The precinct was quiet. Deathly quiet. Everyone including the cleaning staff had gone home.
Everyone that is except Alex Danvers.
She'd decided to stay late to help out with clearing out some of the backlogged lab tests so 'the badges upstairs' as others in the office called them could start finding leads or in some instances finally close cases.
Alex didn't mind the late nights. Not like she had anything better to do other than sit at home watching reruns of her favored tv shows, catch up on already ended series she found interesting, or maybe read the odd m rated short story online whilst snacking on take-out. She could always call her best friend if she got to board until she remembered Linda saying she was going on a date tonight.
There had been a few times Alex had deeply considered the idea of adopting a rescue animal but even then, she knew once she stepped through the doors, she would have a hard time choosing just one to take home with her.
Not that Alex was jealous of her surrogate sister's thriving love life whilst hers was nonexistent that Alex was willing to fill her craving for affection but adopting a pet just to have some reason to go home every night because she wasn't.
"You could be going out too if you'd just woman the hell up and ask out that cute cop you've been mooning over since you transferred over last week." Lin had reminded during a call the pair had shared over Alex's lunch break.
A reminder Alex had shut down with a quick if not saddened "Leave it alone, Lin. You know how risky workplace romances are." Mostly because her crush had chosen that exact moment to come swaggering into the break room for a coffee refill.
It was like clockwork. A few times Alex had even toyed with the idea of actually setting her watch by her crushes' need for caffeine just to see if it wasn't some kind of fluke.
Alex ended the call with a sighed "Call you later goof, have to stop world war coffee break." When just as she'd predicted (*cough cough* deliberately planed) she was given a delightful look at the toned flexing muscles of her tempting cop's arms as they braced her against the counter, or maybe it was because of the sinfully appealing irritated groan Maggie gives in obvious annoyance at the lack of coffee in the machine.
"You're in luck." Alex steps in catching her crushes' eye and holding out the thermos mug she'd been greedily hoarding the last three minutes as she waited for this exact moment. Her first honest attempt at a conversation with the woman she'd been crushing so hard on since she'd started working at the precinct a few short weeks before.
"I overfilled mine earlier and well…. No use letting even police station coffee go to waste."
The sexy as heck detective throwing her for a loop when after giving a fully dimpled grin of gratitude and an honest "God you're a lifesaver, Danvers. You really are." As she takes the offered mug her curious crush follows with a questioning "but since when have you switched to drinking it black, Danvers? Thought you liked yours sweet with that extra hit of honey you ruin it with." As she rests her back against the counter bringing the mug to her lips for that first savored sip.
The liquid inside still warmed also per Alex's design.
Safe to say it takes a few extra seconds of herculean brain power to remember anything except how very much Alex wanted to lean in and kiss that smug grin from Maggie's lips before Alex gives a question like "Um…since now?"
Since when has her crush noticed how she likes her coffee?
This new information sent her mind spinning in a million directions all at once considering Alex was positive her feelings were purely one-sided. They had to be what with Maggie at least last Alex had heard currently in a happy relationship with some other lucky woman.
"I'm a detective, Danvers." Maggie grins as if reading her mind as she taps a finger of her free hand on the badge clipped to her belt in reminder. "I'm paid to notice things like that."
At this the happy balloon in Alex's chest bursts painfully as if each shred were a freshly sharpened knife stabbing her heart from the inside out as she watched the woman, she longed for walking away still carrying her favorite coffee mug with a playful "I'll give this back later, alright?" as she went back to work leaving Alex alone and nursing a wounded heart once again.
The loud beeping of the computer jars the memory free from the forefront of Alex's mind reminding her that as upsetting as it was, she was alone in the office and not magickly back in the presence of the single most alluring cop Alex had ever met even during her wilder party days.
But she also found comfort in the fact that being in the office after hours does have its perks considering for the moment Alex currently lounged rather comfortably in one of the nicer desk chairs, she'd borrowed from one of the offices with titles above her current pay grade. And so long as she remembers to put the chair back once she's decided she's ready to go home no one had to know she'd been using it for the night.
The soft click of the door lock sliding into place as Alex does another giddy childlike spin of her chair was like gunfire in the quiet space with Alex immediately on alert as she quickly stops her antics to pay better attention to her surroundings.
No one was supposed to be here.
Not even her.
Alex wasn't so naive to give a questioning "Hello?" or "Is anyone there?" like they would in movies. She was far smarter than that. Black belt fighter in several disciplines with an M.D and Ph.D. to her credit.
She did at least pull out one of her earbuds as she went back to staring at an unmoving computer screen. Not that she had her music turned up so loud when she'd first started working, she wouldn't be able to catch even the smallest of sounds from the deserted office.
"Is this My chair you've stollen, Danvers?"
Alex will go to her grave swearing she didn't let out the startled squeak of a scream at the soft-spoken question as the chair was suddenly twisted back around towards the closed and locked door to her lab.
"M…Maggie?"
The cop only smiles in response. Not one of her heart-melting full dimpled smiles but enough of a shy grin that has Alex grateful she was already sitting down when her knees trembled at the effect. "A…Alex." Maggie parrots with a low chuckle as she lets her hand drop from beside the still deer in headlight looking Alex.
God help her if Linda found out. She'd become even more unbearable in her teasing.
"I was going to give it back." Alex promises in a rush. "but I also didn't know how long I would be here, and these lab chairs are just so damned uncom…"
"It's alright, Danvers." Maggie cuts in with a low chuckle as her hands moves as if waving away Alex's stammered apology.
"Wh…what are you doing here so late anyway?" Alex asks once she was able to remember how speech worked after she'd recovered from the sudden appearance of the one woman who could turn her brain to mush with nothing more than a quick glance or a ghost of a smile in her direction.
"Looking for you." Maggie answers as if it were the most obvious answer in history as she makes herself a bit more comfortable in Alex's lab. Shrugging off her jacket and tossed it away over the back of one of the harder lab chairs.
At this Alex was all but positive she'd fallen asleep and was now in the middle of a very real-seeming dream. "W...why?" she stammers out trying her best not to openly drool at just how distracting Maggie's arms were considering the cop always seemed to keep the sleeves of all those button-up shirts rolled to her elbows keeping her toned forearms on constant display.
"Are you always so articulate after work hours?" Maggie asks with another light over-the-shoulder smile in Alex's direction.
"No." Alex answers too quickly
"Alright." Maggie shrugs "but honestly, I swung by your place, but you weren't there so…. well, I took a shot that you decided to work late…. And well here we are."
Alex was about to give a surprised "You know where I live?" until her eyes fell on the badge still clipped to Maggie's belt and she physically bit her tongue to keep from saying the pointless question as she moves to check on her still running tests whilst Maggie continues making herself more comfortable in Alex's space. "If this is about the mug. You could have waited…."
Her words are stalled by the hard press of warmed and slightly chapped lips pressing greedily against her own swallowing her whimper of surprise as she was backed suggestively against the edge of her worktable. The thing digging painfully against the middle of Alex's back when she'd stopped moving. Not that Alex was about to voice her discomfort when her floundering hands finally come to rest on Maggie's jean clade hips dragging her forwards the same time Alex was falling backward all without breaking the contact of lips between them.
"I've waited for you long enough, Alex," Maggie whispered her voice now a pitch lower as her forehead nuzzled against Alex's own when the kiss came to a rather abrupt end. "Please. Please don't make me wait anymore." She pleads in a soft whisper. Her hands having migrated slowly from holding Alex's hips to attempting to soothe the middle pain of the edge of the desk digging into Alex's back.
Alex only groaned louder chasing Maggie's lips for another greedy kiss. Not at all how she'd pictured it being the few times she's teased herself with fantasies of being allowed to kiss the one woman she longed for. A hard clash of teeth and saliva wet lips as she allowed herself to be moved in Maggie's direction ending up sitting back down in the borrowed (deliberately chosen) desk chair.
Now with Maggie balanced however unsteadily against her lap and all without breaking the feel of Maggie's mouth against her own.
"God, I hope I never wake up." Alex admits one hand returning to its place at Maggie's hip the other looping around her back drawing the unbalanced cop in closer, so the shorter woman was more straddling one of Alex's thighs to keep steady.
At that Maggie laughs aloud as she grazes the exposed skin of Alex's throat with her teeth before drawing back to meet her eyes with a breathless. "You're not dreaming, Danvers."
"It's the only expiation." Alex argues as her hand continues absently twisting different strands of Maggie's long dark hair around her fingers. Dream or not she wasn't about to just barbarically start tugging away the separating barriers of Maggie's clothes. Despite her fingers aching desperately to do just that.
It would be so easy considering the top two buttons on Maggie's shirt were already loose giving a new teasing glimpse of the flushed skin of her throat. On top of the flexing press of Maggie's bracing arm against the back of the chair.
God how Alex loved it when her cop rolls up her sleeves.
Maggie head does that adorable tillite that has Alex's heart-melting to catch. "How so?"
"You're here and you want me in a more than friends' kind of way. Unless I'm misreading….this." Alex pauses jerking her chin towards their oh so cozy bordering the lines between friendly and intimate positions considering both were still fully clothed aside from an absence of jackets.
"Is that so ridiculous that I want you? You're a very desirable and attractive woman, Alex Danvers." Maggie reminds reaching out to brush a few loose strands of Alex's hair back behind her ear as she spoke. But Alex doesn't miss the way her tempting cop's hooded gaze drifts from Alex's eyes to her lips and back in that short time.
Alex once again feels an eruption of happy butterflies in her stomach at the use of her first name from Maggie's lips. Normally it was strictly her last name and always with a friendly joking note behind it. "Because your you and at least the last I heard you and….."
"There hasn't been me and anyone for the last month and a half, Alex." Maggie steps in to correct. "Actually, it's been longer than that, only I wasn't ready to admit it and ended up hurting us both by pretending differently."
"What happened?"
Maggie only gives her an exasperated look before leaning in to press their lips back together in a softer but very real kiss. "You did." She whispers against Alex's lips.
Alex only blinks a few times her brain still too short-circuited from the tingling warmth of Maggie's mouth on hers to fully understand. Luckily Maggie was there to spell it out a little more.
"Remember a few months back when you went to open mic night at Dollywood after you and that Kelly woman broke up?" at this Alex gives a slow nod of her head in recognition. Not that she remembered a great deal of said night considering how deeply she'd crawled into a shot glass to nurse her heartbreak.
Kelly had been her first attempt at a girlfriend. They'd met in a shared science class in high school and had been dating ever since. Safe to say the breakup had been a rough one with their extensive history.
Maggie's arms slide back in a loose hold around Alex's neck this time purely out of comfort rather than anything more intimate as she continues talking "and instead of singing sad songs and feeling sorry for yourself a random stranger convinced you to alternate between water and shots from a bottle of top-shelf scotch while the other woman's date death glared you the rest of the night?"
Alex nodes slowly as a few points replays however hazily behind her eyes. "Then pretty eyes held my hair even when it was too short to hold back when I threw it all back up when she took me home." Alex nodes guiltily. "but how'd…." she questioned her fingers once more playing with the baby curls of Maggie's hair at the back of her neck.
"For having such a beautifully amazing brain you are such a dummy, Danvers." Maggie sighs her fingers still twisting deeper into Alex's hair at the back of her neck. "I mean come on you still have my jacket from when I left it for you to use as a pillow after you passed out on your bathroom floor."
At that Alex gives a surprised intake of breath as her eyes dart to the very jacket in question locked safely away in the small locker in the corner of the room. She'd sworn up and down the jacket had been Kelly's despite the thing being a few sizes smaller than her ex likes her jackets.
"So, you like me, that's what I'm getting here?" Alex clarifies as they catch their mingled breath after another hungry kiss.
Maggie shakes her head once in denial before giving a flat "I don't like you, Alex."
At this Alex's felt her heart shatter into atoms.
"Hey."
At once Maggie's hand was cupping Alex's chin forcing her head back up only for Alex to shut her eyes tightly rather than having to look into Maggie's own. She could already feel traitor tears spilling from the tightly closed corners as it was. "Alex," Maggie whispered honest self-directed guilt layering her name as she feels more than sees Maggie's thumb whipping each tear away only for more to follow. "If you'd let me finish, please." The ask ended in a shared groan when the shift in Maggie's position had her unintentionally grinding down on the bracing leg Alex held between Maggie's parted ones reminding both of their current tightly pressed position.
"Alright then."
All remaining color was lost from Maggie's already hooded eyes at the hard bite of Alex's words as her hands lock unyielding against the shorter woman's hips the same moment her leg lifts flexing purposefully against the dampened center of Maggie's clothed sex bringing a needy whimper from Maggie herself.
"What are you d…d...doing, Danvers." Maggie asks as if the other woman's intention weren't obvious considering each word in her short question was punctuated with another breathy moan at the continued stimulation of Alex's leg grinding harder and harder between her own.
"Helping you finish."
The hand Maggie still held against the back of Alex's neck tightened hard enough to bruise as Maggie felt herself responding in kind to her partner's more dominant actions.
"Fuck… this wasn't…." Maggie broke off in order to bite down hard against Alex's shoulder the move catch more of her shirt than actual skin as she was pushed closer to her climax.
"Wasn't it?" Alex grumbled still not letting go of the other woman's hips as she continued her own form of teasing torment. "Because given the evidence it seems it very much was," Finally, her grip on Maggie's trapped hips relents enough to allow the other woman to stand however unsteadily as if to prove just how wet the leg and crotch of Alex and Maggie's respective pants had become since they'd started a few short moments before.
Without much warning, the plain black tee shirt Alex had changed into after her shift ended was bunched up just enough to show her sports bra clade chest to Maggie's lust lost eyes. "Only fair, Danvers." The worked-up cop reasoned pulling the black bra up, so it rolled uncomfortably up Alex's flushed chest.
Before Alex herself could think of a reply beyond a gasped whimper at the sudden burst of cold against her heated skin Maggie's head had dipped catching one hardened nipple between her wet lips as her massaging hand closed on the pleasant side of pain around the other.
Every time I close my eyes, it's like a dark paradise
No one compares to you, except in my dreams tonight...
The loan earbud had finally fallen from Alex's ear hanging limp against her neck as her head tilted back in pleasure at the swirling tease of Maggie's tongue against her hardened nip as she changed from one breast to the other to give an equal amount of affection.
"Humm never thought you'd be a Lana Del Rey fan." Maggie hums now kneeling rather comfortably between Alex's parted legs as the chair that had started it all bumps back against the very table the two had shared their first kiss.
"Seriously, Mags?" Alex whimpers gale they finally had some semblance of stability as thinks quickly heated up even more between them. "I'm about three seconds about from finishing this myself if you don't hurry the hell up and you want to talk about my music tastes?"
"Well seeing as I'm about to ask formally for your permission to go down on you, I at least want a decent soundtrack." Maggie answers her tone far more business-like than Alex had expected given how lusty black her eyes were as they hold Alex's own. Maggie's fingers once again skimming teasingly at the waistband of Alex's jeans.
Alex's back arches along with her moan in longing anticipation almost missing Maggie's playful "So find a song you won't mind getting wet too, sexy girl." As the button on her jean was finally pulled open after Maggie catches Alex's consenting node. "Because every time you hear it after tonight all you're going to be able to think about is how worked up you get when I'm fucking you on my tongue."
"Aren't you confi…. oh fuck." Alex starts to tease finally managing to rid her lover of her shirt after simply hitting the reply button on her iPod starting the last song over again. The light sounds of the Lifehouse tune threatening to blow out her headphone speakers as Alex turns up the volume a few clicks
Her fingers digging hard against Maggie's shoulders at the first light brush of the flat of the shorter woman's tongue against Alex's heated sex.
