The Wookie mission started off fine, but soon, the rebels were fighting off the Empire once again. Hera and Ezra were docked in a part of the oddly empty star destroyer, waiting for the Wookies and their crew. Hera knew they couldn't be there too long because the Empire would soon realize that they had an unauthorized ship in their abandoned hanger. Hera commed Kanan.
"Spectre one, do you have the Wookies?"
"Yes, headed your way now."
Hera heard gunfire in the hanger outside.
"Spectre two, we're here, open the ramp. We may need some help fighting off the bucketheads." Zeb's voice rang through the com.
Hera let down the ramp to allow the Wookies onto the ship, and then quickly went down to help fight off the troops. Ezra followed her. He saw hairy things filing onto the ship, some Sabine's height, some even taller than Zeb. Ezra walked up to Hera and held her hand.
"Ezra, you need to stay here. I'll be back, stay with the Wookies." So this was what a Wookie looked like. They half terrified-half amazed Ezra. One of them growled and a few of them looked at Ezra. Ezra didn't like their gaze, so he hid behind a cargo bin.
The Wookies milled around, growling. They seemed worried about the gunfire outside the ship. Ezra got more and more nervous for his crew. Why weren't they back yet? Ezra started to make his way outside, but one of the Wookies grabbed him. It growled something at him. Ezra screamed and left the ship at a run.
Outside the ship, the crew was in a full out gun battle with the troopers. Ezra saw Kanan fending them off with his lightsaber. Zeb was using his borifle and Hera shot at the troopers from behind a broken down speeder. Chopper whizzed around the area, waiting for orders. But where was Sabine?
Ezra noticed Kanan protecting something that had fallen behind him. It was Sabine. Ezra knew he shouldn't have run, but he was so worried about Sabine. He couldn't lose another family member. Chopper saw Ezra running and rolled toward him, buzzing at him to get back on the ship. Ezra didn't listen. He was almost to Sabine.
"Ezra? What are you doing?" Kanan shouted, seeing Ezra crouched beside Sabine.
"'Bine! 'Bine's hurt."
"She's okay, she's just unconscious," Ezra didn't know what that meant. He shook Sabine, tears streaming from his eyes.
Hera saw Ezra and Sabine and yelled over that she and Zeb would cover them as Kanan got them to safety. Kanan snached up Ezra and Sabine and ran to the ship, lightsaber still deflecting shots.
Finally, Hera, Chopper, and Zeb were able to safely board the ship.
"We're all here, let's go!" Hera yelled in her comlink to Kanan.
When they were off the ground and into hyperspace, Kanan came back to the cargo bay, where he had left Ezra and Sabine. Hera had managed to bring Sabine to the medbay. Ezra was sitting close to Zeb, who was talking to some of the Wookies. Kanan made his way to the medbay to check on Sabine.
At the sight of Kanan, Ezra tugged on Zeb's fur and Zeb looked down at the terrified boy. He picked him up.
"What's wrong?"
"Kanan's mad. I didn't listen to mama. Kanan's gonna hurt me 'cause I didn't listen." The kid was starting to panic.
"He's not gonna hurt you. He might be a bit angry, but he won't hurt you."
"He's gonna be mad at me and yell and hurt me. He might kick me or hit me 'cause I didn't listen. What happens when you don't listen?"
"All that happens to me is that I get a telling off from Hera and the disappointment from Kanan. They won' hurt ya, kid," Zeb tried to convince Ezra.
"How d'you know? When people are mad, they hurt me."
Kanan and Hera reemerged from the medbay to talk to the Wookies a little. Ezra saw this and gripped Zeb tighter.
"I promise, kid. They're not gonna hurt ya. Give 'em 'bout ten minutes to straighten things out with the Wookies an then I'll go with you ta talk to 'em."
"Zeb, 'Bine's hurt!"
"She's fine. She got hit with a stun shot."
Ezra looked wearily at the Wookies and even more wearily at Hera and Kanan. Zeb looked at the kid and saw that he was getting frantic.
"Hey kid, let's go visit Sabine. She's probably awake by now, maybe a little numb, but she'll be fine." Ezra nodded, excited to see that Sabine was safe.
Zeb set the kid down and took his hand before leading him to the medbay.
Sabine sat in one of the beds. She was awake and looked restless.
"Hey guys!" Sabine said as she looked at the two boys.
"'Bine!" Ezra said, hopping up onto the other med-bed.
"Kid's worried that yer hurt."
"Na, I'm fine. Maybe my ego's hurt a bit. I can't believe they got me with a stun. I missed the whole fight."
"Good thing it wasn' a real shot. Kanan's probably gonna have a talk with you about bein' more careful," Zeb said, chuckling.
"'Bine's in trouble, too?" Ezra asked.
"What do you mean?" Sabine asked.
"Kid saw ya and ran to see if you were okay. Woulda been sweet if the kid hadn' ran in front of a whole buncha gunfire. He thinks that he's gonna be in trouble 'cause Hera told 'im to stay on the ship."
"Well, you're probably right. Hera doesn't like when you don't listen to her." Sabine glanced at Zeb and saw him glaring at her. He nodded his head toward Ezra.
The kid was silently crying.
"What's wrong?"
"I don't want to be in trouble. I don't want to get hurted."
"Why would you get hurt?" Sabine asked.
"Oh ya, another thing, Ezra thinks that Kanan and Hera are gonna beat 'im because he didn't follow orders."
"They don't beat people, Ezra. That's not what's going to happen. They wouldn't ever hurt you." Ezra frowned and stayed quiet.
Kanan and Hera walked into the medbay.
"Hey crew! Sabine, how're you feeling?" Kanan asked.
"My legs are still numb, so I can't walk, but otherwise, I'm feeling fine."
"We're going to talk about your safety during missions, Sabine," Hera said.
Sabine sighed, but nodded in approval.
"Hey, where'd Ezra go?" Hera asked.
The whole crew looked around.
"He was here a second ago. He was freakin' out because he didn't listen to you, Hera. He thought that you were gonna beat 'im." Hera was shocked and hurt by this.
Kanan realized where Ezra was and stood on top of the med-bed to get into the vent.
"Ezra, I promise I'm not gonna hurt you. Can you come down from there?"
There was no reply. Kanan sighed.
"Lemme try." Zeb got on top of the med-bed and opened the vent. "Come 'ere, Ezra. How did ya even get up 'ere?"
"Enhanced abilities because of the force," Kanan answered. "It lets him jump higher than he normally could."
Ezra still wouldn't come out.
"Look, Ezra. D'you think that I'm stronger than Kanan?" It took Ezra a second to answer.
"Yes."
"Hey!" Kanan said, hands on his hips. "I'm a Jedi!"
"He's a Lasat, love, of course he's stronger than you." Hera tried to console Kanan. Kanan just crossed his arms and muttered something about mental strength.
"How 'bout Hera?"
"Ya, but Hera is in charge of you 'cause she's the boss." All the members, including Hera, smiled at this.
"Sure, but physically speaking, I'm stronger than them. So if need be, I'll protect you from them if they try to hurt you. Just come out of this vent."
Ezra decided this made sense and he came down in Zeb's arms.
"Ezra, we aren't going to hurt you," Hera said. "What you did was very dangerous and it was not right, but I know that you were worried about Sabine. Next time I give you an order, I expect you to keep it. That goes for all of you." Hera looked at each of them, even Kanan.
"Now we have to get back to the Wookies." Hera left the room to discuss their plans with the Wookies.
"That's all?" Ezra asked.
"That's all. Hera can have a temper, but I'm sure she won't unleash it at you. Even then, Hera never hurts any of us," Kanan told Ezra.
"I'm sorry for not listening," Ezra said.
"I know, Ezra. I think you should tell that to Hera." Ezra followed Kanan and Zeb out of the room to go tell Hera he was sorry.
