kid, right?" one of the officers asked Lucifer.

"No, this is my child, than you," Lucifer said a bit irritated.

"Can I hold him?" Ella asked Lucifer.

"Certainly, as long as the detective is willing to part with him," Lucifer said.

"Well, it's hard to let him go, but I guess you deserve a turn. Charlie, say hi to Ella," Chloe said before gently transferring him into the younger woman's arms.

"Have you tried to call Amenadiel lately?" Dan asked.

"Why would I do that?" Lucifer asked, once again quite annoyed. Detective Douche had made his opinion clear regarding Charlie. He believed Amenadiel would have him, so naturally, it annoyed Lucifer to have him bring Amenadiel up when his brother made it quite clear that he couldn't care less about the child.

"I don't know. Maybe so he can know what's going on with his child," Dan asked.

"Excuse us for a minute," Chloe said before pulling Dan away from the group and over by his desk. "You need to cut the crap, Dan. Amenadiel is gone. He chose not to be a father. You need to accept that."

"You don't know that. You told me no one was able to get ahold of Amenadiel. He might not even know about Charlie, and he probably doesn't know Linda died either," Dan said.

"He knows, Dan. Lucifer left Amenadiel many… messages during Linda's pregnancy. Amenadiel chose not to respond to a single one of them. He made his decision clear," Chloe said.

"But you don't know that he got those messages, and even if he did, there's a good chance he'd change his mind if he knew Lucifer was taking care of his kid," Dan argued.

"You're right, there is," Chloe granted him. She knew Amenadiel well enough to know that he could be petty. She remembered how he was when she first met him. It was clear to her that he was not a fan of his brother, and he might want Charlie just because Lucifer had him, which only disgusted her more. "But he doesn't get to appear in Charlie's life now just because he doesn't like who is caring for Charlie. If he wanted an opinion about that, he should've showed up a lot sooner."

"People make mistakes, Chloe. I did. I screwed up so many times with you and Trixie. I wasn't there when you both needed me. I didn't put you first," Dan said.

Chloe face softened quite a bit. "Is that what this is about? You see yourself in the situation with Amenadiel. Dan, you are not like Amenadiel. Yes, you made mistakes, but you didn't abandon your responsibilities. Even if you screwed up at times, you were always there for Trixie. You were always a part of her life. I'm not going to pretend that it was okay when you'd break your promises to her, but it is not the same thing. You made sure she always had what she needed, and you did what you could to fix your mistakes. Amenadiel has never even made an effort to see Charlie."

"It's just that I can see how he could've been so afraid. I was terrified when we found out we were having Trixie, and we'd even discussed having kids by then," Dan said.

"But you didn't run. Parenthood is terrifying. There's nothing wrong with being afraid of it because it's the most daunting thing in the world. It's how we respond to that fear that shapes her. You and I were afraid, but we stuck around. Lucifer stuck around, and it wasn't even his responsibility. Amenadiel left. He decided he couldn't handle it. So, Charlie is Lucifer's now, and he doesn't need you bringing up Amenadiel all the time, undermining the fact that he is Charlie's father. That's not right. You wouldn't do that to an adoptive parent.

Dan nodded after a minute. "Alright. I'm still not sure I think Lucifer is what's best for that kid, but I'll back off. I won't say anything else about Amenadiel."

"Good. I'll see you next week," Chloe said before heading back to her desk. It was only Lucifer and Ella now. The other officers had left. "Hey. I'm about ready to leave now. You wanna just follow me back to my place."

"Of course. I can help you with dinner," Lucifer said before taking Charlie from Ella and putting him back in his carrier.

"Well, you don't have to, but I'll gladly take the help," Chloe said.

"See you guys next week. Bye, Charlie," Ella said as she waved at the baby.

"Bye, Ella. We'll see you Monday," Chloe said before gathering her things up and leading the way out of the station.
