That night, word got round very quickly that they were going exploring and soon enough they had an overwhelming majority of volunteers who wanted to explore what they had found in their new safe haven. However, with so many people volunteering, it would have left the camp with little to no people to stay behind. Just in case. So, he picked the best of the best and left the majority of people behind. 2 teams of 7 people were picked. On one team you had some of the Gladers. At the insistence of Minho, Frypan, Minho himself, Thomas, Brenda, Gally, Jorge and Vance. Team 2 consisted of other Right Arm members and a couple of Group B girls. Within Team 1 of course you had the tight knit band of Gladers and Vance. Within the two teams, two subdivisions would spread out. Team 1 would head North East, and Team 2 would head North West. Then once they were about a kilometre away from the camo, they would peel off into two groups. It was decided the two groups would be Minho, Brenda, Thomas, and Jorge, with Frypan, Gally and Vance in the other group.
The procedures and routes were laid out although the routes were shady at best as, apart from some preliminary scouting, they would be heading into uncharted territory. The way on which they would go about this was yet to be decided however, there was growing anticipation that they would find something amazing or spectacular. From a pragmatic point of view, boring would be good as it would mean nothing to potentially act as a threat to the safety of their newfound colony. They had actually named the colony 'Safe Heaven.' As like a play on the word safe haven, as they had finally found their paradise. The fact that they had found edible plants, clean freshwater, all within walking distance of the camp was almost unbelievable. The series of events that had led them to where they all now lived alongside each other, contently and a mutually beneficial society for all. Obviously, everyone had been assigned their jobs while they were there, cooking, retrieving food and water, gardening growing the seeds they had brought with them. Everyone lived in tandem with each other. And that was the best thing they had achieved, harmony.
It also appeared that little relationships were starting to blossom all over the new colony. People were starting to find companions and as another coincidence, of all ages, there appeared to be an almost equal number of boys and girls, so relationships were starting to form. Minho had taken a liking to one of the girls from the Group B maze trials. Frypan was getting along very well with one of the girls who he cooked in the kitchen with. And Thomas and Brenda, well they were getting along better than most and looked set to be the 'power couple' of the new homestead if you will. And them being in the same team and sub-team for the expedition into uncharted territories would only deepen the connection they had with each other, even if they didn't know it just yet. As everyone began to get ready to for the journey in the morning, Thomas and Brenda climbed into their bunks conveniently located next to each other, falling asleep relatively easily as they awaited the experiences of the coming day. And as they slept, both of their arms happened to fall out of their bunk and link together as the sun rose on the big day.
