Lily Evans was your not-so typical, studious girl, with glowing green eyes, fiery red hair, and a really bad temper. Especially when James Potter, a heartthrob to most, a punching bag to her, was concerned. At this very moment, after a very satisfying Bat-Bogey Hex on James after he asked her out for the bloody MILLIONTH time, she let her instincts kick in and, well, she hexed him; she was on her way to the Owlery. She was going to send a letter to her mum and dad with her beautiful tawny owl Elyon. However, when she got there, Elyon wasn't!
Then Lily noticed a black dot in the distance. "Elyon!" she thought. "I wonder where she was." She pulled off the letter attached to Elyon's claw, reading it silently:
Dear Miss Evans,
We regret to inform you that at approximately 5:13 this evening, your parents were murdered by He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and his followers.
Our sincere apologies,
the Ministry of Magic
"Dead? Murdered? NO!" Lily broke down in tears and ran out of the Owlery.
"Hey Evans...Evans! Oi Lily, what's wrong?" James shouted, flying down the corridor after her. Catching up with her, he lightly grabbed her shoulders from behind and turned her to face him.
"Potter, what are you doing?" Lily managed to choke through her tears. "Unhand me, please. I want to be alone."
James, afraid of being hexed again, said softly, "Come on Lil. Come with me." He led her to the Room of Requirement, all the while explaining where he was taking her.
The door to the Room appeared, housing comfortable couches and hot cocoa and sweets. As they sat down, James coaxed Lily into telling him what was wrong. "Oh James, You-Know-Who murdered my mum and dad." She handed him the letter, and he read it quietly and soberly.
"Lily, I'm so sorry. Is there anything I can do?" he asked in a comforting voice.
"Yeah. Actually there is." she said. "Scoot closer Potter." she taunted, and then...a most miraculous thing happened. She crawled into him lap and kissed him on the lips.
"Thanks Pott-...James." And then she laid her down on his shoulder, closed her red, teary eyes, and fell asleep. James just smiled, and rested his head on hers. This was going to be a beautiful evening.
