Hera was in the middle of her shift when the boy started to move around and then sit up. The boy was confused. Where was he? He knew he wasn't with the empire. They never gave him nice sheets or pillows. Maybe he was with Uncle Tseebo?

Hera, who had been reading, saw the child sit up and stare around in confusion. She watched to see if he was going to get scared. The child looked around and his eyes landed on Hera. Hera started to move toward the boy, who leaned back as Hera approached. Hera stepped back at the boy's reaction, saddened that any child would act like this.

"Hello, I'm Hera. I'm a friend of Kanan, the man who saved you. I brought you here last night." The boy remembered the friendly twi'lek from yesterday. But why was she so happy? Adults were always angry and sad. But Kanan wasn't. And so maybe his friend was nice, too.

"Do you want some food?" Hera stepped over to the fridge and took out an apple. Again, they were going to give him some food.

The child still regarded her with weary eyes. Why did they give him food without him earning it? Did they expect something from him in exchange?

"Here, I'll cut it up for you, so it's easier to eat," Hera said. The boy was shocked. When he was with the empire, he had to eat what they gave him and if it was too hard to eat, he would starve. Now this nice lady was cutting up his fruit for him. Hera set down a bowl on the table. The boy leapt into the booth-seat and started to chow down the food.

"So," Hera said, sitting down on the opposite side of the table, "What's your name?"

The boy stopped eating for a moment and said, "Ezra." He then continued to finish off the last bite of apple. Hera got up to get him another one.

"How old are you, Ezra."

"Um… four." Ezra answered. Hera handed him the other cut up apple and he ate that one, too. The poor child seemed starved as he finished the second apple off.

"Do you have any questions for me?" Ezra had so many questions, so he didn't know which one to ask first.

"Um… where are we?"

"We are in my ship, The Ghost," Hera replied. The boy looked around the common area, which consisted of a kitchenette and table and on the other side a couch with a screen on the wall. Ezra seemed a little overwhelmed by everything. Hera took sympathy for the child and told him she was going to get Kanan.

Ezra was excited to see the man who had rescued him again, but he was a little nervous to be left alone. The empire always left him in his room by himself for hours. Though he didn't like to be with anyone from the empire, he was also afraid that they would forget about him and leave him there to starve and die on his own. Ezra leapt up to follow Hera out of the door. He saw her in the hallway, knocking on the door to a room. Ezra seemed a little shocked. Did Hera keep Kanan locked up just like the empire did to him? No. Hera was too nice for that. Hera pushed a button and went into Kanan's room. Ezra was so afraid that Hera would decide to lock him up, so he found the nearest room, pushed the button, and hid inside.

The room was dark and smelled weird. There was a weird sound like an engine, but Ezra ignored it. Ezra left the door open and hid in the corner. That way, Hera couldn't find him to lock him up.

Hera knocked on Kanan's door and let herself in. She went over to Kanan and shook him gently.

"Is it my turn to watch him?" Kanan asked.

"No, love. The boy's awake now and I thought he would want to see you." Kanan shot up and grabbed his clothes.

"Give me five minutes. Tell him I will be right there." Hera smiled and went back into the kitchen to find it empty. She immediately started freaking out. There was a four-year-old lost in her ship. Hera checked around under furniture and around corners in the common area, but she couldn't find him. She checked the cockpit, which connected to the common area, but he wasn't there either. She looked back into Kanan's room and Kanan had come out of the refresher with his wet hair tied back and a fresh pair of clothes on.

"What's up?" Kanan asked, seeing Hera's worried expression.

"I can't find Ezra. I left for a second to come and get you and then he was gone."

"Ezra?"

"Yes, he told me his name."

"But where could he go?"

"I'm not sure. I checked the cockpit and the common area."

Kanan couldn't figure out why the kid would run off like that.

Ezra heard this conversation and snuck even deeper into the room. Ezra knew they were going to lock him up. He continued to sneak backwards until he ran right into something on the bed of the room. He tried to muffle his shout. He looked backwards and saw a monster behind him. The thing had its mouth open and was clearly making the roaring sound. This time, Ezra couldn't stifle the scream that escaped him.

At the sound of the high pitched screaming, the monster groggily got up. Ezra quickly tried to exit the room, but saw that the door had slid silently shut and he was trapped with the monster. Maybe this was Hera's plan all along.

Ezra frantically tried to find the button that would release him from the room. He saw a button and pressed it. The door made a soft sound but did not open. Ezra kept trying to find the button as he watched the monster get up and Ezra saw his full height. Ezra screamed some more as the monster stumbled toward him.

Hera heard the scream and realized it must be Ezra. She and Kanan tried to find the source of the screaming and found it was coming from Zeb's room. Hera had no idea what the child was doing in there. She heard more screams and the door locking as she tried to open it. Kanan could sense the panic coming from the room and could tell that Zeb was awake.

As the monster approached, Ezra stopped screaming and dissolved into loud sobbing as he knew his fate would come soon.

Zeb was so confused at what was going on. He had woken up to the screams of a child. Zeb had not heard child-like screams since the days of Lasan when he had to watch the kits. Then he remembered the kid Kanan had saved yesterday. Zeb hobbled up and stumbled toward the door, wondering why the child was in his room, screaming and sobbing.

Hera continued to try to open the door, but it was locked from the inside. Ezra must have accidentally locked it. She heard Ezra's sobbing as she tried to get him to open the door.

"Ezra, push the button again." But Ezra must not have heard her.

"Zeb, unlock the door, please."

Zeb heard Hera outside the door telling him to unlock it. The kid was sitting on the lock. Zeb reached for the kid and Ezra screamed some more.

"Move, kid, I'm trying to unlock the door." Shaking, Ezra heard the monster talk and he moved a little to his left.

Zeb pressed the button and the door flew open. Ezra flew out of the room into Kanan's legs. He grabbed on as if his life depended on it and hid his face from the monster.

"What in empire's name just happened?" Zeb asked as he stood in the doorway, rubbing at his tired eyes.

"We'll handle it from here, Zeb. You go back to sleep." Hera said and followed Kanan, who was now holding Ezra, into the common area.

Ezra was sobbing into Kanan's shirt and wouldn't pick his head up for a good ten minutes. This was all so confusing. How could such a nice person like Kanan (Ezra could somehow feel that he could trust Kanan) be friends with a monster and Hera, who locked him up? Kanan rubbed Ezra's back as he sat on the couch. Hera sat on the opposite side of the couch. She didn't want to frighten the boy. Judging by how scared the boy was of Zeb, he probably ran off because of her. What had she done? She gave him food and went to get Kanan for him. Why would he be afraid of her? But every time she scooted closer on the couch, she could swear that Ezra's shaking increased.

Finally, after ten minutes of constant sobbing, Ezra's breathing evened out and he looked up.

"Hey, Ezra. How are you feeling?" Kanan asked. Ezra didn't answer, he just put his thumb into his mouth and began to suck on it.

"I'm sorry the Zeb scared you so much, he can be a bit grumpy in the mornings. But none of us are going to harm you. We are not like the empire." Kanan tried to explain. Ezra tried to say something, but his thumb was still in his mouth.

Kanan gently removed Ezra's hand from his mouth.

"Try again." Kanan said.

Ezra slowly looked at Hera and whispered, "Then why does she lock you up?" Hera was taken aback.

"What are you talking about?" Kanan tried to think about what the boy had said. Then, a horrible thought came to his mind. Did this boy have experience with being locked up? Did he think that Kanan was locked in a cell and Hera kept him there?

"Ezra, have you been locked up before?" Kanan asked, hoping he was wrong.

Ezra slowly nodded. This broke Hera's heart. She couldn't help herself when she spoke.

"Oh, you poor thing. I promise that I don't lock people up. That was Kanan's room. And Zeb's room. They sleep there. Does that make sense?"

Ezra thought about it, then nodded. He remembered Uncle Tseebo sleeping in his own room in their small house. He didn't think Hera was the kind of person that locked people up and fed them to monsters. And Ezra liked her already. She had a soft and kind voice, she didn't yell at him, and it seemed that Kanan trusted her. Now he felt sorry that he would ever think of her as a mean person. He decided to let her hold him.

When Ezra held out his arms to her, Hera's heart melted. She picked the small boy up and sat down next to Kanan with the boy cradled in her arms. Kanan smiled at the sight. Ezra relaxed in Hera's grip. Though he liked Kanan, Hera was much better at holding him. Ezra stuck his thumb back into his mouth and started to drift off to sleep. Though he already slept for a long time, the freak out about the monster seemed to suck a lot of energy from him. At the thought that the monster was still out there, Ezra tensed. When Hera felt the boy tense, she started to rub a hand through his hair, instantly making Ezra feel protected and safe, and he drifted off into a calm sleep.
