She's stuck at her desk mulling over a case file trying her hardest to keep from chewing thought the end of the pen she's holding between her teeth as she stares at the open folder without really seeing one line of the page she was meant to be reading.
Her phone buzzing in her pocket provides a small blessing of a distraction.
'Stop trying to set your desk on fire just by glaring at it. Who do you think you are Supergirl?'
Maggie scoffs at the playful message as the three small dots signal Alex already typing up a new one already as Maggie leans back in her chair still chewing absently on the end of her pen. Now for a brand-new reason.
'or are you distracted by the oh so smoothly concocted crime you so boldly commented?'
At this Maggie muffles a laugh with difficulty at the winking emoji accompanying the rather sassy text.
"And what crime would that be, Danvers?" she types letting her head drop back against the chair's headrest with a defeated sigh as she lets herself be so appealingly sidetracked from the dead-end that was her current case.
She needed a distraction, or her brain might actually start leaking out her ears from mentally banging her head against the invisible wall that was the open case file taunting her from her desk.
'don't you dare laugh? I already know how cheesy this will sound, but I'm saying… well typing it anyway."
Maggie bites her lip to keep from giggling aloud as she types back an honest 'I'll do my best. Now, what's my crime?"
"Crime-S' Alex answers in correction "and by the current count, you're racking up quite the rap sheet, detective Sawyer." She adds with a wink emoji following it making Maggie chew once more on the end of her pen rather than risk drawing blood by biting into her lower lip as her eyes find the small clock on her phone screen telling her she still had five whole minutes before she could finally clock out for her lunch break.
Alex should already be a minute or three into her own.
Just a few more minutes then Maggie could join her. Stealing a little more time with the woman she loved. Even as those thoughts rolled around in her head Maggie was already giggling at them. God help her Alex was making her so soft.
"Where are you hiding my nerdy ninja?" Maggie asks after a calculatedly quick glance shows that contrary to what she'd thought Alex wasn't already waiting for her in the breakroom.
A point Maggie was both disappointed in but grateful for.
Grateful because she was jealously protective of this new romance with the woman she'd been longing for since she'd first laid eyes on Alex all those months ago and she just knew that when her colleagues find out some would make it a personal mission to spoil it.
Disappointed because now she can't quietly observe the womanly object of her affections as she had day after day at this exact time.
A gif instead of an emoji answers her question.
A woman (who looked strikingly similar to Alex only if her hair were blonde and she were wearing doctor scrubs) pouting along with those three teasing dots telling the chuckling detective her lover was already typing up a real response.
"Come on Mags, use those super sexy detecting skills of yours."
Maggie huffs running her phone freehand through her hair but already Alex was typing once more.
"You know I'm close by, you know I'm waiting for you." Alex lists
"I know you're a super sexy tease, Danvers." Maggie entraps with a sly grin when a blushing but also devil-faced emoji appear on her screen. 'also remind me to talk with your sister about passing off her emoji habit." Maggie teases "Seriously, babe you're becoming far worse than Lin with these things." But Maggie also adds a few teasing winking emojis of her own before sending the message off.
'I just miss you." Alex confesses
Maggie rolls her eyes before giving another quick glance at the wall clock.
Was the thing moving so slow to torment her more? Maggie was seriously considering it.
"I'm listening to our song, Mags. It's making me miss you even more."
At this Maggie feels her mouth go dry the same instant her thighs press together against her chair. The seam of her jeans doing nothing to lessen the phantom feel of Alex's tongue between her legs despite only knowing the very real feeling from the single night they'd shared together.
So lost was she in her own thoughts Maggie started in surprise when her phone hums against her fingers with another message from her playfully teasing lover. "Don't forget to bring it with you." Almost the same moment a scolding "Next time order enough for everyone, Sawyer" as one of her only true friends at the station sets a delivery bag on the corner of Maggie's cluttered desk.
Maggie's mouth waters when she spies the printed label for one of her favorite vegan delis.
"Now go to lunch before that growling stomach of yours gets mistaken for a rouge alien and has Supergirl flying in to fight it off." If it wasn't for the warm mother hen undertone Maggie would have been honestly offended by the order. As it was, she only pockets her phone and grabs the takeout bag with a playful salute in Kate's direction.
"You got it boss."
Kate rolls her eyes at that dropping down into Maggie's vacated chair. "and tell Alex I'm still waiting on those labs so she better hurry her sexy ass up or I'm not letting you two have any more sleepovers." She says this just loud enough for Maggie to catch as Kate kicks her boot-clade feet up onto the edge of Maggie's desk, so her stolen chair leans back with only the smallest of protesting groans. "Also, I'm happy for you both. Honestly I was about ready to lock you both in the supply closet if that damned dance of yours went on a day longer than last night." Maggie's ex adds with a genuine smile at Maggie's blushing expense.
"Now go find your girl before her lunch goes cold too," Kate suggests the same moment Maggie feels her phone buzzing against her back pocket.
"Any ideas on where to start?" Maggie asks still flustered by the playful teasing of Alex's earlier texts. This shiny newness of the whirlwind romance after the torturously slow-building, in the beginning, has Maggie reeling in the best of way.
Kate scoffed at that still lounging temptingly in Maggie's chair. "And spoil the game," she muses with a coy smile. "You know that's not my style, Sawyer."
Maggie gives a playful pout much like the one Alex had sent her that has Kate once again rolling her eyes to witness. "but if it were me?" she continues earning a conspirator smile from Maggie "I would go make sure that car I spotted parked by your T-100 hasn't messed with that sleek paint job." Kate offers now inspecting her short, trimmed nails then gives a shrug of her shoulders "but you know that's just me. You do what you…."
She can't even finish before Maggie was speed walking towards the elevator only to be called back with a teasing "Forgetting something, Sawyer." From her ex who was still eyeing the forgotten takeout bag hungrily.
"I was getting worried." Alex confessed almost as soon as the passenger side door closed behind her late-coming girlfriend.
Maggie only gulped audibly at the sight of her oh so teasing lover sprawled so comfortably in the car's backseat. Her dark button up shirt now hanging open exposing the neat cotton undershirt she'd worn underneath. A dark gray that blended well with the caracoled back of the top shirt. Alex's legs stretched out as much as she was able without actually opening the back door to allow more room for her to stretch out properly.
Given how hooded Alex's eyes were it was a wonder her jeans were still securely fastened as Maggie leaned back between the front seats to pull her grinning girlfriend in for a not so soft kiss. One Alex was more than willing to return with an equal intensity that soon had both in need of breath. Yet even then they stayed close enough to nuzzle their foreheads against the other.
"You're working too hard again, baby." Alex sighs twisting a few strands of dark black hair around her fingers.
Maggie only sighs heavily at that knowing full well how right Alex was. "So, are you coming up here or am I coming back there?" she asks instead using her free hand to pull the delivery bag from the passenger seat.
Alex thinks for a moment still twisting Maggie's hair around her fingers quietly humming along with the song still playing on a loop from the radio.
Their song.
"You come back here." Alex decides just as the song reaches its chorus.
Alex must have picked up on the low burning spark in Maggie's eyes considering she was already shaking her head with a small tisk and an apologetic "Just snuggles this time. You're worth more than a quick fuck in the back seat on our lunch break, Mags."
Maggie gives a slight pout as she maneuvers from the front to the back seat without using the doors to do so the act ended up being far more complicated then she'd anticipated but Alex only giggles despite ending up with more than a few jabs of flailing elbows as she attempted to help.
"Next time…"
"Yeah, yeah use the door." Maggie agreed burrowing against Alex's warmth as she laid out on top of her taller girlfriend. Alex's fingers already running soothingly up and down Maggie's back.
"No. next time pass over the food first goof." Alex says jerking her chin towards the still untouched delivery bag that had been kicked into the far corner of the front passenger seat by Maggie's struggle from the front to the back seats.
"I thought you were a dessert before lunch kind of girl." Maggie argues with a playful smile.
"I am but I already said you deserve better than…" Alex tries to argue.
Maggie shuts her up with a kiss. This one teetering the line between soft and greedy. "If you really thought that you wouldn't be listening to this song." she reminds "now hush and let me take care of you." Maggie purrs as her fingers press against the obvious wet spot seeping through both layers of Alex's underwear and her jeans.
The move earning a low whimper from Alex and a whisper "Mags please."
"I've got you Danvers." Maggie promises kissing her way from Alex's throat down over her clothes to the spot Alex needed her most.
