Chapter Forty-Five
The last day of school found both Sirius jerking awake from the extremely loud noise that came from the end of their bed.
"Whatthefuckisgoinon!" exclaimed Sirius.
Remus' eyes were wide with shock, "whaaaa?"
When they got their hearing back, they noticed the giggling.
There at the end of the bed stood Harry, giggling like crazy and clutching an air horn.
"Haha the look on your faces!," laughed Harry, "priceless! I got you good!"
Sirius grinned and jumped out of bed, "I'm proud of you Pup! Come here and let me show you how…..proud I am."
Harry stepped back, "no way! I'm not that dumb," he said as he ran for the door.
Sirius smiled and chased him out of the room, "get back here you little brat!" he yelled good-naturedly.
"Catch me if you can!" shrieked Harry still laughing as he ran.
"You asked for it!" Sirius shouted before changing into Padfoot and chasing after Harry.
Remus shook his head, chucking as he headed for the shower.
…
Once Padfoot had chased Harry down and jumped on him, and once the ensuing pillow war (which included a very wet Remus being bombarded with pillows and needing a new shower to get rid of the feathers) was finished, the family sat down to breakfast.
"Do you have everything cub?" asked Remus.
Harry nodded and swallowed a mouthful of eggs, "yup. Got my snacks for the party and something for Ms. Simons too. Got my air horn-" at this Harry chuckled at Sirius' face.
"Oh no!" Sirius growled playfully, "that thing is going to die!"
Harry grinned, "you gotta find it first."
Just as Sirius was about to jump on Harry, Remus put out a hand, "you'll all summer for that, Padfoot. Let the cub eat or he'll late for school."
Harry grinned, finished his breakfast and put his plate in the sink, and mouthed 'catch me if you can!' at Sirius before disappearing out the door to school.
Sirius laughed, "cheeky brat."
Remus smiled as he sat down, "and you wouldn't have it any other way."
Sirius slung an arm over his shoulder, " neither would you."
"True enough," said Remus, "he's come so far from when we found this place."
Sirius smiled, "yeah."
"Is he taking this to Hogwarts?"
"Not sure but I think he wants to,"
"Merlin knows I'd feel better if he did."
"You and me both Moony, you and me both."
…..
Albus smiled as he watched the students boarding the Express for home. The children chatting excitedly about their holiday plans. When they came back, Harry Potter world be among them. He sighed, I wonder what the mutt and the wolf will tell him. I should start brewing the loyally potions now. Need to talk to Molly. Honestly, he'd been thinking of giving some to the Weasleys as well. Molly had seemed eager enough, but most of her children were…..hard to read.
He waved absently as the train pulled out of the station, then headed for his office, greeting the professors as they too headed off for their holidays. He exchanged nods with Minerva, and gazed after her. She had been a bit more….reserved with him of late, and Albus wondered at that. He hadn't dared use Legilimency on her in years, ever since that one time… Albus shook his head, no use thinking about that. /He shuddered and headed back for his office. A lemon drop is what I need, he thought, just the thing.
…..
Harry whirled into the living room with his backpack full and his report card in hand.
"Hey Pup!" Sirius greeted from his armchair, "how'd it go?"
"Great!" exclaimed Harry, "I got straight A's. Ms. Simons said I'm top of the class."
"That's great cub," said Remus as he came in with s tray of snacks and drinks.
"Yup!" said Sirius, ruffling Harry's hair, "What's your pick for dinner tonight? Minerva's coming over. She has some introductions to do but otherwise she says she can spend the whole summer with us."
"Really? Cool!" said Harry, "are Gran and Neville coming over too?"
"Already here," said Remus, "they flooed in a few minutes before you came home. They're setting up their rooms now."
"Yes!" Harry shouted excitedly, "Pizza and Chinese food! With a bonfire and s'mores and marshmallows! Please?"
The two Marauders chuckled, "all right Pup," said Sirius.
"I can tell you when everybody gets here then," Harry said.
Tell us what?" asked Remus.
"Your cousin didn't cause any trouble did he?" asked Sirius.
Harry snickered, "no. It's not really funny, but it's Dudley, so.."
"What?" they both asked at the same time.
"Well, Ms. Simons wants to hold him back. I heard her tell him that if he doesn't pass summer school, he can't go to Smeltings next year," said Harry.
Sirius burst out laughing, "now I wish we had that old spy picture still up! That'll be one hell of an explosion!"
Remus was chuckling as he gave Sirius a smack on the back of his head, "no swearing!"
Harry rolled his eyes, "I've heard that before and worse."
Remus gave Sirius a light glare, "and where did you get them I wonder?"
Harry shrugged, "kids at school, Uncle Vernon."
Sirius stuck out his tongue, "see?"
Remus rolled his eyes, "what did you want to tell us Cub? Was it just about Dudley?"
"No,"
"What is it?" asked Sirius.
"I'll tell you when everyone's here,"
"Awww come on Pup,"
"Nope," said Harry with a cheeky grin.
Sirius ruffled Harry's hair, "cheeky brat."
Harry grinned, "yup!"
…
It wasn't until after dinner that Harry brought out his surprise. He got his backpack and removed a piece of paper. He passed it around to the members of his family.
"What is this?" asked Minerva.
"That one," he said pointing at the paper she held, "is for perfect attendance. It means I didn't miss any school this year."
Remus smiled, "that's great Cub."
Harry smiled and handed him a small plastic trophy, "she gave me this for being the top of my class," he said blushing.
Minerva smiled, "I just hope that continues at Hogwarts," she said with a half-stern look.
"I'll try," Harry said grinning.
AN About the trophy, I was thinking of the small kind you can get at any dollar store. Thanks to everyone who reviewed followed and favorited. You always make me smile.
